Helen Marie McMahon, nee Bachman

  Helen M. McMahon, 87, of 51436 State Route 145, Jerusalem, OH (formerly of Woodsfield) died at 8:25 p.m. October 25, 1991 in the Barnesville Hospital, Barnesville.

  She was born near Antioch on Feb. 28, 1904 a daughter of the late Joseph Albert [correct is Joseph Alexander] and Emma Nelia Barkes Bachman.

  She was a graduate of Muskingum College, New Concord and was a retired school teacher having taught for 35 years in the Switzerland of Ohio School District. She was also a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ.

  She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Roger (Patricia) Hendershot of Jerusalem; two sons, William Richard McMahon of Ocean Springs Mississippi and Ralph McMahon of Dallas, TX; one brother, Ralph Bachman of Kenner, LA; two granddaughters and three grandsons.

  She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry McMahon on August 6, 1974 and one brother Harold Bachman.

  Friends were received at the Watters Funeral Home Woodsfield from 2-9 p.m. Oct. 29 and funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Oct. 30 with Minister John Hamilton officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.

  Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Society in care of Upper Arlington Senior Center, 1945 Ridgeview Road, Upper Arlington, OH 43221

 

Ollie M. McConnell, nee Gildow

    Ollie M. McConnell, 92, Summit Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell, Ohio, formerly of Stafford, Ohio, died at 10:15 a.m., February 20, 1991, at Summit Acres Nursing Home following an extended illness.
    She was born October 4, 1898, in Elk Township, Noble County, near Carlisle, a daughter of the late Zenas H. and Matilda Feldner Gildow.
    She was a member of the Crum Ridge Church of Christ.
    Surviving are two sons, Charles R. McConnell, Stafford, and Lewis G. McConnell, Lewisville; two brothers, Walter Gildow, Caldwell, and Edward Gildow, Belle Valley, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Walter (Wilma) Binegar, Caldwell, and Iva Knight, Zanesville, Ohio; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, William Floyd McConnell, October 1974; one son, John C. McConnell, June 1972; one brother, Thomas Gildow, and four sisters, Grace Gildow, Ella Cale, Lou Miller and Minnie Murray.
    Friends were received at the Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, where funeral services were held at 1 p.m. February 23 with Evangelist Bernard Mason officiating. Burial followed in Stafford Cemetery, Stafford

Paul L. Egger

    Paul L. Egger, 79, 224 South Main Street, Woodsfield, died July 20, 1991, upon arrival at Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville.
    He was born October 1, 1911, near Miltonsburg, Ohio, a son of the late Albert and Ola Steed Egger.
    He was owner and operator of Egger s Barber Shop in Woodsfield and was a barber for 45 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ and a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.
    Surviving are his wife, Hazel Hoover Egger whom he married March 1, 1941; one son, Frank Egger, Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Wilda Turner of Moundsville and several nieces and nephews.
    Friends were received at the Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, where services were held July 23 with Ministers John Hamilton and Virgil Long officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield. 

Oleta A. Fisher

    Oleta A. Fisher, 88, 215 South Paul Street, Woodsfield, died July 20, 1991, near Atwater, Ohio.
    She was born April 28, 1903, at Alledonia, a daughter of the late Joseph and Amanda Atkinson Reed.
    She had resided with her daughter in Rootstown for the past two years due to illness. She was a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ, Woodsfield American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Woodsfield, and had been active with the Senior Citizens Group, Woodsfield.
    Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Wilma) Potter, Rootstown; one sister Gladys Wickham, Summerfield; two grandsons, Mark Potter, Sterling Heights, Michigan, and Terry Potter of Action, Massachusetts and five great-grandchildren.
     She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Fisher on February 10, 1971; four brothers Moody, Oscar, Oliver and Sidney Reed and one sister, Mr. Ed Lucas.
    Friends were received at the Watters Funeral Home Woodsfield, where services were held July 23 with Minister Harry Summers officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield. American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary services were held at the funeral home.

Eunice Christman, nee Hannahs

    Eunice Hannahs Christman, 76, of 3438 Miltonsburg-Calais Road, Woodsfield, died early on the morning of October 26, 1991, at the Barnesville Hospital, Barnesville, Ohio.
    She was born June 15, 1915, in Monroe County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Glen and Patience Carpenter Hannahs. She was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Lewisville, Ohio.
    She is survived by her husband, Eldon Christman, Woodsfield; one son, Ron Christman, Deltona, Florida; one daughter, Glenda Reich, Miltonsburg, Ohio; one brother, Lloyd Hannahs, Quaker City, Ohio; four grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Wayne Hannahs.

    There was no visitation. Private services were held October 28, at the Trinity United Church of Christ, Lewisville with the Reverend Ed. Thurmond and Reverend Gary Wilson officiating. Burial was in the Middle Church cemetery with Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield in charge of arrangements.
    Family requests memorial contributions be made to The American Cancer Society, Monroe County Unit, 106 North Main Street, Woodsfield, OH 43793, or Trinity United Church of Christ, Lewisville-Northern Road, Lewisville, OH 43754. 

Freda E. Christy

    Freda E. Christy, 92, of 107 East Church Street, Woodsfield, Ohio died at 10:45 p.m. October 6, 1991, in the Barnesville Hospital, Barnesville, Ohio.
    She was born near Graysville, Ohio on January 19, 1899, a daughter of the late Forrest and Nettie Whitacre Mobberly.
    She was a member of the Church of Christ and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and had assisted her husband in may activities throughout the years.
    She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Fred (Ethel) Dougherty of Woodsfield, Mrs. Emerson (Marjorie) Scott of Willcox, Arizona, Mrs. Glenn (Donna) Baker of New Albany, and Mrs. Cyril (Shirley) Weagle of Chico, California; two sons, Robert R. Christy of Dayton and Tommy Lee Christy of Lewisville; one sister Mrs. Mabel Earley of Wheeling, West Virginia; 12
grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas A. Christy on June 13, 1979.
    Friends were received at the Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield from 3-9 p.m. October 9 where funeral services were held at 1 p.m. October 10 with Ministers Harry Summers and John Hamilton officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Route 1, Graysville. 

Marie C. Green, nee Neuhardt

    Marie C. Green, 72, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, formerly of Lewisville, Ohio died October 27, 1991, at her home.
    She was born May 22, 1919, at Lewisville, a daughter of the late Arthur and Bertha Christman Neuhardt. She was retired from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
    She is survived by two sisters, Nadine Knowlton of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Delys Bodenhausen, Springfield, Missouri; two brothers, Richard Neuhardt, Lewisville and Vernon Neuhardt, Wooster, Ohio.
    She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Green in 1991.
    Friends were received at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield on October 30 from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. with Minister Russ Merrin Officiating. Burial was in the Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield. 

Bernard H. Schumacher

    Bernard H. Schumacher, former Monroe County Commissioner, died at home November 7, 1991, at the age of 78. He was a resident of 407 Holiday Avenue, Woodsfield.
    In addition to serving as commissioner, he served as Center Township trustee and was a member of the GMN Tri-County Board.
    Schumacher served the County as commissioner from 1975 to 83 and from 1985 to 89. He opted not to run for the 1990-94 term.
    During his years in office, Schumacher was involved with many improvement projects for the County. Included in the list are the Achievement Center and MACO buildings, the Department of Human Services building, Monroe County Clinic, Americare Woodsfield, currently known as the Woodsfield nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Monroe County Care Center improvements.
    Upon his retirement from public office, Schumacher had said he hoped the future of Monroe County included an elevator in the three-story courthouse. He also hoped for County water and sewer systems.
    We ve got to have these utilities in order to draw industry into the County, Schumacher had said on his final day as County commissioner.
    Schumacher was a self-employed water hauler serving the local four-County area. He was a retired farmer and schoolbus driver for the Switzerland of Ohio School District.
    He was a member of the Holy Name society, the Knights of Columbus, and the Saint Sylvester Catholic Church at Woodsfield.
    He was born January 20, 1913, near Woodsfield.
    He is survived by his wife, Florence C. Kress Schumacher, whom he married December 27, 1945, and five daughters, Adeline Jones, Silver Springs, Maryland; Vera Roth and Bernice Baker of Woodsfield; Alice Goddard, Beallsville, Ohio; and Anna Hupp, Caldwell, Ohio.

 

George C. Drake

George C. Drake, 80. Barnesville-Bethesda Rd, Bethesda, formerly of Barnesville, died Oct. 21,1991 In Barnesville Hospital. He was born Feb. 8, 1911 in Monroe Co., a son of the late William Garfield and Jenny Bird Morris Drake. He was a retired carpenter and retired post office employee. He was a member of Barnesville's Main Street United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by two sisters Margaret Huntsman and Mary Hittle; and two brothers, Thurman and Raymond Drake.

Surviving are his wife, Beatrice Carpenter Drake; three brothers, Charles of Barnesville, William of Fairmont, WV. and Carl of Bradenton, FL; six sisters, Lillian Huntsman of Columbus, Florence Little of West Lafayette, Edna Garvin of Leesburg, FL, Betty Eickelberry of Streetsboro, Kathryn Eickelberry of Ravenna, and Myrtle Hudson of Barnesville; several nieces and nephews.

Services are being held today, oct 23, at noon from the Kelly-Kemp Funeral Home, Bethesda, with Rev. Carl Orphanides officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.

 

Charles Franklin Blackstone Jr.

Charles Franklin Blackstone Jr., 29, 4977 Avery Road, Amlin, OH, formerly of Lewisville, died Feburary 9, 1991, in Mount Carmel  West Hospital, Columbus, as the result of an automobile accident. He was a graduate of Skyvue High School, a construction worker, and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, near Lewisville. He was born at Barnesville August 3, 1961, a son of Charles Franklin and Wanda Blackstone, who survive of Route 2, Lewisville.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Carol Bish Blackstone of the home; three daughters, Jessica Lee, Nichole Lynn Blackstone, both of Lewisville, and Sabrina Blackstone of Amlin; a stepson, Donald Bish, Lewisville, three brothers survive, Gregory, Mitchell and Jason, all of Lewisville; four sisters, Mrs. Keith (Rebecca) Geehring and Karen Blackstone, both of Lewisville, and Mrs. Elson(Marilyn) Hinkle and Pamela  Blackstone, both of Woodsfield; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mildred Blackstone, Lewisville, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Mark A. Blackstone in 1978.

Friends were received February 12, at Watter's Funeral Home, Woodsfield.  Funeral liturgy and Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. February 13, in St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev.Samuel Saprano as celebrant. Interment in St.Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Lewisville. Vigil services were held at 7:30 p.m. February 12 at the funeral home.

 

Mary Marcella Kenney nee Smithberger (January 13, 1918 - June 12, 1991)

Mary M. Kenney, age 73, formerly of 2725 Blair Pl. SW, died Wednesday, June 12, 1991, at Aultman Hospital after an extended illness. Born at Lewisville, OH, a daughter of the late Henry and Cecilia Smithberger. Resident of Cant since 1963 coming from Columbus. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Preceded in death by her husband, Jerome R. Kenney in 1957.

Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Marshall Sparrow of Springfield, OH; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert J. and Barbara Kenney of Long Island, NY, David M. and Cathy Kenney of Waynesburg, OH, Daniel J. and Veronica Kenney of Mill Valley, CA; eight grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Leander (Genny) Kuhn of Lewisville and Mrs. Edna Crum of Canton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10 a, m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery, Lockbourne, OH. Calling hours Friday 7-9 p. m. and Saturday 9 - 9:45 a, m. at the Welch-Sekeres Funeral Home.

 

Ray Neuhart

COLUMBUS--Ray Neuhart, 77, of Marysville, died Wednesday (Jan, 2, 1991) at the Marysville Nursing Home. He was born Jan. 28, 1913 in Batesville, son of the late James and Hazel Mercer Neuhart. He was a retired employee of the City of Columbus.

