Vernon Seebach

    Vernon Seebach, 46, Lewisville, Ohio, died Sunday, January 31, 1971, at Barnesville Hospital, Barnesville, Ohio. He had undergone surgery there last week.
    Born February 5, 1924, at Lewisville, he was a son of the late Herman and Myrtle Moffatt Seebach and was employed by Olin Matheison Corporation at Hannibal, Ohio. He was a 1943 graduate of Lewisville High School.
    Mr. Seebach leaves his wife, the former Louise Drum Craig; two daughters, Mrs. Melody Wilson of Summerfield and Laurie Ann of the home; five sons, Stephen, Charles, Carl, Paul and Glenn and two stepsons, Duane and Kevin Craig, all of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Lou Balluff, Gahanna, and Mrs. Fred  Rose, Canton, Ohio; four brothers, Elmer and Jerry of Woodsfield, Roger William of Lewisville, and Earl of Canton, and one grandson.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bauer and Turner Funeral Home here with Minister John Hendershot officiating. Burial will be in Friendship cemetery, Lewisville.

 

Homer R. Rich

Eberle Funeral Home here has charge of arrangements for Homer R Rich, 96 Quaker City, R.D. 1. Mr Rich died Saturday morning August 28, 1971 in Guernsey Memorial Hospital, Cambridge. He was born May 11, 1875 in Noble County, a son of the late William and Margaret Miley Rich.  His wife, Alice Rich died July 22, 1954.

Mr Rich leaves one daughter, Mrs Ellis (Audry) Long, Quaker City, R.D. 1,; one son William Rich, Senecaville R.D. 1, and 10 grandchildren.

 

Richard F. Bates

Richard F. Bates , 45, of Hollywood, Florida, former Woodsfield resident, died Monday, December 28, 1970, in Hollywood.
He was born  May 11, 1925 , in Woodsfield, a son of George D. Bates, of Woodsfield, and the late Rosella Crock Bates.

Surviving in addition to his father are his stepmother, Mrs. Flavil Gatten Bates;  three daughters, Mrs. Ed Steele, of Seville;  Mrs. Gary Gray, of Bridgeport, and Mrs. Ronald Yost, of Sistersville, W.Va.; four grandchildren;  three sisters, Mrs. Esther Park of Toledo, and Mrs. Jane Russell, of Wheeling, W.Va.,  Mrs. Martha Highman, of Ashland;  three brothers, Robert Bates, of Ashland;  William Bates, of Polk, and George Bates, of  Woodsfield, Route 3, and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Thursday afternoon, December 31st, at two o'clock in The Bauer and Turner Funeral Chapel with Minister J. V. A.  Traylor officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield, Ohio.

 

Carrie Mercer - nee Maurer

Carrie Maurer,* born in Paris, Ohio Nov. 18, 1880, died March 3, 1971 at her home following a 13 year illness. She was a member of the Israel United Church of Christ of Paris. Survived by husband Samuel Mercer; three daughters, Mrs. Martha (Donald) Gram of Paris, Mrs. Eva (George) Speakman of Paris, and Mrs. Ester (Walter) Reed of Oneida, OH; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Burial at Liberty Cemetery.

James Hackathorn

James Hackathorn, son of Crawford & Lyde Griffith Hackathorn , age 70, passed away at home in Bergholz, OH, August 8, 1971 after a three month illness. He was a member of the Bergholz Church of Christ, the Senior Citizens Club and a retired coal miner.

Survived by his widow Margaret Mercer Hackathorn; two daughters, Mrs. John (June) VanAuker of North Jackson, OH, and Mrs. Charles (Genevieve) Cizman of Bergholz; one sister Mrs. Bertha Maston of Canton, OH; two grandchildren, Jenny Cizman of Bergholz, and Jeanie VanAuker of North Jackson, OH. Burial at Bergholz Cemetery.

 

Anna Smith nee Jones

Mrs. Anna Smith, 70, of Sardis, died suddenly at 6 o clock Friday evening, August 6, 1971, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Alice Myers, also of Sardis, with whom she was paying a brief visit. She had been in ill health.

She was born at Sardis, March 28, 191, a daughter of Joel and Martha Thomas Jones. Her husband, Frank Smith, died in May 1969.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Church of Christ in Sardis.

Surviving are one son, Claude Smith of Woodsfield; one sister, Mrs. Alice Myers, of Sardis; three brothers, Everett Jones of McMechen, WV; Orville Jones of Bridgeport and Homer Jones of Sardis, and two grandsons.

Brief services were held Monday afternoon at one o clock in the Rush Funeral Home at Sardis, with additional services at two o clock in the West Union Church of Christ, James Clegg officiated. Interment was in the church cemetery.

 

Raymond Lee Bowen

Bowen, Raymond Lee Bowen, 26, of 1036 Alton Darby Creek Road, Columbus, Ohio, died Saturday night, Sept. 18, 1971, from injuries received in a truck accident.

He was a son of Mrs. Cora Robinson Hendrickson, of Toledo, and the late Ray Bowen of Fly, Ohio.

Surviving are his wife, Susan, and a son, Raymond Lee, Jr., of the home in Columbus, and 2 aunts, Mrs. Blanche Lallathin, of Sardis, and Mrs. Louise Thomas, of Williamstown, West Virginia. Services were held in the Spears Chapel at Columbus on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Rev. Donald King officiating. Burial was in the Witten Cemetery at Fly, Ohio

 

Hillard Curtis Wehr

BARNESVILLE--Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home here has charge of arrangements for Hillard Curtis Wehr, 39, of Lincoln Ave., who was dead on arrival at 5:30 A.M. today (Tuesday) in Barnesville General Hospital of an apparent heart attack.

A veteran of the Korean Conflict and an employee of the YNO Coal Co., he was born Aug. 11, 1931 in Monroe County, a son of Mrs. Faye Carpenter Wehr and the late Hort Wehr.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Wehr leaves his wife, Betty Pack Wehr; one daughter, Vicki Jo and one son, Kenneth Wehr, both of the home; seven sisters, Mrs. Helma Stephens and Mrs. Beverly Legg, both of Hendrysburg; Mrs. Eva Mae Brown, Warren, Mrs. Bernice Moore, Mt. Olivet, Mrs. Norma Teters, Columbus, Mrs. Janet Miller, Barnesville and Mrs. Velma Newhart, Lewisville R. D.; seven brothers, Lawrence and Norma Wehr, both of Barnesville R. D. 4, William and Roger Wehr, both of Barnesville, Vernon Wehr of Bethesda R. D., Donald Wehr of Jerusalem R. D. and Freddie Wehr, Columbus.

 

William Garfield Drake

     William Garfield Drake, 90, resident of 207 Vine Street, Barnesville, died Tuesday morning, August 31, 1971, at 4:15 a.m. in Barnesville Hospital. He was born in Monroe County, January 15, 1881, a son of George and Nancy Edington Drake.

     He was a member of the East Main Street Church of Christ and a retired farmer.

     Surviving are his widow, Jennie Morris Drake; six sons, George and William, both of Bethesda, Charles and Raymond, both of Barnesville, Thurman, Indianapolis, Indiana, and Carl of Bradenton, Florida; eight daughters, Mrs. Margaret Huntsman, Redlands, California, Mrs. Lillian Huntsman, Columbus, Mrs. Florence Little, Plainfield, Mrs. Mary Hittle, Coshocton, Mrs. Edna Hayes, Leesburg, Florida, Mrs. Myrtle Hudson, Barnesville, Mrs. Betty Eikleberry, Streesboro and Mrs. Katherine Eikleberry, Ravenna; 48 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; one brother, Forest, in Oklahoma. Three sons, three brothers  and six sisters, all preceded him in death.

     Friends were received at the Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home, in Barnesville. Services at the funeral home were held Thursday at 1 p.m. with Evangelist James Gallagher officiating. Burial was in Crestview Cemetery, Barnesville, Ohio.

 

Arizona Morris nee Johnson

BARNESVILLE---Mrs. Arizona Morris, 77, of N. Arch St., Barnesville died at Barnesville Hospital at 12:30 A.M. today (June 5, 1971), shortly after she had been admitted.

Born in Monroe County, Jan. 12, 1894, she was a daughter of John and Lavina Carpenter Johnson. Her husband James Morris, died July 2, 1970, and a son, Roland, died in 1963. She leaves four daughters, Mrs. Robert (Elva) Hanlon, Mrs. Ralph (Iva) Froehlich, Mrs. James (Genevieve) Warrick and Mrs. Ronald (Betty Jane) Swallie, all of Barnesville; two sons, Johnson of Bethesda and James Jr., of Louisville; three sisters, Mrs. Louise Stephens, Mrs. Juanita Sayer, and Mrs. Nettie Taylor, all of Barnesville; two brothers, Talmadge Johnson, Barnesville and Allen Johnson, Summerfield; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at Campbell-Plumby Funeral Home here after 10:30 A.M. Sunday.

Funeral services will be held there at 1:30 P.M. Monday with Evang. Eugene Carroll officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Cemetery, Barnesville.

 

Goldie May Smith nee McCurdy

Funeral services for Mrs. Goldie May McCurdy Smith, 78, former resident of Marietta, were held in Columbus today with burial in Harmar Cemetery. Mrs. Smith died Monday in Columbus.

She was born in Marietta, a daughter of the late Douglas and Clara Bell McCurdy. She was married to Charles Smith who preceded her in death. One brother and three sisters survive, Walter McCurdy, Marietta, Mrs. Freda Meeks, Waverly, W. Va., Mrs. Geneva Rhodes of Thornton, Colo. and Mrs. Frances McCullick, Williamstown.

 

Paul W. Hannahs

NEWCOMERSTOWN---Funeral services for Paul W. Hannahs, 71, E. Canal St., will be held at 1 P.M. Tuesday at Ourant Funeral Home here. The Rev.Ralph Dennis will officiate and burial will follow in E. State St. Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 P.M.

Mr. Hannahs was a retired employee of Heller Tool Co, died at 4 A.M. Sunday (Oct. 24, 1971) at his home.

Born March 13, 1900 at Calais, he was a son of William A. and Mary C. Richeson Hannahs.

He leaves his wife the former, Mabel Fletcher, whom he married Oct. 11, 1922; two sons, Loren of Coshocton and Harold of Reynoldsburg; two sisters, Mrs. Lewis Fletcher, St. Petersburg, Fla. and Mrs. Mabel Tufford, Newcomerstown R.D.; three brothers, Elvin of Canton, Preston and Alva, both of Newcomerstown; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Two sons are deceased.

 

Chauncey W. Sellers

BARNESVILLE--Funeral services for Chauncey W. Sellers, 83, Quaker City R.D. 3, will be held at 1 P.M. Tuesday in Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home here with Evang. James Gallagher officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Hendrysburg. Friends may call at the funeral home today. Mr. Sellers died at 5:15 P.M. Saturday (May 18, 1974) in the S. 10th St. Unit of Guernsey Memorial Hospital.

A retired farmer, he was born March 1, 1891 in Monroe County the son of the late Corin and Marjorie Stephens Sellers. Mr. Sellers was a veteran of World War I. He leaves a sisters, Mrs. Ida Acton, and one brother, John Sellers, both of Barnesville.

 

Henthorn, Forrest Earl Henthorn

Henthorn, Forrest Earl, 66, of 256 East Eleventh Street, Ashland, Ohio, passed away Wednesday evening, December 1, 1971, at 9:04 o'clock, in Samaritan Hospital, Ashland, after a two years illness. He was born in Monroe County, August 16, 1905, the son of James and Lura Rinard Henthorn. Mr. Henthorn was employed at the Union Malleable Mfg. Co., forty-five years, retiring February 4, 1970. He was a veteran of World War II, and a member of the 20 Plus Club Union Malleable.

On June 6, 1951, he was married to Marjorie Pence, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter and one son, by a former marriage, Mrs. Frances Hart in Arizona, and Douglas, of the home; two grandchildren; one great grandson; and two brothers, Carl Henthorn and Ira Henthorn, of Ashland.

His parents, one brother and one son preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock in the Gilbert Funeral Chapel, at Ashland, with Rev. Paul Searcy, of the First Church of God, officiating. Burial was in Ashland County Memorial Park on State Route 250.

 

Donovan, Mae M. Donovan (nee--Matz)

     Mrs. Mae M. Donovan, age 73, of Crafton, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday morning, April 7, 1971, in Allegheny Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.
     She was born at Lewisville, May 26, 1898, the daughter of Phillip and Elizabeth Matz.
     Surviving are her husband, James Donovan; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Ashton of Phoenix, Arizona; three grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Freda Brubach, of Summerfield, and one brother, Clarence Matz, of Wooster.
     Two sisters are deceased.
     Funeral services were held Saturday morning, April 10th, at ten o'clock, in the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, at Crafton, Pa.  Burial was in Sunset View Memorial Park.

 

Angeline Morris (nee Carpenter)

BYESVILLE---Funeral services for Mrs. Angeline Carpenter Morris, 75, 204 E. Spruce St., Byesville, will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday at McGaughy Funeral Home here. The Rev. Kenneth Littlefield will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Morris died at 3:45 A.M. Wednesday (June 16, 1971) at Guernsey Memorial Hospital, Cambridge. She had been ill five weeks.

Born July 12, 1895, in Monroe County, she was the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Carpenter. Her husband, Harry, died in 1948.

She leaves three sisters, Mrs. Josie Delong, Mrs. Civilla Carpenter and Mrs. Mable Morris, all of Summerfield. Two brothers are deceased.

Mrs. Morris was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Byesville.

 

Harry M. Morris:

BYESVILLE, MAY 13---Harry M. Morris, 44, 259 S. Fifth Street, died Wednesday at 3 P.M. at Grant Hospital Columbus, following an operation.

Mr. Morris was born in Noble County, a son of the late John and Jane Morris, and was a resident of Byesville for the past 23 years. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Angeline Carpenter; five sisters, Mrs. George Distler, Lewisville, Miss Golda Morris, Summerfield, Mrs. Ada Reed, Akron and Mrs. Rose Miracle and Mrs. Mary Denbow, both of Byesville; and three brothers, Herny and Home, Summerfield and Wilburt, Byesville.

