Notes for VALENTINE JOSEPH FROEHLICH:

Mr. Valentine Froehlich, one of our older and highly respected German citizens, who is believed to have waded to his death in the municipal reservoir Saturday morning, was found that evening about 5:30 after several hours search by his family and friends. Mr. Froehlich, who has been in declining health for several months, left his home on North Broadway Saturday morning to take a walk over town. As he had been despondent for some time over his condition, the family became uneasy when he did not return after the noon hour. Inquiry was made everywhere he was in the habit of going, and Miss Dessie Hartley, who lives on the waterworks road, overhearing an inquiry, told them she had met Mr. Froehlich that morning as she came to work. Relatives and his sons went to the reservoir and, in looking among the clumps of bushes in their search, happened upon a hat under a stone and investigating, found it to belong to the missing man. Officers were notified and by the aid of a boat and grab hooks, soon brought the body to the surface. Coroner pronounced the death self-destruction by drowning and the body was removed to the Campbell Funeral Home where it was prepared for burial. On Monday service was conducted in the Church of the Assumption by Rev. Father Sullivan and burial was made in the Catholic cemetery.

The deceased was born in Grmany August 12, 1854, a son of Valentine Froehlich. He came to America early in life with a wife and four children and located in Pittsburgh. Soon after he, with his family moved to Barnesville where he was employed with two other brothers in the Barnesville Window Glass Factory. At the suspension of this industry, he settled on a farm south of town, where he lived until a few years ago when he moved to his late home. His first wife died many years ago and he later married Mrs. Minnie Reischman Clary, who with eleven children survive him: Joseph, Minnie, John Lawrence, Charles, Fred, and Clemens Froehlich, Barnesville; Mrs. Martina Ebeling, Miss Augusta Froehlich, Wheeling, Andy Froehlich, Jamestown, California; George Froehlich, Zanesville; also two brothers, Enoch Froehlich, Barnesville and James Froehlich, Germany.