He leaves two brothers, Ralph, of Cambridge and Richard of Batesville; two sons, Monte of Marysville and Jeryl of Canton; a sister, Marie Morris of Canton; two grandchildren. His wife, Ruth, died in 1954. Two brothers and a sister are also deceased.

Schoedinger Funeral Home, Columbus, was in charge of arrangements. Calling hours were observed at the funeral home today. Friends may call at 11 A.M. Friday at Batesville United Methodist Church. Burial will be 1 P.M. Friday in Batesville Cemetery.

 

Lillian June Baker nee Schindewolf

Lillian `June' Baker, 67, died July 3 at Little Forest Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Baker was born in Akron and was a resident of the area all of her life. She was a member of the Barberton Seventh Day, Adventist Church.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Danna Baker of Houston, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Fred Smith of Akron; grandchildren, Christina, Erin and Daniel; sisters, Dorothy Quier, Caroline Carroll both of Akron.

Graveside services, Friday, 1 p.m. at Mount Peace Cemetery, 183 Aqueduct St., Akron, 44303. Pastor Greg Schaller officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3085 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44313. (Hopkins Lawver, Akron, 733-6271.)

 

William H. Morris

William H. Morris SPRINGFIELD TWP. -- William H. Morris, 77, died suddenly Oct. 2, 1991. Mr. Morris was born in Akron and lived in the area all of his life. He was formerly employed with Bel-Air and retired from Gran Lanes.

Preceded in death by son, William (Tony) Morris, in February 1985, he is survived by wife, Kathleene (Kitty) of 47 years; daughter and son-in-law, Liz and Terry Sisson; granddaughters, Jami Sisson, Missy and her husband, Randy Homan; great-granddaughters, Sarah, Holly and Jennifer, all of Springfield Township; and many loving friends.

Funeral service Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at the Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd., Akron, Rev. Glenn A. Taylor officiating. Burial at Hillside Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home TONIGHT, 6 to 9.

 

Omie Nell Morris

Omie Nell Morris, 83, of Owensboro died Sunday, Dec 8, 1991, at McLean County General Hospital, Calhoun.  She was born in Tell City, Ind.; and was retired from General Electric Co.; and was a charter member of The Peoples Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Anna Louise Miles of Owensboro; seven grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; a great great grandchild; and a sister, Elizabeth Hinton of Whitesville.

Services are at 1:30 pm Tuesday at The Peoples Baptist Church, Owensboro.  Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Owensboro.  Visitation after 1 pm today at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville, and from 12:30 to 1:30 pm Tuesday at the church. 

 

Cranmore, Troy Cranmore

   Bertha Marie Matz was born October 10, 1943, at Lewisville, Ohio. Bertha and Troy Cranmore were married May 8, 1959
   Troy was born December 20, 1933, near Dayton, Tennessee, the son of Daniel and Eva Schouggins Cranmore.
   Troy was employed at U-Brand since about 1970 on 71. He retired May 24, 1989, as a molder and was a member of the U-Brand 20 plus Club.
   Troy died Monday afternoon, December 9, 1991, in Samaritan Hospital following a long illness.
   Services were held Thursday, December 12, 1991, at 1 p.m. in the Denbow-Primm Funeral Home with Tarvis Irwin, minister, officiating.  Burial was in Ashland County Memorial Park.

 

Christman, Margaret L. Christman, nee Kimpel

WOODSFIELD -- Margaret L. Christman, 67, of 47660 Ohio 800, Woodsfield, died early Wednesday (May 22, 1991) in Marietta Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Christman was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ at Woodsfield. She was born Feb. 13, 1925, in Monroe County to Carl and Ella Book Kimpel.

In addition to her mother of Roseville, she is survived by her husband, Clayton Christman; four sons, Clayton Jr. of Clarington, and David, Dan and Dean, all of Woodsfield; two daughters, Susan Dick of Lewisville and Holly Dick of Woodsfield; three brothers, Samuel Kimpel of Westerville, Charles Kimpel of Roseville and Roy Kimpel of Somerset; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in St. Paul's United Church of Christ at Woodsfield with the Rev. Michael Dowd officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home in Woodsfield.

Clara L. Franks -- Caldwell - Clara Louisa Franks, 103 of lower, Salem R.D. 1, died Friday (May 15, 1992) at her home. She was born Sept. 19, 1888, in Elk Township, near Harriettsville at her current residence, daughter of the late Henry and Catherine Ulman Franks. She was a homemaker and farmer, a member of Stafford United Methodist Church and the Noble Court Senior Citizens. She was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers. Miss Franks leaves several nieces and nephews.

    He is survived by his wife, Goldie Grace Slack Christman; two sons, James of Barnesville, Ohio and Donald of Canton, Ohio; five daughters, Mary Stephens of Warren, Bertha Tucker of Canton, Michigan, Sylvia Miser and Zelda Rohrabaugh, both of Cambridge, Ohio, and Barbara Kehl of Salesville, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Lawrence (Ella) Kahrig, of Lewisville route; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by a son; three brothers, Clem Christman, Herman (Pet) Christman, and Homer Christman; a sister, Freda Renker; three grandchildren.
    Friends were received February 16 at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, Ohio, where services were held at 1 p.m. February 17 with Minister James W. Gallagher officiating. Burial was in Calais Cemetery, Calais, Ohio

    He was a retired employee of Timken Roller Bearing, Canton, Ohio, and a member of the Church of Christ of Boston, Ohio.
    He is survived by his wife, Jessie Wehr Betts; three sons, Richard Lewis of Malaga, Ohio, Robert Allen and Kenneth Edward, both of Jerusalem; two daughters, Eva Jean Sampson of Belmont, Ohio and Sheryl Ann Pierce of
Jerusalem; a brother, Robert W. of Quaker City, Ohio; three sisters, Josie Leach of Barnesville, Juanita Neuhart of Barnesville and Florence Starr of Fairview; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Saloma (Sally) Christman Betts and a brother, Benjamin.
    Friends were received March 10 at the Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, Barnesville where services were held at 2 p.m. on March 11, 1992. Officiating was Evangelist James Gallagher. Interment was in Calais Cemetery, Calais, Ohio.

    Daniel Bradley Betts, 19, of 33653 State Route 78, Lewisville, Ohio died March 7, 1992, near Malaga Ohio, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
    He was born August 16, 1972, at Barnesville, Ohio, a son of Russell and Mary Joyce Kuhn Betts who survive of Lewisville.
    He was a 1990 graduate of Skyvue High School, Graysville, Ohio and was attending Columbus College of art and Design, Columbus, Ohio. He was an employee of Concourse Hotel in Columbus and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church near Lewisville.
    Surviving in addition to his parents are three sisters, Mrs. Douglas (Valerie) Henthorn of Reynoldsburg, Mrs. Kyle (Lisa) Lumbatis, Newark, Ohio, and Mary Beth Betts of the home; four brothers, Timothy and Tony  Betts both of Reynoldsburg, Ohio and Nathan and Aaron Betts both of the home; maternal grandparents, Leander and Genevieve Kuhn of Lewisville; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Zelda Betts, and one nephew, Derek Tyler Betts of Woodsfield.
    He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Elbert Betts.

    Friends were received at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield on March 9 where vigil services were also held.
    Funeral liturgy\ with Mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. March 10 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lewisville with Monsignor George Adams as the celebrant. Burial followed in Chapel Hill Cemetery near Lewisville

    Lawrence Jerome Brubach, 79, of Ocean City, Maryland, died July 6, 1992, at his home.
    He was born in Miltonsburg, Ohio, a son of the late William B. Brubach and Rosa Burkhart Brubach.
    He owned and operated the Hamilton Tavern in Baltimore for more than 30 years. He was also employed by the Baltimore City Bureau of Recreation and Parks for 15 years.
    He was a member of Ocean City Knights of Columbus, Ocean City Lions Club, Ocean City Elks Club, American Heart Association, Ocean City Senior MAC Center, Caine Woods Community Association, American Association of Retired
Persons, Hamilton Business Men s Association, Hamilton Democratic Club, Clifton Pleasure Club and St. Luke s Catholic Church in Ocean City. He was a past president of the Gibbons Club.
    He is survived by his wife, Dorothy P. Brubach; a son, Jerry Brubach of Finksburg, Maryland; two daughters, Rose Chester of Bel Air, Maryland and Kris Gomez of West Chester, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Michael Chester,  of Gaithersburg, Maryland, David Chester of Woods Hole, MA, Laura Chester of Miami, Andrew Gomez of West Chester,  and Brian Brubach of Finksburg; two step-grandchildren, Michael Gomez and Edward Gomez of West
Chester; a great-granddaughter, Hilary Chester of Gaithersburg;  two brothers, Albert Brubach of Bridgeport and Paul Brubach of Woodsfield; two sisters, Marie O Connell and Lillie Calvert, both of Woodsfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    A funeral Mass was held at St. Luke s Catholic Church on 100th Street in Ocean City with the Reverend William Porter officiating. Interment followed at a later date.

    Paul R. Turner, 87, of 101 N. Paul Street, Woodsfield, died October 31, 1992, in Barnesville Hospital, Barnesville, Ohio. He was born March 31, 1905, in West Sunbury, Butler County, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Harvey and Etta Campbell Turner.
    He was a retired funeral director, cofounder and former owner of Bauer-Turner Funeral Home and Furniture Store in Woodsfield. He was also a former president and vice-president of the Woodsfield Savings and Loan and was a Monroe County corner for over 30 years. He was a member of Woodsfield Presbyterian Church.
    He is survived by two sons, Ronald and Dave, both of Woodsfield.

 

Mary E. Hosmer nee Wilson

Mary E. Hosmer , 69, 1510 Spruce Ave., died at 5:31 a.m. of an apparent heart attack at Wilson Memorial Hospital.

She was born Sept. 29, 1922, in McConnelsville, daughter of Howard and Fausta (Anderson) Wilson. (She died April 6, 1992)

  In 1961 she was married to John R. Hosmer. He survives.

  Other survivors include three sons, John Hosmer II of Sidney, Jack Matson of Newark, and Chris Johnson of Tipp city; three daughters, Mrs. Luther (Janot) Fitch of Louisa, KY, Mrs. Dowel (Lois) Derr of Bradford, Oh. And Rosemary Mees of Sidney; two step daughters, Cindy Abner of Piqua and Carol Franke of Ansonia; 24 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, George and Gene Wilson, both of Newark.

  Two brothers, a sister and two great-grandchildren are deceased.

  Mrs. Hosmer was baptized in the first Baptist faith. She was a manager of the Spruce Avenue Apartments Complex.

  Services will be held Wednesday at 1p.m. at the Cromes Funeral Home with the Rev. William Hovestreydt officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Point Cemetery, Pasco, oh.

  Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

 

Lela Rossini nee Lendon

Lela Rossini, 72 Fairpoint, died Thursday evening, October 8, 1992, Thursday evening at Wheeling Continuous Care Center, Wheeling. She was born January 29, 1920 at Belmont daughter of the late Wilbur and Lucy Bumgardner Lendon. She was a Methodist and a member of the American-Polish Club at Fairport. She as preceded in death by her husbands, Everett Wesley and Robert Rossini. Surviving are three sons, Robert Wesley of Lafferty, William Wesley of Maynard and James Wesley of Belmont; a daughter, Ruth Ann Juriga of Cleveland; two brothers, Lesley Lendon of Dennison and Earl Lendon of Florida; a sister Helen Stewart of Carrollton; three grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Beck Funeral Home, St. Clairsville, Sunday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., where services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Linda Masters officiating. Burial follows in Henrysburg Cemetery.

