Helen B. Stine nee Barton

BEALLSVILLE - Helen B. Stine, 95, of Township Road 80, Beallsville, died Thursday (Jan. 1, 2004) at the Monroe County Care Center in Woodsfield. She was born March 28, 1908, in Benwood, W.Va., to Peter and Anna Mathew Barton. She was a retired employee of the former LGAM Sewing Factory in Woodsfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Stine, in 1985; one son, Paul W. Stine; one granddaughter, Adele Ross; one great-granddaughter, Bailey Norris; her parents; two brothers, Michael Barton and Joseph Barton; and three sisters, Sylvia McBride, Rosalie Barton and Mildred Daniels.

She is survived by two daughters, Katherine Bilyeu and Dorothy Burkhart, both of Beallsville; three sisters, Kay Shurko and Margaret Cook, both of Niles, Ohio, and Caroline Douglas of New Athens, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Private services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home at 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, with Pastor Joe Hise officiating. Burial is in the Jerusalem Cemetery in Jerusalem, Ohio.

 

Mary Louise Copley nee Lambert

WOODSFIELD - Mary Louise Copley, 80, of Woodsfield died Sunday (Jan. 4, 2004) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville. She was born Oct. 14, 1923, in Attalla, Ala., to Otis and Hettie Orr Lambert. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodsfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Minis Copley, in 1999; and her parents.

She is survived by three sons, Charles Copley and his wife, Leisa, of Bethesda, Ohio, David Copley and his wife, Tina, of Quaker City, and Andy Copley and his wife, Rebecca, of Woodsfield; three daughters, Sandy Tomolonis and her husband, Rodney, of Bethesda, Tausha Copley of Woodsfield and M.J. Copley of Woodsfield; three brothers, James Lambert and his wife, Alice, of Huntsville, Ala., Charles Henry Driskell and his wife, Barbara, of Gadsden, Ala., and Thomas Richard Driskell and his wife, Ann, of Gadsden; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Woodsfield with Pastor Travis Smalley officiating. Burial is in Calais Cemetery in Calais, Ohio. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home at 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, and from noon Wednesday until time for the services at the church.
   
Bernice E. Leasure nee Stewart

CALDWELL - Bernice E. Leasure, 64, of 16725 County Road 58, Caldwell, formerly of Stafford, Ohio, died at 5:13 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 3, 2004) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge. She was born June 26, 1939, near Sharon, Ohio, to Alphonso and Iva Cain Stewart. She was a homemaker and a member of Stafford United Methodist Church at Stafford.

She is survived by three daughters, Betty Stalbosky and her husband, Steven, of North Benton, Ohio, Beverly Schoeppner and her husband, Ron, of Canton and Megan Leasure at home; two sons, Darrell Leasure of Belpre and Brian Leasure of Canton; 21 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack M. Leasure, on Aug. 25, 1990; her parents; one daughter, Brenda Guiler; one son, Jack Leasure II; one brother, William Stewart; and one sister, Betty Stewart.

Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Brubach-Watters Funeral Home in Summerfield with Pastor Gary Fitzgerald officiating. Burial is in Mount Tabor Cemetery near Summerfield. Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

 

James Dale Drum

LEWISVILLE, Ohio - James Dale Drum, 59, of Lewisville died Friday (Jan. 9, 2004) at Woodsfield. He was born July 1, 1944, in Woodsfield to Raymond E. and Annie Laurie Yockey Drum. He was a retired coal miner from North American No. 4 mine in Clarington, Ohio, and was an avid farmer.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Connie L. Davis Drum of Lewisville; one daughter, Teri Majors and her husband, Todd, of Woodsfield; three sons, Mickey Drum and his wife, Beth, and Matt Drum and his partner, Robin, all of Lewisville, and Kevin Drum and his wife, Julie, of Woodsfield; one brother, Charles Drum and his wife, Lana, of Maryville, Tenn.; three sisters, Louise Riether and her husband, Charlie, of Lewisville, Mary Wiggins and her husband, Delvin, of Woodsfield and Alice Swindell of Commercial Point, Ohio; five granddaughters, Ariel, Jamie, Hanna, Nikki and Sierrea; six grandsons, Kyle, Cody, Devin, Jordan, Jesse and Vinnie; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Drexel and Myrtle Rose Davis; and one granddaughter, Deanna.

Services are at 2 p.m. today at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Warm The Children, in care of Monroe County Beacon, 103 East Court St., Woodsfield, Ohio 43793.

 

Charlotte A. Ault

WOODSFIELD - Charlotte A. Ault, 56, of the Monroe County Care Center died Monday (Jan. 5, 2004) at the center. She was born March 6, 1947, in Barnesville to Ronald T. and Ruth Conley Ault.

She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. John (Janet) Haslam of Clarington, Shirley Pealer of Woodsfield and Mrs. Francis (Judy) Blackstone of Lewisville; one brother, Rick Smith and his wife, Kim, of Thornton, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Ronald L. "Dink" Ault.

Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Watters Funeral Home in Woodsfield with Pastor Fred Ricer Jr. officiating. Burial is in Oaklawn Cemetery in Woodsfield. Friends will be received from noon Friday until the time of service at the
funeral home.

 

Virgil E. Phillips

WOODSFIELD - Virgil E. Phillips, 70, of 100 Poplar Drive died Saturday (Jan. 17, 2004) at Carrollwood University Hospital in Tampa, Fla. He was born Feb. 15, 1933, in Powhatan Point, Ohio, to Orville and Laura Smith Phillips. He was a retired employee of the Woodsfield Power and Light Plant in Woodsfield.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the Korean War. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Woodsfield and was an honorary mayor of the Hillcrest Addition in Woodsfield.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Wallace Phillips, whom he married on April 29, 1962; one daughter, Joy Falcone and her husband, John, of Tampa; two sons, John Galasso and his wife, Leigh Ann, of Grove City, Ohio, and Bob Galasso and his wife, Nancy, of Frankfort, Ky.; two sisters, Hilda Smith of Jerusalem, Ohio, and Edna Mae Brady of Rittman, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Arianne, Adam, Jennifer and Ryan Galasso, and Samantha, Gabriella and John Jr. Falcone; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Watters Funeral Home in Woodsfield with the Rev. Roger Brown officiating. Burial is in Oaklawn Cemetery in Woodsfield. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

 

Harold W. Harris

JERUSALEM, Ohio - Harold W. Harris, 82, of Jerusalem died Friday (Jan. 23, 2004) at his home. He was born Oct. 21, 1921 at Moore Ridge, Jerusalem, to Samuel A. and Edna M. Patton Harris. He was a retired farmer and attended the Church of Christ.

He is survived by his aunt, Garnett Parks of Jerusalem; cousins, Bethann Baker, James Baker, Clyde (Sandy) Patton, Mrs. William Sue Mayberry, Arthur Milhoan and Allison Milhoan; several other cousins; and caregivers, Patty Hood and Jane McBride.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services are at 1 p.m. today at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home in Woodsfield. Burial is in Jerusalem Cemetery in Jerusalem. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

 

Kenneth Dale Cline

WOODSFIELD - Kenneth D. Cline, 67, of 38000 Wolf Pen Road died at 6:05 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 25, 2004) at the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Woodsfield. He was born Feb. 10, 1936, near Woodsfield to Alonzo Elmer "Lonnie" and Edna Arrena Highman Cline. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Ohio Operating Engineers Local 18, Akron, where he was also a lifetime member. He was a member of the Graysville Church of Christ in Graysville. He was a
former Wayne Township trustee in Monroe County.

He is survived by his wife, Rosalie J. Paden Cline; three daughters, Mrs. Daniel (Lisa) Robertson of Lewisville, Mrs. Bruce (Joy) Watters of Woodsfield and Mrs. Thomas (Janice) Lemon of Holmesville, Ohio; four sisters, Mrs. Herbert (Grethel) Shafer of Ashland, Ohio, Mrs. Roy (Dorothy "Dot") Fink of Newark, Jean Ambrus of Newark and Wilma Babcock of Frazeysburg, Ohio; one brother, Hilton "Pete" Cline and his wife, Evelyn, of Polk, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Lucas D. Robertson, Craig A. Robertson, Kara N. Watters, Kendra J. Lemon and Kenton D. Lemon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Denzil Cline, Robert Cline, Herbert Cline and Eddie Cline.

