was born in Woodsfield, July 31, 1923, the daughter of James F. and Clara
Windland Norris. She was a resident of

married for 63 years and four months.
She also is survived by two daughters and sons-in- law, Karen and Dan Hyatt
of Ashland and Janice and Robert Curry Sr. of Middleburg Fla; and three sons
and daughters- law, Larry and Norma Goon of Ashland, Michael and Lisa Goon of
Mansfield and Jeff and Connie Goon of Middleburg, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 28
great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Her parents, three sisters
and five brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2005, in

Saturday (May 21, 2005) at The Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus.
He was born Jan. 16, 1927, in

World War II and the Korean War. He was a retired auto body repairman.

age 70, lost her battle with breast cancer on Tuesday, August 23, 2005,

her life with grace, humor, and a genuine love for her family and friends. She
died peacefully with a smile on her lips.
She was the daughter of the late Alfred and Gertrude Christman Kahrig of

waitress, carhop, retail sales clerk, seamstress, billing clerk, and Red Cross
volunteer. More recently, she was an administrative assistant with First
Community retirement village, retiring on July 22, 1997. After retirement, she
continued to make the world a beautiful place as a Mary Kay beauty consultant.
She is preceded in death by
her father, Alfred, who died in 1993; her mother, Gertrude, in 1995; an infant
sister; brothers Raymond, Melvin, and Marion; maternal grandfather George L.
Christman; maternal grandmother Magdalena Matz Christman; paternal grandfather
Philip William Kahrig; and paternal grandmother Louisa Pfalzgraf Kahrig.
She is survived by her
husband Tomas E. Pettit whom she married Aug. 15, 1992; children Tony Allen
Gatten of Los Angeles, CA and Kathy Gatten Johnson (Jeff) of Loganville, GA;
stepchildren Jennie Pettit Cherry (Tom) of Verona, NJ, Susanne Pettit Brackman

SUNNYSIDE
- Veda Leona Harrison, a long time resident of Selah and a current resident of Sunnyside,
passed away November 12, 2005 at the age of 93. She was the second child born
to John D. and Essie Mae (Carr) Kinkade in Grovespring, Missouri on September
26, 1912.
Veda
and her family moved from Missouri to Washington to Montana, but in 1934 they
returned to Washington to settle in
Mabton. She lived there with her family until 1941 when she married the love of
her life Harvey H. Harrison on June 1. The couple made their home together in
Selah. Veda worked 25 years for the Selah School District and retired in 1974.
She and Harvey enjoyed the outdoors and bought a small cabin on White Pass
where they spent many years entertaining friends and family until Harvey's
death in 1983. Veda also enjoyed fishing and camping as well as reading a good
book and creating pretty patterns with needles and thread or yarn. Veda made
her home in Selah and enjoyed playing in her pinochle group until 2002 when she
decided to move to Sunnyside to be closer to her sister and her family.
Veda
will be missed by her numerous nieces and nephews who loved to listen to her
stories while eating her famous Rice Krispy squares and sugar cookies.
Veda
is survived by her son Dale Charles Harrison of West Virginia, two
granddaughters; Dalene Everrett of Othello and Bobbie Jo (Richard) Anderson of
Kansas, three great-grandchildren, sister Thelma Satterfield of Sunnyside, and
sister-in-laws Iola Kinkade, Beulah Klopp, Bea Harrison, and Barbara Harrison
as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Her
husband Harvey preceded her in death as well as her parents John and Essie, and
two brothers Harvey and Charles Kinkade.
At
Veda's request, in lieu of flowers, gifts of love may be made to the Shriners
Children Hospital. Visitation can be made at Keith & Keith Funeral Home of

She was a member of the Brownsville Church of Christ.
Surviving are her husband, John Riggs, of New Matamoras; daughter, Bonnie Morris, of the home; step-son, John Riggs of Canton; sister, Gladys Salisbury, of Sardis; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Harry Leon Morris; step-son, Kenneth Riggs; three brothers, Chester, Freeman and Clyde Morris; three sisters, Beulah Crawford, Grace Henthorn and Ellen Nolen.

born Oct. 18, 1928, in Hannibal, to the late James Wilford and Evelyn Finlaw
Howell. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Moscow United Methodist
Church. Her family was her hobby. She loved to cook and bake for everyone.

