Members of MCC of OGS and visitors to this site have submitted a variety of announcements such as marriages, births, special events, reunions, etc. that were important to families and individuals of the period. Such items are listed here by the name of the key individuals involved and by date. You are invited to submit similar items for posting. Marriage of Mr. Melvin B. Christman and Miss Margaret I. Blowers

Tuesday evening, March fourth, 1952 at six o'clock at his home of Eastern Avenue, Woodsfield, Minister J. V. A. Traylor read the formal double ring ceremony which united in marriage Miss Margaret I. Blowers and Melvin B. Christman.
Miss Blowers is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Manford Blowers, of Barnesville, Ohio, and Mr. Christman is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer G. Christman, of Apple Creek, Ohio.
The bride wore a brown suit with beige accessories, and her corsage was of pink carnations.
The groom who entered the United States Armed Forces in September 1950, recently returned from Korea where he had served ten months.

       On Christmas morning at ten o'clock at his home on Eastern Ave.
Minister J. V. A.  Traylor read the single ring ceremony which united in marriage Miss Bonnie Arlene Gatten, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd D. Gatten, of Woodsfield, Route 2, and Franklin Delano McCaslin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edison W. McCaslin, of Woodsfield, Route 4, Ohio.
     The bride wore a suit of blue and gray with navy blue accessories and a corsage of yellow rosebuds.
     A wedding dinner was served at noon at the home of the groom's parents, and in the evening a wedding supper was served at the home of the bride's parents.
     The newlyweds will make their home in Rittman where Mr. McCaslin has employment.

On Monday afternoon, November sixteenth, at two o'clock at this home on Eastern Ave, Minister J.V.A. Traylor read the single ring ceremony which united in marriage Miss Shirley Ann Wise, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Wise of Summerfield Route 2 and Homer Rex Leach, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arch Leach of Quaker City, Route 4.

The bride wore a navy blue dress with black accessories.

Miss Lavina Wise, of Summerfield, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid. She wore a blue dress with red accessories.

Harold Carpenter, Summerfield served Mr. Leach as best man.

 

Charlene Neuhart and James Rost Engagement

Woodsfield--Miss Charlene Neuhart's engagement to James Rost, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rost of Miamisburg, has been announced by her father, Charles Neuhart of 210 Oaklawn avenue, Woodsfield. The wedding will take place at the First Lutheran Church in Miamisburg on June 6. Miss Neuhart is a graduate of Woodsfield High School. She is employed in the executive office of the National Cash Register Company at Dayton. Mr. Rost was graduated from Miamisburg high school and is a tool and die maker at Frigidaire Division, General Motors corporation.

Young, William Edward and Julia Viola (Ola) Hodge Young

    Young, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. E. Young celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on Sunday,  September 5th with a dinner at their home near Lewisville.
    William E. Young and Miss Ola Hodge were married at Graysville, Ohio, on September 7,1905, by Deacon John Pryor of the Christian Church. The couple has always lived in the Lewisville community.
    Mr. and Mrs. Young are the parents of six children; Mrs. Ira (Audra) Harrington, of Circleville; Mrs. Homer (Leora) Weber, of Oblong, Illinois; Mrs. Glenn (Mabel) Steele, of Woodsfield; Mrs. Carl (Wilene) Jackson of Lewisville; Mrs. Elmer (Edyth) Saddler and Irvin Young , of Canton. Eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren complete the family circle.
     Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Steele also celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Young. The Steeles were married September 3, 1930.
     Members of the family attending the dinner were: Mr. and Mrs. Ira Harrington,  Mr. and Mrs. William Harrington and daughter, Candice Kay, Mrs. Richard Harrington and son, Danny, of Circleville, Ohio: Mr. and Mrs. Homer Weber, of Oblong, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Weber of Indianapolis, Indiana; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Steele, Joy, Rita and Janet, of Woodsfield; Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Young, Chuckie and Sandra and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Saddler, of Canton; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Jackson, Gary and Kenneth and Ralph Young ; guests, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Weber, and the honored ones, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Young.
     All were present except three grandchildren, Mrs. Richard Hutchinson, husband and son, of Circleville; Richard Harrington, who is stationed in Hawaii and Mrs. David Eells and husband, of Waterford Hertz, England.