Junior E. Leasure

CALDWELL - Junior E. Leasure, 73, of 910 Belford St., formerly of Monroe County, died at 4:45 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 24, 2004) at Select Specialty Hospital in Columbus. He was born Jan. 21, 1931, near Stafford, Ohio, to Bert Otis and Blanche
Marie Brown Leasure. He was a retired construction laborer for 35 years and was a member of the Laborers Union Local 639 at Marietta. He was owner/operator of the Wolf Run Bait Shop near Belle Valley, Ohio, and was a former Franklin Township trustee in Monroe County with 32 years of service. He was also a member of Tabor Ridge Methodist Church near Summerfield. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball for several years and enjoyed watching baseball and basketball sporting events. He also enjoyed taking his Pontiac Firebird to area car shows and parades.

He is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Irene) Tidd of Newport, Mrs. Rodney (Darlene) Bettinger of Caldwell, Donna Bennett of Delaware, Ohio, Mrs. Hank (Debbie) Williams of Marietta, Kandi McQueary of Caldwell and Mrs. Rodney (Mechele) Nichols of Beverly; one son, Shawn Leasure at home; one sister, Margaret Dillon of Marietta; two brothers, Lloyd Leasure of Caldwell and Ed Leasure Sr. of Byesville, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

On May 6, 1950, he married Hester M. McGilton Leasure. She died Oct. 18, 2000. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Rebecca Joyce Goff; and three brothers, Roger, Harold and Jim Leasure.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Watters Funeral Home in Woodsfield with Pastor Gary Fitzgerald officiating. Burial is in Mount Tabor Cemetery near Summerfield. Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Helen Mae Schwall nee Grant

WOODSFIELD - Helen Mae Schwall, 85, of Monroe Manor died Sunday (Jan. 25, 2004) at Wheeling Hospital. She was born Sept. 3, 1918, in Monroe County to Charles Grant and Opal Hubbard Grant. She was a retired 20-year employee of the Monroe County Health Department. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ at Woodsfield and Woodsfield Chapter 268, Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by one son, William D. Schwall and his wife, Jo Ann, of Woodsfield; one daughter, Jo Ellyn Kaiser and her husband, John F. Jr., of Woodsfield; three grandchildren, Jill Kaiser Lemasters and her husband, Jason, John Kaiser III and his wife, Johnna, and Jay Schwall, all of Woodsfield; two great-grandchildren, Jaren and Jocelyn Lemasters; one nephew, Sandy Grant and his wife, Pat, of Edina, Mo.; and one niece, Erma Forshey and her husband, Hugh, of Cambridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy "Hank" Schwall; her parents; and an infant daughter, Judith Kay Schwall.

Robert A. McGraw

SUMMERFIELD - Robert A. McGraw, 72, of Summerfield, formerly of Akron, died Monday morning (Jan. 26, 2004) at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell. He was born Dec. 3, 1931, in Akron to Paul B. and Vera C. Lantzer McGraw. He
was a former insurance adjuster. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Summerfield American Legion Post 415 and First Brethren Church in Ellet, Ohio. He was a longtime supporter of Crypton Brethren Church near Hazard, Ky.

He is survived by his father of Caldwell; one brother, Paul B. (Jean) McGraw of Tennessee; four nieces; one nephew; eight grandnephews; two grandnieces; one great-grandnephew; and one great-grandniece.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Services are at noon Saturday at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home in Caldwell with the Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating. Burial is in Forrest Hill Cemetery in Canton. Military honors will be conducted by Caldwell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4721 and Belle Valley American Legion Post 641.


Carl Emerson Ayers Sr.

SARDIS - Carl Emerson Ayers Sr., 72, of Lakeview Drive, Sardis (Antioch community), died Monday (Jan. 26, 2004) at Wetzel County Hospital in New Martinsville, W.Va. He was born Aug. 12, 1931, in Sycamore Valley, Ohio, to Isaac Ayers and
Carrie Nalley Ayers. He was a retired 35-year employee of Ormet Corp. in Hannibal, Ohio, as a D.C. caster. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ, Eastern Star Lodge 268 of Woodsfield and Masonic Lodge 300 of Stafford. He was a 32nd Degree Mason.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet Marshall Ayers; one son, Leslie M. Ayers Sr.; one brother, Harold Ayers; and one sister, Pearl Lindamood.

He is survived by his wife, Rosalie Borman Ayers, whom he married on May 12, 1962; two sons, Lewis Ayers of Whipple, and Carl Ayers Jr. and his wife, Lori, of Clarington; three daughters, Crystal Eikleberry and her husband, Russel, of Sardis, Peggy Winland and her husband, Tom, of Lewisville, and Tina McIntire and her husband, Preston, of Clarington; one sister, Dorothia Hall and her husband, Floyd, of Graysville; one brother, Melvin Ayers and his wife, Laura, of Sycamore Valley; one sister-in-law, Stella Ayers of Frazeysburg, Ohio; one brother-in-law, Ralph Lindamood of Massillon; 19 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home at 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, with Tim Fleeman officiating. Burial is in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery at Graysville. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where Eastern Star lodge services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, followed by Masonic lodge services at 7:30 p.m.

Peggy B. Van Nest nee Brown

Peggy B. (Brown) Van Nest, 77, formerly of Martins Ferry, Ohio, and Wheeling, W. Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004 at the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Woodsfield, Ohio. She was born Jan. 9, 1927 in London, England, a daughter of the late John E. and Lily (Bowman) Brown. Peggy retired from the former L. S. Good & Co. of Wheeling, and was a member
of the First United Methodist Church of Martins Ferry where she was active in the Friendly Class.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Van Nest, five brothers: Thomas, John, Sidney, Leonard and Edward Brown and a sister, Lillian.

Surviving are a sister, Phyliss Brown of Cambridgeshire, England and several nephews and nieces including Mary Lou Patch and her husband Anthony of Beallsville, Ohio, with whom she resided.

Friends will be received Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004 from 11 a.m., until time of services at 1 p.m., with Rev. Van D. Fisher officiating at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, Ohio. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donors choice.

 

Robert D. Wise

WOODSFIELD - Robert D. Wise, 70, of 39678 State Route 800, Woodsfield, (Antioch Community), died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 29, 2004) at his home. He was born March 28, 1933, in Bellaire, Ohio, to Robert V. and Mary Evelyn Wise Masters. He was a retired television repairman, having formerly owned and operated the former Wise T.V. near Antioch.

He is survived by his wife, Anna "Ann" Marie Hayes Wise, whom he married on May 10, 1952; three sons, Donald Wise and his wife, Brenda, of Sandyville, Robert "Bob" Wise and his wife, Sheilla, of Jerusalem, Ohio, and Rodney Wise and his wife, Sherri, of Woodsfield; one brother, Charles "Jim" Wise and his wife, Kathy, of Canton; one stepbrother, Bob Masters of Beach City; three sisters, Ruth Elizabeth "Betty" Rufo and her husband, Mike, of North Canton, Charlene Herrod of Massillon, and Karen Schubert and her husband, Al, of Texas; four grandchildren, Jason Wise and his wife, Heather, Sascha Wise, C.J. Wise and Denise Carpenter; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Watters Funeral Home in Woodsfield with Father David Gaydosik officiating. Burial is in Antioch Cemetery in Antioch with military services. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

 

Boyd G. Gatten

WOODSFIELD - Boyd G. Gatten, 72, of Conner Ridge Road died Sunday (Feb. 1, 2004) at Barnesville Hospital. He was born Jan. 6, 1932, in Monroe County, Ohio, to Floyd D. Gatten and Birdie Gallagher Gatten. He had worked in the timber industry. He was a member of the Richfork Church of Christ.

He is survived by his twin brother, Lloyd Gatten and his wife, Mary Lou, of Woodsfield; two sisters, Bonnie McCaslin and her husband, Franklin, and Linda Lucas, both of Woodsfield; a special friend, Evelyn Daugherty of Woodsfield; one cousin, Naomi Smith of Woodsfield; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Dale Jack Gatten Jr.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home at 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, with Harold Kinney officiating. Burial is in Oaklawn Cemetery at Woodsfield. Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

 

Roger J. Cox

WOODSFIELD - Roger J. Cox, 96, of Woodsfield died Thursday (Feb. 5, 2004) at the Columbus Colony Care Center in Westerville, Ohio. He was born Aug. 6, 1907, in Graysville, Ohio, to Leander Cox and Clorinda Daugherty Cox. He was a retired rural mail carrier for 42 years, and also owner/operator of the Cox Sawmill and started the first automated car wash in Woodsfield. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ at Woodsfield and K of P Lodge at Woodsfield.

He is survived by one son, William Cox and his wife, Patsy, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; one daughter, Pamela Faiella of Columbus; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Perthena Baker Cox, in 1999; two sons, Jack E. Cox and Eugene Cox; three brothers; two sisters; and one infant sister.

Services are at 11 a.m. today at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, with the Rev. Cliff Garris officiating. Burial is in Oaklawn Cemetery in Woodsfield.