"Hoopi" Joseph Blair, whom she married April 17, 1948, also died.
She is survived by a

Methodist Church and the American Legion and VFW.

veteran serving during World War II.
Surviving are his
wife, Shirley Pittman Dougherty, whom he married June 23, 1962; one daughter,

Rob was a loving son, father, brother, uncle and friend, who

Christian by faith.

Prichard, Henry L., 94, of Beallsville; husband, grandfather, great-grandfather
and friend to all, passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 27, 2005 in Barnesville
Hospital. Henry was a graduate of Morehead State University and the University
of Kentucky. He came to Beallsville in 1937 after having taught and coached for
six years in Kentucky. While at Beallsville, he taught general science,
physics, chemistry, biology and algebra. He also coached basketball and
baseball and in 1947, he established the football program at Beallsville High
School. Mr. Prichard was made principal at Beallsville and later became the
county superintendent. Through his efforts, the vocational school was
established. He remained in educational work for 48 years. His other
achievements were three years in the Army in Hawaii with a radar unit for early
aircraft warning; 15 years as Belmont Technical College trustee; 50 years with
the American Legion; 60 years in the Masonic Lodge as a 32nd degree Mason;
membership in the Aladdin Shrine Club; Phi Delta Kappa, an educational
organization at the graduate level; and Kiwanis Club in which he held the
position of lieutenant-governor in 1975- 1976. He was also a Kentucky Colonel
and one of the three founders
of the Switzerland of Ohio Country Club. He was a member of the Beallsville
United Methodist Church. Henry was born Oct. 17, 1910 at Sandy Hook, Kentucky,
son of the late George and Bernice Womeldorf Prichard.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and
Frederick.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Danford
Prichard; a son Stephen (Rose Mary) Prichard of Beallsville and a daughter,
Diana (Ronald) Butler of Lexington, Ky.; a brother, George Prichard and a
sister, Jean Keele, both of Texas; six
grandchildren: Matt, Mark, Lori, Jocelyn, Susan and Anne and five
great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 9 p.m., at the
Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville where service will be held at 11 a.m.,
Saturday with Rev. Richard Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in
Beallsville Cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post #368.
Masonic services will be conducted Friday at 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

She was born in Jerusalem, Ohio, on Nov. 20, 1911, a
daughter of the late Maywood Ira and Della Ina Shouse Pennell.
She was a 1931 graduate of the former Lewisville High
School, Lewisville; a homemaker; a member of the Trinity Church of Christ near
Lewisville; the Lewisville Methodist Church; and was a member of the Farm
Bureau. She formerly resided at the Inn of Marietta before going to the Arbors
of Marietta.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
first husband, Raymond Carpenter on Oct. 10, 1965; her second husband, Wesley
T. Weber, on Aug. 24, 1999; three brothers, Glen, Halbert, and Cyril Pennell; a
grandson, Todd Piatt; a son-in-law, Lester L. Piatt; and two stepsons, Robert
and Vernon Weber.
Surviving are two daughters, Anna Lee Piatt of Marietta and

very loved man and will be greatly missed.

her residence. She was born Feb. 13, 1975, in Warren, Ohio, to Charles E. and
Margaret K. Somerville Mercer. Jennifer was a 1993 Pymatuning Valley High
School graduate. She was employed by
Country Neighbor as a private home health aid for the past 10 years and she
attended the Beacon Baptist Church in Williamsfield.
Jennifer was a family oriented person. She truly enjoyed taking care of her family
and being a loving mother and aunt. She
also loved the elderly and caring for them.
Jennifer is survived by her two sons, Kurtis E. Marsh and
Lucas R. Marsh, and a daughter, Katlyn C. Marsh, all of Williamsfield; her
parents, Charles E. and Margaret K. Mercer of Williamsfield; her sister,
Patricia D. Mercer of Williamsfield; her brother, Donald P. Mercer of
Williamsfield; and her maternal grandmother, Zelda L. Somerville Mercer of
Williamsfield; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in
death by her maternal grandfather, Ernest L. Somerville; paternal grandparents,
Burl C. and Evelyn I. Mercer; two cousins, Laura Somerville and Cindy