 

Charles Joseph Kinkade

SUNNYSIDE Charles Joseph Kinkade, 75, of 6891 Progressive Road, Wapato, passed away at Sunnyside Community Hospital February 23, 1992.

Charles was born February 13, 1917 to John and Essie (Carr) Kinkade at Plentywood, Montana. His early years were spent in Montana and Missouri and in 1934 the family moved to Mabton, Washington.

Charles served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for three years. In 1940 he joined the U.S. Army and he was at Pearl Harbor when war was declared.

In September, 1944, he was married to Jayne I. Sillbaugh in Selah, Washington.

Charles was honorably discharged from the service in October 1945, and made his home in Mabton.

Charles worked for many farmers around the Yakima Valley and in the Bickleton area. In 1961 he began work for Prosser Packers and Twin City Foods, until he retired in 1977.

He was preceded in death by a baby daughter in 1946, both parents, his wife Jayne in 1974, and by his brother Harley in 1984.

Charles is survived by two daughters, Jill Kinkade of Seattle, and Sandi Kinkade of Westport, WA; two sisters, Veda L. Harrison of Selah and Mrs. Elmer (Thelma) Satterfield of Grandview; a dear companion and friend, Lenora Stuber of Wapato and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Valley Hills Mortuary, corner of North Avenue and North 11th in Sunnyside. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Mabton Cemetery.

Military graveside services were conducted by Coshocton Veterans Council in Fairfield Cemetery. Friends were received from 5 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.

He was born Dec. 23, 1925, in Noble County, son of the late Ellis and Maude Carpenter Leach. He attended school in Noble County and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He worked as a bricklayer for 30 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ, West Lafayette, Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Local 44 of Zanesville and the Newcomerstown Elks Lodge.

He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Mr. Leach leaves his wife, Eileen Gallagher Leach; a son Larry G. Leach of Coshocton; a daughter, Mrs. John (Diana) Calvin of West Lafayette; three sisters, Edith Bates of West Lafayette; Nancy Moore of Coshocton and Phyllis Bates of Sarahsville; and four grandchildren.

MOUNT VERNON---Kyle C. Day, 87, of Mount Vernon, died Saturday (July 11, 1992) at the Morning View Care Center, Danville, following a lengthy illness.

He was born July 4, 1905, at Stafford, son of the late Rufer and Mary Carpenter Day.

He had been a resident of Mount Vernon since 1950. He was a retired carpenter and was known as a restorer of antique player pianos and music boxes.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Leatha Westernbarger; three infant children; a grandson, Scott and a brother, Merle Day.

Mr. Day leaves his wife of 62 years, Beulah Shackle Day; two sons, Glen Day of Gambier and Donald Day of Massillon; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Frances Jeannette Stalder (nee Martin)

Frances Jeannette Stalder began her life journey on March 27, 1919, at Garfield, Illinois as the daughter of Otto and Winifred Hannah Owen Martin and entered into eternal rest on August 20, 1992 at the Clarkson Hospital at Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 1 day.

At an early age, she moved with her parents to Carson, North Dakota, where she received her early childhood education in a rural school setting and later graduated from the Carson High School.

On April 1, 1940 she was united in marriage with John Dale Stalder at Carson, North Dakota. One son was born to bless this union. Frances worked in the Villisca area for several years and more recently was employed and retired from the Union Carbide Plant at Red Oak after working there for twenty-five years. She has made her home in Lenox since 1982. She enjoyed crocheting, tatting, knitting and all kinds of craft work as well as those things associated with being a good homemaker and mother. She also enjoyed doing volunteer work at the local nursing home and helping with the hospice program.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dale, 3 sisters Mary Ellen, Nellie and Norah, her brother Bill and grandson Shawn.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son Larry Stalder and his wife Ann of Elliot, Iowa, 2 grandsons Shane and Courtney Stalder, her brother Ray Martin and his wife Reva of Lenox, her two sisters Gusta Bahr of Underwood, Minnesota and Luella McIntosh of Orofino, Idaho as well as many nieces and nephews and friends.

May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn her passing.

REDLANDS--Ruth Eileen Paulus, 90, died of cardiorespiratory arrest Wednesday, Feb. 5, in Redlands. A native of Buchtel, Ohio, she was a resident of Redlands for 33 years.

She was a Realtor for eight years and a member of the Redlands Board of Realtors.

She was a life member of the Eastern Star and Redlands Hospital Auxiliary and a member of Redlands Lawn Bowling Club.

Survivors include one son, Dr. John L. Paulus of Rancho Mirage; one daughter, Ruth Schufletowski of Camp Verde, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Cortner-Pierce Bros. Chapel, the Rev. Peter Moore-Kochlacs of First United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will be private, at Hillside Memorial Park.

Passed away on June 22, 1992 in Gladwin following a short illness. Age 70 years. She was born January 9, 1922 in Woodsfield, Ohio. Mrs. Palmer moved to Beaverton, Mich. in her early years, where she was graduated from the Beaverton High School in 1942. Mrs. Palmer then joined the Women's Air Corp where she served during World War II. She then moved to Saginaw. The fomer Billie V. Turner married David H. Palmer in 1945. Mr. Palmer predeceased her January 21, 1963. Mrs. Palmer owned and operated Billie's Beauty Shop in Saginaw from 1952 to 1964. She then came to Gladwin where she had owned property since 1954, where she owned and operated the Secord Bar until 1967. Mrs. Palmer then worked at Standish Products until her retirement in 1975. Survivors include two sons, David H. Palmer of Traverse City; and Gregg A. Palmer of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Bess Walters of Saginaw; and Mrs. Mary Agin of Circleville, Ohio; one brother, Roger Turner of Olney, Ohio.*

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 25, 1992 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Home in Gladwin, with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Saginaw. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Mr. Christman died Sunday (May 3, 1992) near Somerton.

He was a retired dentist and a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ at Woodsfield. He was born Feb. 19, 1912, in Monroe County to Lewis P. and Ida Paulusm [sic] Christman.

Christman is survived by one son, John of Columbus; two daughters, Katherine Haselberger of Woodsfield, and Charlotte McCoy of Parma; three brothers, Roy and Clayton, both of Woodsfield and John of Akron; one sister; Frieda* Hamilton of Wellsburg, W.Va.; and four grandchildren.

Christman was preceded in death by his wife, Dollie Pfalzgraf Christman, in 1985; one infant son, Bruce Thomas, in 1948; one brother, Walter, on March 6, 1992.

Stalder, Dennis James Stalder

COPPERAS COVE -- A memorial service for Dennis J. Stalder, 44, of Copperas Cove will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Copperas Cove High School gymnasium with Malcom Dickinson officiating.

Following cremation, private burial will be at the Sam Shults Ranch in Lampasas County. Arrangements are by Crawford-Bowers-Brown Funeral Home in Copperas Cove.

Mr. Stalder died Sunday in a local hospital.

He was born in Reno, Nev., the son of John W. and Jo Denton Stalder. He was reared in the Reno and Sparks, Nev., area. He graduated from Sparks High School where he edited the school newspaper. In 1966, he received a bachelor of arts in journalism degree from the University of Nevada at Reno.

After two years in Germany with the U.S. Army, he moved to Borger and was a reporter on the Borger News-Herald. He also worked in Borger as a buyer for Panhandle Pipe and Steel.

He received a teaching certificate in English from the University of Texas at Arlington and taught three years in Dallas before joining the Killeen Daily Herald in 1982. In 1986, he became public information officer for the Copperas Cove school system and in 1991 moved to Copperas Cove High School as a journalism teacher and adviser to the yearbook.

He married Janice Albrecht Ray in Lampasas County on June 10, 1987.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Survivors are his wife, Janice Stalder of Copperas Cove; and his father, John Stalder of Sparks, Nev.

Memorial may be made to the Dennis Stalder Memorial Scholarship Fund.

    Donald E. Wittenbrook, 77, of 208 Ohio Street, Woodsfield, died at 5:45 a.m. March 29, 1993, in the Barnesville Hospital, Barnesville. He was born May 31, 1915, at Armstrong Mills, a son of the late Charles and Mary Reed Wittenbrook.
    He was a retired state inspector for the Ohio Department of Transportation in Monroe County. He was a member of the Buchanan Presbyterian Church near Lewisville and was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, a charter member of the V. F. W. Post 5303, Woodsfield.
    He is survived by his wife, Doris M. Winland Wittenbrook, whom he married on November 24, 1937,; several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by one sister, Naomi Hines in March 1986.
    Friends received at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield on March 30 and funeral services held at 2 p.m. March 31 with the Reverend Don Hitchcock officiating. Burial in Oaklawn Cemetery in Woodsfield, Ohio with full military graveside services.

    Clyde J. (Shorty) Matz, 56, of 500 Middle Street, Polk, Ohio, died January 31, 1993, at his residence after a lingering illness. He was born on September 7, 1936, in Lewisville, Monroe County, Ohio to the late Willie T. and Nellie L. Morris Matz.
    He moved to Ashland, Ohio from Monroe County and had been an area resident for the past 38 years. He was retired from Eagle Rubber as a group leader in 1984, after 29 years service. He was affiliated with the Paradise Hill United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Polk Volunteer Fire Department and had been active in the community with several youth programs.
    He is survived by his wife, Florence JoAnn Miller, whom he married October 14, 1955; three sons, Rocky L. and Ronald L., both Ashland and Ray W. of Mansfield; two sisters, Mrs. Paul (Norma Lee) Wilson and Bertha Cranmore, both of Ashland; one brother, Walter S. of Zanesville; six grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held February 3 at 11 a.m. in the Denbow-Primm Funeral Home, Ashland, with Reverend Dan Loomis officiating. Burial followed in the Ashland Cemetery

    Oneda M. Ludwig, 96, of Woodsfield, died at 11 p.m. March 23, 1993, in the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born March 13, 1897, near Lewisville, a daughter of the late Jacob and Rachel Matz Christman.
    She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Woodsfield where she was a member of the Women s Guild. She was a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star Lodge 268 Woodsfield and an honorary member of the Lydia Temple 199 Pythian Sisters in Woodsfield and also a member of the Gideons International.
    She is survived by two sons, Philip E. Ludwig of Woodsfield and Elwood Hossman of New Matamoras, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. George (Eileen) Kremer and Mrs. John (Myra) McGuire, both of Beallsville, Ohio; two sisters, Ruby
Mann of Jerusalem and Mrs. (Gladys) Reich of Lewisville, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jess Hossman; her second husband, Gilbert Ludwig, in 1975; one brother, Elmer Christman; three sisters, Bertha Neuhardt, Edna Young and Zelda Rubel.
    Friends were received at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield on March 26. Friends were then received from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. March 27 at St. Paul s United Church of Christ, Woodsfield with the Reverend Michael Dowd officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.

    Lillian M. Burkhart, 78, of 135 Maple Avenue, Woodsfield, died 5:35 p.m. March 31, 1993, in the Barnesville Hospital, Barnesville, Ohio. She was born September 23, 1914, at Woodsfield, a daughter of the late Fred and Belle Shorts Schaub.
    She was a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield, where she was also a member of the Catholic Women s Club.
    She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Burkhart and Charles Burkhart, both of Woodsfield; one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Mary) Logston of Jerusalem, Ohio; one brother, Eugene Schaub of Woodsfield; four grandchildren; four step-granddaughters; several local nieces and nephews including Mrs. Glenn (Juanita) Stalder, Sr. of Sardis, Ohio route and Robert Young of Woodsfield.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest J. Burkhart on December 15, 1984; one sister, Margaret Young; one brother, Guy Schaub; two grandsons, Anthony and James Burkhart.
    Friends were received at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield on April 2. Funeral Liturgy with Mass was concelebrated at 11 a.m. April 3 in St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield. Burial followed in the Church cemetery.