The body was removed to the Herlan Funeral Home and will be taken to the residence Thursday evening. Services will be conducted Saturday at 2 P.M. at the Assembly of God Church by Rev. Rice Snider. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Thursday 13 May 1948 Cambridge Jeffersonian Cambridge Ohio.

 

Paulus, Rose Paulus nee Draper

Services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Bauer & Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, for Mrs. Rose Paulus, 84, who died Saturday morning at her home in Woodsfield, Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Paulus, widow of Asher Paulus, was born Sept. 25, 1886, near Lewisville, the daughter of Isaac and Amanda Sheckles Draper. Three sons survive, Roger Moose, Columbus, and Raymond and Lawrence Moose, both of Ashland, with eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

MRS. ASHER PAULUS

Mrs. Rose Moose Paulus, 84, of 139 North Main Street, widow of Asher Paulus, died Saturday morning, January 2, 1971, at her home.

She was born September 25, 1886, near Lewisville, the daughter of Isaac and Amanda Shackle Draper.

Mrs. Paulus was a member of the Woodsfield United Methodist Church.

Surviving are three sons, Roger Moose, of Columbus; Raymond and Lawrence Moose, of Ashland; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren. Her husband, Asher Paulus, died in 1961.

Services were held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock in the Bauer & Turner Funeral Chapel with Rev. George Bender officiating. Interment was in Oakawn Cemetery.

Wilbert W. Willison

Wilbert W. Willison, 81, of 487 East Franklin street, Circleville, Ohio died Thursday evening, December 14, 1972, at ten o'clock in Berger Hospital, Circleville.

    Born December 4, 1891, in Monroe County, he was the son of David K. and Elizabeth Barnhouse Willison.

    Mr. Willison was a retired maintenance foreman and a member of North Court Street Church of Christ in Circleville.

    Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Estella Gatten Willison; two sons, Robert A. Willison, of Circleville, Rout four, and Charles W Willison, of Circleville, Route four; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

    Services were held monday afternoon at two o'clock in the Mader Funeral Home, Circleville, with Minister Delbert McKenzie and Minister Roger Massey officiating.  Interment was in Forest Cemetery.

 

Olive Jane (Stimpert) Frank, 79, died at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday February 9, 1972 at the home of a daughter, Mrs. William (Bonnie) Archer, 777 Rock Road, Zanesville. She had been in ill health for four months.

Born Oct. 23, 1892 in Lewisville, she was a daughter of Robert and Isabell Lafferre Stimpert. She attended the Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to Mrs. Archer is another daughter, Mrs. Harry (Ava) Orr of Gratiot; four sons, Harold W. of Coopermill road, Elmer F. of Newport, Ore., Wilfred C. of 2495 Archer lane and Clarence L. of 1183 Hall avenue; five brothers, Clarence Stimpert, George Stimpert, Herman Stimpert all of Lewisville, Charles Stimpert of Utica and Burt Stimpert of 834 Walbash avenue; 27 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren

Her husband, Herman, died in 1948. Two sons and one brother are also deceased.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the DeLong and Baker Funeral Home.

 

Effie Jane Latta, nee Schaub

 LATTA, EFFIE JANE,  age 89, of 2200 Broad Ave. NW [Canton, Ohio] died Saturday evening at Aultman Hospital after an extended illness.  Born at Lewisville, Monroe County, Ohio, Canton resident since 1904.  Widow of David W. Latta, died in 1956.  Survived by two sons, Donald G. Latta of East Canton and Vernon J. Latta of Ft. Myers Beach, Fla.  A daughter, Miss Jan Edith Latta of the home.  Three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.  Preceded in death by two sons, Elton L. and Zelvon D. Latta. . . Pearl Mae Schaub nee Geckler or Gheckler

MRS. PEARL M., age 82, the wife of Homer C. Schaub of 1891 Walnut St., SE, East Sparta, died Sunday [SUBMITTER'S NOTE: 5 November 1972] at Aultman Hospital, after a week's illness. Born in Bolivar and lived here 60 years. The Schaubs observed their 60th Wedding Anniversary October 12.  Besides her husband she is survived by one daughter: Mrs. Howard (Viola) Inboden of East Sparta. One grandson, Mac [SUBMITTER'S NOTE: should be Marc] Inboden. Two sisters: Mrs. Catherine Peterman and Mrs. Lucinda Miller both of Canton. One brother: Emmett Geckler of Strasburg. She was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers. Services Wednesday at 1 p.m., Gordon Funeral Home, East Sparta. Rev. Earl Stock officating. Burial in Fort Laurens Cemetery, Boliver.

 

George W. Gildow

George W. Gildow, 80, of Macksburg, Route 1, a retired tire builder and farmer, died Thursday afternoon, November 16, 1972, at three o clock, in Good Samaritan Medical Center, Zanesville, after an illness. Born June 5, 1892, in Lower Salem, he was the son of Charles and Ella McPeek Gildow. Mr. Gildow was formerly employed at Firestone Corporation. He was a member of Lowell Grange 2475 and Lower Salem United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his widow, Dorothy Wooster Gildow, whom he married December 23, 1916; a son, Eugene Gildow, of Providence, Rhode Island; a daughter, Mrs. Sarah Simon, of Struthers; two brothers, John Gildow of Lowell Route 1, and Hobart Gildow, of Daytona Beach, Florida; a sister, Mrs. Edna Williams, of Elba; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Jones, Mrs. Ella E. Hossman, 80, of 5 twenty-third St., McMechen, died at 6 a.m. Saturday at home.  Born in Sardis, Oct. 23, 1891, she was a daughter of the late Godfrey and Lena Rufener Hossman. A member of The Church of Christ, McMechen, she is survived by her husband, Everett Jones; two brothers, Ernest Hossman, Glen Dale; and George Hossman, St. Clairsville; a sister, Mrs. Elinor Long, Cobb Island,Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends received at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 214 Marshall St. McMechen, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Services in the chapel  at 1 p.m. Tuesday with Mr. Thomas Harland Gatten officiating. Interment in Halcyon Hills Memorial Gardens.

 

Earl J. Baker

Summerfield - Earl J. Baker, 48, Lewisville R.D. 2, suffered fatal injuries about 2:30 p.m. Thursday when he fell from a tower at the Ohio Power Co. plant at Beverly.

Washington County Sheriff s Department said Baker, a construction work foreman, was struck on the head by a piece of steel. He was dead on arrival at a Marietta hospital.

Born Nov. 28, 1923, in Monroe County, he was a son of Amelia Schott Baker of Lewisville R.D. 2, and the late Herman C. Baker.

He was a member of Local 639 Labors International and had been president of that local for 10 years. Baker was also a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Burkhart, the Summerfield Post of American Legion and the Woodsfield Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Leach; a daughter, Miss Marlene Baker, Philadelphia, Pa.; two sons, Joseph of Kent and Larry Dale of the home; his mother; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Brubach, Baltimore, Md. and a brother Roger of Massillon.

Friends will be received after 3 p.m. today at Brubach Funeral Home here.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Church by the Rev. Fr. Calabrese. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Caldwell.

Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

 

Georgia Stalder - nee Roberts

Mrs. Georgia Stalder, wife of the late Fred Stalder, passed away Tuesday evening, November 14, 1972 at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa. She was born May 14, 1887 in Platte City, Missouri.

After moving to Iowa, she spent her life in Adams County. The last few years she made her home in the Corning Rest Home.

She was a member of the Mr. Zion church for many years. After the closing of this little church, she became a member of the Brooks Methodist Church.

On May 18, 1910 she was married to Fred Stalder with whom she celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1960. They became the parents of eight children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, on September 10, 1965 and an infant daughter and a son Melvin who died at the age of 38.

She leaves to mourn three daughters: Mrs. Marion (Clarissa) Wallace, Mrs. Dean (Leona) Kester and Mrs. Paul (Evelyn) Hardisty; three sons Edgar, Leo and Alvin; 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one brother J. D. Roberts, three sisters, all of Villisca, Iowa, Mary Hudnut, Eva Leiner and Alice Neal, as well as a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Roland Funeral Home in Corning, Nov. 18 at 1:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. Paul Williams. Interment was in the Methodist Grove cemetery south of Brooks.

Morris, Dory ,82 , of Trail Run, Monroe County, died Sunday morning, October 8, 1972, at his home following a brief illness. Mr. Morris was a retired farmer. A veteran of World War 1,he was a member of Monroe Post  Number 87, American

Legion, Woodsfield, Ohio.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Beulah Crawford, of Quaker City,Route 1; Mrs. Grace Henthorn, of Sardis, Route 1 ; Mrs. Gladys Salisbury, of Sardis, Route 2;  Miss Mary Morris, of the home; and Mrs. Ellen Nolen, of Benwood, West Virginia; three sons, Chester Morris, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Freeman Morris of Woodsfield, Route1,and Clyde Morris of Cumberland, Route 1; twenty-one grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Annabelle Piatt, of Apple Creek, Ohio and Mrs. Jennie Drake, of Barnesville, and one brother, Alva Morris, of Salem, Ohio.

His wife, Alda Wickham Morris died in May 1943.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock in the Bauer and Turner Funeral Chapel with Reverend Earnest Hulsey and Evangelist J.W. Gallagher officiating. Burial was in Unity Cemetery, near Antioch. American Legion services were held Monday evening at 7:30 o'clock at the funeral home.

A retired farmer, he died at 8:15 A.M. Thursday (Nov. 16, 1972) at a Cambridge Hospital. He was born Sept. 30, 1879 in Monroe County, the son of David and Amelia Snyder Carpenter.

Mr. Carpenter leaves two grandchildren, Mrs. Velma Lee Bishop, Cambridge and Donald of Sacramento, Calif.; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Grover of Old Washington. His wife, Maude B. died in 1958 and one son is also deceased.

 

Dorsey W. Hooper

Dorsey W. Hooper, 67, of Woodsfield Route 1,a retired farmer ,died Sunday night December 17,1972 in Barnesville Hospital. He was born March 28, 1905 at Mechanicsburg ,a son of William and Eva Dillon Hooper. Mr. Hooper was a member of the Mechanicsburg Church of Christ.

Surviving are his wife Grace Bonam Hooper ,one son Chester Hooper of Woodsfield ;four grandchildren ,two great grandchildren-two sisters Mrs. Lily Dye of Wooster and Mrs. Lulu Haught of Graysville and one brother, John Hooper of Woodsfield.

Services were held Wednesday afternoon at one o'clock at the Bauer and Turner Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Charles Hendershot officiating. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery.

 

Clara Bachman (nee Stalder)

Clara Bachman 79, formerly of 36 South Main Street Rittman died June 27, at the Apostolic Christian Home. She was born on May 18, 1897, in Sardis to Rudolph and Elizabeth Hossman Stalder and lived in Sterling 50 years before moving to Rittman 15 years ago.

She was a member of the Sterling United Methodist Church and the Milton Garden club in Sterling.

She is survived by her sister, Oma Stalder of Sardis. Her husband, Simon, died in 1966. Two brothers, Edward and Charles, died previously.

Services were held June 30 from the Apostolic Christian Church with burial in the Apostolic Cemetery with Gillman Funeral Home in charge.

Woman Dies In Portage Collision

RAVENNA -- A 57-year-old Portage County woman was killed Thursday night in a head-on crash on Ohio 18 about a mile west of Ohio 225 in Palmyra Twp.

Mrs. Mabel Rigenbach [sic] of 3432 State Rt. 225, Palmyra Twp. was pronounced dead at the scene about 6:30 p.m. She was a passenger in a car driven by her husband, Edwin, 58. He is "fair" today in Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.

The Highway Patrol said the driver of the othr car, Connie Kaeen, 17, of 2569 Industry rd., Atwater Twp., was eastbound on Ohio 18 when her car went left of center and collided with the Rigenbach car. She also is "fair" in Robinson.

Wood Funeral Home in Ravenna is handling arrangements.

The 1972 Portage County traffic toll now stands at 30 compared to 43 at this time last year.

A retired automobile dealer, Mr. Atkinson died Wednesday evening (March 22, 1972) in Guernsey Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for two weeks.

He was associated with his brothers in the car business in Batesville for 44 years.

Born Feb. 28, 1898 in Batesville, he was the son of George H. and Viola Matilda Reed Atkinson and was a member of Batesville United Methodist Church. He also belonged to Quaker City Lodge 500, F&AM, Quaker City Chapter Order of Eastern Star and Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge.

Mr. Atkinson leaves his wife, the former Margaret Calvert, whom he married Jan. 20, 1922; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Roe, Batesville and Mrs. Blanche Denis, Columbus; two brothers, Charles R. and John Atkinson, both of Batesville. Two sisters and three brothers are deceased.

Daniel W. Stewart, 96, of Woodsfield, died Wednesday morning, December 5, 1973, at his home. Born February 8, 1877in Sardis, he was a son of the late John and Mary Jane Wilson Stewart. Mr. Stewart was a retired farmer. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Mary Allen and Mrs. Floyd Ault of Woodsfield, Mrs. Della Day of Elm Grove, W. Va., and Mrs. Viola Bertschy of West Salem, four sons, Oscar Stewart, of Rittman, John Stewart and Chester Stewart of Creston and Beryl Stewart of Woodsfield, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and one brother, Charles Stewart of Sardis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mollie Hendershot Stewart, two sons, two daughters, one step-daughter, four sisters and one brother. Services were held Saturday afternoon at two o clock in the Mount Olive United Methodist Church with the Rev. Frank Conley officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with the Rush Funeral Home of Sardis in charge.

 

Wilbur Fisk Lendon

Lendon, Wilbur Fisk, a retired miner and farmer died Wednesday afternoon March 21, 1973 at 4:25 o'clock in Barnesville Hospital. He was born October 9, 1886 in Armstrong Mills, a son of the later Thomas and Alveratta Wolff Lendon. His first wife, Lucy Bumgardner Lendon, preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Urwin Lendon; five sons, Wilber Lendon of Columbus; James Lendon of Bordman; George Lendon of Bethesda; Earl Lendon of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Leslie Lendon of Dennison. Six daughters, Mrs. Otis (Martha) Sims of Kansas City, Missouri, Mrs. Warren (Jessie) Smyth of Wharton, Texas, Mrs. Otho (Della) Miller of Kirkwood, Illinois, Mrs. Stanley (Dorthea) Zupan, of Cleveland, Mrs. Dan (Helen) Stewart of Carrolton, and Mrs. Robert (Lela) Rosini, of Fairpoint; twenty -seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two sisters Mrs. Lottie Ward, of Columbus, and Mrs. Ida Brenza of Shaker Heights, and one brother, Ray Lendon, of Bethesda. Services were held Saturday afternoon at one o'clock in the Kelly-Kemp Funeral Home Bethesda, with the Rev. Fread Bell officiating. Interment was in Belmont Cemetery

 

Lake L. Matz

        Lake L. Matz, 70 of 222 Samaritan Ave., former manager of Western Union for 49 years, died at Samaritan Hospital at 3:34 a.m. today [submitter's note: 16 Mar 1973].