Square Dance Club. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, and most of all her
grandchildren.
She is
survived by one son, Robert Henthorne (Barbara) of Marietta; two grandchildren,
Lisa Anderson of Marietta and Bob Henthorne Jr. (Brenda) of Marietta; five
great-grandchildren, Michael Henthorne (Margaret) of Norfolk, Va., and Amy
Henthorne, Shane Henthorne, Adam Anderson and Elizabeth Anderson, all of
Marietta; three great-great-grandchildren, Dominique and Tyler Henthorne and
Caleb Anderson; one sister, Jean Weber (Weldon) of Brandon, Fla.; and several
nieces and nephews.
She was
preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Emerson "Em"
Henthorne, on July 15, 1995. They was married on Jan. 22, 1936; and also by one
sister, Freda Perdew.
Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Pinehurst Christian Church
with Evangelist Dennis Frary officiating. Burial will be in Tunnel Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and anytime Saturday at the Marietta
Chapel of Cawley & Peoples
Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 2

Adams, Lawrence Paton, Scio, died September 16, 2005. He was
born June 2, 1920 in Monroe County. He was the only child of the late George
and Zillah Paton Adams. He attended the Rinard Mills two-room school and
graduated from Graysville High School in 1938. He attended and graduated cum
laude from Ohio University in 1942 with a bachelors of science in education
degree. In 1951, he received his masters in school administration from Ohio
University where he also did advanced graduate work. His teaching experiences
were at Graysville, Lewisville, Woodsfield and Skyvue high schools in Monroe
County.
He served in administrative capacity at Lewisville, Woodsfield and
Skyvue. In 1962 he moved to Scio as superintendent of schools and later served
as assistant superintendent of Harrison Hills City School District. He was assigned
as principle at Jewett-Scio High School in 1971 from which he retired in 1980.
A member of the Scio United Methodist Church, he provided
leadership in many church committees. Service to his community consisted of
memberships in Scio American Legion Post 482, Scio Civic Club, Scio Masonic
Lodge and Dining Fork Ruritans. He served as president, secretary, and
treasurer on the local level during his 42 years as a member. He was also zone
governor, district governor and national director of Ruritan for the Ohio
Ruritan District. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the European Theater with
a unit of combat engineers. Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Freda Carson
Adams; two daughters, Sharon Lynn & John Spring of Dennison and Debra Kay
& Steve Starkey of Zanesville; four grandchildren, Kevin and Julie Spring
and Krista and Greg Starkey.
Service was held Oct. 3 in the Scio United Methodist Church with
Pastor Jim Ricketts and the Rev. Mark Unrue officiating. Burial was in Fairview
Gardens Cemetery in Jewett. Memorial contributions may be made to the Scio
United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, PO Box 554, Scio or Hospice of
Tuscarawas County, 201 W. 3rd St., Dover, 44622. Arrangements were by Koch

Rev. Hissom was the son of Rev. Earl G. Hissom Sr.
and Tressa Lena DODD. The Rev. Hissom is survived by his three children, Earl
G. Hissom III, Th.D., of Charleston, Judith Hall of Kentucky and Sharon Reed of
Colliers, W.Va.; eight grandchildren, Eric and Phil Hissom of Florida, Yvonne
Donlon of Charleston, Jeff LaChance of Delaware, Brad LaChance and Kye Fadeley
of Texas, Kristy LaChance of North Carolina and Joya Fadeley of California; and
four great-grandchildren. He is further survived by two brothers and one sister
of Charleston, Earnest, Albert and Roxie Hamer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia;
parents, Earl and Tressa Hissom; brother, Charles and George; and sisters, Mary
Graham, Elizabeth Cash, Betty Atkins and Carol Ross. Rev. Earl Jr. was a
minister, evangelist and religious leader in West Virginia. He was converted and
called to preach at age 17 in a tent meeting being conducted by his father,
Earl G. Hissom Sr., located at the corner of Madison and Randolph Streets, the
current location of Sav-A-Lot and Agsten Manor. Before joining the Church of
the Nazarene in 1945, the Rev. Hissom sold Bibles, held tent meetings,
conducted revivals and preached whenever and wherever he could. He then
pastored at Uneeda and Seth. When the Seth church was organized into a Nazarene
Church by District Superintendent Dr. Oney, he lost his pastorate. Dr. Oney
said, "That's okay, son. Don't be upset. The Church of the Nazarene has
lots of places for you to preach." And they kept him busy the next 25
years, pasturing in Seth, New Martinsville, Glasgow, Weirton, Southeast
Nazarene and Capitol View Nazarene in Charleston. He also served as an
evangelist. During the years that he pastored for the Church of the Nazarene,
the Rev. Hissom was able to report gains in all departments with all budgets
paid. At every pastorate, he made notable capital improvements to church
properties. He served on various boards and committees of the West Virginia
District of the Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Hissom was instrumental in
planting several Holiness churches, including Burnsville, Ohio, Paris, Pa., Handley,
Hooverson Heights, Colliers Way, Capitol View (now known as South Hills Church
of the Nazarene) and the Church of Emmanuel in Charleston, and Gap Mills. The
Rev. Hissom served as a mentor and encourager for many young, aspiring
ministers, such as John Hancock, Harold Runyon, Carl Gray, James Withrow, Paul
Nester, Tony Costello and many others. During a recent telephone call, Mrs.
John Hancock expressed their deep appreciation for the tremendous amount of
time the Rev. Hissom spent with them in their early Christian lives. After his
retirement from the Nazarene Church, the Rev. Hissom operated a Bible selling
business, pastored the Hissom Holiness Tabernacle and the Church of Emmanuel,
Charleston, and Harry Peyton Tabernacle, Hinton. He continued to hold revivals
across the state of West Virginia, preach whenever and wherever he was called
and frequently conducted radio broadcasts. He also worked as a fundraiser
throughout the state for fire and police departments, emergency services and
health clinics through RMJ Studios. The Rev. Hissom was a renowned Bible
scholar. His favorite pastime was studying the Bible, preparing sermons and
discussing the scriptures. His hobbies were walking, hunting and watching old
westerns on TV.