    Arthur E. Reich, 79, of the Bishop H. Hodges Continuous Care Center, Wheeling, West Virginia formerly of Miltonsburg-Calais Road, Woodsfield, died April 14, 1993, at Wheeling Park Medical Center. He was born January 29, 1914, in Monroe County, Ohio a son of the late Edward and Bertha Claus Reich.
    He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Peter s United Church of Christ, Woodsfield.
    He is survived by one son, Lewis Reich of Ocala, Florida; two daughters, Alice Kerns, of Glen Dale, West Virginia and Debra Nelson of Shawano, Wisconsin; one brother, Vernon Reich of Lewisville; six grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Melba Hoff Reich in March 1983.
    Friends were received at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, April 16 and services were held April 17 at 1 p.m. with Reverend Randall Gehres officiating. Burial followed in the Miltonsburg Cemetery

    Agnes Mary Lawson, 78, 110 North Paul St., Woodsfield, Ohio died Wednesday afternoon September 29, 1993, at her home. She was born June 23, 1915, in Monroe County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Samuel and Maggie Goodballett Christman.
    She was a retired employee of her former Johnathon Logan Sewing Factory Barnesville. She was a member of the St. Paul s United Church of Christ, Woodsfield.
    She was preceded in death by her first husband: Isaac Johnson in 1968 and her second husband, Perle Lawson in 1987, also a sister: Eva Brownfield and two brothers: Everett Christman and Harold Christman.
    She is survived by three brothers: Grant and Frank Christman both of Woodsfield, Ohio and Vernon Christman of Ashland, Ohio; one sister: Edna Long of Batesville, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
    Friends received from 2-9 p.m. Friday at the Bauer-Turner Funeral home, Woodsfield where services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 2, 1993. Interment in the Crestview Cemetery, Barnesville, Ohio

Starr Nursing Home, Morristown. He was a farmer and a member of Somerton Church of Christ.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda W. Steed; his parents, Harper and Minnie Williams Steed; a brother, Lance.
    Surviving are a daughter, Marie Steed of Jerusalem; a brother, John of Barnesville, Ohio.

Charles R. Piatt

Charles Ralph Piatt, 71, of 60 E. Third St., Ashland, died august 10, 1993 in Griffith Nursing Home. He was born Sept. 09, 1921 in Woodsfield, the son of Charlie and Emma Parks Piatt.

He has resided in Ashland for the past 40 years, moving there from Woodsfield. He was employed as a production line worker having worked in the rubber industry. He was a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife Kathryn Morris, whom he married August 13, 1946. One daughter (Genevieve) Hossman of Mansfield; one son Donald of Ashland; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Bright and Elizabeth Alleman of Woodsfield; two brothers, Elmer of West Salem and Frank of Ashland.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, David Hossman.

Alfred W. Kahrig

Alfred William Kahrig, 85, a resident of Lewisville, died suddenly following a long battle with cancer at 9:20 p.m. January 30, 1993, at the Woodsfield nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Summit township, Monroe County, Ohio on May 10, 1907, and was a lifelong Monroe County resident. He was the second child born to Phillip A. and Louisa Lucetta Pfalzgraf Kahrig. He was baptized on June 16, 1907, and was confirmed December 19, 1920, in St. John s Middle Church, where he as been a lifelong member, presently named the Trinity United Church of Christ near Lewisville.

He was educated in Barnhart and Owl Hollow schools. He married Gertrude Elizabeth Christman, February 18, 1932. She was the daughter of George L. and Magdalena Matz Christman. Alfred was a school bus driver from 1938-1947 for Miltonsburg and Jerusalem schools. He also was a farmer and auto repairman in Miltonsburg area; a meat cutter in Reich s Meat Market in Barnesville from 1961-1987. Until his recent illness, he was an active member of Men s Brotherhood with Trinity UCC.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude; three daughters and sons-in-law, Thomas and Lena Pettit of Columbus, Charles and Marlene Caldwell of Pataskala, Larry and Myrna Gardner of Graysville; one son and daughter-in-law, Lewis and Teresa Sechman Kahrig of Woodsfield; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Ella Christman Kahrig of Lewisville, Benjamin and Patricia Kahrig of Cambridge, Homer and Velva Eagan Kahrig of Salesville; three sisters, Marie Brooks of Fresno, Sophia Reischman of Barnesville, and Minnie Walters of Marietta; one sister-in-law, Laura Christman Kahrig of Woodsfield Rt. and one brother-in-law, Alva Christman of Quaker City; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edwin of Marietta and George of Lewisville; one sister, Mrs. Alva, Pauline, Christman of Quaker City; one infant daughter; three sons, Melvin and Raymond of home, and Marion of Marietta.

He approached life with honesty and a strong sense of right and wrong. He never compromised his values, always chose to do the 'right" thing, without regard for any personal hardships that might result. His faith gave him the strength to overcome any difficult.

Alfred was not afraid of hard work. Although, as a farmer, he was faced with physical labor, long days, and the uncertainty that comes from being at the mercy of Mother Nature. He seemed to be at peace working with the land and caring for his animals. He savored the joys this way of life offered. He believed in charity, always willing to share anything he owned, or opened his home to anyone in need. He never met a stranger. Alfred considered himself to be a wealthy man because he had so much of the things he valued most in life; his family and friends. He was grateful for his many blessings. His integrity and kindness served as an inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know him.

The family was received at the Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield from 2 to 9 p.m. February 1 where services were held February 2 at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Edward Thurmond officiating. Burial was in St,. John s Middle Church Cemetery, near Lewisville. Donald G. Latta, Sr., age 82, of 253 Willow St., East Canton, died Saturday morning [SUBMITTER'S NOTE:  Date of death was 20 Nov 1993] in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. He was an East Canton area resident for the past 30 years. Former Co-Owner and Operator of Latta Brothers in Robertsville for 25 years. Member of the Christ Presbyterian Church, Canton, where he had served as a past Deacon; a past member of the East Canton Lions Club.

Preceded in death by his wife, Esther E. Latta, who died April 24, 1993.

Survived by two sons, David of Louisville and Donald, Jr. of Murrysville, PA.; four grandchildren, Krystal Morrow and Victoria Hummel both of Canton, Sara and Ann Latta of Murrysville, PA.; three great-grandchildren, Valerie and Dale Morrow, Dennis Hummel; one sister, Jan Latta of Canton; one brother, Vernon Latta of Ft. She was an East Canton area resident for the past 30 years. Retired from the Canton Local School District as a teacher and guidance counselor in 1975 after 25 years of service. Member of Christ Presbyterian Church, Canton, State Teachers Retirement System, the Stark County Retired Teacher Assoc. and the East Canton AARP. A graduate of Mapleton Rd. High School and Kent State University.

Survived by her husband, Donald G. Latta Sr; two sons, David of Louisville, Donald, Jr. of Murrysville, PA; four grandchildren, Krystal Morrow, Victoria Hummel, both of Canton, Sara and Ann Latta of Murrysville, PA: three great-grandchildren, Valerie and Dale Morrow, Dennis Hummel.

Mary Elisabeth Latta, nee Miller, 83, of Fort Myers Beach, Florida, formerly of Canton, died Sunday, October 18, at Marymount Hospital in Cleveland. She graduated from Canton South High School and Canton Actual Business College then worked for the Celina Insurance Company before founding the Latta Insurance Agency. She was a past president of the Canton Garden Club and active in Trinity Brethren Church.

Preceded in death by son Jerry Richard, she is survived by husband Vernon; daughter Betty (Don) Kitchen of Twinsburg; brothers John (Elsie) Miller of East Sparta, and Robert (Jean) Miller of Altamonte Springs, Florida; grandchildren Kelli (Randy) Ross of Indianapolis and Jim Kitchen of Costa Mesa, California; sisters-in-law Jan Latta and Thelma Latta of Canton; and loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday with family visitation at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Methodist Church on Post Road in Twinsburg. Stella Marie Paulus, age 76, formerly of 1115 Wertz Ave., SW, Canton, and  more recently residing with her daughter, Sue Lutz in Canton, passed away Saturday morning [SUBMITTER'S NOTE: 20 September 1998] at the home following an extended illness. Born in Canton on December 16, 1921, she was the daughter of the late, Wesley W. and Stella (Kennedy) Schaub. She was a 1939 graduate of McKinley High School. Preceded in death by a son, Larry Paulus and her husband, Sylvester "Hank" Paulus, who passed away December 1, 1993. Survivors include two daughters, Mazella Sue Lutz of Canton and Sandra Jane Franklin of Eact Rochester, OH; son, Jams A. Paulus of Perry Twp.; brother, Wesley W. Schaub Jr. of Jackson Twp.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grand-children. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at ll a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. Burial will be in Melscheimer Cemetery.

 

Ardith Marie Mendenhall

CALDWELL----Ardith Marie Mendenhall, 87, of 50621 Route 147, Sarahsville, died Monday (Feb. 1, 1993) at her home.
She was born Feb. 28, 1905, in Noble County, daughter of the late Garfield and Tessie Bates Danford. She was a homemaker and owned and operated a family farm with her late husband. Mrs. Mendenhall was a member of Mt. Ephraim United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a Republican and presiding judge and clerk at the Center East voting precinct for many years and a former Tri-School and Shenandoah Band Mother.

Mrs. Mendenhall was preceded in death by her husband John H. Mendenhall, on Dec. 11, 1979; a daughter, Mildread Lucille Mendenhall; two brothers and three sisters.

She leaves two daughters; Mrs. Austin (Ruthanne) Hannahs and Mrs. Glen (Wilma Marie) Bates, both of Sarahsville R.D. 1; a son and daughter-in-law, John Wayne and Wilma Mendenhall of Quaker City; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, brother and sisters-in-law.

Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at McVey-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell, where services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Marjorie King officiating. Burial will be Mt. Ephriam Cemetery..

 

Darlene Regina Liston, nee Blackstone

Darlene Regina (Blackstone) Liston, age 54, of Columbus, died October 5, 1993, at Riverside Hospital.  She was born September 1, 1939. She was employed with the State of Ohio with the Audit Parole Authority.

Surviving are her husband, Richard; sons, Michael (Marynelle) Liston, Doug (Connie) Liston; daughters, Diane(Adam) Frix and Maria Thompson, all of Columbus; grandchildren, Jennifer Thompson, David and Mary Liston; mother, Mildred Blackstone of Lewisville; twin brother, Donald (Hazel) of Wadsworth; brothers, Vernon (Cora), Frank (Wanda), Dale (Hilda), Francis (Judy), David (Nicki), and Patrick (Aleta) Blackstone of Lewisville; one sister, Mary (John) Sheets of Columbus.

She is also survived by her Mother-in-law, sister-in-law and a brother-in-law, Rosella Liston, Carolyn and Bill Bond of Columbus.

Friends were received at Schoedinger North Chapel, 5554 Karl Rd., Columbus. The rosary was recited October 7, in the evening. Funeral Mass was held at noon on Friday, October 8, 1993 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Fr. Rod De Pietro celebrant. Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery south of Columbus.

 

Marjorie Clara Burkhart nee Mahoney

Marjorie Clara Burkhart, 92, 128 Brill Street, Barnesville, died Tuesday, January 5, 1992, in Barnesville Health Care Center.  She was born October 12, 1900 in Belmont County, daughter of the late Edward and Ruth Anna Hull Mahoney.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Clemance Burkhart; three sons, Robert, Jackie, and William Jennings; one daughter, Mary Frances Bishop; one brother, Ernest Mahoney; four sisters, May Stephens, Debra DeHaven, Mary Murphy, and Dencie DeHaven.

