ST. PETER'S GERMAN EVANGELICAL PROTESTANT CHURCH AT LEWISVILLE, OHIO

View 3 - Cemetery and back of St. Peter's in Lewisville, Ohio

This photo of the St. Peter's German Evangelical Protestant Church of Lewisville, Ohio was taken in November 2002. The cemetery immediately behind the church (shown here) is much older and about half the size of the cemetery behind the photographer. In this portion of the cemetery, most of the monuments are written in German. Most have eroded and many are no longer readable. The inscriptions on most of the monuments in the newer part of the cemetery (behind the photographer) are written in English. In September of 1962 St. Peters of Lewisville consolidated with two other churches (St. Peter's of Miltonsburg and St. John's, also called Middle Church) to form the Trinity United Church of Christ. The Trinity United Church of Christ now maintains the cemetery at St. Peter's.

Following cessation of services at St. Peter's of Lewisville in 1962, a group/church from Maryland established the Lewisville Bible Mission Church in the old St. Peter's building. This effort eventually failed and the building was sold and pressed into service as an automotive garage and tire shop.