SUNNYSIDE - Elmer Lee Satterfield, 81, beloved husband,
father, and grandfather died Thursday, July 28, 2005, peacefully at home in
Sunnyside after a long fight against cancer. Elmer was born September 7, 1923
to Roper Lee and Ersa Margaret (Brown) Satterfield in Palisade, Colorado. He was the youngest of ten children. He
never had a chance to graduate from school so farming was the dearest thing to
him besides family. He loved working with mother earth and could always be
found outside till dark. In
1942, Elmer came to Washington to visit his brother and met his future wife,
Thelma I. Kinkade, of Mabton. He went into the Navy in 1943 and served in World
War II. On June 19, 1945, he received military leave and married Thelma in
Selah. Later that year he received an honorable discharge. In 1946, the first
of his two children was born, David E., and Karen L. They were his pride and
joy.
Elmer and Thelma settled in Mabton and farmed on Satus for
several years. He loved raising mint, hay, corn, potatoes, sugar beets, and
cattle. Elmer was known for his
beautiful, straight rows, and large and weed-less gardens that grew the best
tasting vegetables around. In 1971, Elmer went to work for the Mabton School
District as maintenance man. He later went to work for the Grandview School
District and retired in 1988 as Maintenance Supervisor.
After retirement, Elmer and Thelma had time to travel.
They spent most of their time traveling to Washington State Fiddlers Contests
and to the best-known fishing holes. Elmer learned how to play guitar at a
young age and enjoyed playing with friends till the wee hours of the
morning. He won many awards and trophies
for best accompanist at various local contests and at the National level.
After Elmer was diagnosed with cancer, he wasn't able to
go fishing and camping as much so he spent a lot of his time chewing the fat
with various people at the Outpost while having coffee. Elmer will be deeply
missed by all who knew and loved him.
Elmer is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Thelma; two dear
children, David Satterfield and wife Margaret of Richland and Karen Satterfield
of Sunnyside; three special granddaughters, Rene' Martinez and husband Ramon of
Palmer, Alaska, Monica Stanton and husband, Paul of Grandview, and Nanci
Shrauner and fiance' Mike Rushman of Pasco; four darling great-grandchildren;
his faithful companion, Mandi, his dog; and several nieces and nephews. His
parents, four brothers, and five sisters, precede him in death.
Viewing will be Sunday from noon until 6 p.m. and
Monday, Tuesday &Wednesday from noon until 8:00 p.m. at the Sunnyside
Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday,
August 4, 2005 at 10 a.m. at the Sunnyside Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral
Home. Burial will follow in the Mabton
Cemetery.