        Mr. Matz retired from Western Union in July 1967.

        The son of Christian and Louise (Latta) Matz, he was born in Louisville [submitter's note: should be Lewisville] Aug 3, 1902. He had been a resident  of Ashland for 59 years coming here from Louisville.

        On Nov. 30, 1935, he was married to Eva Louise Davis who survives.  Other survivors include one son, David B. of Ashland and two sisters, Marguerite Matz of Ashland and Mrs. John O'Neil of Marion, Ind.

        He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

        He was a member of Masonic Ashland Blue Lodge No. 151 F&AM, Chapter No. 67 and Council No. 128. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church.

        Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Merlin Vining officiating. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

        Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where Masonic service will be held at 9 p.m. Sunday.

Mrs House died Saturday March 31, 1973 at Wheeling Hospital. She was born Nov 21, 1914 in Noble County, the daughter of Garfield and Tessie Bates Danford and was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Mrs House leaves her husband, Ralph; two daughters, Mrs Paul (Loretta) Widder and Mrs Charles (Joyce) Dottavio, both of Massillon; five grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs Arthilda Mendenhall, Sarahsville, and Miss June Danford, both of Caldwell and Mrs Helen Day, Quaker City R.D. 1.

Mr Britton died Thursday April 26, 1973 at a Cambridge hospital where he had been a patient since November 1972. Born near Kennonsburg, March 28, 1895 he was a son of the late Mark and Emma Smallwood Britton.

Mr Britton leaves his wife, May Danford Britton whom he married Sept 18, 1915; two daughters Mrs Dale (Verna) Webster, Quaker City and Mrs Robert (Lela) Mills, Mansfield, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters are deceased.

THORNVILLE Funeral services for Fred O. Brownfield, 83, Thornville, native of the Woodsfield area, will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday in Charles R. Boring Funeral Home here with Rev. Edwin Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Reform Cemetery.

Mr. Brownfield died early Monday evening (April 16, 1973) in Licking County Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

Born March 18, 1890 near Woodsfield, he was a son of the late Stephen and Lena Wells Brownfield. He was a veteran of World War I, a retired farmer and a member of Woodsfield Church of Christ, Eagles Lodge, Newark and American Legion Post 342, Thornville.

Mr. Brownfield leaves his wife, the former Paula Newhart; three daughters, Mrs. Ada Gallagher, Fairview, Mrs. Marjorie Donovan, Columbus and Mrs. Bonnie McCall, Cleveland; two sons, Fred Jr. of New Lexington and Steve of Thornville; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas of Newark.


William Brownfield

CADIZ William Brownfield, 64, Cadiz R. D. 4, died Sunday afternoon (March 25, 1973) in his home. A lineman for the General Telephone Co, he was born in Monroe County, Nov. 3, 1908, son of Kate Powell Brownfield, Barnesville, and the late Samuel Brownfield. He was a member of Cadiz Eagles.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Brownfield leaves his wife, the former Gladys Mooreland; two sons, Tom of Massillon and William of St. Louis, Mo.; three grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs. Adelia Graham, Mrs. Mary Bowen, Miss Gladys Brownfield and Mrs. Josephine Lucas, all of Barnesville. One brother, Raymond, is deceased.

Thelma W. Fowler nee Wharton

Mrs. Thelma W. Fowler, 76, formerly of Zanesville, died Sunday afternoon, Sept. 2, 1973, at 2:30 o clock, in Good Samaritan Medical Center, Zanesville, several hours after being admitted. She suffered an apparent heart attack earlier at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell where she was a patient. She was the widow of Fred Fowler, former district superintendent of Columbia Gas who died in May 1970. Born in Summerfield November 11, 1896, she was the daughter of Alva G. and Nellie Cunningham Wharton. Mrs. Fowler was a member of Central Trinity United Methodist Church in Zanesville.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs.Vivian Rhodes, of Monterey Park, California; a granddaughter, Mrs. Sandra Sue James and a great granddaughter, both of California; two sisters, Mrs. Bernice Batten, of Summerfield, and Mrs. Vera Hughes, of Cambridge, and a brother, A. G. Wharton, Jr., of Summerfield. A brother and a sister are deceased.

Services were held Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 5th, at one o clock, in the Brubach Funeral Home at Summerfield, with Rev. Warren E. Wilson and Rev. Richard Smith officiating. Burial was in Eastern Cemetery at Summerfield.

Oliver Thurman Gatten, 72, of Lewisville, Route 2, died Friday morning, March 2, 1973, at ten o'clock, at his home. He was born September 22, 1900, in Wayne Township, near Lewisville, the son of the late Winfield and Martha Smith Gatten. Mr. Gatten was a member of the Moose Ridge Memorial Chapel near Woodsfield. He was a retired farmer and served as Wayne Township Clerk for several years.

Surviving are his wife, Audrey Highman Gatten; four sons, William Muth, of Pleasant City; Kermit Gatten, of Marietta; Kenneth Gatten, of Hazardville, Connecticut, and Delmas Gatten, of Columbus; three daughters, Mrs. Eula Kahrig and Mrs. Sue Kuhn, of Columbus, and Mrs. Amy Furbee, of Newark; twenty-one grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Stella Willison, of Circleville,Ohio; Mrs. Chloe Farley, of Akron; Mrs. Edna Simmons, Mrs. Mary Hoover and Mrs. Ruth Cramblett, of Woodsfield, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends were received at The Bauer and Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, Ohio. Private services were held in their Chapel on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, with Minister J. V. A. Traylor and Joseph Moore officiating. Interment was in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield,Ohio.

Mrs. Charlene Claus Drake, 50, of the Moose Ridge Road, died Saturday afternoon, March 31, 1973, about three o'clock at her home, after an extended illness.
She was born in Miltonsburg, November 17, 1922, the daughter of Frank and Estella Schroder Claus.
Mrs. Drake owned and operated a beauty shoppe in Woodsfield for several years.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Larry (Cheryl) Keylor and two grandchildren, of the home, and one brother, Keith Claus, of Massillon. A sister Ruth preceded her in death in 1949.
Services were held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock in The Bauer and Turner Chapel, with Rev. Charles Price officiating. Burial was in Miltonsburg Cemetery on Woodsfield, Route 3.

Samuel Mercer - son of Jacob M. and Jennie Fox Mercer - age 79, of Paris, OH, passed away at Timken Mercy Hospital, Canton, Ohio, Saturday September 29, 1973 following a one month illness. He lived in the vicinity for over 50 years, born in West Virginia January 22, 1894. Member of the Israel United Church of Christ. He was retired coal miner.

He was preceded in death by his wife Carrie in 1971. Survivors include his daughters: Mrs. Donald (Martha) Gram of Paris; Mrs. George (Eva) Speakman of Paris; Mrs. Walter (Esther) Reed of Oneida; brother, Leb Mercer of Bergholz; sisters, Mrs. Molly Hackathorn of Bergholz; Mrs. Margaret Hackathorn of Bergholz; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren.

Born in Monroe County, Nov. 27, 1892, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Carpenter and was a member of Bates Hill Church of Christ.

Mrs. Leaves her husband, Ellis D. (Pete) Leach; four daughters, Mrs. Betty Casey, Sarahsville, Miss Phyllis Leach of the home, Mrs Edith Bates, West Lafayette and Mrs. Nancy Moore, Coshocton; 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Miss Hallie Carpenter, Cambridge and one brother, Calvin Carpenter, Quaker City R.D. 1.

Graham was born in Washington County, the son of Maurice and Mary Elizabeth Miller Graham. He was an oil field rigger for Burtner, Morgan and Stephens Co.

Lindenmeyer, Glenn H., 48, of Route 3, Wooster, Ohio, died suddenly early Friday morning, August 10, 1973, at his home following a heart attack. He was born October 10, 1924, at Beallsville, the son of Walter and Vesta Steiger Lindenmeyer. Mr. Lindenmeyer was a member and treasurer of the Burbank Road Church of Christ, Wooster, and had been employed as a foreman
for the past three years at Astro Metallurgical Corporation.

Hartman, Joseph, 82, of Sardis, a retired farmer and glass worker, died Sunday morning, August 26, 1973 in Bellaire City Hospital. Born in Sardis, September 4, 1890, he was the son of the late John and Mary Holtsclaw Hartman. Mr. Hartman was a member of the United Methodist Church, and Ohio Valley Post No.760, American Legion, Hannibal. He was a World War I Veteran.

Surviving are two sisters, Miss Katie Hartman, of Beallsville, and Mrs. Eva Trago, of Columbus; one brother, Jesse Hartman, of Sardis, and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock in the Rush Funeral
Home at Sardis, with Minister Arthur Probst officiating. Burial was in

Turner, Mrs. Bessie Laura, 77, of Beallsville, died Thursday afternoon, November 1, 1973, at three o'clock in Barnesville Hospital. She was born in Monroe County, September 25, 1894, a daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Angus Price. Mrs. Turner was a Methodist by faith, a member of Beallsville Pythian Sisters, and Beallsville Chapter No.24, Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are three sons; Cecil K. Phillips, of Jerusalem; Homer C. Phillips, of Beallsville, and Edward R. Turner, of Orlando, Florida; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Rarick, of Junction City, Ohio; Mrs. Minnie Bilyeu, of Danville, Ohio; Mrs. Ethel Bach, of Massillon, and Mrs. Ella Cecil, of Woodsfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold D. Turner, December 8, 1972; five brothers and six sisters.

Services were held Sunday afternoon at one o'clock in the Harper-Campbell Funeral Home at Beallsville, with Rev. Richard Perkins officiating. Burial was in Beallsville Cemetery.

Graham, William, 76, of Malta, a retired oil field employee and steel worker, died on Tuesday morning, Sept.4, 1973 at 9:30 o'clock, in Bethesda Hospital, Zanesville. He was born at New Matamoras, December 3,1896, a son of Isaac and Mary Worstell Graham.

Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Fannie McFerren, of McConnelsville, Route 3; Mrs. Edna Stegner of McConnelsville, and Mrs. Nellie Stegner, of Malta.

Three brothers preceded him in death.

Services were held Thursday afternoon, Sept. 6th, at two o'clock, in the McCardy Funeral Home at Beverly. Burial was in Beverly Cemetery.

Ernest Clive Skinner

News of that accident reportedly may have contributed to the death later in the day of Ernest Clive Skinner, 13, Route 4, Newport, a lifelong sufferer of epileptic seizures and stepbrother* of Mrs. Collins' husband, Mike. According to Ernest's physician, word of the fatal traffic accident upset the youth deeply, a condition which the doctor said may have led to the fatal seizure which followed at the Skinner home. The boy was pronounced dead on arrival at Newport Community Hospital.

The Skinner youth's services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Sherman Chapel here, with the Rev. Frank Dizmang officiating. Burial will be in Newport Cemetery. Besides his stepbrother, he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Skinner, and four sister, Lynda, Jean, Ramona and Ella, at the home.

Ernest Skinner, 13, Car Crash Witness* Buried on Aug. 25

Funeral services for Ernest Clive Skinner, 13, were held Saturday, August 25, at the Sherman chapel in Newport, with the Rev. Frank Dizmang officiating. Interment was in the Newport cemetery.

Ernest, an epileptic, passed away Tuesday, August 21, at the Newport Hospital after witnessing the head-on auto crash near the bridge that day.* Born March 30, 1960, at Newport, he was a lifelong resident of this area.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Skinner, Route 4, Newport, four sisters, Lynda, Jean, Ramona and Ella, all at the home, several aunts and uncles.

  William H. McMahon. 71, of 216 Oaklawn Avenue, died in Barnesville Hospital Tuesday morning, August 6, 1974, at 11:30 o'clock. He suffered a heart attack at his home about 9:30 o'clock and was admitted to the hospital shortly after.

  A son of the late John B. and Margaret Schneider McMahon, he was born at Shadyside December 19, 1902.

  Mr. McMahon was a retired school teacher.

  Surviving are his wife, Helen M. Bachman McMahon; two sons, William Richard McMahon, stationed with the U.S. Navy at San Diego, California, and Ralph Albert McMahon of Cleveland Heights; one daughter, Mrs. Roger (Patricia) Hendershot, of Jerusalem; two grandchildren, and one brother, Albert McMahon of Painesville.

  Friends may call at the Gardner Funeral Home Thursday.

Ava O. (Frank) Orr, 62, of Gratiot, died at 9:15 a.m. Sunday August 25, 1974 at Bethesda Hospital. She had been in failing health the past year.

She was born in Lewisville Jan. 17, 1912. Mrs. Orr was employed as a cook at Hopewell High School until forced to retire because of ill health. She was a member of Gratiot United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Harry Orr; a son, Herman Young of Newark Route 1; two daughters, Mrs. Don (Wanda) Phillis of Gratiot and Mrs. Larry (Marilyn) Tharp of Dayton; two step-sons, Harry Orr Jr. and Orville Orr of Newark; four brothers, Elmer Frank of Pendleton, Ore., Harold Frank of Coopermill road, Wilford Frank of Archer's lane and Clarence Frank of Hall avenue; a sister Mrs. William Archer of Archer's lane; 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

BARNESVILLE Harry Leroy Stephen, 76, near Batesville, died at 7:05 p. m. Thursday (Aug. 1, 1974) at Barnesville Hospital following an illness.

Born Oct. 10, 1897 in Monroe County, he was a son of the late Jacob and Nancy E. Wells Stephen.

Mr. Stephen leaves three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Tuttle, Columbus, Mrs. Mary Carpenter, Summerfield and Mrs. Lillian Fitzgerald, Flushing; and one brother, Jerome Stephen, Pleasant City.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. Sunday in Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home here with Evan James Gallagher officiating. Burial will be in Calais Cemetery.