Surviving are three sons, Charles, Thomas, and Joseph Burkhart all of Barnesville; one daughter, Mrs. Francis (Sarah) Milhoan of Talmadge; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Services were held Friday from the Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Miller officiating.  Burial was made in Assumption Cemetery, Barnesville.

 

Dessie P Reed nee Okey

Dessie Pearl Reed, 74, of Summerfield Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell, Ohio, formerly of Rt 1, Summerfield, died Saturday, May 8, 1993, at Guernsey Memorial Hospital, Cambridge. She was born June 20, 1918 near Stafford, a daughter of the late Clarence Orville and Ida Mae Crum Okey.

She was a member of the Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, near Lewisville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Reed; one brother, Clarence Okey.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Tom (Judy)Blackstone of Summerfield; one brother, Bernard Okey of Summerfield; six sisters, Beulah White of Byesville, Ethel Schell of Caldwell, Svlvia Balick of Cleveland, Freda Woodford of Marietta, Opal Garey and Fanchion Ramsey, both of Canton.

There will be no visitation. Private funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday May 10, at the Brubach-Watters Funeral Home, Summerfield, Ohio, with the Rev. Charles McRobie officiating. Burial follows in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Rt 1, Summerfield, Ohio.

She was born Sept. 21, 1911 in Monroe County, daughter of the late Abel and Louisa Carpenter Brown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd I. Leach in 1943. Also deceased are 15 brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Leach leaves three sons, Herbert "Tum" Leach of Summerfield and Russell and Dale Leach both of Jerusalem R.D.; two daughters, Leah Carpenter of Summerfield and Shelley Burkhart of Temperanceville; 23 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Raymond H. Ullman Jr.

Raymond H. Ullman Jr., 66, of 206 Emerald Street, Marietta, died Fridsay, May 21, 1993 in Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus. He was born June 26, 1926 near Stafford Ohio, the son of the late R. Herbert and Mary (McConnell) Ullman. He was a graduate of Stafford High School and Mountain State Business College. He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of American Legion Post 64; Washington County Scottish Rite Club; Scotish Rite Society; Valley of Cambridge; Norwood United Methodist Church; and Pioneer City Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans. He has been employed by Quaker State Oil Company for 39 Years and was regional manager at the time of his retirement. He was proceded in death by one sister Mrs. James (Eunice) Mallett. On Sept 17, 1947 he married Ruby Cline who survives with one daughter, Marianne Carter, of Parkersburg; and one sister, Mrs. Donald (Irene) Hogue, of Lewisville, Ohio. Funeral services were held Monday, with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery.

 

James H. Mallett

Lakeland, Florida------James H. Mallett of Lakeland died Thursday (Aug 19, 1993) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 81. Born in Stafford, Ohio, on March 2, 1912, he came to Lakeland from Mansfield, Ohio, more than 20 years ago. He was a licensed funeral director for more than 60 years and worked 20 years with Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home. He was an Army veteran of world war II and a member of the American Legion Post 16 of Mansfield. He was a member of the 40 & 8 club and the Voyager 20 Club. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lakeland. He was proceeded in death by his wife Eunice (Ullman) Mallett, in 1990. He is survived by his daughter, Martha Mossbarger, Lakeland; a brother, Joseph Mallett, Stafford, Ohio; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Services will be at 10:30 this morning at the Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, 1727 Bartow Road, Lakeland

    Hoffman, Ruby E., 94, of Marietta, Route 2, died at the home of her niece at 5 a.m., March 26, 1993. She was born May 15, 1898 in Monroe County. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Lakeworth, FL. She had been owner and manager of apartments until her retirement in 1976. She was a member of the Woodsfield Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 268, American Legion Auxillary in Woodsfield, and was a member of the Crippled Children's Society in

Woodsfield.
    She is survived by one niece, Nyla Griffith of Marietta; two nephews, Archie Hoffman of Indianapolis and Koy Whitacre of Graysville; two cousins, Nancy and Elizabeth Amos of Dayton; and 10 great-nephews and nieces.
    She was preceded in death in September 1954 by her husband, Harry Hoffman. They married May 15, 1916;  one brother, Arnett.
    Friends were received at Hadley Funeral Home, Marietta, March 27. Services were held at 1:30 p.m., March 28 with the Rev. James Dickey
officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery at Graysville.

Charles Denver Bonam, 82, of 400 Cambridge Drive, Woodsfield, Oh. died Monday February 1, 1993, at Barnesville Hospital. He was born February 12, 1910 in Perry Township. A son of the late Lewis and Jane Dunn Bonam.

He was an Army Veteran of W.W. II serving in the 640th Quartersmaster in Europe. He was also a member of the Plainview Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by one daughter; Lois Joan Bonam and one brother Glenn Bonam.

Surviving are his wife Freda Yost Bonam of Woodsfield whom he married September 2, 1939. Also a daughter and son-in-law, Faith E. and Vernon W. Crum of Caldwell, four sisters: Anna Hensel, New Matamoras, Ohio, Estelle Henthorn, Sardis, Oh, Virginia O'Connor, Newark, Oh, and Georgia McMillan North Carolina; three grandchildren : Amanda Jane Crum, John Denver Crum, and Andrea Rae Crum all of Caldwell.

Friends were received at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, where services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, February 5. Interment in the Plainview Cemetery, Woodsfield

 

Freda A. Bonam nee Yost

Freda A. Bonam, 74, of 400 Cambridge Drive, Woodsfield, Ohio, died Saturday afternoon, April 17, 1993 at Barnesville Hospital. She  was born in Perry Township, Monroe County, Ohio a daughter to the late Roy and Olive Cline Yost.

She was a member of the Plainview Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Denver Bonam February 1, 1993, one daughter Lois Joan Bonam in 1959 and one sister Waneta Hall in 1985.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Faith E. and Vernon W. Crum of Caldwell, Ohio, two brothers Glen Yost of Buena Park, California and Keith Yost of Pickney, Michigan, three grandchildren; Amanda Jane Crum, John Denver Crum, and Andrea Rae Crum all of Caldwell.

Friends were received Monday at the Bauer and Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, where services were held Tuesday, April 20, 1993 with Minister John Hamilton officiating. Interment was in the Plainview cemetery near Woodsfield.

     MATAMORAS - Wilbur C. Koher, 73, of Z Hill Road, Millers Run Community, died (April 12, 1993) in Wetzel County Hospital at New Martinsville, WV.
     Mr. Koher was born Jan, 8, 1920, in Millers Run to Charles and Gertrude (Ritchie) Koher.  He was retired from Ormet Corp. and was a member of the Valley View Baptist Church at Reno.
     He is survived by his wife, Gladys (Evans) Koher; one son, Terry of Millers Run; and two sisters, Edna Suter and Bessie Wright, both of Millers Run.
     Mr. Koher was preceded in death by one sister, Martha Winkler.
     Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Valley View Baptist Church at Reno with Rev. Arthur Jaggard officiating.  Entombment will be at East Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.  Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Eckles-Myers Funeral Home in Sistersville, WV., and one hour prior to the services at the church

Harry Jacob Matz was born December 3, 1906, and married Clara Hoff August 30, 1930, by Rev. Edward Brueske. Harry and Clara made their home in Lewisville, Ohio. Harry worked for the state and was the mayor of Lewisville. They sold their home and had a public sale of their personal goods on Saturday, June 23, 1979. Paul Weddle and Kenneth Bigley were the auctioneers. Clara died June 4, 1992, and Harry died, age 86, on May 28, 1993. Services were held in the Monbarren Funeral Home, Ic., at Dalton, Ohio at 2:00 p.m. Sunday , May 30, 1993. Officiating was Rev. Tim Hull and burial was in the Dalton Cemetery.     Harry J. Matz, 86, of West Schultz Street, Dalton, formerly of Lewisville, died May 28, 1993.  He was the son of the late Charles and Mary Neibch Matz.  He worked as an operating engineer. He was a founding member of the Lewisville Volunteer Fire Department from 1956--1991. He was Mayor of Lewisville for 43 years and a member of Stafford Masonic Lodge.
    He is survived by a son, Wilfred "Whitey" Matz of Dalton; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Hoff Matz, in 1992; one brother, Bill Matz.

Bertha D. Bonam nee Thomas
Bertha D. Bonam 86, a resident of Smithville Western Care Center since 1989,formerly of Leroy Court, Wooster, Ohio. Died Monday January 11, 1993. Service will be Thursday at Plainview Church of Christ in Woodsfield, with the Rev. Junior Kinney officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday from 7-9 at the Custer Funeral Home, Wooster.

She was born in 1907 in Woodsfield to John W. and Sarah (Keyser) Thomas and married Donald Bonam. He died in 1950.

She had made her home in Woodsfield, moving to Wooster in the early 1940's and was employed at Horn Nursing Home in food service. She was a member of the Plainview Church of Christ in Woodsfield.

Surviving are one son; Vernon Neil Thomas of Burbank; two grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Victor (Faye) Colvin of Antioch and Mary Jones of Martins Ferry. Husband , three brothers-seven sisters died previously.

Lloyd Cochran of Route 1, New Martinsville, died Thursday, March 18, in Selby General Hospital, Marietta, Ohio. He was born November 21, 1931 in Porters Falls. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, and also a life-time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, New Martinsville, He was a retired Sgt. First Class of the United States Army and a Protestant. He was preceded in death by this father, Earl Cochran.

Surviving are his wife, Lottie Gaye Thomas Cochran, a son, Lloyd A. of New Martinsville; two daughters, Mrs. John (Patty Gaye) Barcus and Mrs. Kenneth (Beulah Idell) Bonar, both of New Martinsville; his mother, Ola Staley Cochran Sams of Pine Grove; a sister, Mrs Frank (Cora) Baumbusch of Thornville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Heather, Stacy, Nicholas, and Amanda.

    She was a former Monroe County Director of Public Welfare and a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ, the V. F. W. Auxiliary Woodsfield, American Legion Auxiliary Woodsfield, Pythian Sisters Lodge Woodsfield, Rebekah Lodge Woodsfield, Graysville Homemakers Club and Graysville Grange.
    Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Glenn (Mildred) Fliehman of Woodsfield, Mrs. John (Jean) Price of Jacksonville, Florida and Mrs. L. K. (Freda) Walker of Canyon Lake, Texas; a stepson, Eugene Turner of Marietta, Ohio; a nephew, Warren Eikleberry  of Graysville; several nieces and nephews; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren.

S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Woodsfield United Methodist Church.
    Mr. Dennison was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Hunnell Dennison, in September 1988. Also deceased are two brothers and a sister.

Wednesday (August 10, 1994) at Guernsey Memorial Hospital.  He was born October 9, 1906, at Lewisville, Monroe County, Ohio, son of the late Gus and
Mary Kahrig Kilburn.   He retired as production foreman after 28 years of service with the Coca-Cola Co. and was a member of Chalfant s Chapel Methodist Church.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Valentine Kilburn, on February 2, 1979. They  were married June 1, 1927. Also deceased are a daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Hayes, and two sisters, Estella Christman and Lydia Claus.
    Mrs. Kilburn leaves three daughters, Mrs. David (Donna) Campbell, Mrs. Alan (Pat) Rogers and Mrs. James (Nancy) English, all of Cambridge, Ohio; a

Shirley Feiock, nee Hallberg

    Shirley Elaine Hallberg Feiock, age 73, of 3591 Smith-Kramer Road, N. E., Hartville, died Thursday afternoon, August 18, 1994, in her residence.  A Hartville resident for the past 23 years, she was formerly of Alliance, and was a 1938 graduate of Traverse City High School in Michigan. She was currently a member of Meadowlake Golf club. She was a former member of Hartville  Garden Club and Welcome Wagon. She was an Army veteran of World War II and was among the first group of women to serve overseas. She served in the Mediterranean Theater and was a recipient of the Bronze Star for exceptionally Meritorious Service.
    Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Charles E. Feiock III; two brothers, Gerald Hallberg of Midland, Michigan and John Hallberg of Royal Oak, Michigan.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Florence Clement Hallberg.
    Graveside services were held August 22 at 1 p.m. in Friendship Cemetery, Lewisville, Ohio. Calling hours were at the Arnold Funeral Home in Hartville.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Pagasus Farm or the Stark County Humane Society. 