 

Denver F. Abicht

Denver F. Abicht, 73, of Cisler Drive, Marietta, died at 10:47 p.m. Monday (Feb. 2, 2004) at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 15, 1930, in Marietta to Carl and Bernice Dixon Abicht. He was a 1948 graduate of Marietta High School and was employed at Hall Brothers Inc. from 1946 to 1948. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 until 1952 during the Korean conflict and held the rank of staff sergeant when he was honorably discharged. He was later employed at the Brickwede Furniture Co. from 1952 to 1954. He later moved to Elyria, Ohio, where he worked at the Pfaudler Factory as a drill press operator. After returning to Marietta, he was again employed by Hall Brothers Inc. from 1955 to 1965 as service parts manager. From 1965 to 1979 he was business coordinator at Marietta Apparatus Co. He attended Ohio State University and became an industrial electricity instructor at Washington County Vocational School from 1979 until his retirement in 1992.

He was a member of the Sixth and Washington Streets Church of Christ in Marietta. He was a life member of Washington County 40/8, Washington County Voiture 389, at Highland Park, and held all offices during his 31 years of service. His summer pastime was mowing the grass at Highland Park. He was a member of American Legion Post 64 of Marietta and was past president of the Marietta Firefighters Association. He had also been a member of the Washington County Fish and Game Club. He loved to travel, especially during his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Winona J. Gatten Abicht, whom he married on Dec. 31, 1950; one son, Denver D. Abicht and his wife, Holly, of Marietta; one daughter, Cathy B. Abicht of Janesville, Wis.; one foster daughter, Gail Lucas of Parkersburg; one granddaughter, Erica J. Abicht DeFord and one great-granddaughter, Trinity R. Lloyd Leasure, 66, of Caldwell, died Feb 1, 2004, at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. He was born Feb 17, 1937, near Stafford, a son of the late Bert Otis and Blanch Marie Brown Leasure. He was a graduate of the former Stafford High School, served as construction laborer, having retired after 40 years of service, was a member of the Laborers Union Local # 639 Marietta. He owned and operated the Wolf Run Bait Ship for many years. He was a member of the Tabor Ridge Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Gallagher Leasure; four sons, Boyd (Pam) Leasure, of Caldwell, Mike (Dee Dee) Leasure, of Sarahsville, Danny (Lisa) Leasure, of Caldwell, Jeff (Donna) Leasure, of Caldwell; four daughters, Mrs Landon (Peggy) Smith, of Caldwell, Mrs. Paul (Tina) Tonnous, of Byesville, Mrs. Keith (Denise) Young, of Woodsfield, Heather Rutter, of Caldwell; 28 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Ed Leasure, Sr., of Byesville; sister, Margaret Dillon, of Marietta.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Helen Leasure; four brothers, Harold, Jim, Roger and Junior Leasure.

Friends were received Feb. 3 at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell, where funeral services will be held Feb. 4, 2004 at 1 p.m., with Rev. Keith Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Tabor Cemetery.

CALDWELL - Evelyn C. Christman, 75, of Caldwell died Monday evening (Feb. 23, 2004) at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell. She was born Dec. 8, 1928, in Noble County to Harley and Matilda Arnold Blake. She had owned and operated Evelyn's Beauty Shop in Caldwell for many years and was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church.

She is survived by one son, Thomas A. Davis of Caldwell; one daughter, Sandi K. (Robert) Stapleton of Huffman, Texas; one stepson, Gerald Christman of Woodsfield; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter L. Christman, on March 6, 1992; and her parents.

Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Stephen Catholic Church with Father Dale Tornes officiating. Burial is in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Catherine Elizabeth Bigler, 92, of Armstrong-Centerville Road, Jacobsburg, Ohio, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004 in the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Woodsfield, Ohio. She was born Nov. 30, 1911 in Marion, Ohio, a daughter of the late James Blaine and Freda Lenora Cowan (Jeffers) Jeffries. Catherine was a retired elementary-kindergarten teacher with the Powhatan-York School System, a member of Eastern Star Captina Chapter #489. She was known in Powhatan for her love of quilting and Azalea gardening. She was a Christian.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry M. Bigler, Sr., a sister Margaret Belle Jeffries; three brothers, George Jeffries, Phon Jeffers and Glenn Jeffries.

Surviving are a son, H. Melvin Bigler, Jr., and his wife, Mattie, of Jacobsburg; a daughter, Arlene Lucas and her husband, Jim of Pittsburgh; a brother, Woodrow Jeffers and his wife Elizabeth, of Powhatan Point; a granddaughter, Cindy Hughes and her husband, Dustin of Powhatan Point; four great grandchildren, Jessica Allen, Justin Allen, Bailey Hughes and Hunter Hughes, all of Powhatan Point.

Friends received Friday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Bauknecht - Altmeyer Funeral Home, 186 Main Street, Powhatan Point, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, with Lorna Knight officiating. WOODSFIELD - Rosemary L. Hise, 68, of 44890 State Route 78 East, Woodsfield, died Tuesday (Feb. 24, 2004) at her home after a brief illness. She was born June 26, 1935, at Atlantic City, N.J., to Louis G. and Mary E. Lore Pashley. She was a professional musician and was a retired real estate agent licensed in both Ohio and West Virginia for the former United Real Estate in Woodsfield. She was also associated with Hise Motors of Woodsfield. She was a member and music director of the School House Church in Belmont, Ohio, and was also a music director at the Woods 'n' Water Park in Mount Dora, Fla., where her winter home was located. She learned to play the piano at age 13 and music had always been a large part of her life. She was a church organist for 50 years. She had also served as a choir director and band director, was a former music chairwoman for Christian Women's Club, was Youth for Christ organist in Orlando, Fla., and had also played at Disney World in Florida. She also played the accordion, saxophone and glockenspiel. She had been active in Scouting and garden clubs and had played for many civic affairs and nursing homes, including the Monroe County Care Center, Children's Hospitals, VA hospitals and various camp meetings.

She is survived by her husband, Donald "Rocky" Hise, whom she married on Nov. 11, 1951; one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Donna Rose) "Rose" Roskovensky of Fairchance, Pa.; one son, Joseph B. "Joe" Hise Sr. and his wife, Della Mae, of Woodsfield; one sister, Mrs. Charles (Eleanor) Stewart of Mount Dora, Fla.; one brother, Melvin Pashley and his wife, Mattie, of Mannford, Okla.; five grandchildren, Mrs. Thomas (Rebecca Dawn) Aman of Bridgeport, W.Va., Donald "Beau" Gump Jr. of Wallace, W.Va., Joseph B. "Joe Joe" Hise Jr. of Woodsfield, Ohio State Trooper Rocky John Hise of Woodsfield and Joshua B. "Jocco" Hise of Woodsfield; one great-granddaughter, Emily E. Aman of Bridgeport, W.Va.; 13 nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, George F. Pashley.

He was a graduate of Kent Roosevelt High School. He had been employed at the former Woodsfield IGA for 18 years and also Citizens National Bank of Woodsfield. He was also self-employed at the Bowen family farm. He lived his life as a devout Christian.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Vasil Bowen; one daughter, Wendi Pinkerton of Beallsville; one son, Joey Bowen of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Brenda Burkett and her husband, Larry, of Columbus; three grandsons, Corey, Cameron and Kristopher; one granddaughter, Mandi; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jim and Maxine Vasil of Kent, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

She was born June 19, 1939, in Cameron, Ohio, to Robert Wayne and Grace E. Twinen Minder. She was co-owner of the former Pioneer Motel, Belmont Grill and Restaurant and The Pub in Woodsfield, and also The Arnettie's Restaurant in New Martinsville, W.Va. She was a lifetime member of the Cameron Church of Christ.

She is survived by her mother of Cameron; one daughter, Shannon of Portland, Ore.; three brothers, Joe Minder of Woodsfield, Robert Dean Minder of Cameron, and Garry Minder of Woodsfield; two sisters, Linda Canter of Lewisville, Ohio, and Mary Ann Robbins of Gastonia, S.C.; five nieces; and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father; and one brother, Michael "Moe" Minder.

He retired from Conalco Aluminum in 1990. He was a member of the Laings Church of Christ and a U. S. Army veteran.

She was born July 19, 1909, in Woodsfield to John Keyser and Emma Tschappat Keyser. She was a retired Woodsfield Elementary School teacher with 40 years of service.

She was a member of Woodsfield Presbyterian Church, a past worthy matron and member of the Eastern Star Lodge of Woodsfield, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold G. Cline, in 1980; one daughter, Alice Porter, in 1997; two brothers, Phillip and Calvin Keyser; and two sisters, Clara Ward and Florence Spriggs.