RICHLAND Mrs. Jayne Inez Kinkade, 56, Rt. 1, Mabton, died Thursday in Kadlec Hospital here. Born in Waterville, she had lived in Mabton the past 30 years. Her parents, the late Mr. And Mrs. Chester Silbaugh, were one of the pioneer families in the Yakima Valley. Mrs. Kinkade attended Mabton Elementary School, Mabton High School and Kinman Business School in Spokane. She was married to Charles J. Kinkade in Zillah [sic], Sept. 26, 1944. She was a member of the Mabton Presbyterian Church.

Survivors are her husband; two daughters, Lana Jill Kinkade of Libby, Mont.; and Sandra Lynne Kinkade of Mabton and one brother, Chester Silbaugh, and one sister, Mrs. Hope Donovan, both of Mabton.

 

Louis G. Teufel (May 25, 1892 - February 19, 1974)

TEUFEL, Louis G., 81, of 30 Jefferson Avenue, Wheeling died Tuesday at the Home of the Good Shepherd, Wheeling.  He was a member of St. Michael's Church and a retired employee of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corp.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Burkart Teufel, March 21, 1969.

Surviving are two sons, Harold of Wheeling and C.A.(Jack) of Elm Grove, Wheeling; one brother, Peter A. of Martins Ferry.  Friends received at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.  Mass of Christian Burial Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Michael Church. Clarence Leb Mercer, 77, a veteran of WW I and retired coal miner died Tuesday March 5, 1974 at his home in Bergholz, Ohio. Survivors include his widow, Etta Crawford Mercer; three sons including Norval Dallison of Canton, Oh; three daughters including Mrs. Albert (Clarice) Merrin, of Canton, and two sisters. Mary Ann Ullman nee Linton

Mrs. Mary Ann Ullman, 92 of Chandlersville, Rt. 2, died Wednesday afternoon, Oct 23, 1974 at 3:45 o'clock, at her home following an extended illness. She was born in Noble County, Dec 1, 1881, the dau of George and Ellen Linton. Mrs. Ullman was a member of the Chandlersville United Methodist Church. She also belonged to Moorhead-Bliss Chapter No 455, Order of Eastern Star, and Carpathia Rebekah Lodge No 721. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs Sylvia Spence, of Lewisville, and Mrs. Pauline Gillogly, of the home; one son Ralph L. Ullman, of the home; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild, and one sister, Mrs Lula Shilling, of Caldwell. Her husband Lewis Ullman died in 1958, and one son is also deceased. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock, in the Chandlersville United Methodist Church with the Rev. William High officiating. Burial was in the Chandlersville Cemetery.

Albert (Bert) Mallett, 87, of Lewisville, Rt 2, died Tuesday night, May 7, 1974, at 9:10 o'clock in Marietta Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. He was born in Monroe County, March 29, 1887, a son of the late James and Harriett (McElfresh) Mallett. Mr. Mallett was a retired farmer, and a member of the United Methodist Church. surviving are two sons, James H. Mallett, of Mansfield, and Joseph W. Mallett, of Lewisville, Rt. 2; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Gibson and Mrs. Mary Baker, of Lewisville; Mrs. Hazel Martin, of Sycamore Valley, and Mrs. Gladys Strickling, of Ravenna, and two brothers, Miles Mallett, of Canton, and William Mallett of Stafford. His wife Edna (Dearth) Mallett, died in 1940. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at one o'clock in the Mallett Funeral Home at Stafford, with Rev. Thomas Clark officiating. WARSAW---Jimmy Neil Moore, 11-year-old son of John Moore and Nancy Leach Moore, Towahak Lane, Coshocton, grandson of Ellis Leach, Summerfield, died at 7:30 A.M. Sunday (Nov. 17, 1974) at Coshocton Memorial Hospital. Death was attributed to an extended illness and occurred shortly after admission to the hospital. Born in Coshocton, Feb. 25, 1963, the youth was a fifth grade student at the Ohio State School for the Blind, Columbus.

In addition to his parents and grandfather, Jimmy leaves one brother, Sammy Ray Moore of the home. One brother is deceased.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday at E. Main St. Church of Christ, Coshocton, with Evan. Pat Sydnor officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery here.

Born at Calais, March 23, 1892, she was a daughter of the late John and Louvina Carpenter Johnson and was a member of Main St. United Methodist Church here. She was also a member of the Daughters of America Lodge.

Mrs. Taylor leaves two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Irene) Brownfield and Mrs. Lester (Helen) Grier, both of Barnesville; one granddaughter; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Stephen and Mrs. Juanita Sayre, both of Barnesville; and one brother, Allen Johnson, Lewisville.

Her husband, Spencer Taylor, preceded her in death in June of 1973. One infant daughter, one infant son, one sister and five brothers are also deceased. Friends may call at Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home here from 2 until 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday.

Hudson, Vernon Ellsworth ,80, of Armstrongs Mills, died Tuesday morning, November 12, 1974 at Bellaire City Hospital. He was born August 21, 1894, at Beallsville, a son of the late Donald and Alma Jackson Hudson. Mr. Hudson was a member of the Christian Church, Bellaire Eagles Lodge and a retired coal miner.

Preceded in death by his wife, Florence VanDyne Hudson, in April of 1973; he is survived by a son, Donald Hudson, of Miami, Florida; one daughter, Mrs. Linda Luke, of Armstrong Mills; one step-son, Russell Milhoan, of Armstrongs Mills; six grandchildren; and one brother, Clarence Hudson, of Ozark.

She leaves her husband, Paul King; three daughters, Mrs. Garold (Ruth) McQuire and Mrs. Fred (Doris) Moose, both of Cambridge, and Mrs. Betty Williams, of Cambridge, Route 1; five sons; Charles Arthur King, of Stafford, Texas; Harry B. King, of address unknown; Paul L. King, of Hartford, Connecticut; Robert B. King, of Cambridge and Clyde P. King, of the home;

Holland, Mrs. V. Eunice, 67, of  642 Cemetery Road, Martins Ferry, Ohio, died late Thursday, November 28, 1974, at the late Martins Ferry Hospital. She was born in Monroe County, January 8, 1907, a daughter of the late Madison and Emma Dennis Piatt. Mrs. Holland was a Methodist by faith.

Surviving are one son, Earl J. Holland of St. Clairsville; one daughter, Mrs. John (Betty Jean) Arbogast, of Springville, New York; one brother, Emmett Piatt, of Sterling, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Ben (Pearl) Mellott, of Martins Ferry, and Mrs. Ira (Carrie) Pittman, of Beallsville, and five grandchildren.

Her husband, Wayne C. Holland, preceded her in death in 1964.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at one o'clock in the Heslop Funeral Home, Martins Ferry, with the Rev. Oliver Burd officiating. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry.

 

Edna E. Oldemeyer nee Williams

Mrs. Herman Oldemeyer, 85, Indian Hills Drive, Sioux City resident for 45 years, died Tuesday evening at the center after an extended illness.

Mrs. Oldemeyer, the former Edna E. Williams, was born on May 3, 1889, at Brush, Colo. She was married on Jan. 29, 1917, to Herman Oldemeyer, and the couple moved to Sioux City in 1928.

She was a bookkeeper for several years for her husband who operated the Oldemeyer Garage. He died in 1962.

She was a member of Trimble United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a brother-in-law, Clarence Oldemeyer of Brush.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Floyd Park Cemetery with the Rev. Alvern Kinrade of Trimble United Methodist Church officiating. The W. Harry Christy Funeral Home in Morningside is in charge of arrangements.

She was born at Sardis, May 6, 1881, a daughter of William and Rachel Cooley Hoskinson. Mrs. Price was a member of the Nazarene Church at New Matamoras. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Tillie Beechy, Mrs. Bessie McCarty and Mrs. Virginia Allen, all of Ashland, two sons, Roy Price, of Bridgeport, and Joseph Price of Wheeling, seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Irene Winsinger of Gary, Indiana. Ray Lendon [Thomas Raymond Lendon], 76, Rt 1, Bethesda, died Monday evening at the Barnesville Hospital. He was born March 12, 1899 in Armstrong Mills, a son of Thomas and Alveratta Wolf (Wollf) Lendon. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Bethesda South Main Church of Christ. Preceded in death by his wife, Elsie, he is survived by two sisters, Lottie Ward of Columbus and Mrs. Ida Brenza of Shaker Heights, Cleveland . Mrs. Dora Lillian Haught, 66, of 129 North Second Avenue, Paden City, West Virginia, died Sunday, December 7, 1975, in the Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg, West Virginia. She was born in Pleasants County, West Virginia, the daughter of the late William and Emma Kernan Hendricks. Mrs. Haught was a member of the Paden City Christian Church and was a retired employee of the Corning Glass Works at Paden City.

Surviving are her husband, Edward W. Haught, of Paden City; two sons, Charles E. Haught, of New Matamoras, Ohio, and Timothy W. Haught, of Route 2, Sardis, Ohio; one brother, J. E. Hendricks, of Sistersville, West Virginia; two sisters, Mrs. Mazie Billiter and Miss Ann Hendricks, both of Paden City; and five grandchildren.

Services were held in the Mowery-Trowbridge Funeral Home at Paden City, on Wednesday, December 10, at two o clock in the afternoon, with Danny Vanscoy officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Sistersville, West Virginia.

 

H. Carston Heinlein

Rev. H. Carston Heinlein, 77, of Sebring, Florida, died Tuesday afternoon, January 14, 1975, at four o clock in Sebring General Hospital following an illness. He was born January 1, 1898 in Kentucky. Rev. Heinlein served in the ministry over fifty years. After serving various churches in the Cambridge district, he resigned from Byesville United Methodist Church to accept a pastorate at Duncan Falls. He moved from there to Florida in 1965, and served as pastor of St. John United Methodist Church at Sebring until retiring in 1973. He was a 50-year member of Duncan Falls Masonic Lodge F. & A.M.

Surviving are his wife, Ada Henderson Heinlein, one daughter, Mrs. Margaretta Myers, of Hanover, Indiana; one son, Carston R. Heinlein, of Key West, Florida; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Duncan Falls United Methodist Church on Saturday afternoon, January 18th, at two o clock. Burial was in Duncan Falls Cemetery.

 

Kate Brownfield nee Powell

Mrs. Kate Brownfield, 93, resident of 710 Neva Avenue, Barnesville, died Thursday night, August 21st at Barnesville Hospital, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Monroe County, April 16, 1882, a daughter of the late William and Mary Carpenter Powell. She was a member of West Main Street Church of Christ.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. John (Adelia) Graham, Gladys Brownfield, Mrs. Josephine Lucas and Mrs. Mary Bowen, all of Barnesville; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.

Her husband, Samuel Brownfield preceded her in death in 1924. Two sons, seven brothers and two sisters are deceased.

Friends were received Saturday at the Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home, where services were held Sunday, August 24th at 1:30 p. m. with Evangelist Kenneth Frazier officiating. Interment was made in Calais Cemetery.

John Leroy Blackstone, 67, of Lewisville, Route 2, Lewisville, a retired carpenter and farmer, died Saturday evening, August 30,1975, in Barnesville Hospital. He had been admitted to the hospital on Thursday. He was born in Noble County, March 12, 1908, a son of Clark and Margaret Heil Blackstone. Mr. Blackstone was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Burkart.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred; seven sons, Vernon(Cora) Blackstone of Orrville; Frank (Wanda) of Lewisville; Dale(Hilda); Francis(Judy) Lewisville; Donald (Hazel) of Wadsworth; David (Nicki) of Lewisville; Patrick (Aleta) of Lewisville; two daughters, Mrs. Mary(John)Sheets and Mrs. Darlene(Richard) Liston of Columbus; thirty-seven grandchildren; five brothers, Bernard of Huntington, Indiana; Paul and Elmer of Zanesville; Bert, of New Concord, and Wilbur Blackstone, of Cleveland, and two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Thompson, of Caldwell, and Mrs. Marilla Schoeppner, of Cumberland.

A funeral Mass was held at ten o'clock Tuesday morning in St. Joseph's Church, with Msgr. Robert A. Brown officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with the Gardener Funeral Home of Woodsfield in charge. The Rosary was recited at the funeral home on Monday evening at 7:30 o'clock.

Walter W. Draper, 86, of 401 East Church Street, Woodsfield, died Monday afternoon, March 31, 1975, at The Fairview Manor Nursing Home, in Beverly, Ohio, where he had been a patient about three months.
He was born in Monroe County, March 23, 1889, a son of Ludwell and Mary Belle Wise Draper.
Mr. Draper was a retired farmer and a member of The Bracken Ridge United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mertie Billman Draper, also of The Fairview Manor Nursing Home at Beverly; one grandson; James C. Draper, of Lancaster, Ohio; one great grandson; and one sister, Mrs. Clayton Detlar, of Pittsburgh, Pa. He was preceded in death by a son, Loren Draper, in March 1957.
Friends are being received at The Bauer and Turner Funeral Home in Woodsfield.
Funeral services will be held in their chapel this Thursday morning at
10:30 o'clock. Burial will be in The Bracken Ridge Cemetery near Lewisville.

Mrs. Draper died Tuesday (April 22, 1975) in Fairview Manor Nursing Home, Beverly.
She was born, January 5, 1890, in Monroe County and was a member of Bracken Ridge United Methodist Church and Rebekah Lodge, Lewisville. Her husband, Walter Draper, preceded her in death March 31, 1975.
Mrs. Draper leaves two sisters, Mrs. Susie Mallett, Woodsfield, and Mrs. I.M. (Golda) Straight, Antioch; one grandson and one great-granddaughter.

 

Colleene Frichtel nee Clark

Mrs Colleen Clark Frichtel, 51, of 1801 Dailey Ave. Latrobe, died in Latrobe Area Hospital Thursday night [May 1, 1975] following a lingering illness. She was born November 7, 1923, a daughter of the late Clyde Clark and Dora Clark. She was a member of the Holy Family Church.

She is survived by her husband Francis Frichtel and one sister, Mrs Frank (Frances) Tovalin of Lorrain, Ohio.

The family will receive friends in John J. Lopatich Funeral, Latrobe starting at 3 p.m. Saturday then from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 daily. Funeral arrangements will be announced.