Miss Lyria A. DeVoe

    Lyria A. DeVoe, 101, of Bradenton, Florida died November 27, 1994 in Blake Hospital. She was born August 8, 1893 on a farm near Lewisville, Ohio. She was the daughter of Allen E. and Margaret Ann Butt DeVoe, and lived the most of her life in the Lewisville community. She was a member of Lewisville United Methodist Church, and a 35 year member of Woodsfield Chapter 268 Order of the Eastern Star and former member of Lewisville Council.
    Surviving are a niece, Shirley DeVoe and a sister-in-law, Mary L. DeVoe, both of Bradenton, Florida, two cousins, Zelma Butt Myers of Akron, Ohio and Alice DeVoe Ables of Jeromesville; and a host of younger DeVoe relatives and friends.
    Friends and family were received and services were held on November 30 at Shannon Funeral Home, Bradenton, Florida. The Reverend Leslie McRae officiated. James Frank McHugh

    James Frank McHugh, 105, of Route 1 , New Matamoras, Ohio, died Thursday evening October 13, 1994, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.  He was born June 16, 1889 in Monroe County, near Graysville, Ohio, a son of the late Lewis and Maggie Swallow McHugh. He was the oldest living person in Washington and Monroe County.  He attended Elliott Business School in Wheeling in his younger days. During his lifetime he was self-employed and engaged in various occupations including farming, construction work, timber work, and as a truck driver. He contributed his longevity to hard work. He was driving truck after he was in his nineties. He was also a township clerk and a school board member for many years. He was interested and took an active part in community activities, as
long as health permitted. He  helped organize and was a charter member of Jolly Grange in Brownsville. He was honored in 1993 by County and local granges as the oldest granger in Ohio. He was a member of the Greenbrier United Methodist Church.
    He is survived by six children, Helen Drake and husband, Carl of Marietta, Ohio; Ruby Bauman of Columbus; Beryl Poulton and husband Ralph of Columbus; Margie Olson and husband Ivan of Durham, North Carolina; Mildred McHugh of the home; Frank McHugh of the home; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; one niece, Lucille Lovett Riley of Mesa, Arizona.
    He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Ina Waife Cline McHugh on January 16, 1970.

Miller, Mary Louise, 70, died Thursday, October 13, 1994 at home. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, Weirton, WV.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry Beatty, her second husband, Kenneth Miller; her parents Leonard and Amanda Bumgardner Lendon.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Joyce) Wallace of Weirton; a sister, Alvaretta Luyster of St. Clairsville; two grandchildren, Mrs. Roy (Latricia) Alboszta of Weirton and Robert Wallace II of Glen Dale; three great-grandchildren.

He was born Feb. 22, 1934 in Monroe County, a son of the late Lloyd and Versa Brown Leach. He was assistant superintendent for Hi-Way Paving Inc., Hilliard.

Mr. Leach leaves his wife, Barbara Powell Leach; a son Darrell of Summerfield; three daughters, Mrs. James (Darla) Wehr of Bethesda and Donna Jean Leach and Danielle Leach both of the home; two brothers, Russell and Charles Dale Leach of Jerusalem; two sisters, Mrs. Leah Carpenter of Summerfield and Mrs. Shelley Burkhart of Quaker City; and six grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Wednesday at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, Barnesville, where services will be held at 1 P.M. Thursday with the Rev. Don Arbuckle.

Gladys Eileen Jones, Lytton 62, of 904 W. Bennett St., Bridgeport, died January 28, 1994 in Wheeling Hospital. She was born to Homer & Ruth Jones on September 13, 1931 in Sardis.

She was a retired clerk-cashier of the former Brookside IGA and the Bridgeport Giant Eagle, and a member of the Chruch of Christ, Wheeling.

She is survived by a son, Charles E. of Brookside; three daughters, Sally J. Lytton of Shadyside, Jennifer L. Lytton of Bridgeport and Anne E. Vrotsos of Brookside; her father, Homer Jones of Sardis; two sisters, Hazel Barker and Dorothy Bayes, both of Sardis; four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death b y her husband, Edwin C. on November 18, 1984; her mother Ruth Lallathin Jones; two brothers, Carl & Jimmy.

Friends were received January 30 and 31 at Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Road, Brookside, where services were held at 11 a.m. February 1. Burial followed in Belmont Memorial park, St. Clairsville, OH.

He was born oct 20, 1911 at Calais, a son of the late Eugene and Bernice Brown Hogue. He was a retired union carpenter, with forty years of service in the Akron area. Surviving are his wife, Edith Hamilton Hogue; two step-daughters, Evaleen Pulvermacher of Akron and Betty Baudas of Canton; a sister Blanche Wright of Antiock, Tenn; five step-grand-children, and four step great grandchildren. Friends were received Nov 30 at Bauer-Turner Funeral  Home,  Woosdsfield. Services were held Dec 1, with Rev Lynda Masters officiating. Interment in Otts cemetery near Woodsfield.

Smittle, Paul R. Smittle 83 of NE Canton, Oh. formerly of Sardis, died Feb. 6, 1994 at the home of his son, Bob Smittle in Canton. He was born at Narrows Run, near Sardis, on June 10, 1910, a son of the late Addie Smittle. He was a retired lockman for the Army Corp of Engineers, a member of the Zanesville U.M. Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 597, Clarington. He was also a veteran of WW11 with the U.S. Air Force.

He is survived by 1 son, Bob P. Smittle and his wife, Joyce g. Smittle of Canton; 1 granddaughter, Sherry Van Camp of Sardis; 2 great-granchildren, Kathryn Van Camp & Jennifer Van Camp, both of Sardis; 1 step-son, Robert Watters & his wife, Louise of Zanesville; 1 step-daughter, Doris E. McKitrick and her husband, Chick of Marietta; a special friend, Dorothy Offenbaker of Zanesville; several step-grandchildren & step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Niemann Smittle; 1 son James G. Smittle; his second wife, Daisy M. Watters Smittle; 3 brothers, Russell, Bill and Larry Smittle.

Friends were received at the Rush funeral Home, Sardis from 7-9 p.m. Feb. 8, where funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Feb. 9, with Rev. Frank Conley officiating. Burial was in the Sardis Cemetery, Sardis.

 

Richard Arthur Eugene Piatt

Piatt, 55, of Ashland, died Tuesday, April 5, 1994. He was born May 29, 1938 son of the late Lorenzo and Pearl W. Hissom Piatt. He worked for several, years at F. E. Myers. Besides his wife, Linda Sue Hensel Piatt, whom he married on June 14, 1963, he is survived by a daughter, Marlene L.; two sons, Francis Eugene and Richard Wayne; two daughters-in-law, Virginia Kay and Tammy Lynn; two granddaughters, Jessica Kay and Mackenize May; one grandson, Bryan Thomas, all of Ashland; one brother, Paul F. Piatt of Dent Ridge Rd., Woodsfield; one half- brother, Archie Piatt of Lewisville; two half sisters, Dorothy Mae Crossley of New Concord and Mary Jane Nalley of Nalley Road, Woodsfield; a sister-in-law, Garnet Piatt of, Dent,. Ridge Rd., Woodsfield; a mother-in- law, Bertha Cline and families of New Matamoras; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three half brothers, Clarence Monroe Piatt, 1918, John Franklin Piatt, 1987 and Charles Robert Piatt, killed in WWII on Luzon Island, 1945; a half sister, Clara Ellen Briggs, 1987.

Funeral services were held at Heyl Funeral Home in Ashland on April 9. Interment was in Imhoff Cemetery with military graveside services.

SUMMERFIELD---Susan Butler, 87, of Caldwell, formerly of Calais, died at 10:07 P.M. Sunday (Jan. 30, 1994) at Guernsey Memorial Hospital. She was born Nov. 30, 1906, near Calais, daughter of the late Daniel and Carrie Belle Hutchinson Hayes.

She was a member of Caldwell Church of Christ and Caldwell Senior

Citizens.

Mrs. Butler was preceded in death by her first husband, John Miles Hannahs, her second husband, Ernest Butler, a sister, Grace Clause, three brothers, Truman, Allen and Irvin Hayes and two grandchildren.

She leaves two daughters, Frances Stoner of Akron and Velma Haga of Belle Valley; two sons, Austin Hannahs of Sarahsville and Emerson Hannahs of Zanesville; two sisters, Nellie Keylor and Mrs. Durel (Edna) Truax, both of Caldwell; a brother, David Hayes of Quaker City; 15 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Tuesday at Brubach-Watters Funeral Home, where services will be Wednesday at 1 P.M. with Evangelist Robert Vincent officiating. Burial will be in Calais Cemetery.

Irene Belle Cox, 95, of 711 Hall St., Owensboro, died Friday, Jan. 14, 1994, at Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital. She was born in Beaver Dam, the daughter of the late James Monroe and Martha Conley Hudson. She was a member of Breckenridge Street United Methodist Church, where she taught the Children's Sunday School Class for 40 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and was formerly active at the former Gospel Mission, now the Boulware Center. Her husband, George Cox, died in 1976. She was also preceded in death by five sons, Cletus Earl Cox, William M. Cox, Paul M. Cox, Robert L. Cox and Charles Cox; and by a daughter, Shirley Jean Cox.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs Ervin (Georgia) Dantic, Mrs. Wilbur (Evelyn) Duncan and Clara Alexander, all of Owensboro and Mrs. Charles (Doris) Bennett of Leitchfield; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Breckenridge Street United Methodist Church. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Owensboro. Visitation from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home, Owensboro. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Memorial Fund of Breckenridge Street United Methodist Church. Surviving, in addition to his parents of Quaker City, are his wife, Carla Masters Morris of the home; one son, Justin Morris of the home; three brothers, Charles Morris and Dale Morris, both of Quaker City and William Morris of Cambridge; two sisters, Mrs. James (Louise) Sarchet of Old Washington and Mrs. Robert (Brenda) Speicher of Hendrysburg; his grandmother Wilda Bennington of Lore City; several nieces and nephews.

Burkhart of Athens, GA.; sister-in-law, Barbara Fedorchak of Merrillville, IN; several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Fedorchak.

    Mrs. Fedorachak was a retired secretary for the United Steelworkers of America, Local #3657 and a former member of The First Presbyterian Church in Gary, In. Mrs. Fedorchak was also a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, The Ohio Genealogical Society, the Monroe County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society.
   This fall The Monroe County Genealogical Chapter awarded Mrs. Fedorchak with a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of all the work that she has done over the past several decades collecting and preserving genalogical records for southeastern , Ohio.

Age 87. Dearly beloved husband of Lucille Hansen, happy and fulfilling marriage for almost 60 years. Cherished father of Don Hansen and Sherry Adams; beloved father-in-law of Carol Hansen and John Adams. Loving grandfather of Connie and Steve Muth and Wendy and Ron Pallan, Kelly and Ron Downs, Kathy and Bob Burtwell and Tracy and Roy Freitas. Great grandfather of six. Retired after 43 years with Pacific Bell. Member of Telephone Pioneers, he was a past master and a 50 year member in Masonic Lodge #57. Also a 50 year membership in Rose Valley Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. Les greatly enjoyed woodworking and among some of his projects were making furniture, totem poles, and cradles for the Welfare League. He was a devoted and caring family man and will be greatly missed.