ALTMAN, Emma R. Richner, 83, formerly of G.C.&P. Road,
Wheeling, W.Va., died Wednesday, February 9, 2005 in the Bishop Joseph H.
Hodges Continuous Care Center, Wheeling.
She was born June 24, 1921 in Woodsfield, Ohio, daughter
of the late Frederick and Elsie Schultze Richner.
Mrs. Altman was a member of the St. Michael's Catholic
Church, Wheeling.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
her husband, Harlen W. Altman Sr. in 1987; two brothers; and three sisters.
Surviving are a son, Harlen W. Altman Jr. of Moundsville;
a daughter, Rosie DeSantis and her husband, Frank, of Bethlehem; two
grandchildren, Stacie Dei and her husband, Todd, and Jeffrey Zan; and three
sisters, Dora Beaver Cunningham and Lucy Dayton of Wheeling, and Charlotte
Starkey of Cleveland,
Ohio.
Friends will be received from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday,
February 10, 2005 at the Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street, Elm Grove,
where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 11, 2005. Entombment in

John Grover Crawford, age 67 of Parral, died early Saturday
morning, February 19, 2005, in Union Hospital at Dover. For the last six years,
Mr. Crawford bravely battled lymphoma.
Born in Noble County, Ohio, November 19, 1937, he was a son of Juanita
Mae Bunting Crawford of Newcomerstown, OH and the late Raymond B.
Crawford. John was a 1956 graduate of
Batesville High School in Noble County, and worked at various places before
illness necessitated his retirement from Wayne-Dalton of Mt. Hope. John loved to travel in his camper. He and
his wife would stay in K.O.A. campgrounds from coast to coast. In 2002, he and
his wife made a memorable trip to Hawaii.
Friends and neighbors will remember Mr. Crawford for his
careful restoration of two classic pickup trucks; a 1952 and a 1932-both Fords.
Most of all, John loved his family, and always looked forward to spending time
at cookouts and holiday events. John regularly attended swap meets.
Survivors include his wife of forty-seven years, the former
Clara Regina Morris. Together, they raised a family that includes two
daughters; Cynthia (Dennis) Colvin of Uhrichsville, and Lisa (Jim) Rothacher of
Dover, two sons; Daniel Crawford and Michael Crawford, both of Dover.
He ll be sadly missed by nine grandchildren; Regina
Swauger, Lee Swauger, Chrystal Bayang, John R. Crawford, Jesse James Rothacher,
Kaci Rothacher, Tyler Crawford, Karley Crawford, and Houston Crawford, a
great-grandchild Makayla Contrael; and a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and
Bob Ryan of Newcomerstown.
In addition to his father, Mr. Crawford was preceded in
death by an infant brother, Kinnith Lee Crawford.
Private family services were held Sunday evening in the
Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Local cremation is under the care and direction
of Geib s North Dover Crematory. There are no public calling hours.

MATAMORAS - Linda Kay Mellinger, 58, of 1308 Williamson Avenue, New Matamoras,
died at 5:55 a.m. Friday (March 18, 2005) at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born June 29, 1946, in Akron, Ohio,
a daughter of Eugene Luthar and Nancy Jane Miller Dye. She was a member of the
Harmony Hill Baptist Church.
She
is survived by eight sons, Frederick M. Mellinger Jr. of Akron, John Woodard of
Evansville, Ind., Danny Woodard of Rootstown, Ohio, Rick Woodard of Akron, Dale
Woodard of Akron, Tim Woodard of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Eddie Eiseman Jr. of
Georgia, and Rodney Eiseman of Akron; two daughters, Mary Mellinger and Betty
Vandergriff, both of Akron; 29 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one
brother, Luther E. Dye and his wife, Pat, of Akron; and two sisters, Dorothy
Jean Beaver and her husband, Dick, of New Matamoras, and Betty Blankenship of
New Matamoras.
In
addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years,
Frederick M. Mellinger Sr., in 1998; one daughter, Nancy Ellen Mellinger; one
granddaughter, Heather Woodard; and one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Woodard.
Service
will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hadley Funeral Home, New Matamoras, with
Pastor Marvin Wegner officiating. Burial will be in Matamoras Cemetery. Family
will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.

COUGHLAN, Scott "Scooter" Clark, 43, of Wheeling, W.Va.,
beloved son of Jean Clark Coughlan and the late Harold A. Coughlan, passed away
Friday, May 6, 2005.
Scott
was born May 12, 1961 in Wheeling.
He was
a graduate of Wheeling Park High School; an avid sports follower; and a
Protestant by faith.
Surviving,
in addition to his mother, are two sisters, Carole Coughlan and Nancy Chatlak
and her husband, John; and several aunts and cousins, all of Wheeling.
Friends
will be received from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at the Kepner Funeral
Home, National Road at Bethany Pike, Wheeling where additional visitation will
be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2005
with Dr. Larry Kline officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of
the family.