James R. Hensel

James Ralph Hensel, 69, Matamoras, died at 11:45 p.m. yesterday In Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born April 18, 1905, in Monroe County, a son of George W. and Mary Stacy Hensel . He was a member of Brownsville United Methodist Church. On Nov. 3, 1933 he married Augusta Rosenlieb, who survives with one son, Bruce, of the home; three brothers, Delbert, Vienna, W. Va., Harold and Henry, both of Matamoras, and two sisters, Mrs. Goldie Graham, Wooster, and Mrs. Bertha Cline, Matamoras.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Lee Hadley Funeral Home, Matamoras, with burial in Matamoras Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 this evening and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.

Mrs. Freda Meeks, 70, Waverly, W.Va., died Saturday evening in St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg. She was a native of Washington County and a daughter of the late Douglass and Clarabelle McCurdy.

Four sons and one daughter survive: Howard W. and Raymond, both of Waverly; Robert, Collingswood, N.J.; Donald, Parkersburg, and Dorothy, Waverly. There are 12 grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren, a brother, Walter, Marietta, and two sisters, Frances McCullick, Williamstown, and Jenny Rode, Arizona.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Vaughan Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with burial in Willow Island Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 this evening.

     He was a member of the Reynoldsburg Church of Christ.
     Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Kahrig, and one son, Kevin, of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Kahrig, of Lewisville, Route 1, paternal grandmother, Mrs. Louise Kahrig, of Caldwell; eight brothers, Herman Kahrig, of Barnesville; Lester Kahrig, of Pataskala; Virgil Kahrig, of Marshallville; Rodney Kahrig, of Woodsfield Route; Kenneth Kahrig, of Jerusalem; Francis Kahrig, of Canton; Lloyd Kahrig, of Wooster, and William Kahrig, of Lewisville; five sisters, Martha Uppole, of Lewisville; Vera
Crock, of Massillon; Dortha Matz, of Dalton; Leora Cruise, of Wooster, and Doris Kahrig, with U.S. Army in Germany.  One son and one daughter preceded him in death.
     Funeral services were held Tuesday morning May 6th at ten o'clock in the Schoedinger East Chapel, Columbus, with Minister Gene Armstrong officiating.  Interment and graveside services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:45 o'clock in Friendship Cemetery, Lewisville.
Former Monroe Man Gets Transplant of Kidney April 9, 1968 at University Hospital
     Officials of the College of Medicine at University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio have announced the completion of seven successful kidney transplants since id-March.  Among these patients is Roger H. Kahrig, 27, of 859 Westphal Ave. Columbus, Ohio.
     Mr. Kahrig, a former Monroe County resident, is the son of Lawrence and Ella Kahrig of Lewisville, Ohio. He received a kidney from this brother, Lester J. Kahrig, of Pataskala, Ohio, in a 10-hour operation performed April 9, 1968 at the hospital in Columbus.
    The assistant professor of surgery at the hospital in Columbus announced that Mr. Kahrig is doing well.  He returned to his home for two weeks in May and is now a patient at the hospital for observation and further treatment.

Schwartz, Mrs. Rosa Marie, 85, of King Road, Route 2, Bucyrus, Ohio died Wednesday evening, August 6, 1975, at nine o'clock in Bucyrus Community Hospital. In failing health for the past five years, she was admitted to the hospital on July 24. She was born in Monroe County, January 10, 1890, a daughter of the late John and Louise Christman Ackerman. On March 23, 1916, she was married to Chester S. Schwartz, who died January 25, 1970. She had resided in the Bucyrus area since her marriage. Mrs. Schwartz was a member of the Epsworth United Methodist Church at Bucyrus.

Surviving are one son, Leslie Schwartz, and four daughters, Miss Esther Schwartz;  Mrs. Robert (Viola) Weidermaier; Mrs Robert (Leona) Kibler and Mrs. Paul (Lucille) Wagner, all of the Bucyrus area; fifteen grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one grandchild and one brother.

Services were held Saturday afternoon at one o'clock in the Wise Funeral Home at Bucyrus, with the Rev. E. Parker West, pastor of the Epworth United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Epworth United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

Hossman, Charles O. ,81, of 302 Plum Street, Woodsfield, died at his home early Saturday morning, December 20, 1975, after a lingering illness. He was born in Monroe County, April 21, 1894, a son of the late Karl and Alice Siegenthaler Hossman.
Mr. Hossman was a member of the Lutheran Church of Miltonsburg, and a retired state Highway employee.

Surviving are his wife, Hazel Craig Hossman; one daughter, Mrs. Helen Agin, of North Ridgeville, Ohio; one foster daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Beckett, of Barnesville; one son, Bernard Hossman, of Cameron; two grandchildren; three foster grandchildren; two foster great-grandchildren; one brother, Wes Hossman , of Jerusalem; and one sister Mrs. Freida Claus, of Melbourne, Florida.

Huffman, Virgil F., 64, of Hannibal, died Friday morning, December 19, 1975, in the Ohio Valley Medical Center at Wheeling, W.Va. following an illness. He was born at Duffy, January 2, 1911, a son of Mrs. Vada Potts Huffman and the late Lewis Huffman. Mr. Huffman was a veteran of World War II and a member of Ohio Valley Post No. 760, American Legion, Hannibal.

Surviving are his mother, his wife, Kathryn Hicks Huffman, and three sisters; Mrs. Louise Riggenbaugh, of Mansfield; Mrs. Dale Gehrig, of Woodsfield, and Mrs. Elsie Kasserman, of Rittman.

Services were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock in the Rush Funeral Home at Sardis, with Rev. David Mansperger officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery, New Martinsville, W.Va.

F. P. Wilkerson Dies; Services Set Friday

Frederick Paul Wilkerson, 53, prominent churchman and World War I veteran, died Tuesday in his home, 1151 Tulep av.

He was former superintendent and treasurer of the McLeister Memorial Wesleyan Methodist Church.

Born in Cameron, W. Va., Mr. Wilkerson had lived in Akron 34 years. A tire builder for B. F. Goodrich Co., he was a member of its Thirty Year Club.

He leaves his wife, Eva; two daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Sutter of Akron and Mrs. Betty Mansell of Wolf Summit, W. Va.; two sons, Paul and Frederick of Akron; two sisters, Mrs. Lesta H. Crow of Cameron and Grace M. Wilkerson of Akron; two brothers, Oria M. of Chicago and James R. of Akron, and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p. m. Friday in the Mcleister Memorial Wesleyan Methodist Church, 1214 Coventry st., the Rev. H. N. Robinson officiating.

Friends may call at the residence after 4 o clock today.

Mrs Clara Opal Hogue, 51, of Commercial Point, Ohio, died Friday, March 21, 1975, in Berger Hospital. Mrs Hogue was a member of the United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband, Charles Hogue, and one daughter, Mrs.Ruth Milnerwight.

Friends were received at the Michener Funeral Home where services were held Monday afternoonat two o'clock. Interment was in Friendship Cemetery, Lewsville.

Robert L. Woods

Robert Lee Woods, Sr., 90, of 123 East Main St., St. Clairsville, formerly of Route 1, Martins Ferry, died Monday evening (April 21, 1975) at the Ohio Valley Medical Center. He was born May 13, 1884, at Route 1, Bridgeport, a son of the late William A. and Lou Arabella DeVault Woods.

A retired farmer, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary A Krieger Woods in 1958. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Freda Armbruster of Reisville, N.C., Mrs. Henry (Minnie) May of Route 1, Martins Ferry and Mrs. Joseph (Blanche) Murray of Grants, N.M.; three sons, Robert L. Woods, Jr. of Wheeling, Woodrow Woods, Route 1, Martins Ferry and Herbert Woods of Bellaire; three sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Weatherson of Mt. Pleasant, Miss Blanche Woods and Mrs. Erma Bailey of Bridgeport; 23 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jess Woods and Ellis Woods and a grandson, William Woods.

Friends will be received at the Heslop Funeral Home, Martins Ferry, 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday where services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. D. Larry Kline officiating. Burial in Weeks Cemetery, Bridgeport.

QUAKER CITY--Mrs. Margaret J. Atkinson, 74, Batesville, died at 3:30 A.M. today (Aug. 26, 1975) at a Cambridge hospital where she had been a patient since 1972.
She was born Sept. 9, 1900 in Houston, Texas, moving to Ohio with her family at an early age. She was the daughter of Ernest and Ada Everett Calvert and was a member of Batesville United Methodist Church and the past matron of Quaker City Chapter 177 Order of Eastern Star.
Mrs. Atkinson leaves one sister, Mrs. Florence Haupt, St. Clairsville; several cousins, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law. Her husband George, died March 22, 1972. Services for Mrs. Atkinson will be 2 P.M. Thursday at Eberle Funeral Home here, with burial to follow in Batesville Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Wednesday. Eastern Star services will be held there at 7:00 Wednesday.

Harvey Schoonover- Harvey H. Schoonover, 59, of 172 Fourteenth Street, Barberton, Ohio, died in Barberton Citizens Hospital, Thursday, January 8th. (1976) He was born in Sardis, July 2, 1918, a son of George and Edna Jones Schoonover. Surviving are his wife, Vada Schoonover, two sons, Harvey Schoonover Jr., and Thomas Toomey of Barberton, one daughter, Mrs. Norma Jean Petrekovic of Barberton, four sisters Mrs. Ruth VanCamp and Mrs. Opal Bristol of Wheeling, Mrs. Anna Barth of New Martinsville and Mrs. Sylvia O Neill of Sardis, two brothers, Calvin Schoonover of Sardis and Clark Schoonover of Columbus, three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at two o clock in the Rush Funeral Home of Sardis, with the Rev. Frank Conley officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olive Cemetery, near Sardis.

 

McMahon, Albert Emerson McMahon

  A former Painesville teacher, Albert E. McMahon, 69, of 121 Gillette St., Painesville, died this morning, September 16, 1976, at his home as the result of an apparent heart attack.

  A son of the late John B. and Margaret Schneider McMahon, he was born at Shadyside, Ohio October 1, 1906. He had resided in Painesville since 1943 when he came here to teach. Before his retirement, Mr. McMahon taught at Champion Junior High School, Harvey High School, and Walnut Junior High School.

  He married Miss Elta Crum August 25, 1935 in Wellsburg, W. Va.

  Mr. McMahon was a member of the First Church of Christ of Painesville, and local, state, and National Teachers Associations

Survivors include: his widow; daughter, Mrs. Margaret Ann Rothwell of Budd Lake, N.J.; son, Robert E. McMahon of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother William H. McMahon.

  Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at the Woodsfield First Church of Christ, Woodsfield, Ohio, with the Rev. Amon G. McSwords of the First Church of Christ, Painesville, officiating.

  Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.

  Calling hours are 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Ave., Painesville.

    Charles A. DeVoe, 66, of 3811 Twenty-third Avenue West, Bradenton, Florida, died Saturday, February 7, 1976, in Manatwee hospital at Bradenton. He was a native of Lewisville, Ohio, the son of the late Allen and Etta Carpenter DeVoe.
     He was a 1927 graduate of Lewisville high school. Mr. DeVoe and family moved to Bradenton in 1959. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bradenton, and a member of Monroe Lodge No. 189, F. & A. M. ., Woodsfield.
    Surviving are his wife, Mary Brown DeVoe; two daughters, Mrs. Norma Watson, of Bradenton, Florida, and Miss Shirley DeVoe, of Columbus, Ohio and one sister, Miss Lyria DeVoe, of Lewisville.
    Services were held on Wednesday, February 11th, at the Bayshore Funeral Home. Burial was in Mansion Memorial Park, Bradenton

    William G. Ackerman, 50, of Woodsfield, died unexpectedly Saturday evening, August 7, 1976, at his home following an apparent heart attack.
    Born at Woodsfield, September 22, 1925, he was the son of Mrs. Jessie Ackerman, of Woodsfield, and the late William Ackerman.
    Mr. Ackerman was a partner in the Ackerman Brothers Garage in Woodsfield. He was a member of St. Paul s United Church of Christ, Woodsfield Lodge No.
338, Knights of Pythias, and Monroe Post No. 87, American Legion, all of Woodsfield. He was a veteran of World War II.
    Surviving are his mother; his wife, Jean Hamilton Ackerman; two daughters, Mrs. Loren (Connie) Rothacher, of Sardis, Ohio,  Route 2, and Mrs. Roger (Diane) Leasure, of Lewisville, Ohio, Route 1; one brother, Harold Ackerman, of Woodsfield; three sisters, Mrs. Eloise Smith, of Woodsfield; Mrs. Ruth Farmer, in England, and Mrs. Helen Strickling, of Woodsfield; one grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

Quaker City - Mr. Grover G. Stallings, 91, of Salesville died at 8:50 a.m. Thursday (Sept 16, 1976) at Barnesville General Hospital.  He was born Sept. 26, 1884 in Jackson County. W.Va. and was a retired farmer and a member of the Methodist Church

Surviving are his wife, Dulcie Danford Stallings, whom he married Feb. 28, 1914; two sons. Lester Stallings of New Concord and Ellis Stallings of Jonesville, Mich.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. 

The body was taken to the Eberle Funeral Home in Quaker City where friends may call Saturday.  Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with burial in Friends Cemetery.

Weldon Brownfield, Sr., 57, of 3238 Maplewood Ave., died today in his home. He was a driver 23 years for the Jeep Corp., retiring last year. Surviving are his sons, Weldon, Jr., Donald, Ronald, Robert, David, James, Richard and Charles; daughters, Debbie, Dianne and Mrs. Linda Goodrich; brother, Stewart and mother, Nora Brownfield. Services will be at 1:30 p. m. Wednesday in the Foth Mortuary, Jefferson Avenue, where the body will be after 2 p. m. Tuesday.

 

Icie Elizabeth Hendershot nee Miller

Mrs. Icie Elizabeth Hendershot, 76, of Germantown, died on arrival at Marietta Memorial Hospital at four o clock Friday afternoon, April 2, 1976. She was born October 27, 1899, at Germantown, a daughter of the late Elwood and Rosie Devine Miller. On February 21, 1917, she married George M. Hendershot, who preceded her in death, as did one son, three brothers and a sister.

One son and four daughters survive, Brady Hendershot, Mrs. Jessie Kehl and Mrs. Goldie Myers, all of Lower Salem Route 2; Mrs. Fay Wittekind, of Marietta Route 4; and Mrs. Marjorie Reed, of Marietta.