She is survived by one son, James Cline and his wife, Mary V., of Woodsfield; five grandchildren, Rod Cline, Alan Cline, Jon Porter Jr., Jeffrey Porter and Christopher Porter; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oaklawn Cemetery in Woodsfield with Pastor Connie Garlick officiating. There is no visitation. Bauer-Turner Funeral Home at 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her husband, Tennyson Wade; one stepdaughter, Susan (Bruce) Priest of New Orleans, La.; four sisters, Fern Theric of Sedalia, Mo., Bernice Rinker of Springfield, Mo., Clara Martin of Las Vegas, Nev., and Shirley Stephensons of Variqua, Wis.; three brothers, Martin Connell of Dodgeville, Wis., Bill Connell of Springfield, Mo., and David Connell of Dearborn, Mo.; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

CALDWELL - Ruby D. Carpenter, 79, of the Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell, formerly of Lewisville, Ohio, died at 3 a.m. Thursday (March 11, 2004) at the nursing home. She was born Nov. 4, 1924, near Carlisle, Ohio, to Dick and Altha Rossiter Leasure. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ and the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 87 in Woodsfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Edison Carpenter, on Feb. 17, 1994; her parents; and three sisters, Nellie Leasure, Easter McElfresh and Viola Calland.

She is survived by one son, Max Carpenter and his wife, Terri, of Little Hocking; two grandsons, Scott Carpenter of Lewisville and Brent Carpenter and his wife, Trish, of Newport; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 1 p.m. today at Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, with Sam Bartrug officiating. Burial is in Friendship Cemetery at Lewisville. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. today until time for the services.

 

Chancy Leo Christy

Chancy L. Christy, 91, Richwood, died March 16, 2004, at Heartland of Marysville following a brief illness. He was born Dec. 27, 1912, in Graysville, son of the late Robert McClennan "Mac" and Isadore Arbell Byers Christy.

He was retired from the Urbana Mills after 25 years as a salesman, before that he worked with the Christy Brothers Produce in Woodsfield for 14 years. Following retirement Chancy was manager for the Richwood Community apartments for 10 years.

He was a dedicated member of the Richwood First United Methodist church, where he served on various boards and committees through the years and as custodian for many years. He served on the board for the Memorial Hospital in Marysville for 18 years and received his 2000 hour volunteer pin through the hospital. Many of those hours were spent volunteering at the Richwood Civic Center, where he was a member. He also enjoyed coon hunting and deer hunting.

Surviving are his wife, whom he maried Sept 2, 1939, Elifrede Harman Christy; two sons, Rev. James R. (Sandra) Christy, of Piqua, and Terry K. (Joyce) Christy, of covington; four grandchildren, Laina Makar, Jason "Andy: Christy, Jill R. Arent and Keith M. Christy; tow great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers; three sisters.

Friends were received March 18 at Stofcheck Funeral Home, Richwood. Services were held March 19 at the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Joseph Rhea officiating. Carolyn M. Lowery, age 84 of Malaga, OH passed away Sunday at the home of a granddaughter in Canton. Her loves were first and foremost her God and her family but was also fulfilled by growing plants and flowers, feeding the birds, making afghans for everyone and wearing colorful hats to church. Carolyn was born April 9, 1919 in Woodsfield, OH to the late William & Mary (Alig) Schumacher and lived most of her life in Canton. She was a 1937 graduate of Woodsfield High School. As a single parent, Carolyn supported her children by taking in borders for 7 years before working outside of the home. She worked part time for St. Joseph Credit Union in Canton for 14 years while working near full time at Fisher Foods on Harrison Ave. in Canton for 25 years. In 1989 she moved to Massillon where she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Christian-Mother & Alter-Rosary Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son Richard Ray Lowery who passed away in 1997, a sister Elizabeth Bender and brothers, Walter, Herman, & Fr. Henry Schumacher. She is survived by daughter, Joyce June Cerreta of Perry Hts.; sons and daughter-in-law, Lowell Lee Lowery of Unlaska, Alaska, William Ward & Anne Lowery of Fairlawn; sisters & brother-in-law, Rosemary Schumacher of Woodsfield, OH and Magdalen & Mitchell Edwards of Bisbee, AZ; brothers & sister-in-law, Martin & Dorothy Schumacher of Barnesville, OH and Roman Schumacher of Malaga, OH; 12 grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. The family is forever grateful for the unselfish love and care Carolyn received during her later years and illness by her special angel s , brother Roman Schumacher, nephew Tony Schumacher and wife Cindy and children, and her granddaughter, Deanna Harris and her sons. True to her wishes, there are no calling hours and a Memorial Mass will be Saturday, January 17, 2004 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Massillon followed by a reception at the school. Her pastor Fr. Raymond Paul will officiate. Her final resting place will be St. Sylvester s Cemetery in Woodsfield, OH. The Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon is in charge of arrangements. Leo R. Hill, 67, of Main Street, Jerusalem, Ohio died Sunday at home. He was born June 21, 1936, in Grand Coulee, Wash., a son of the late Charles Lewis Hill and Mabel Secrest Hill. He was a retired mill wright form Conalco Corporation, Hannibal, Ohio, and a U.S. Army veteran.
Preceded in death by his former wife, Mary C. Hill, and his former mother-in-law Francis Steed Gray.

Walter retired from the Weirton Steel Company, where he worked as a system analyst in the General Office Management Services with 33 years of service; was a member of the 25-Year Club of Weirton Steel; the Weirton Steel Management Club; was a Protestant by faith; and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was born Nov. 25, 1923, in Newport to Clarence and Elizabeth Hanes Hartshorn. He graduated from Newport High School with the Class of 1942. He worked as a member of Pipefitters Local 83 at Wheeling, W.Va., and was a construction supervisor for Bayer (Mobay) Chemical Co. from which he retired in 1983. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in the South Pacific during World War II and was a lifelong member of Matamoras Church of Christ.
On Aug. 13, 1948, he married Betty J. Hutchison, who survives with two children, Douglas Hartshorn and his wife, Judie, of Newport and Theresa Gautschi and her husband, Dan, of New Matamoras; two grandsons, Danny Gautschi and his wife, Lynn, of Pittsburgh and Mark Hartshorn of Newport; three great-grandchildren, Ian, Mason and Regan Elizabeth of Pittsburgh; three brothers, Lloyd Hartshorn of Reno, James Hartshorn of Columbia, S.C., and Jack Hartshorn of Parkersburg; and one sister, Bernice Hitchens of Youngstown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Lucille Hartshorn, Mildred Stancliff and Hazel Flick; and six brothers, Harold, George, Russell, Donald, Floyd and Richard.
Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ingram Funeral Home in St. Marys, W.Va., with Todd Bradford officiating. Burial is in Newport Cemetery in Newport. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

William F. Archer, 77, Woodsfield, died April 20, 2004 at Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus. He was born in Woodsfield July 10, 1926, a son of the late Fredrick Archer and Hildred Armbruster Archer.

He was a retired TV repairman and a member of the St Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield. He is a grandson of M.F. Archer, owner of the Archer Mill that operated in Woodsfield for over 50 year5s.

Surviving are several nieces and cousins.

Friends were received April 22 at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield. Mass of Christian Burial was held April 23 at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield, with Rev. Father David Gaydosik officiating. Burial in the Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield. Vigil service was held April 22 at the funeral home.

He is survived by his father of Middleburg Heights, Ohio; two sisters, Pamela J. Samuel of Parma, Ohio, and Cynthia A. Adamovich of Texas; two nieces; and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Edith Eloise Young, 86, of Lewisville, died May 2, 2004 at Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born at Lewisville, Aug. 17, 1917, the daughter of the late William Young and Julia Viola Hodge Young.

She was retired from JC Penney in Indianapolis, Indiana, and a member of the Lewisville Church of Christ.

Surviving are a brother, Irvin Young, of Canton, several nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Audra Harrington, Leora Weber, Mabel Steele and Wilene Jackson.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Stephens; four brothers, Shelby, Dewey, Ira and Harry Edgell; and two sisters, Lettie Campbell and Fairy Bolter.

Norma Jean Johnson, 75, former Fort Morgan resident, died Monday at her home in Littleton.

Mrs. Johnson was born Dec. 29, 1928, in Fort Morgan to James and Laura Knox. She married Robert Johnson Jan. 19, 1947, in Fort Morgan. She was a member of the Ascension Lutheran Church in Littleton, a former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan and the Columbine Pilots Club.

She is survived by her husband, Robert of Littleton; two daughters, Carol Knox-Johnson of Denver and Kathy Bindu of Littleton; three sons, James of Denver, Alan of Tucson, Ariz., and David of Littleton; one brother James Knox of Burlington, and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by one son, Bobby; one brother, Raymond, and her parents.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Heer & Joliffe Mortuary in Fort Morgan.

A funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Fort Morgan.

Virgil Henthorn, 75, of Beallsville, Ohio, died Wednesday, March 24, 2004 in Barnesville Hospital. He was born Feb. 19, 1929 near Beallsville, a son of the late Everett and Pearl Ward Henthorn.

He was a member of the Captina Church of Christ and a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service.

In addition to his parents, Virgil was preceded in death by his wife, Nora "Bonnie" Henthorn.

Surviving are two daughters, Carol (Roger) Hornbaker of Delaware, Ohio and Sharon (Charles) Clark of Sparta, Ohio; four grandchildren, Nicole and Nathan Hornbaker and Amanda and Jacob Clark; a brother, Donald Henthorn of Rittman and a sister, Edna Mae (Ray) Truex of West Virginia.

Herbert W. Artz, 87, resident of rural Tiro, died Thursday in Crestwood Care Center following an extended illness. Born in rural Shelby, Richland County, he had been a Tiro resident the majority of his life. He was a self-employed farmer and was a truck driver with PPG Industries, retiring in 1980. Mr. Artz was a 1935 graduate of Tiro High School, had served on the Tiro school board for 12 years and the Crawford County school board for two years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Tiro. Herbert enjoyed his family, camping, woodworking and traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie I. (Melick) Artz; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Patricia and Lloyd Betts, Elsie A. Wechter, all of Tiro, Sandra and Don Neumann of Bucyrus and Linda and John Kaple, Jr. of Shelby; two sons and daughters-in-law, Leslie and Mary Artz of Willard and Larry and Bonnie Artz of Tiro; 21 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Frances Artz of Mansfield and Thelma Cole of Shelby.

He was also a member of Brownsville Church of Christ at Brownsville, Ohio.
He is survived by one daughter-in-law, Lucille Kinsey of New Matamoras; three grandchildren, Deborah Kay Miller and her husband, Robert, David Lee Kinsey and his wife, Jane, and Daniel E. Kinsey and his wife, Polly; and six great-grandchildren, Joshua and Valerie Miller, Christopher, Matthew, Katie and Sara Kinsey.

G. Niesz, age 95, of Massillon, Ohio, died Friday, April 2, 2004, at the Massillon Community Hospital. She was born November 12, 1908 in Woodsfield, Ohio, a daughter of the late John Anthony Paulus and Catherine Jane Latta Paulus. She was retired fom the Monroe County Probate Court. They moved to Massillon after retirement to be near her brother, John. In Massillon, they worked many years for Morton's of Massillon.

Preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Niesz in 2000; sisters, Ida Paulus Christman, Ethel Paulus Christman; brothers, Asher, Herbert, Francis, Chester, and John Lawrence Paulus; nephews, Francis and Emerson Paulus. Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews with special relationships to Ruth Ann Senour of Arizona, Elizabeth Dillen of Wooster, Ohio, Ann Louise Stormer of Philadelphia, andFranklin Keith, John Herbert, and James Richard Paulus of Massillon; hersisters-in-law, Anna Lucille Paulus of Massillon and Marguarite Littell of Columbus.

Friends received Wednesday, April 7th., from 1 p.m. until tine of service at 2 p.m. at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, Ohio with Rev. Lee Peters officiating. Esther L. Willis nee Bentley

Esther Louise Bentley Willis, 84, of Belmont, Ohio, died Saturday, April 3, 2004 at Crestwood Nursing and Rehab, St. Clairsville, Ohio. She was born Nov. 30, 1919 in Belmont, a daughter of the late John Homer Bentley and Carrie Graham Bentley.

Esther was a homemaker and a member of the Belmont United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry C. Willis, a son, Charles L. Willis; two sisters, Eva Mae Flood, and Jeannette Donner; a brother, John Wood Bentley.

Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Foreman of St. Clairsville, a son, Robert (Sheryl) Willis of Bellaire; a daughter- in-law, Nancy J. Willis of Shadyside; a sister, Elizabeth Campbell of Irvine, Calif.; and a brother, James (Gayle) Bentley of Midlothian, Va.; three grandsons, Kurt (Dianna) Willis of Bridgeport, Ohio; Charles (Kim) Willis of Wheeling, W. Va., and Brad Willis of Columbus, Ohio; a great granddaughter, Alexis Willis, several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Monday, 7 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at Kelly-Kemp-Braido Funeral Home, 322 North Main St., Bethesda, where services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Robert Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Hendrysburg, Ohio.

Ina Mae 'Bud' McCain nee Willison

RIVERVIEW, Mich. - Ina Mae "Bud" Willison McCain, 85, of Riverview, formerly of Canal Fulton and Monroe County, Ohio, died Sunday (April 4, 2004) at Oakwood Skilled Nursing Center in Trenton, Mich.

She was born Feb. 18, 1919, in Woodsfield to Forrest O. and Retta Cronin Willison. She attended Woodsfield area schools and graduated from Woodsfield High School. She was a member of the Akron Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She married Denver McCain on July 22, 1939. They moved to Akron, where they lived for many years. After her husband's death, she moved to Michigan.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and two sisters.

She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn McCord and her husband, Steve, of Carrollton, Ga.; two sons, Dan Lee McCain of Tarpon Springs, Fla., and Dale R. McCain and his wife, Rosemary, of Grosse Ile, Mich.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services are at noon Thursday at Watters Funeral Home in Woodsfield. Burial is in Friendship Cemetery in Lewisville. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Eastern Star services are at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

NEWPORT - Josie Grace Childress, daughter of Will and Katy Carpenter Childress of Newport, died Wednesday (March 31, 2004) at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident north of St. Marys, W.Va. She was born Aug. 2, 2002, in Marietta.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandparents, Steve and Sandra Carpenter of Caldwell; paternal grandparents, Tom and Mary Childress of Marietta; maternal great-grandparents, Dorothy Carpenter, and James and Marilyn Warner of Summerfield; paternal great-grandparents, William and Peggy Bishop of Atlanta, Ga.; paternal great-great-grandmother, Thelma Lanham of North Carolina; maternal aunts, Angela (Robert) Fogle of Cumberland, Ohio, Brieann (Eric) Reiter of Caldwell, and Heather (Mike) Lemke of Pedricktown, N.J.; paternal aunt and uncles, Mac Childress of Columbus, Lawrence Brown of Newport and Elizabeth Petrie of Belpre; and several great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Deborah Childress; and her great-grandfather, Noah Carpenter.

Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Newport Cemetery in Newport with the Rev. Loren Dace officiating. There will be no visitation. Ingram Funeral Home in St. Marys, W.Va., is in charge of arrangements.

Doris Smith, 79, Beallsville, died Thursday, April 1, 2004 in the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born Nov. 30, 1924, a daughter of the late James and Ethel Baker Phillips. She was assistant manger for Richmond Brothers, Steubenville and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Auxiliary, Steubenville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Tustin.

Doris is survived by her husband, Jim Smith; a nephew, Raymond Tustin and a good friend, Linda Porreca, Steubenville.

SARDIS - Donald Eugene Brown, 71, of Seventh Avenue died Monday (April 5, 2004) at Wetzel County Hospital in New Martinsville, W.Va. He was born Oct. 26, 1932, in Rinard Mills to Phillip and Leona Graham Brown. He was a retired employee of Ormet Aluminum Corp. and was a member of USWA Local 5724. He was a Protestant by faith and was a U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by five sons, Michael (Beth) Brown of Sardis, Kelly (Kristy) Brown of Manassas, Va., Dennis Brown of Newport, Jody (Stacy) Brown of Bealton, Va., and Rodney (Erin) Brown of Delaware, Ohio; one brother, Phillip Brown of Lowell; one sister, Dora Long of Newport; and eight grandchildren, Natasha, Nicholas, Stephen, Carson, Kyle, Madison, Kirsten and Colby Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John Brown; and four sisters, Mary Hackathorne, Hope Cline, Bronda Brown and Betty Dye.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grisell Funeral Home, 37234 Mound St., Sardis, with Evangelist Marvin Henderson officiating. Burial is in Sardis Cemetery in Sardis. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Shirley J. Kuhn, 67, of State Route 145, Lewisville, Ohio, died Monday, April 5, 2004 at the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Woodsfield, Ohio, following a short battle with Autoimmune (PBC) Liver Disease. She was born near Sutton, West Virginia on March 26, 1937, a daughter of the late Ralph M. and Lois I. Peters Hosery. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church near Lewisville, Ohio, where she was also a member of the Catholic Women's Club and a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lewisville Fire Department, Lewisville, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Tom Hosey.