According to his wishes, no services will be held. There will be a private family gathering at a later date. Contributions may be made to your favorite charity.

She was born May 23, 1906 in Monroe County, Ohio a daughter of the late Henry and Caroline Nalley Bonam. She was a member of the Greenbriar Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo Cline, 1982 one son, Robert Cline and one daughter Maryland Cline and two brothers, Donald and Clarence Bonam.

She is survived by one son, Emmitt Cline, Beloit, Ohio two daughters Madelyn Weddle, Woodsfield, Ohio and Waneta Mathews, New Matamoras, Ohio, one brother Charles Bonam Wooster ,Ohio one sister Grace Hooper, Woodsfield, Ohio 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

Friends were received Sunday, November 27, 1994 at the Bauer and Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield where services were held Monday November 28th with Mike Jones officiating. Interment was in the Plainview Cemetery near Woodsfield

     Mr. Matz was born November 16, 1956, in Ashland and lived in the area all his life. He was a 1974 graduate of Mapleton High School and was employed as lead person with the A.L. Garber Company for 10 years. He was a member of the Ashland Moose Lodge 1383.
     Mr. Matz is survived by his wife, Lynn M. Gibson Matz, whom he married June 28, 1989; a daughter; Stephanie L. Matz of Mansfield; and three sons, Jeremy L., Robert D., and Cody R. Matz, all of Mansfield; his mother Florence JoAnn Miller Matz of Polk; and two brothers, Rockey L. Matz of Red Haw and Ronald L. Matz of Ashland.
     He was preceded in death by his father Clyde J. Matz, on January 31, 1993.
     Calling hours will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Denbow-Primm Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Daniel Loomis.

He was born March 30, 1914, in Monroe County to Lewis P. and Ida Paulus Christman. He was the former owner of Christman Supply Co. in Woodsfield and was a member of St. Pauls's United Church of Christ in Woodsfield.

Mr. Christman is survived by his wife, Dorothy Beardmore Christman; three sons, Charles E., Paul Roger and Mark, all of Woodsfield; three daughters, Hazel Petty of Woodsfield, Betty Taylor of Loudonville and Mary Hartline of Cameron; two brothers, Clayton of Woodsfield and John of Akron; one sister, Freda Hamilton of Follansbee, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Nova A. Christman and Walter L. Christman.

Services are 1 p.m. tomorrow at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home in Woodsfield. Burial is in Oaklawn Cemetery at Woodsfield. Friends will be received from 3:30 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

    He was a retired employee of the former Strickling Vault Company, Woodsfield. He was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, Lewisville and also the Trinity United Church of Christ Men's Brotherhood.
    He is survived by four sons, Ralph Kilburn, of Marana, Arizona, Harold Kilburn, Donald Kilburn, and Dale Kilburn all of Lewisville; one sister, Sylvia Armstrong, of Beloit; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Grace Todd Kilburn in 1982, a grandson, Randal Kilburn; one brother, William Kilburn and two sisters, Estella Christman and Lydia Claus.

    He was a retired carpenter and farmer, and a member of St. Paul s United Church of Christ, Woodsfield. He was also a member of the Carpenter s Union Local 3, Wheeling and was a U. S. Army Veteran.
    Surviving are his wife, Betty McConnell Freitag, whom he married on November 11, 1950; three daughters, Mrs. Willard (Linda) McConnell, Mrs. Darrell (Debbie) Craig, both of Woodsfield and Mrs. David (Teresa) Walker of Columbus, Ohio; one son, Ronald Freitag of Flagstaff, Arizona; two sisters, Mrs. James (Hazel) Hines of Barnesville and Elizabeth Longfellow of Strasburg; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Howard Freitag; one infant brother, Paul Roger Freitag; and one grandson, Bruce McConnell.

    He was born September 29, 1909, at Graysville, Ohio, son of the late Wilbert and Mary Louise Rubel Goodhart.
    Mr. Goodhart was a former owner/operator of a grocery store in Cambridge and a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Robert T. Secrease Memorial VFW Post 84, and Disabled American Veterans, all of Cambridge.
    He leaves several cousins including Mary Christman of Columbus.

    Joseph S. Brubach, 81, died July 12, 1995, at Timken Mercy Hospital. He was born in Lewisville, Ohio on September 5, 1913. He had lived in Akron for many years before moving to Jackson Township five years ago, where he resided
with his eldest son and family.
    He was a veteran having served in the U. S. Army during World War II in Europe. He was a retired salesman for Superior, Independent and McKesson Drug companies.
    Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Joan, Bruce and Beverly, Joe and Sandi; a daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Bill Horner; nine grandchildren, Kerry Scott, Dawn, Kristin, Greg, Bart, Holly, Christa, and Lindsay and also a great-granddaughter, Evan.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, in 1983, after 45 years of marriage.

    She was the former auditor of Monroe County, Ohio, a retired employee of the Monroe County Department of Human Services, a member of the St. Paul Women s Guild, former board member and executive director of the Monroe County
Cancer Unit for more than 30 years, past president of Rebekah Lodge, member of VFW Auxiliary 5303 and a charter member of the Woodsfield Business and Professional Women s Organization.
    Surviving are one brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Dorothy Matz, Chillicothe; five nephews, William E., Roger A., James F. and Marvin M. Matz and Thomas Hickinbotham; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Herzel (Freda) Matz of Murray, Kentucky; four nieces, Jean Rice, Mary Grace Stewart, Marta Kay Dale and Peggy Lynn Browne.

Harry Earl Huntsman,85, Rt.1, Toronto, died Fri. July 28,1995 at St. John's medical center, Steubenville. He was born March 02, 1910 in Boston, Oh., son of the late Allen and Melissa Jane Davis Huntsman.

He was a retired employee of Nelson Tree Service, Dayton, and a member of Toronto Post 6906.

Mary Elizabeth Lendon, 89, Boardman St., Bethesda, died Thurs., Oct. 26, 1995 at Barnesville Hospital. She was born in Martins Ferry, Sept. 27, 1906, daughter of the late Clarence and Ivy Mae Anderson Urwin.

She was a member of Morristown Methodist Church, former Sunday school teacher, member of United Methodist women, and former 4-h advisor in Morristown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Fisk Lendon, Sr.; two daughters, Gertrude and Della May; a stepdaughter, Lela Rossini, and three stepbrothers.

Surviving are three sons, Wilbur F. Lendon of Dresden, James Lendon of Canfield, and George Lendon of Bethesda; three daughters, Mrs. Dorthea Zupan of Millersburg Heights, Mrs. Jessie Smyth of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Marte and Marte (Martha) of Bethesda; two stepsons, Leslie Lendon of Dennison and Earl Lendon of fort pierce, fla; a stepdaughter, Helen Stewart of Carrolton; two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Hartfile of Lima and Mrs. Margaret Tucker of Miami, Fla.; two stepsisters, Mrs. Mae Oktabetz of Bellaire and Mrs. Clara Kotopka of Colerain; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and several step grandchildren.

Lester P. Kuhn, age 83, of Louisville, passed away on the evening of September 21, 1995, following a lengthy illness. Lester was born May 28, 1912, in Kuhn, Ohio, the son of the late John N. Kuhn and Mary (Burkhart) Kuhn. He was a member of St. Louis Church and a former quality control inspector for the Babcock & Wilcox co., retiring in 1976. Lester was a member of the Lake P NA Sportsman Club and an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener.

Survivors include his wife, Helen (Schott) of the home, two sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Linda Kuhn of Middleburg Heights and Bob and Pam Kuhn of N. Canton; a sister, Anita Crum of Caldwell; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister Gertrude, and three brothers, Cornelius, Arthur, and James.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Louis Catholic Church in Louisville with Rev. Father Frederick Slaven officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Friends called Sunday evening at the Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home in Louisville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.

 

Gail Lowry nee Stalling

Gail Lowry, 79, of Wintergreen Road near Old Washington, died Tuesday (Jan. 31, 1995) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.  She was born April 4, 1915, near Salesville, daughter of the late Cylde and Blance Danford Stallings. She was a former employee of A&P, RCA, Lakes Market and Bargain City.  She was a member of Old Washington Presbyterian Church.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Guy Arthur Lowry, in 1977.  She leaves a son and daughter-in-law, William G. and Jean Lowry of Old Washington; a sister, Mrs. Foster (Ildreth) Hayes of Old Washington; three grandchildren, Timothy, Steven and Gregory Lowry, all of Old Washington; and four great grandchildren, Kimmy, Zachary, James and Raine Lowry, all of Old Washington.

Pleasant, Mich., and a pumper for Fayette Drilling at Hillsdale, Mich.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, attended Salesville United Methodist Church, and a member of Barnesville VFW Post 2792 and Eagles Aerie 386, Cambridge

Ellis Stallings

Jonesville, Mich. - Ellis Stallings, 76, of Brown Rd., Jonesville, Mich., died Wednesday (Sept. 27, 1995) at the Ann Arbor Venterans Administration Hospital.  He was born Jan. 21, 1919, in Salesville, son of the late Grover and Dulcie Danford Stallings.  He retired in 1985 from C. A. Perry Oil Field, and had formerly worked the oil fields in northern Michigan.  He was a veteran with the U. S. Army infantry during World War II.  He attended Moscows Plains United Methodist Church and was a member of Quincy American Legion Lodge 157 and Hanover-Horton Post 1155 VFW. 

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenna Terwilliger, in 1987; and a brother, Lester in February 1995.  Mr. Stallings leaves his wife, Betty Campbell Stallings, whom he married Sept. 18, 1945; three daughters, Darlayne Nead of Castro Valley, Calif., Denise Christy of Jonesville and Diane McLaren of Brookston, Ind.; a son, William of Jonesville; and seven grandchildren.

Cecil Mervin Kinney

WESALCO, Tex. ---- Cecil Mervin Kinney, 73, 1501 S. Airport Drive, Lot 224, Wesalco, Texas, formerly of Apple Creek, died Friday morning, Aug. 25 [submitter's note: 1995] at Wooster Community Hospital.

Memorial services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at McIntire, Davis and Greene Funeral Home with the Rev. William Valentine officiating. The body has been cremated. There will be no calling hours and the family requests that there be no flowers.

He was born in 1922 in Graysville to Homer and Lizzie (Allen) Kinney and married Phyllis Dillon on July 10, 1946. She survives. He had graduated from Graysville High School and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He had owned and operated the former Kinney Gulf Service in Wooster. He had also worked as an engineer at the Apple Creek Developmental

Center and as a stationary engineer at the V.A. Hospital at Brecksville. In 1965, he transferred to the V.A. Hospital at Wood, Wis. where he retired in 1984. He was a member of the Southern Baptist Church in Texas.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Vicky Meyer of Milwaukee, Wis.; two grandsons; and two brothers, Forrest "Wempy" of Burbank and Harry "Cap" of Lodi; and a sister, Ethel Frank of Woodsfield. [Submitter's note: a picture of Cecil Kinney accompanies this article.]

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK---Word had been received of the death of Carmen Leach 55, of Midwest City, OK., who died Friday (Jan. 6, 1995) at Midwest City Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born Sept. 5, 1939 at Oklahoma City, daughter of the late Walter E. and Dorthothy Louise Carr. She was a bartender for the Midwest City American Legion.

Mrs. Leach leaves her husband, Robert Leach; a son John Leach of Piedmont; a daughter, Robin Leach, and a brother, Dean Carr, both of Oklahoma City.

Herbert D. "Bert" Neuhart, 95, of Red Carpet Health Care Center, formerly of Old Washington, died 11:43 P.M. Wednesday (March 8, 1995) at South Eastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.

He was born March 10, 1899, in Monroe County, near Calais, son of the late J. Willis and Emma Cline Neuhart. He was a retired farmer and race horse trainer, a Methodist by faith and a member of the U.S. Trotting Association.