Mrs. Hendershot spent all her life in the Germantown community. She was a member of Dalzell Church of Christ.

Services were held Monday afternoon at 12:30 o clock in the McClure-Schafer Funeral Home, Marietta, with additional services at 1:30 o clock, in the Dalzell Church of Christ, with Minister Jesse Nutter officiating. Burial was in Dalzell Cemetery.

 

Allen Edwin Highman

Allen Edwin Highman , 61, of 8218 Norwalk Road, Litchfield, Ohio died Monday morning, March 8,1976 in Medina Community Hospital. He was born near Graysville, Ohio, September 10,1914, a son of the late  A. H.  and Minnie Lucas Highman.
Mr. Highman was a member of the Litchfield United Church of Christ Congregational and Masonic Lodge No. 385. He had been self-employed since retiring, after twenty years employed with the Gulf Oil Company.

Surviving are his wife, Bessie Craig Highman; three daughters, Mrs. Irma Ensign, of Sullivan, Ohio; Mrs. JoAnn Turner, of Medina and Mrs. Kathy Myers, of Spencer, Ohio; five sons, Richard Highman, of Sharon Center, Ohio; James, Paul, Kenneth and Ralph Highman, of Litchfield; eight grandchildren;  one sister, Mrs. Thelma Gibbons, of Woodsfield; two brothers, Burdette Highman, of Zanesville and Everett Highman, of St. Petersburg, Florida; his stepmother, Mrs. Alma Highman, and half brother, Ray Highman, of  Woodsfield, Ohio.

Services were held  Wednesday afternoon, March 10th, at 1:30 o'clock at the Litchfield United Church of Christ Congregational with Rev. Stanley Robinson officiating. Burial was in Litchfield Cemetery with The Waite and Son Memorial Home of Medina in charge.

 

Samuel Everett Jones

Samuel Everett Jones, 88, resident of 5-23rd St., McMechen, died Saturday at Ohio Valley General Hospital, Wheeling ,WV.

Preceded in death by his wife Ella Hossman Jones, February 26, 1972, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Roy (Alice) Myers of Sardis; two brothers, Orville S. of Bridgeport and Homer E. of Sardis.

Friends will be received at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Marshall St., McMechen, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with burial in Halcyon Hills Memorial Gardens, Sherrard, WV.

BARNESVILLE---Clyde Carpenter, 86, 353 Church Street, died at 3:35 A.M. today (Jan. 14) at Barnesville Hospital.

He was born March 10, 1889, in Monroe County, the son of the late William and Margaret Crawford Carpenter, and was a member of the United Methodist Church and charter member of Barnesville American Legion Post 168. He was a veteran of World War 1 and an associate member of Barnesville Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Carpenter leaves one brother, Robert of Zanesville; three step-daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Opal) Brown, Barnesville, Mrs. Dallas (Shelda) Adkins, Belmont R.D. and Mrs. A.D. Fred (Norma) Hausch, Barberton.

Friends may call at Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday.

Services will be at 1:30 P.M. at the funeral home with Rev. David Smith officiating. Other arrangements are incomplete.

His wife, the former Blanche Todd, died in 1947 and four brothers and five sisters are deceased.

QUAKER CITY--Clarence Carpenter, 82, died at 7 A.M. Friday (Nov. 26, 1976) in Barnesville Hospital.

Mr. Carpenter made his home with Dale Mayberry, of Quaker City. He was born in Monroe County Jan. 15, 1894, a son of Daniel and Eliza Ann Carpenter.

A retired coal miner, Mr. Carpenter leaves several nieces and nephews. Two sisters and one brother are deceased.

Friends may call at the Eberle Funeral Home, Quaker City, from 7 until 9 P.M. Saturday, where services will be held Sunday at 2 P.M. with the Rev. Mary Scales officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery here.

QUAKER CITY--James Neuhart, 61, of Batesville, died today at 4 A.M. (June 29, 1976) at Barnesville Hospital.

He was born in Byesville, May 8, 1915, son of F. A. Neuhart and the late Hazel Mercer Neuhart. He worked for a number of years at Floyd's Lumber Mill, Quaker City, and was a member of the VFW of Barnesville and the American Legion Post 578 of Batesville. In addition to his father, Mr. Neuhart leaves a daughter, Mrs. Sandra Clift of Zanesville; a son, Virgil Neuhart of California; seven grandchildren; four brothers, Ralph of Cambridge, Ray of Columbus, Jack of California and Richard of Batesville; and a sister, Mrs. Marie Morris of Canton.

A brother and a sister are deceased. Services will be Thursday at 1 P.M. at the Eberle Funeral Home, Quaker City, where friends may call Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery.

George Cox, 80, of 711 Hall St., died Friday at his home. He was born in Spencer County, Ind., had operated a grocery at 8th and Hall Streets for 40 years, was a member of the Breckenridge Street United Methodist Church, was superintendent of the Sunday School for 23 years. He also was assistant teacher of the Wesley Men's Class, an organizer of the old Gospel Mission and a member of the board for 50 years.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Bell Cox, three sons, William Cox of Mathiston, Miss., and Robert and Paul Cox, both of Owensboro; four daughters, Georgia Dantic, Evelyn Duncan and Clara Alexander, all of Owensboro and Doris Bennett of Irvington; 16 grandchilren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rose Chappel of Tell City, Ind; and a half-sister , Emma Edwards of Long Beach, Calif.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Breckenridge Street United Methodist Church. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation after 5 p.m. today at Delbert J. Glenn Funeral Home.

Hoge, Mrs. Helen Korner, 78, of 121 North Paul Street, died Thursday afternoon, February 12, 1976, in Barnesville Hospital, following a heart attack. She was born July 12, 1896, the daughter of the late Dr. Alexander and Florence Dorsey Korner. Mrs. Hoge was a member of the Woodsfield United Methodist Church and a retired school teacher.

Preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Hoge, October 20, 1970, and one sister, Miss Gertrude Korner, March 30, 1974, she is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Sunday afternoon, February 15th at two o'clock, in the Bauer and Turner Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Paul Price, officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.

Lemuel and Clara Farra Lippencott. She was married to Charles R. Hardy, who died in October 1948. Mrs. Hardy was a member of the Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are five sons, Rueben Hardy and Richard Hardy, of  Zanesville; Raymond Hardy, of Cambridge; Charles Hardy, Jr., of Mansfield and Robert Hardy, of Coshocton, Route 4;  four daughters, Mrs. Mary Ellen Ford, of Zanesville; Mrs. Florence Hayes, of Coshocton, Route 4; Mrs. Dorothy Snell, of Newscomerstown; and Mrs. Betty Gill, of Warren; one sister, Mrs. Tillie
Bates, of Shadyside; thirty-three grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Two sisters and five grandchildren preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held in the Thorn Funeral Home at Cambridge on Wednesday afternoon, January 21st, at one o'clock, with the Rev. Curtis A. Arnold officiating. Burial was in Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.

Jones, Lewis Webster, 91, of 810 Timberlane, Galion, Ohio, formerly of Cambridge, died Sunday afternoon, November 21, 1976 at 3:30 o'clock in Galion Community Hospital, following an extended illness. He was born in Sardis, February 27,1885, the son of the late Samuel and Mary Rush Jones. Mr. Jones was a glass packer for Cambridge Glass Company for forty years. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church of Cambridge.

Surviving are two sons; the Rev. Herman Jones, of Galion and the Rev. Clarence F. Jones of Lima; two daughters, Mrs. Opal M. Tucker, of Canton, and Mrs. Alice Gill of Cambridge; thirteen grandchildren; forty-three great grandchildren; twenty-four great-great grandchildren, and two sisters; Mrs.Nonie Snell of Woodsfield, and Mrs. Nola Jones, of Canton.

His wife, the former Birdie Wright, died in 1966. One son, three brothers and two sisters are also deceased.

Services were held Wednesday afternoon, November 24th, at 1:30 o'clock in the Free Methodist Church at Cambridge. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Byesville.

Edwards, Byron Vernon (Slim), 57, of 331 South Seventh Street, Marietta, died Wednesday morning, February 4, 1976, at 3:30 o'clock, after a several weeks illness. He was born February 15, 1918 at Leith Run, a son of Charles S. and Carrie Canary Edwards. Mr. Edwards was a mechanic, employed at Lowes Service Statioin, Marietta for thirty years. He was a member of American Legion Post No.64 and Moose Lodge No. 1823, Marietta.

In 1942, he married Phyllis J. Adkinson, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Richard McKenna of Whipple; two sons, John Edwards and Donn Edwards, of Marietta; seven grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Wilda Piatt, of Marietta, and his mother, Mrs. Carrie Edwards.

His father, one sister, one brother and two grandchildren preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at two o'clock in the Hadley Funeral Home at Marietta, with Rev. Jack Welch officiating. Burial was in New Matamoras Cemetery.

Fulton, Clarence Lybert, 85,of Macksburg, Route 1, died Wednesday noon, January 7, 1976. He was born October 19, 1890, at Lower Salem, the son of the late William David and Rose Schofield Fulton. Mr. Fulton was a retired farmer and a member of the Baptist Church.

On April 16, 1919, he married Claire Williams, who died August 29, 1975.

Two sons and one daughter survive; Glen M. Fulton, of Macksburg, Route; Leslie L. Fulton, of East Liverpool, and Mrs. Charles Wasson, of Macksburg, Route. There are nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, January 10th, at one o'clock', in the McClure-Schafer Funeral Home, Marietta, with Rev. Donald Schafer officiating. Burial was in Salem Township Cemetery, Washington County.

She was born in Guernsey County, December 17, 1896, the daughter of the late John and Anna Wineman Ulrich. Mrs. Gallagher was a former teacher in Belmont County and Faith, South Dakota, and Temperanceville postmistress.

Surviving are two sons, Joseph N. Gallagher, of Malaga, and Gerald M. Gallagher, of Lore City; two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Leola) Brown, of Newark, and Mrs. Thomas (Martha) Perry, of Reynoldsburg; two step-daughters, Mrs. Everett (Mary) Starr, of Woodsfield, and Mrs. Walter (Pearl) Reischman, of Barnesville; one half-sister, Mrs. Pearl Tidrick, of Cambridge; one half-brother, Fred Van Note, of Kansas City, Kansas; twenty grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Her husband, George Walter Gallagher, died September 4, 1953. One son also preceded her in death.

Friends were received at the Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home in Barnesville, with the Eberle Funeral Home of Quaker City in charge of arrangements. The Rosary was recited at eight o'clock in the Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home in Barnesville. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday morning at ten o'clock in St. Mary's Catholic Church at Temperanceville, with Rev. Vincent Huber officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Temperanceville.

Surviving are her husband, Walter Gibson; one daughter, Ruth Ann Garrett of Route 3, Millersburg; four sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Virginia) Knight, of Bannock; Mrs. Elmer (Adelia) Hoops, of Woodsfield; Mrs. William (Alta) Copeland, of Salem; and Mrs. Paul (Alma) Jumps, of Canton; and two grandsons.

Two sisters are deceased.

and Estelle Dillon Dunn. Mrs. Grammer was a member of First United Methodist Church, Martins Ferry; the Friendship Class of the church; and Martins Ferry Lady Elks.

Surviving are her husband, Paul A, Grammer; two daughters, Terri J. Haid, of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Mrs. Gayle E. Malizia, of Tallmadge, Ohio; one brother, Earl Dunn, of Orlando, Florida; one sister, Mrs. Gwen Cecil, of Warner-Robins, Georgia, and five grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday afternoon, November 16th at two o'clock, in the Keller Funeral Home at Martins Ferry, with the Rev. Kenneth Evans officiating. Burial was in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.

Maude Perry Elliott. A veteran of World War II, he was past Commander of Monroe Post No. 87, American Legion; Past  Chefs-de-Gere of the 40 et B; a member of St. Sylvester's Church and Knights of Columbus. He also, was president of the Civil Service Employees Association.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys Schumacher Elliott; four daughters, Mrs. Wilbert (Pat) Carpenter, of Marshallsville, Ohio; Mrs. Robert (Marybel) Smithberger, of Sunbury, Ohio; Mrs. Melvin (Judy) Kemp, of Bethesda, and Mrs. Robert (Harriet) Furbee, of Gahanna; one son, Terry Elliott of  Woodsfield; one sister, Mrs. George (Althea) Schultz, of Hilltop Lakes, Texas; one brother, Glenn Elliott, of Massillon; three step-daughters, Mrs.John (Dianne) Kenney, of New Albany, Ohio; Mrs. John (Judith) Lowther, of Washington, Ohio, and Mrs. Bud (Carla) Armstrong, of Pataskala; a step-son, Herb Pfeffer, of Upper Arlington, Ohio; fourteen grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille Haren Elliott, on December 5, 1971.

Mass of Participation was held Saturday morning at eleven o'clock in St. Sylvester's Church, with Msgr. Robert  A. Brown officiating. Burial was in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Ozark. Rosary devotions were held Friday evening at the Michner Funeral Home.

 

George H. Hines

George H. Hines of Route 5 Greensburg, Pa. died Thursday afternoon, Dec 16,1976.   He was born February 3, 1898 in Lewisville, Ohio, the son of the late Lelander and Carrie Morrison Hines.

Mr. Hines is survived by his wife Bernice Stoffel Hines; three daughters, Mrs. Helen Richardson, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Mrs. Georgia Taylor, of San Diego, California; and Mrs. Hazel Palmer, of Route 5, Greensburg, Pa.; two sons, Charles H. Hines, of Plesant Unity, Pa., and Phillip M. Hines, of Route 5 Greensburg; twenty one grandchildren, six great grandchildren,

and three brothers, James Hines, of Graysville, Ohio, Clifford Hines and Lonnie Hines , of Lewisville, Ohio.

Services were held Sunday, December 19th at the James P. Gaut Funeral Home, Plesant Unity, Pa.

    Mrs. Ora Hamilton, age 77, of Route 1, Woodsfield, died Saturday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Deloras Confer at Delaware, Ohio.
    Mrs. Hamilton was born December 16, 1899, in Monroe County, Ohio, the daughter of John and Rose Agin Bott, and was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Hamilton, in August 1969.
    Mrs. Hamilton was a member of Moffatt Fletchers Methodist Church.
    She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Erma Jean Ackerman, of Woodsfield, Mrs. Deloras Confer, of Delaware, Ohio; one son, Harley Hamilton, of Route 1, Woodsfield; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
    Friends were received at Bauer and Turner Funeral Home where services were held Tuesday afternoon with the Reverend Tom Clark officiating.
    Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Jackson Ridge.