Surviving are her husband, Kenneth Eugene Kuhn whom she married on Feb. 16, 1957; one daughter, Kristina K. Lafferre and her husband, Kevin of Lewisville, Ohio; two sons: Mark A. Kuhn of Hannibal, Ohio and Brian E. Kuhn and his wife, Kay, of Lewisville, Ohio; three sisters, Gay Egger of Riverside, California, Ruth Bates of Las Vegas, Nevada and Rebecca Bautista of Corona, California; five brothers: Harold Hosey, Isaac Hosey and Luther Hosey, all of Webster Springs, West Virginia, Ralph Hosey of Diamond, Ohio and Albert "Puz" Hosey of Medina, Ohio; five grandchildren: Kristy, Dustin and Morgan Kuhn, Trent and Lynsey Lafferre; several brother and sister-in-laws and nieces and nephews.

Dale E. Christman, (April 3, 1948-April 8, 2004). Aged 56, died Thursday at his home following a long illness. Dale was born in Bucyrus and lived in the area all of his life. He was the son of the late Lawrence H. and Margaret L. Campbell Christman. Dale was employed for 17 years with Producers Livestock and most recently employed with The House Doctor. He farmed for 30 years. Dale was a member of Galion Alliance Church, served as an elder, deacon and Sunday school teacher, was former president of Tri County Child Evangelism Fellowship and was past president of Church Association of Bible Instruction in the Colonel Crawford and Buckeye Central school systems.

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his father-in-law Bob Nigh and is survived by his wife, Cindy (Nigh) Christman; sons and daughters-in-law Rob and Sharon Christman of Hilliard and Jamie and Monica Christman of Galion; daughter and son-in-law Heidi and Eric Boothe of Galloway; grandchildren Tyler, Caleb, Nicholas and Allison; sisters and brother-in-law Jeanette Harris, Carol and Tom Creger; sister-in-law Becky (Dave) Young; and several nieces and nephews.

He was born Dec. 18, 1916 in Clarington, Ohio, the son of the late Luther and Edna Stieb Fankhauser. He was a retired employee from Ormet Corporation, a self-employed farmer and a Protestant by faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Smith Fankhauser; a brother, Alfred Fankhauser and a grandson, Shawn Folden.

Clyde Decker, 85, of Beallsville, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004 in the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born Oct. 2, 1918 in Monroe County, a son of the late Ora and Myrta Taylor Decker.

He was a member of the Captina Church of Christ and a retired employee of Monroe County where he served as the first driver of the Senior Citizen's van.

In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by his son, Carlos; his grandson, Kevin Warren, and his son-in-law, Roger Warren.

He was a retired laborer for the Laborers Union local 639, Marietta, Ohio and was a Protestant by faith. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Woodsfield, Ohio. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Betty Haslam Snyder, whom he married on March 8, 1980; one son, Todd Matthew Snyder and his wife Julie, of Melbourne, Florida; one sister, Sandra Niswonger of Caldwell, Ohio; three brothers: Charles Edward Snyder and his wife, Debbie, of Cambridge, Ohio, Tom Snyder and his wife, Bev, of Cambridge, Ohio and Rick Snyder and his wife, Vickie, of Caldwell, Ohio; two grandchildren: Brandon Snyder and Lina Snyder; several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.

WOODSFIELD---Beula L. Ackerman, 82, of Lewisville, died Friday (Sept. 10, 2004) at Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta.

She was born July 12, 1922 near Calais, a daughter of the late Joseph and Josie Carpenter Delong.


She attended the former Calais Elementary and High School. She was a full-time homemaker and housewife and a member of the Calais Church, where she attended her entire life. She enjoyed embroidering gifts, reading, gardening and canning.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen, Dorothy and Betty; three brothers, Richard, Cletis and Donnie; and a granddaughter, Krista Ackerman.

She leaves her husband of 61 years, Edward H. Ackerman, whom she married Nov. 4, 1942; four sons, Jimmy (Caroline) Ackerman of Danville, Junior (Sheila) Ackerman of Lewisville, Phillip (Sally) Ackerman of Beallsville and Ben (Karen) Ackerman of Lewisville; two daughters, Mrs. Eric (Patricia) Dowler of Parkersburg, WV. and Mrs. Roger (Phyllis) Claus of Lewisville; two brothers, Guy (Mona) Delong of Salesville and Vance (Rose) Delong of Byesville; seven grandchildren, Travis, Jason, Carey, Pam, Russell, Casey and Brittany; two step-grandchildren, Stacey and Missy; three great-grandchildren and 7 step-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Jane Hannahs nee Morris

Dorothy Jane Hannahs, 56, of Summerfield, Ohio, died Sunday Dec. 19 2004 at Barnesville Hospital. She was born July 16, 1948 in Barnesville a daughter of the late Elmer and Vesta Morris.

Dorothy was a homemaker and a member of the Calais Independent Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers Jessie and Dale Morris.

Surviving are her husband Edsel Hannahs, a daughter Tina (Kevin) Doty of Barnesville, two sons Edsel Jr. Hannahs and Fred (Shannon) Hannahs, all of Summerfield, three grandchildren Jason Doty and Austin Doty of Barnesville, David Doty of Summerfield, a sister Clara Crawford of Dover, Ohio and a brother Roger Morris of Piedmont, Ohio.

Frances I. Ogg, 87, of Zanesville, died at 8:36 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Genesis Good Samaratin Hospital emergency room. She was born Oct 21, 1916, in Monroe County, near Summerfield.  The family moved to New Concord in 1923, where she attended New Concord Grade School.  After the death of her father in 1929, the family moved to Zanesville.  She graduated from Zanesville (Lash) High School in 1935 and attended Muskingum College for two years.  She worked for Standard Oil Co. of Ohio in Zanesville for 36 years.  Frances was an active member of First United Presbyterian Church on Ridge Road and also Trinity United Presbyterian Churcha after the merger of the three churches.  She served as treasurer for 25 years and was an elder and a deacon and served on various committees.  She was also a member of Professional Secretaries Association.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews and their families and numerous friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron and Cynthia Belle Lashley Ogg; two brothers, Robert Ogg and George Ogg; and six sisters, Ottalee Holley, Lenora Friday, Mamie Friday, Vida Ullman, Maggie Slack and Ellen Ogg; five nieces; and a nephew.

Laura Elizabeth Billman, 19 of Plainfield Rd., St. Clairsville died Monday, July 12, 2004 at Belmont Community Hospital, Bellaire. She was born at Wheeling on August 19, 1984 a daughter of Gary and Janet Campbell Billman. Laura was a 2002 graduate of Union Local High School, attended Belmont Technical College and was an employee of the BP Service Station at exit 208, Morristown.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, George Billman; paternal great grandmother, Jennie Hudson and maternal great grandfather, W. Clark Morgan.

She is survived by her parents, Gary and Janet Billman of Belmont; her fianc , Joe Schmitt of Bethesda; maternal grandparents, Harold and Edna Campbell of Belmont and paternal grandmother, Betty Billman of Norton, OH; maternal great grandmother, Helen Morgan of St. Clairsville and uncles, Jim Campbell of Amanda, OH and David Billman of Akron.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville. Private services will be held on Friday at the convenience of the family. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.

NEW MATAMORAS - Daiton I. Scarbro, 53, of 1208 State Route 7, New Matamoras (formerly of Rinard Mills) died at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 30, 2004) at his home. He was born at Marietta on March 2, 1951, a son of Edith Parsons Scarbro, who survives of Woodsfield, and the late Leonard Scarbro. He and his wife had owned and operated the Aldeco Motel in New Matamoras for the past 14 years. He was a former employee of the former Conalco Corporation in Hannibal, Ohio. He was also a self-employed heavy equipment operator and a private pilot and was a member of the Mid-Ohio Valley Aviation Association. He was a member of the Muskingum Valley Baptist Church near Wingett Run; a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was a Disabled American Veteran; a member of the Matamoras Lodge 374, F.&A.M., New Matamoras; and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5303, Woodsfield. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed woodworking.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Lester Scarbro; two sisters, Loretta Scarbro and Jean Carpenter; his father-in-law, Gene Harmon; and sister-in-law, Brenda Scarbro.

Rocko,John Richard, 75, of Powhatan Point, Ohio, died Saturday, April 24, 2004 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 7, 1928 at Bentleyville, Pa., a son of the late John and Wanda Molesky Rocko. John retired from Conalco in 1991 after 33 years. During his retirement, John enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and working on many projects around the house. He will be missed by all his family and friends. He was a member of the St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Powhatan
Point, Ohio. He served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by one sister, Frances Stanish and brothers-in-law, Joe Stanish and Paul Haney.

John Nicholas Popovich, 77, of Shadyside, died Sunday, May 2, 2004 in Wheeling Hospital. He was born Dec. 18, 1926 in Shadyside, a son of the late John Michael and Sophia Briniak Popovich.  John was retired from Conalco Corp., was a member of the Bridgeport Eagles, American Legion Post 521, and was a Navy veteran. 