Kahrig-Mobley Marriage

     Miss Charlotte Yvonne Mobley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Mobley, of Lewisville, Route 2 and Mr. Roger H. Kahrig, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Kahrig, of Lewisville, Route 1, were united in marriage on Saturday afternoon, July ninth. Minister J.V. A. Traylor performed the double ring ceremony at 3:30 o'clock in the Church of Christ at Woodsfield.
     For the wedding the bride wore a gown of white organza and lace. The bodice featured a round neckline and three quarter length sleeves. The full street length skirt was organza over taffeta. Her veil of silk illusion was held in place by a small cap of seed pearls. She carried a white Bible topped with pink roses and showers of white ribbons and baby breath. Her only jewelry was a single strand of pearls, and pearl earrings.
Miss Leora Kahrig sister of the groom, was maid of honor. She wore a street length dress of yellow organza and carried a colonial bouquet of white carnations.
     Mr. Woodrow Mobley brother of the bride served as best man.
     Immediately following the wedding a reception was held at the bride's home for members of the immediate families and wedding party. In the evening a shower was held in their honor and they received many lovely gifts.
     The newlyweds are now residing at 427 East Main Street in Barnesville. Mr. Kahrig is employed at Sells Flower Garden.

Carpenter Reunion

The descendants of the late Benjamin and Emily Jones Carpenter held their annual reunion at Cambridge City Park, Sunday June 11.

Marriage of Mr. Byron L. Morris and Miss Myra Jean Claus

Miss Myra Jean Claus, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Claus, of Jerusalem, Ohio and Mr. Byron L. Morris, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ermie Morris of Woodsfield, Route 3, were united in marriage on Saturday evening, July fifteenth, 1967. The vows were exchanged at 6:15 p.m. at the home of Minister J. V. A. Traylor who performed the double ring ceremony. Attending the wedding were the couple's parents and the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Laura Claus; also, Mrs. David Lallathin, of Akron, Ohio, sister of the bridegroom, and Mrs. Robert Morris, of Barnesville, Ohio.

Mrs. Floyd Crawford, sister of the bride, was matron of honor.

Mr. Robert Morris, of Barnesville, served his brother as best man.

Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Beallsville High school, with over one hundred friends and relatives attending. Serving as hostesses were the bride's sisters, Mrs. Floyd Crawford and Miss Darlene Claus; and Miss Evelyn Kress, Mrs. Clara Schumacher and Miss Sharon Decker.

The bride is a graduate of Beallsville High School, Beallsville, Ohio and the School of Cosmetology at Cambridge, Ohio. She is employed at Akron, Ohio.

Mr. Morris is a graduate of Skyvue High school and is employed by the Pepsi Cola Company in Akron. He served two years in the U. S. Army, one year being spent in Korea.

Mr. and Mrs. Morris are making their home at 407 East Archwood, Akron, Ohio.

Roger H. Kahrig

Man Gets Transplant of Kidney April 9, 1968 at University Hospital
     Officials of the College of Medicine at University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio have announced the completion of seven successful kidney transplants since id-March.  Among these patients is Roger H. Kahrig, 27, of 859 Westphal Ave. Columbus, Ohio.
     Mr. Kahrig, a former Monroe County resident, is the son of Lawrence and Ella Kahrig of Lewisville, Ohio. He received a kidney from this brother, Lester J. Kahrig, of Pataskala, Ohio, in a 10-hour operation performed April 9, 1968 at the hospital in Columbus.
    The assistant professor of surgery at the hospital in Columbus announced that Mr. Kahrig is doing well.  He returned to his home for two weeks in May and is now a patient at the hospital for observation and further treatment.

William A. Leach

FT. RUCKER, ALA--Sergeant First Class William A. Leach, son of Mrs. Sylvia L. Yaw, Quaker City, received his second award of the Army Commendation Medal late last month at Ft. Rucker, Ala., upon retirement from the Army after more than twenty years of service.

Sgt. Leach received the award for meritorious service during his last assignment as senior instructor and noncommissioned officer in charge of testing activities conducted by the Multi-Engine Branch Fixed Wing Division Department of Maintenance Training, U.S. Army Aviation School.

He entered the Army in July 1948 and completed basic training at Ft. Dix, N.J. He also received a certificate of appreciation.