HOMER C., age 89, of 1891 Walnut St. SE, East Sparta, passed away Wednesday  morning [SUBMITTER'S NOTE: 18 Nov 1978] in Aultman Hospital after an extended illness. He was born in Monroe County and had been a resident of East Sparta for 74 years. He retired in 1958 from Spartek, Inc. and then was Supt. of the East Sparta Water Works for 18 years. He was a former Pike Twp. Trustee and also served on the East Sparta Board of Education. Preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Pearl Schaub, on Nov. 5, 1972. Survived by one daughter, Mrs. Howard (Viola) Inboden of East Sparta, and one grandson. Services will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 p.m.  in the Gordon Funeral Home in East Sparta with Rev. William Moody officiating.  Interment in Fort Laurens Cemetery in Bolivar.

SUMMERFIELD---Services for Ellis D. (Pete) Leach, 83, will be at 1 P.M. Friday at Brubach Funeral Home. Evang. J. Bernard Mason will officiate and burial will be in Eastern Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by Summerfield American Legion.

A retired farmer, Mr. Leach died at 10:45 A.M. Tuesday (Jan. 18, 1977) at his home following a long illness.

He was born Dec. 19, 1893, in Noble County, the son of the late Samuel and Angelic Carpenter Leach, and was a member of Bates Hill Church of Christ and Summerfield American Legion Post. He was a World War 1 veteran.

Mr. Leach leaves four daughters, Mrs. Charles (Betty) Casey, MT. Ephriam, Miss Phyllis Leach of the home, Mrs. Carl (Edith) Bates, West Lafayette, Mrs. John (Nancy) Moore, Coshocton; one son Clinton of West Lafayette; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Kate Flood and Mrs. Jennie Flood, both of Zanesville, Mrs. Harriett Carpenter, Uhrichsville; and two brothers, Acel (Ace) Leach and Arch Leach, both of Quaker City. His wife, Maude died in April 1973.

Services will be held at 1 P.M. Sunday at Brubach Funeral Home in Summerfield with the Rev. Phillip Golden officiating. Burial will be in Eastern Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Saturday in the funeral home.

Wilber E. Briggs, 49, of New Concord, Route 1, died Wednesday night, May 25, 1977, of an apparent heart attack at the Clow Pipe Plant, Coshocton, Ohio. Born December 30, 1927 on Woodsfield Route 1, he was a son of the late Isaac and Fay Agin Briggs. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Piatt Briggs; one son, Richard Briggs, of West Lafayette, Ohio; one daughter, Miss Joyce Briggs, of West Lafayette; one brother, Ransom Briggs, of Ashland; one sister, Mrs. John Piatt, of Woodsfield, Route 1, and one grandson. Friends were received at the Bauer and Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, on Friday. Services were held in their Chapel on saturday afternoon at four o'clock with the Rev. Thos. W. Clark officiating. Burial was in the Moffette Cemetery on Woodsfield Cemetery Route 1

 

Nancy Ridgway Schwartz

Mrs. Nancy Ridgway Schwartz, 89, 244 W. Columbia St. died at Aultman Hospital in Canton at 8:30 a.m. today following a one-week illness. A member of Christ United Methodist Church, Mrs. Schwartz was born in Rinards Mills July 17, 1887 to Andrew W. and Nancy Ridgway and had lived in this area for 42 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles H.

Surviving are two daughters, Miss Nina Schwartz and Mrs. Beulah Meyer, both of Alliance; a son, Forrest of Poland; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  She was also preceded by a son, Meryl in 1932. Services will be held on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Cassaday and Turkle Funeral Home with Dr. John Norton Williams of First Christian Church officiating.  Burial will be in Fairmount Memorial Park. There are no calling hours.

Passed away early Thursday, morning July 21, 1977, at Saginaw General Hospital after a lingering illness. Age 64 years. He was born May 16, 1913, in Middleport, Ohio. He was a member of the Swan Valley United Methodist Church, the Solar Lodge No. 592 of Saginaw, also the Evangeline Chapter of the Eastern Star in Middleport, Ohio. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed by the Grey Iron Foundry for 27 years, retiring in June of 1976. He married Katie Turner Dec. 26, 1942 in Toledo, Ohio. She survives him. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will take place 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Case Chapel, 409 Adams St. Rev. Terry Allen will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The Solar Lodge No. 592 will conduct a commital service. Friends may call at the chapel from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday.

    She was born June 1, 1883, at Lewisville, Ohio, the daughter of Michael and Mollie Frank Young. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ at Lewisville. Her husband, C. B. Taylor, died in 1962.
    She leaves several nieces and nephews.

Cora Haney, 82, of 415 E. Marietta St., Woodsfield, Ohio, died Wednesday, February 15, 1978, in Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ.

Surviving are her husband, James O. Haney; two sons, Austin of Akron, Ohio and Leslie of Ravenna, Ohio; four daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Carrie) Boney of Canton, Ohio, Mrs. Boyd (Violet) Ring of Beallsville, Mrs. Emil (Anna) Piatt of Marietta, Ohio and Mrs. Ray (Grace) Cline of Lima, Ohio; 30 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.

Services were held Saturday in Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ, Graysville, Ohio. Interment in Pleasant Ridge Church

James O. Haney, age 93, formerly of East Marietta Street, Woodsfield, Ohio died Tuesday afternoon July 7, 1987 at the home of his daughter Mrs. Ray (Grace) Cline at Newport, Ohio. He was born Feb. 6, 1894 at Graysville, OH, the son of the late George F. & Anna Elizabeth Dalrymple Haney. He was a retired farmer & a member of the Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife Cora Williams Haney in 1978 & two sons - Ralph Haney & an infant son, also 9 brothers & sisters, 1granddaughter, and 1 great grandson.

He is survived by 2 sons: Austin Haney, Akron Ohio; Lesle Haney, Ravenna, Ohio; 4 daughters - Mrs. Elmer (Corrie) Boney, Canton; Mrs. Emil (Anna) Piatt, Marietta; Mrs. Ray (Grace) Cline, Newport, Ohio; Mrs. Boyd (Violet) Ring, Beallsville, Ohio; 30 grandchildren and also several great-grandchildren.

Friends were received at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, Thursday, July 9, 1987 where funeral services will be held Friday, July 10, 1987 with Minister Franklin Love officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge  Cemetery, Graysville.

 

Ida Matilda Perry nee Feioch

Mrs. Ida M. Perry, 90, of 823 Green Ave SW was pronounced dead on arrival at Massillon City Hospital Monday at 10 a.m. She was taken to the hospital by Stark Ambulance Service. Her death followed a brief illness. Mrs. Perry was born in Woodsfield in Monroe County and lived in Massillon for 60 years. She was the widow of Joseph Perry who died in May, 1947. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church and came to Massillon from Tarentum, Pa.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Willard (Dorothy) Lantz of Massillon and Mrs. Audrey Lynch of Warren: two sons, Joseph Perry and Dale Perry, both of Massillon; a sister Mrs. Mary Evans of Pompano Beach, Fla.; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Gordon-Shaidnagle-Hollinger Funeral Home with the officiating pastor to be named later. Interment will be made in Massillon Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

 

Mark Anthony Blackstone

Mark Anthony Blackstone, 14, of Route 1, Lewisville died Wednesday, November 22,1978, following a farm equipment accident. He was born January 19, 1964, at Barnesville, the son of Charles Franklin (Frank) and Wanda Henthorn Blackstone. Mark was an eighth grade student at Skyvue School and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Burkhart.

Surviving in addition to his parents are four brothers, Charles Jr., Gregory, Mitchell and Jason, of the home; four sisters, Rebecca, Marilyn, Pamela and Karen, of the home; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mildred Blackstone of Lewisville, Route 1.

Rosary devotions were held on Friday. Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday morning with burial in the St. Joseph's Church Cemetery.

 

T. K. (Keyser) Brownfield

Funeral services for T. K. (Keyser) Brownfield, 77, were held on Wednesday March 15 at 1 p. m. at the Henderson-Johnson Funeral Home in Newark. He passed away at Licking Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient one week. He was a retired employee of the Kaiser Aluminum at Newark. He was the last member of a family of ten children. He was born in Monroe County March 1, 1901, a son of the late Stephen and Lena Wells Brownfield.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred Carpenter Brownfield; two sons, Irvin A. of Florida and Harley D. of Newark; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Two sons preceded him in death.

Burial was made in Newark Memorial Gardens at Newark.

Among those attending the services were Adelia Graham, Mary Bowen, Josephine Lucas, Gladys Brownfield, Stella Mitchell, Bessie Bunting, Mary Lou Broomhall and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Starr, all of Barnesville; May Huffman and Chloe Kirkbride of Jerusalem and Helen Larrick of Cambridge.

Mrs. Emma L. Hinderlong, 86, of Sardis died Thursday morning, March 1, in Marietta Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 5, 1892, at Sardis, a daughter of the late Edward and Anna Elizabeth Rufener Yoss.
Mrs. Hinderlong was a member Of The Sardis Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hinderlong, in 1964, and a son Sterling Hinderlong, in 1977.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Bernard (Elda) Wohnhas, of Sardis; one sister, Mrs. Collie Stine, of New Martinsville; one brother, Eugene Yoss, of Creston; three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at The Rush Funeral Home, Sardis, on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, with Dillon Bayes officiating. Burial was in Sardis Cemetery.

Wilbur Leroy Hogue, 68, of Graysville Rt. 1, died Monday evening, July 9, 1978 at 10:30 p.m. in Barnesville Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born Dec 18, 1910, the son of John Blanchard and Grace Hartshorn Hogue. Mr. Hogue was a retired oil field worker and a member of the Hartshorn Ridge Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Smith Hogue; a daughter, Ruth Ella Severns, of Lewisville, Rt 1; a son James Coy Hogue, of Graysville, Rt. 1; three brothers, Milford Hogue of San Jose ,  Calif.;  Donald S. Hogue of Lewisville Rt. 2, and John Hogue Jr., of Columbus: six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Friends were received at the Gardner Funeral Home in Woodsfield on Wednesday. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the Hartshorn Ridge Church of Christ, with minister Charles Hendershot officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with the Gardner Funeral Home in charge.

     He was born February 10, 1907, in Belmont County, the son of the late Ezra and Cora Pittman Kirkbride.

     Mr. Kirkbride was a member of the Bush Church of Christ near Malaga.

Mrs. Leach leaves two daughters, Mrs. Edna Stephen, Canton, and Mrs. Mary Baker, Lewisville R.D. 1; three sons, Roy Leach, Quaker City R.D. 1, Edward (Dick) Leach and Rodney Leach, both of Canton; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Goldie Carpenter, Batesville; and one brother, Joseph Carpenter, West Lafayette. Frances McCullick nee McCurdy

Mrs. Frances McCullick, 68, of 510 Cherry Ave., Williamstown, died on arrival at Marietta Memorial Hospital last night.

She was born Dec. 24, 1909 in Washington County, a daughter of the late Douglas and Clara Belle Medley McCurdy. She was married to Clyde McCullick who preceded her in death.

A daughter, Mrs. Patricia Hedrick of 634 Phillips St., and three sons, Donald McCullick of Barberton, Robert McCullick of Kalkaska, Mich.; and David McCullick of Gulfport, Miss., survive. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Jennie Rhodes of Thornton, Colo., and a brother, Walter McCurdy. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

There are 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Hannahs was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin in 1961. She leaves her daughter, Mrs. Roger (Emma) Buck of Lower Salem R.D. 1; a son, Edsel Hayes of Summerfield R.D.1; two sisters, Mrs. Olive Pierce of Quaker City R.D. 1 and Mrs. Shirley Delong of Woodsfield R.D. 3; a brother Oather Hayes of Barnesville R.D. 1; seven grandchildren. Three brothers are deceased.

Born May 17, 1900 in Monroe County, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Emily Jones Carpenter and was a member of Calais Church and the Summerfield American Legion Auxiliary.

She leaves her husband, Forest Hannahs, whom she married Nov. 18, 1916; six sons Gerald and Marvin of Little Rock, Ark., Roy of Salesville, Herman (Jake) of Pleasant City, Myron of Rootstown and Harlan (Toby) of Diamond; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Craig of Diamond and Mrs. Midge Loukas and Mrs, Myrle Lyons of North Canton; 38 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and three sisters, Ange Wehr of Batesville, Pauline Carpenter of Lewisville Route 2 and Mary Ann Coultas of Zanesville.

A native of Friend, Neb., he lived in Vallejo for 39 years. He was a retired appliance repairman at the Ed Pierce Electric Company.

Wear is survived by his wife, Mildred; four sons, Donald, Vernon and Larry, all of Vallejo and Ronald of Green Valley; two sisters, Mayme Mendenhall of Hastings, Neb., and Bernice Moore of Rogers, Ark.; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wiggins Funeral Home with the Rev. Hugh Stewart of the First Presbyterian Church officiating.

Private intombment will be in Skyview Memorial Lawn. Friends may call after 9 a.m. today at the Wiggins Funeral Home.

Clesson Cecil Morris, 80, of 306 Marion St., died at 9:30 a.m. yesterday in Marietta Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 15, 1898 at Wingett Run, a son of the late William and Emma Moose Morris.

He had lived in Marietta since 1971, moving here from Fenton, Mich. He was retired from the Fisher Body Division of General Motors. He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the Washington County Barracks No. 1079 to the Veterans of World War I.

Surviving are his wife, the former Ruth Dye, whom he married Nov. 6, 1971; a son Ray of Fenton, Mich.; two stepsons, Fred Dye of Marietta and John Dye of Youngstown; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Mary Sprague of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren, a great-grandson; 15 stepgrandchildren, and seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother Oval D. of Marietta.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Mary Steed, whom he married Nov. 14, 1922. She died Jan. 11, 1965. He was also preceded in death by a son, a stepson, three brothers and a sister.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, August 18, 1978 at United Methodist Church of Linden. Rev. James G. Simmons officiating. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Linden. Mr. Morris may be seen at the Bowles and Sons Funeral Home in Linden until 11:30 Friday, then he will be taken to the Church until time of services. Mr. Morris was born in Marietta, Ohio January 11, 1925, the son of Clesson C. Morris and Mary C. Steede. He spent his lifetime in the Fenton and Linden area. Mr. Morris married Patricia Murphy in Linden, MI., August 20, 1929,* and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Linden and the United Methodist Church Mens Club, a US Navy Veteran of World War II and spent 20 years as a home building contractor in the Linden and Fenton area, was a Boy Scout Committee Man for 12 years and was a manager of a Little League baseball team for 10 years.