Mr. Neuhart was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Carpenter Neuhart, They were married Aug. 20, 1920. Also deceased are a son, Kenneth Neuhart, four brothers, three sisters, two granddaughters and two great-granddaughters.

He leaves three daughters, Mrs. Oscar (Helen) Baker of Freeport, Marjorie Kuhnash of Quaker City and Mrs. Bill (Patsy) Lafferty of Newcomerstown; two sons, Earl Neuhart of Quaker City and Jackie Neuhart of Old Washington; 24 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Devoe was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil J. Devoe, on Jan. 5, 1988.

She is survived by her husband, whom she married April 7, 1954, Freeman Morris; three daughters, Ethel Morris and Missy Morris both of Woodsfield; and Jeannie Rodgers of Massillion; three brothers, Walter Belford of Florida, Sam Belford of Massillion and William "Bill" Belford of Alliance; one sister, Vera Hubbard of Alliance, one half-sister, Betty Edwards of New Matamoras; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Ralph E. Neuhart, 84, of Creston Rd., Cambridge, died at 9:30 P.M. Sunday (Dec. 3, 1995) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 28, 1911, in Batesville, son of the late Forest A. and Hazel Mercer Neuhart. He graduated from Batesville High School and attended aviation school at Lincoln Naval Base. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II as a gunner on a bomber for almost three years. He worked in Pittsburgh, Pa., and came to Cambridge, where he and Ralph Loader opened the former Autoport Inc., Clark Street (where Orme Hardware is now located) of which he was co-owner and operator.

He was a member of the Ninth Street United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge 448 of Cambridge, Guernsey Lodge 632 F&AM and the Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister. Mr. Neuhart leaves his wife, Zelma E. Mummey Neuhart, whom he married 21 Nov. 1936; a sister, Mrs. Hubert (Marie) Morris of Canton; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Irene Neuhart of Batesville; and several nieces and nephews, including Denise Neuhart of Cambridge.

William "Harold" Hensel

William "Harold" Hensel, 81, of River Park Manor, New Matamoras, died Oct. 15, 1995, at Louis Johnson VA Medical Center, Clarksburg. He was born in Monroe County, a son of the late George and Mary Stacy Hensel. He was a 1933 graduate of Matamoras High School, had attended Great Lakes Metalsmith School and was a U.S. Navy-veteran of World war II. He was a member of VFW Post 6387, Jolly Grange Matamoras Senior Citizens, and Matomoras Church of Christ. He was a former member and elder of Brownsville Church of Christ.

Surviving are his wife, Marie C. Dye Hensel; one son, Gene Hensel of New Matamoras; three grandsons; one brother, Henry Hensel of New Matamoras; and one sister, Bertha Cline of New Matamoras.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Goldie Graham; two brothers, Ralph Hensel and Delbert Hensel; and two grandchildren.

Services were 11 a.m. Oct. 18, Hadley Funeral Home, New Matamoras. Burial Unity Cemetery, with military rites.

Eddy, Kenneth, 73, Belmont, died January 12, 1995 in Barnesville Hospital. He was born December 3,1921 at Bellaire, son of the late Herbert and Lurie Arter Eddy. He was a retired employee of both the B.& O. Railroad and the Belmont Hills Country Club, and was a Methodist by faith.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Woodrow and William Eddy. Surviving are his wife, Frances Berberich Eddy; three daughters, Sharon Habig of Bethesda, Karen Sue Woods and Debbie Moore, both of Belmont; two brothers, Charles of Bannock and Clarence of Atlanta, Georgia; one sister, Lucille Myers of Martins Ferry; five grandchildren.

Friends were received at Beck Funeral Home, St. Clairsville on Friday, where services were held Saturday afternoon. Burial was made in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.

 

Clarence Oldemeyer

Clarence Oldemeyer, 97, dies.

Clarence Oldemeyer, 97, former Brush resident, died Thursday at Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs.

Oldemeyer was born March 20, 1898 on a farm near Brush to Hein and Margaret Oldemeyer and spent most of his life in the area, moving to Colorado Springs in 1988 to live with his daughter.

He attended Colorado A&M College in Fort Collins and left to serve in the U.S. Army during WWI. After the war, he returned to college where he received his B.S. degree in animal husbandry in 1919. During college, Oldemeyer was a charter member of Sigma Chi and a member of Alpha Zeta, an honorary agricultural fraternity.

On Feb. 7, 1921, he married Gayle King in Fort Collins and that year they moved back to Brush to begin their married life on the farm west of Brush.

While living in Brush, Oldemeyer was very active in the community. He and his wife were active members of Rankin Presbyterian Church. He also served on the Re-2J School Board for 18 years, was on the board of the Rural Fire Protection District, several ditch water companies and crop growers organizations. He was a member of the American Legion Sagebrush Post, the Last Squad of the American Legion, Brush Masonic Lodge AF and AM #123, and the Order of the Eastern Star #93.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Harold (Beverly) Decker of Colorado Springs; two sons, Dr. Robert Oldemeyer, Longmont and Dr. Donald Oldemeyer of Nyssa, Ore.; 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gayle, who died April 19, 1978, his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Rankin Presbyterian Church, 420 Clayton St., Brush. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Heer Mortuary of Brush is in charge of arrangements.

Grace M. Hooper nee Bonam

Grace M. Hooper, 85, of 507 High Street, Woodsfield died July 2, 1995 at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg. She was born in Antioch May 1, 1910 a daughter of the late Henry and Caroline Nalley Bonam. She was a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ.

Survivors are one son Chester Hooper of Woodsfield; one brother Charles Bonam of Wooster; four grandsons, Stephen Hooper of Woodsfield ,Danny Hooper of Lewisville, Bruce Hooper of Columbus and Terry Hooper of Marietta, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dorsey Hooper in 1972 two brothers Clarence Bonam and Donald Bonam and one sister Mary Cline and one daughter in law Burnice Hooper. Friends were received July 4 at Bauer and Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield where services were held July 5 with Min. Harry Summers officiating. Interment was in the Antioch Cemetery, Antioch.

 

Carol Ann Staley nee Ice

Carol Ann Staley, 51, of Chiselfinger Ridge, New Martinsville, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, at home after a battle with cancer. She was born in Wheeling Aug. 14, 1943, a daughter of Ruth (Ice) Cain and the late Ray Ice. She was a member of the first graduating class from Valley High School, Pine Grove, in 1961, a member of the Chapel of Victory Church, Pine Grove and was involved in many church activities throughout the years.

Surviving are her husband, Jerome E. "Jerry" Staley; four children, Mrs. Mike (Kimberly) Latimer, Mrs. John (Julia) Hohman, Mrs. Arza (Carla) Bennett and Jerome Staley II; nine grandchildren, Rob, Alana, Lindsay, Alisha, Alex, Ashley, Brooke, Krista and Miranda; her mother, Dale (Ruth) Cain; two sisters, Mrs. Duke (Loretta) Hoit and Mrs. Roland (Genevieve) Noland; two stepsisters, Mrs. Joe (Joy) Aldridge and Mrs. Joe (Marybeth) Henthorn; two brothers, Ray Ice and Norman Ice; 26 nieces and nephews.

Friends were received on Thursday from 3-9 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home, Pine Grove, where services were held at 1 p.m. Friday. Interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park, New Martinsville. The family would like to thank the many friends who cared so deeply and helped so much during this difficult time.

 

Leslie C. Staley

Leslie C. Staley, 95, of Middlebourne, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, in the New Martinsville Health Care Center. He was born April 30, 1900, in Porters Falls. He was a retired construction worker and a farmer. He was a member of the Elk Fork Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jefferson and Elizabeth Thomas Staley; his wife, Vashti Fluharty Staley; two sons, Jeff and Richard Staley; one daughter, Jean Fetty; one grandson, Terry Lee Lancaster.

Surviving are two sons, Karl of Reader and Robert of Middlebourne; one daughter, Wanda Lancaster of Porters Falls; 11 grandchildren; one step-granddaughter, 19 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

Friends were received at Iams Funeral Home, New Martinsville, where services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, with Evan. Paul Casebolt officiating. Interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park, New Martinsville.

 

Oma L. Stalder

Oma L. Stalder, 105, 37129 Muskingum Street, Sardis died Sunday, May 28, 1995 in the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Woodsfield. She was born March 2, 1890 at Sardis, a daughter of the late Rudolph and Eliza Hossman Stalder.

She was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ, Sardis.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Edward Stalder and a sister Clara Bachman.

Surviving are a niece Mrs. Lester (Clara) Clay of Canton and several grand nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Rush Funeral Home, 37234 Mound Street, Sardis today 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where services will be held Wednesday, May 31, 1995 at 2 p.m with the Rev. William Hibbs in charge.

Burial will follow in Salem Church Cemetery, Sardis.

 

Hilda E. Coplan nee Kenney

Hilda E. Coplan, 67, of 44404, twp 363, Woodsfield, died Nov. 11, 1995 at the Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling. She was born in Monroe Co. Aug.11, 1928, a daughter of the late Francis M. and Cora Gill-Kenney. She was a member of the Goudy Church of Christ, Woodsfield.

She is survived by her husband, William Coplan, Woodsfield; one son, Mark Coplan, Woodsfield; one daughter, Carol Coplan, Woodsfield; one brother, Lester Kenney, Ambridge, Pa.; three sisters, Pearl Bliske, Helen Kramer, both of Wheeling, and Lucille Reinbau, Ambridge, Pa.; two grandchildren, Lisa Childs and Danielle Coplan; two great-grandchildren, Ben and Tiffany Childs.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Gertrude Wavra and Augusta Smoot.

Friends were received Nov. 14 at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield. Services were held at 1 p.m., Nov. 15, with Glen Harris officiating. Interment in the Goudy Cemetery near Woodsfield.

 

Paulus, Grace O. Paulus, nee Fisher

Grace O. Paulus, age 96, of Wooster, formerly of Moose Ridge Road, Woodsfield, died Dec. 2, 1995 at Wooster. She was born in Monroe County, Ohio, Sept. 7, 1899, a daughter of the late Marion Fisher and Elizabeth Buchanan Fisher. She was a member of the St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Woodsfield.

She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Dillon, Wooster; one daughter-in-law, Mary Paulus, Wooster; five grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Samuel Paulus; one son, Francis E. Paulus; one brother, Elmer Merle Fisher and two sisters, Ethel Fisher, and Margaret Carpenter.

Friends were received Dec. 5 at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, where services were held Dec. 6, with Pastor Donald Rock officiating. Interment in the Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.

 

Kress, Karl F. Kress

Karl F. Kress, 81, of St. Clairsville, formerly of Maple Avenue, Woodsfield, died early Oct. 23, 1995, at the Park Health Center, St. Clairsville. He was born in Sistersville on March 30, 1914, a son of the late Frederick and Margaret Bosold Kress.

He was the owner of the former Karl Kress Motors, Inc., Woodsfield. He was a member of the St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield and a former member of the Woodsfield Lions Club.

Surviving are three sons, David of Bethlehem, Penn., Philip and Richard, both of St. Clairsville; two daughters, Louise Hughes of Woodsfield and Barbara Maybury of Westerville; two brothers, George of Woodsfield and Oscar of Twinsburg; three sisters, Florence Schumacher of Woodsfield, Edith Reischman of Miltonsburg and Alice Buckalew of Woodsfield; 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Paulus Kress on Nov. 4, 1968; one brother, Gilbert and one sister, Marie Cornett.

There was no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Oct. 25 with Father Virgil Reischman and Father James Dunfee officiating at the St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield. Interment was in the St. Sylvester Church Cemetery. Vigil Services were held Oct. 24 at the funeral home. Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield in charge of arrangements.