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ragni.

Surviving are his wife, Norma Neidermyer Popovich; three children, John Michael Popovich of Tucson, Ariz., Paula Jo Farrell and her husband, Frank, of Hurricane, W. Clarence Carroll, 85, passed away on Dec. 30, 2003.

Clarence was born on April 26, 1918, in Todd County, Ky. He retired from B.F. Goodrich Co. and was a life time member of the Akron Baptist Temple.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Caroline; parents, Ola and Era Carroll. He is survived by daughter, Judy (Bob) Smith; son, David (Beth); grandchildren, Becky (Joe) Nicholas, Matt Smith, Karen and Jeff Carroll; great-grandchildren, Abby and Andrew Nicholas. Clarence has a tremendous zest for life and love for his family and friends. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, his dogs and many home projects. His greatest joys were meandering rides anywhere, with his beloved Caroline, and get-togethers with family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him and we thank Clarence for all the great memories.

The funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, with Rev. Dane Allphine officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park.      MASSILLON- Mary P. (Piatt) Henthorn, 90 of Massillon, formerly of Noble County, died Thursday (March 4, 2004) at her home. She was born May 5, 1913, near Graysville to Howard and Hulda Heddleston Piatt. She was a homemaker and a member of the Canal Fulton Nazarene Church.
     She is survived by one daughter, Betty Kindall and her husband, Lemuel, of Massillon; four grandchildren, Gloria Browning and her husband, David; Joyce Harris and her husband, Jim; Rhonda Carley and her husband, Dana; and David Kindall and his wife, Jill; and 11 great-grandchildren.

     She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Lawrence E. Henthorn, on December 30, 1994; three brothers and three sisters.
     Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 110 South Paul Street, Woodsfield, with Pastors Steve Cummings and Don Gainer officiating. Burial is in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery near Graysville.

George Bernard Miles, Sr.

George Bernard Miles Sr., 84 of Owensboro, died at 9:20 pm, Tuesday, Nov 23, 2004 at Owensboro Medical Health System.  He was born June 4, 1920 in Knottsville to William Ivo Miles and Katie Dell Mattingly Miles and retired as a self-employed restuarant owner and caterer who owned George's Diner.  He retired as a salesman after 17 years at Sears, Roebuck & Co. and was an Army veteran of World War II.  He was member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and past president of TPA.  He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and raising pure breed animals.  He had a love of cooking and reading. 

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Joe, Willlie Ray, Ernest and Virgil Miles; two sister, Katie Lou Bivins and Mytrle Geary; and a granson, Kevin Michael Miles.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Anna Louise Miles, a son, George Jr;; six daughters, Brenda Thompson, Martha Jennings, Georgia  D. MIles, Suzanne Gomez, Katie Royalty,  and Christie Bender; 22 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at noon Saturday at St. Pius X Catholic Church.  Visitation is from 2 to 8 pm today and from 9 to 11:30 am Saturday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home.  Prayers will be said at 7 pm today at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery with full military honors conducted by VFW Post No 696.  The Rev. Richard Meredith will officiate.  Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Alzheimer's Association.

Ferne L. Henthorn, 64, of Warren Chapel Road, Fleming, died at 3:30 a.m. Thursday (August 26, 2004) at her home. She was born Nov. 24, 1939, at Stanleyville, a daughter of the late Dale and Bernice Grub Wagner. The family moved to the Pinehurst area and she attended Pinehurst grade school and was a graduate of Marietta High School with the class of 1957. She was a member of the National Honor Society and the Girls Athletic Association. After her graduation, she had been employed at the Harry Robinson Accounting Firm and was later employed at the B.F. Goodrich. She had also worked in the Sears-Roebuck Catalog department and since 1987, had been employed as a switchboard operator at Marietta Memorial Hospital. The family had owned and operated a dairy farm at Fleming from 1963 to 1986.

She was elected the first fair queen at Washington County Fair in 1951. She had been a past 4-H adviser and was adviser for the 4-H Junior Leadership Program. She had been a member of the Ohio Child Conservation League; the Pinehurst Homemakers; the Farm Bureau Board; and was on the Improvement Committee of the Washington County Fair Board for several years. She was an active member of the Walnut Street Church of Christ in Belpre and the Women's Fellowship of the church. She was a member of the board of directors of Pioneer Ladies Civita Club in Marietta and was on the Farm Bureau Women's Committee. She had many hobbies, including sewing for her grandchildren, cooking, visiting the sick and elderly and working in her garden. She also enjoyed helping her family and friends with painting and paper hanging.

On April 26, 1958, she was married to Richard John Henthorn who survives with her stepmother-in-law, Garnet Henthorn; three sons, Richard John "Rick" Henthorn Jr. and his wife, Angie, of Marietta; Randall Jay "Randy" Henthorn and his wife, Karen, of Fleming; and Rodney Henthorn and his wife, Mary Kate, of James Island, S.C.; one daughter, Debra Parmiter of Marietta; 10 grandchildren; Hayley Henthorn, Braden Henthorn, Zayne Parmiter, Tayler and Eli Parmiter, all of Marietta; Austin Henthorn, Zachariah "Zack" Henthorn and Andrew Henthorn, all of Fleming, and Marissa Henthorn and Ethan Henthorn, both of James Island, S.C.

She is also survived by two sisters, Faye Patrick and her husband, Mike, of St. Cloud, Fla., and Karen Cooksey and her husband, William, of Frazer, Mich.; one brother, Alan Wagner and his wife, Kristine, of Little Elm, Texas; several nephews, nieces and cousins; and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Don Seevers officiating. Interment will be in Tunnel Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 p.m. Saturday until the hour of the services. The family will be present to meet friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

She was born October 15, 1912 in Jericho, Monroe Co., OH, daughter of the late, August and Della Weddle Cline. She was a member of the Carrollton Bible Chapel. She and her late husband, Lewis owned and operated Twin Valley Campground from 1965 until retiring in 1980. She was a member of the Petersburg Grange, Carrollton Senior Center and the Carroll Co. Historical Society. Twila actively worked during the Algonquin Mill Festival and was well known for the Quilts she assembled and quilted, many of which won ribbons and prizes at local and state levels. Twila is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Mary Dunlap of Carrollton, Eugene and Beverly Dunlap of Atwood Lake Dellroy, Lynn and Ellen Dunlap of Carrollton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mona Maple of Carrollton, Annalea and Larry Becknell of Malvern, Della and Archie Patrick of Willoughby Hills, OH; sisters, Edra Ring of Louisville; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Twila was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, William Lewis Dunlap on May 25, 1991; three brothers, Lem, Burns and Rue Cline; and sister, Faye Johns; her son-in-law, Robert Maple are also deceased. She had lived the greater portion of her life in the Canton area and was a member of the Canton Baptist Temple. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A.   She is survived by four sisters, Eleanor Stegner of Woodsfield, Kathryn Moore of Alledonia, Ohio, Anna Hinderlong of Woodsfield and Helen Bullock of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; one brother, Fred Garrett of Wooster, Ohio; two stepsons, David Landefeld and Dwayne Landefeld, both of Miltonsburg, Ohio; and one stepdaughter, Patty Antonik of Bellaire, Ohio.
  She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Landefeld; her parents; one brother, Wayne Garrett; and one stepson, Darrell Landefeld.

   She is survived by one son, Adriane Law and his wife, Shelby, of Lewisville; one daughter, Sherry Busino and her husband, William, of New Jersey; four sisters, Marion Griffith of Toronto, Audry Davis of Carrolton, Opal Thomas of East Liverpool and Louise Oxier of Toronto; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
   She was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Davis, Goldie Davis and June Heath; two brothers, Eddie and Ted Davis; and one granddaughter, Tammy.

    ROANOKE, VIRGINIA-- Timothy L. "Tim" Matz, 49, of Roanoke, Virginia , and formerly of London and Orville, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, May 14, 2004.
    He was born December 11, 1954, in Orville, the son of Wilfred and Dortha Matz.
    He was an employee of Advance Auto Parts in Corporate Logistics and was a former employee of Volvo in Greensboro, N.C. He was a former Cub Master of Pack 102 in London. He attended the Cloverdale Church of the Brethern. He was an avid golfer and Nascar fan.
    Surviving are his wife, Jacqueline Brenner Matz, whom he married July 20, 1985; sons Dylan A. and Logan A.; parents, Wilfred and Dorotha Matz of Dalton; a brother, Don (Fran) Matz of Dalton; sisters, Linda (Donis) Kirk of Orville and Carol (Blaine) Immel of Wooster; aunts,uncles,nieces amd nephews and his loving dog, Max.
    He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Elia Kahrig, paternal grandparents, Harry and Clara Matz and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and June Brenner.
   The family will receive friends Monday, May 17 from 7--9 p.m. at Oakey's East Chapel, 5188 Cloverdale Road, Roanoke, Virginia 24019.

William C. Howell

William C. Howell, 67, of Zephyrhills, Florida, died Thursday, April 15, 2004 in the East Pasco Hospice Care Center in Dade City. He was born in Michigan, on July 31, 1936, the son of the late Clifford and Velma Piatt Howell. He resided in Bucyrus and Mount Gilead prior to moving to Florida 35 years ago. He had worked for Huber Warco in Bucyrus and Marion and as a carpenter while in Florida. William enjoyed camping, fishing and playing dominos and checkers. He is survived by his wife Martha J. Lewis Howell, whom he married March 2, 1984; three sons Rick Howell, Robert (Charlotte) Howell all of Mount Gilead, Ohio, and Steve (Robin) Howell of Dade City, Florida; a daughter Trudy (Steve) Damron of Cardington, Ohio; two step-sons Tommy Champion of England, and Tracy (Jackie) Champion of Zephyrhills, Florida; 16 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a brother Ray (Drew) Howell of Zephyrhills, Florida; and three sisters Pauline Cline and Helen (Paul) Kenny all of Woodsville, Ohio and Sue (Tom) Smith of Bucyrus, Ohio. He was also preceded in death by a son Bill Howell, a daughter-in-law Charmaine Howell, two sisters Doris Griffith and Thelma J. Hass, a step-brother Bill Clark, a step-sister Belva Rucker, and his step-father George Clark. Dr. Dennis Schultz will conduct a memorial service on Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Gilead. She was a retired Nurses Aide at Cambridge State Hospital and worked for Universal Pottery and Oxford Tile Companies, both of Cambridge. She was a member of Salt Fork Baptist Church.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Showalter in 1973, 3 daughters; Sandra Showalter, Janet Larrick and Shirley Hayes. Also by 4 brothers: Charles, Bernard, Thomas and Everett Hayes.

Retha P. Skinner nee Kinkade

Retha P. Kinkade Skinner, 81, of Priest River, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Valley Vista Care Center in Sandpoint, Idaho, during the early hours of Oct. 4, 2004.

She was born the third daughter of Alonzo Pearl Kinkade and Blanche Hannah Moor Kinkade on Dec. 20, 1922, in Black Diamond, Washington. She had three children, Rose Marie, Susan, and Michael, prior to marrying Lynn Q. Skinner. They had six children: Lynda, Jeannie, Robert, Ramona, Ella, and Ernie. She lived most of her life in Oldtown, Idaho.

She endured a great deal of hardship yet did not become angry or bitter. Instead, she worked hard caring for her children and husband in his last years of life. She was a great cook and loved to garden and shop whenever she got the chance. Retha was a member of Newport Church of the Nazarene.

In 1969, when her sister Dorotha was gravely in need of a kidney transplant, she risked her own life by donating one of her own kidneys. Poor health in her later years forced Retha to move to Valley Vista Care Center in Sandpoint, Idaho, where she lived until her death.

Survivors include one son, Mike (Laura) Collins of Priest River, Idaho; four daughters, Susan, Lynda Skinner Turner of One, WV; Jeannie (Doug) Skinner Hutchins of Diamond Lake, WA, Ella Skinner (Choice Garrett) of Mountlake Terrace, Washington;12 grandchildren; a nephew and several nieces.

Retha was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn; her parents; a brother, Carl; two sisters, Dorotha and June; two sons, Robert and Ernie; two daughters, Ramona and Rose. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

Funeral services were held on Oct. 7 at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash. She was laid to rest in the Newport Cemetery in Newport, Washington.

Carl E. Stacy Sr. age 82 of Massillon, Ohio passed away Friday morning in Massillon Community Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Brownsville, Ohio on February 27, 1922 he was the son of the late John and Vera Stacy. He was a retired employee of the Ford Motor Co. in the tool and die department, retiring in 1978 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Eleventh Street Church of God and a member of the Buckeye Country Music and the Canton Chapter of Western Music. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Eileen Stacy and also by two brothers, Watson and George Stacy. Survivors include his wife, June (Humphrey) Stacy of the home. Four children and their spouses: Phyllis and Billy Dye of north Canton, Sheila Mikes and Peter Miller of Navarre, Carl Stacy Jr. of Navarre and Tangee and Larry Altimore of Canton. Five stepsons and spouses: David Humphrey of Massillon, Michael and Marti Humphrey of Canton, Charles Humphrey of Canton, Danny and Victoria Humphrey of South Carolina and Bruff and Yvette Humphery of Navarre. There are 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grand children

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Shafer officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours at the funeral home on Monday evening 6-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund at the Eleventh Street Church of God.

Richard B. Dick Boerrigter, 84, Wymore, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 14, 2004, at the Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center. He was born Oct. 4, 1920, at Hickman, spent most of his childhood in the Bennet area, and was a 1940 graduate of Bennet High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, from Dec. 27, 1941, to Dec. 1, 1945, in the European Theatre, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant and was crew chief on the B-17, P-51 and P-38. He married Letha Tally on Feb. 15, 1948, at Beatrice. He and his brother-in-law, Merle Hale, owned and operated Dick and Hale s Service Station in Wymore from November 1946 until their retirement in October 1985. He again served in the U. S. Army Air Force during the Korean War from Aug. 18, 1950, to Aug. 17, 1951. He was an active member of the Wymore United Methodist Church, where he served on the administrative board, various committees and sang in the choir. He was a member of American Legion Anderson Post 25, the Wymore Country Club, Kiwanis, the Chamber of Commerce, served on the Wymore Housing Authority Board and the Wymore Good Samaritan Center Advisory Board, and was a rural mail carrier for 43 years. His hobbies included playing golf, woodworking, dancing, playing cards, traveling, boating and water skiing.

Survivors: wife, Letha; daughter, Vicki Francis and husband Ron of Topeka, Kan.; son, Steve Boerrigter and wife Gale of Lawrenceville, Ga.; grandsons, Sean Boerrigter of Ft. Bragg, N.C., Jeremy Boerrigter of Lawrenceville, Ga.; stepgrandchildren, Leslie McGowan and husband Bill of Overland Park, Kan., Jim Francis and wife Judy of Stilwell, Kan.; five stepgreat-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Hale of Yukon, Okla., and Darlene Griffin of Lincoln; brother, Dale Boerrigter and wife June of Escondido, Calif.; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Gertrude (Wieskamp) Boerrigter.

Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, Wymore United Methodist Church, 10th and F streets, the Rev. Richard Sykes officiating. Burial: Wymore Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by American Legion Anderson Post 25. The body will lie in state at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home, 505 N. Ninth St., Wymore, after 6 p.m. Wednesday until 9 p.m. Thursday, and at the church one hour preceding the service. CALDWELL - Evelyn C. Christman, 75, of Caldwell died Monday evening (Feb. 23, 2004) at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell. She was born Dec. 8, 1928, in Noble County to Harley and Matilda Arnold Blake. She had owned and operated Evelyn's Beauty Shop in Caldwell for many years and was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church.

She is survived by one son, Thomas A. Davis of Caldwell; one daughter, Sandi K. (Robert) Stapleton of Huffman, Texas; one stepson, Gerald Christman of Woodsfield; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter L. Christman, on March 6, 1992; and her parents.

Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Stephen Catholic Church with Father Dale Tornes officiating. Burial is in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Imogene V. Paulus, 89, of Hennis Care Centre of Bolivar, a resident of Bolivar since 1944 and formerly of Lewisville, O., in Monroe County, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, in Hennis Care Centre following a long illness.

She was born July 21, 1915, in Monroe County, O., a daughter of the late Charles and Clara (Miller) Young. She graduated from Lewisville High School in Lewisville, O. She had worked for the former Graef Ford Sales and Bill Good Ford Sales at Bolivar where she worked in the Title Department. She was a Bolivar area seamstress and a homemaker all her life. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Bolivar and in her younger years, she was an active member of the church. She was a past member of the Daughters of America and a past member of 4-H, where she served for 25 plus years as a seamstress and homemaker instructor.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Albert O. Paulus, who died on March 19, 1992, and they were married for 55 years; an infant daughter; and a son-in-law, Jim Webber.

Surviving are a daughter, Doris Webber of Bolivar, O.; a son, Dennis (Gloria) Paulus of Loxley, Ala.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elva Mae (Barney) Smith of Freemont, Calif.

Services will be held in Lebold Funeral Home at Bolivar, O., on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Blanche Tyree officiating. Burial will be in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover, O.