Surviving are: wife, Anna Patricia; 2 sons, Randall C. of Grand Rapids, and Michael R. of Three Rivers; 3 daughters, Cheryl of Flint, Colleen at home and Kathy at home; grandson, Jason; father, Clesson C. of Marietta, Ohio; brother, Ray of Fenton.

Herbert Paulus dies here at age of 80

Herbert C. Paulus, 1221 West Palm avenue, a Redlands resident for 18 years, died here Friday at the age of 80.

Mr. Paulus, a native of Woodsfield, Ohio, became active in the community after moving to Redlands. He was a member of the Redlands Rotary club, Redlands Lodge 300 F & AM and affiliated with the Masonic order for 53 years; a member of Redlands Lawn Bowling club and Smiley Heights AARP chapter.

He served with the U.S. Navy during World War I.

Mr. Paulus leaves his wife, Ruth, of Redlands; a son, John L. Paulus, M.D., and a daughter, Mrs. Ruth A. Senour, both of Redlands; a brother, John L. Paulus of Massillon, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Niesz of Massillon and Mrs. Ethel Christman of Woodsfield, Ohio; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wedneday at the F. Arthur Cortner chapel with Rev. John D. Foerster, pastor of the First Evangelical Lutheran church, and officers of Redlands Masonic Lodge officiating. Entombment will be at Hillside Memorial Park.

The family suggests that friends who wish may make memorial contributions in Mr. Paulus' name to the Rotary Youth Fund, care of Roy Coble, P.O. Box 368, Redlands.

  Vesta Morris, route 3, Woodsfield died June 23,1979 at the Barnesville hospital. She was born in Tyler county, WV. April 02, 1918, a daughter of the late Adolph and Emma Barker Morris.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Morris and one brother Russell A. Morris, surviving are two daughters and three sons: Mrs. John (Clara) Crawford of Dover; Jesse Morris of Massion; Mrs. Edsel (Dorothy) Hannah s of Summerfield, Rt.1; Dale Morris of Woodsfield Rt.3 and Roger Morris of the home.

Thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.

One brother, Clarence Morris of Ashland, six sisters, Edna Huntsman of Toronto, Nellie Matz, Kathleen (Kathryn) Piatt, Bertha Longdon, Nettie McCammon all of Ashland, Estelle Schaub of Lewisville; one step-son Ermie Morris of Woodsfield, several nieces and nephews completes the family circle. Ruth Frances Booth nee Morris  

Services for Ruth Frances Booth, 54, of Lee Ave. Will be 1.p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Criss Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Cecil Shope officiating. Burial will be in cedar hill cemetery.

Mrs. Booth died Saturday afternoon at Licking Memorial Hospital. She was born Sept. 10, 1924 in Calais, Ohio, to the late Thurman and Gail (Leach) Morris.

She lived in Newark most of her life.

Her husband, Orville J. Booth died in 1969. Surviving are four sons: Rick Booth and Alva Booth, both of the home, and Mike and Larry Booth, both of Newark: three daughters; Mrs. Donald (Gail) Hess of Granville, and Patty and Anita Booth, both of the home; one sister, Mrs. Anita Ochoa of Detroit, Mich.; one brother Raymond Morris of Pataskala; and three grandchildren.

Calling hours are 7 to 9 tonight and 7 to 9 Tuesday in the funeral home.

He was born Aug 25, 1904 in Mt Ephraim, son of the late James and Mary Sayre Mendenhall.  He was a farmer and livestock dealer.  He was affiliated with Mt Ephraim United Methodist Church.

Mr Mendenhall leaves his wife, Ardith Danford Mendenhall of the home; a son John of the home; two daughters, Mrs Glen (Wilma) Bates of Sarahsville; and Mrs Austin (Ruth Anna) Hannahs of Sarahsville R.D. 1; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Joe of Canton and Calvin of Caldwell; two sisters, Mrs Angie Watson and Mrs Ida Bates, both of Caldwell.

January 8, 1979, in Wheeling Hospital.
He was born November 29, 1890, in Monroe County, Ohio, the son of the late William and Sadie Keevert.
He was a former owner and operator of the Woodsfield Hatchery, a member of The Methodist Church, Woodsfield, and a veteran of World War I.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 189, K of P Lodge, American Legion Post No. 87, World War I Veterans and the 40 & 8.
Surviving are his wife, Clara Walt Dickey; one son,  Dr. T.O.Dickey of Glen Dale; one daughter, Mrs. Thomas A. (Doris) Reese of Columbus; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services were held on Wednesday, January 10 in Woodsfield with Rev. Paul Price officiating.  Burial was in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.

He was born in Monroe County on Dec. 15, 1896, the son of Vincent and Eliza Gilmore Carpenter. He was a Protestant by faith. Mr. Carpenter was a veteran of World War I, a member of Eagles Lodge 937, Barnesville and American Legion Post 578, Batesville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Zelma, in 1976.

   Mrs. Dierkes was born April 8, 1898, in Clarington, a daughter of Jacob and Emma Wichterman Lude, and came here 56 years ago. She was a member of the First Federated Church of North Jackson and its King's Daughters Class and Women's Fellowship. Her husband, Wesley H., whom she married in June 1916, died in April 1978.

SPRINGFIELD Twp. - Ada Haught Morris, 84 of 2259 Mingo Av., died June 20 at Akron General Medical Center after a short illness.

She was born in Tyler Co., W. Va. and had lived in the Akron area for 70 years. Mrs. Morris had been employed with the Motor Cargo Company, retiring 15 years ago, and attended the Sawyerwood United Methodist Church.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, William H. and Kathleene Morris, of Akron; daughter, Mrs. Carl (Margie) Emery, of Barberton; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Florence Morris, Sistersville, W. Woodsfield-Hudson H. Workman, 91, of Lewisville, died Tuesday night at Barnesville Hospital. A retired coal miner, Mr. Workman was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ of Lewisville. He was born Dec. 14, 1888 in West Virginia, a son of John and Margaret Hull Workman.

His first wife, Vernice Heslop Workman, died in 1956 and his second wife, Elizabeth Belford Workman died in 1971.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Dorothy) Brown of Shadyside and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Bauer and Turner Funeral Home at Woodsfield where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Powhatan Cemetery.

THORNTON, Colo.---Geneva McCurdy Rode, 67, former resident of Marietta, died Saturday at Thornton Colo.

She was born at Marietta in 1913 to Douglas and Clara Bell McCurdy, Her home had been at Marietta before moving to Thornton seven years ago.

She was married to William Rode who preceded her in death.

She is survived by one stepson, Perry Rode of Thornton and one brother, Walter McCurdy of Marietta. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services and interment will be at Thornton.

 

Katherine Gale McCurdy nee Van Wey

Katherine Gale McCurdy, 91, former resident of 108 South Second St., died at 7:30 Friday night in Marietta Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 2, 1889 at Mile Run to Thomas and Mary Miller Van Wey. She was a member of the Willow Springs Chapel at Mile Run.

Oct. 3, 1908, she married Louis Roush, who preceded her in death. She was later married to Pearl McCurdy. He died in 1934.

She is survived by four grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and a number of nephews and nieces.

She was also preceded in death by one grandson, five brothers, four sisters and two sons, Carl and Homer Roush.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the McClure-Schafer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Valley Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from Monday morning until the hour of the service.

 

Jack Dick Perkins Sr.

A buyer for Morgan Engineering Co., Jack Dick Perkins Sr., 46, 27084 Lake Point Drive, Beloit, died Thursday evening at 8:50 p.m. at Cleveland University Hospital after a six-month illness.

Mr. Perkins was born May 14, 1934, in Salem and was a member of Westville Congregational Christian Church, the Sebring Masonic Lodge and the Order of Easter Star in Sebring.

His wife, Juanita (Lucas) Perkins, survives. Also surviving are three sons, Jeff Guildoo of Alliance and Jack Perkins Jr. and James Perkins, both of Beloit, and three grandchildren.

The Rev. Peter Matthewson will officiate services Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Gednetz Funeral Home with burial following in Highland Memorial Park. Calling hours are scheduled Saturday from 7-9 p.m.

TWO FREEPORT WOMEN KILLED IN CRASH NEAR CAMBRIDGE
The community of Freeport was stunned Friday when it learned two local women were killed in a three-vehicle crash near Cambridge. Killed about 4:15 p.m. after their car was struck by two other vehicles were Dorothy Bardall, 53, of Freeport and her passenger, Shirley Mae Hayes, 44, Rt.1, Freeport. Both women were returning home from work at March Electric, Division of Ametek, in Cambridge. According to the Cambridge Post of Highway Patrol, the Bardall car was struck almost head-on by a pickup truck driven by William C. Dietrich, 29, Newcomerstown, which went left of center on a slight curve. The Bardall car
was eastbound and the pickup was westbound. Another pickup truck driven by Cathy M. Parrish, 17, Kimbolton, which
was behind the Bardall vehicle, then plowed into both vehicles. The crash occurred on U.S. 22 about one mile east of the community of Center which is about six miles east of Cambridge. Dietrich was injured in the crash and was taken to Guernsey Memorial Hospital in Cambridge. Parrish was not injured. The mishap remains under investigation.

Services for Dorothy Bardall were held at 1 p.m. Monday from Freeport United Presbyterian Church with Revs. David Bartley and Paul Hamilton officiating. Burial was in  Greenmont Union Cemetery, Freeport.
Services for Shirley Hayes were held at 3 p.m. Monday from the funeral home with Rev. Robert Merritt officiating. Burial was in Londonderry Cemetery.
Dorothy was born in Cleveland, a daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Albert L. (Dorothy Davis) Krewson of Freeport. She was a member of the Freeport United Presbyterian Church and the Freeport Chapter Order of Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, William D. "Pete" ; and  son and two daughters, Mrs. Claude (Diane) Romshak, Rt.2, Freeport, Robert of Freeport, and Mrs. Alan (Carol) Tyson of Canton; a brother and sister, Keith Krewson of Walpole, Mass., and Mrs. Francis (Nancy) Simpson of Freeport; and nine grandchildren
Shirley was a daughter of Mrs. Mildred Showalter, Rt.1, Lore City, and the late Raymond Showalter. She was a member of the Oak Grove Calvary Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Dean; a son and daughter, Larry Allen and Darla Jo Hayes of the home; and three sisters, Mrs. Larry (Janet) Larrick, Rt.3, and Mrs. Bonnie Fairchild, both of Cambridge, and Mrs. Stanley (Charlene) Grimes of Fairview.

Leslie J. Staley, 49, of RD 1 Middlebourne, died Monday at Wetzel County Hospital. He was born January 10, 1931 in Wetzel County. He was the son of Leslie C. Staley and Vashti Fluharty Staley. He was a former construction worker, a Protestant, and a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are his parents, Leslie C. and Vashti Fluharty Staley; a daughter, Carla Staley of New Martinsville; a stepdaughter, Constance Greathouse Beegle of Colliers; two sisters, Mrs. Lee (Imogene) Fetty of Pine Grove and Mrs. Carl (Wanda) Lancaster of Porters Falls; two brothers, Karl of Reader and Robert of Middlebourne.

Friends were received at the Ratcliffe Funeral Home, New Martinsville, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, where services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday. Evangelist John Underwood officiated. Interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park, New Martinsville.

 

John Dale Stalder

JOHN DALE STALDER, son of W.O. and Lulu Bower Stalder, was born on April 24, 1906. He passed away at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Ne. at the age of seventy-three years, eleven months and twenty-three days.

Dale was born in Adams County, Iowa and spent most of his life in and around the Nodaway Community. He was united in marriage on April 1, 1940 to Frances Martin at Carson, North Dakota. To this union, one son, Larry Dean was born.

Dale worked as a carpenter, electrician and state hospital employee most of his life. He has been retired the past few years.

He is survived by his wife Frances, son Larry Dean, daughter-in-law Ann Marie, grandson, Shane Allen; four sisters, Ruby Greenfield of Villisca, Esther Anderson of Tarkio; Ruth Lampe of Winterset and Marie Pullen of Denver; one brother Harold of Dawnington, Penn; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, stepmother, one brother and grandson.

Services were held Saturday, April 19, 1980 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, Iowa with the Reverend Ray W. Thomspon officiating.

Music was provided by Mrs. Hartford Cooper, organist and Mr. Hartford Cooper, soloist. Musical, selections were Ivory Palaces and Life s Railway to Heaven , Mrs. Raymond Spring was in charge of the register book. Flowerbearers were Mr. and Mrs. Gene Kellison and Mrs. Rex Davis.

Honorary casketbearers were Julius March, Raymond Spring, Delmar Haley, Earl Goldsmith, Otto Heard, Glenn Miller and Stanley Johnson.

Casketbearers were Jerold Greenfield, Lee Fulton, Sam Maynard, Dennis Martin, Jim Hensley, Ed Greenfield, Donald Pullen and Roger Harmon.

Masonic rites were conducted by Iroquois Lodge No. 590.

Interment was in the Methodist Grove Cemetery, Adams County, Iowa.

 

Lillian M. Henry nee Woodring

The funeral of Mrs. Lillian M. Henry, 95, who died Monday, Sept. 15, at Bethesda Care Center, was held Thursday afternoon, Sept. 18 at the Marcy Chapel.

The Rev. Phillip Hayes of the First Christian church officiated. Lloyd Edwards sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," and Mrs. Lee Wagner was organist. The pallbearers were George Grauerholz, Don Hanson, Floyd Hite, Mike Hooker, Frank Pierce, and Wayne Sandberg. Burial was in Ashland Cemetery.

Lilly Mae Woodring, daughter of Nathan and Lavina Woodring, was born at Cortland on Jan. 6, 1885. At the age of 12 she moved with her family to Beatrice, and became a member of the Lutheran church when she was 16. She moved to Ashland in about 1940 and lived here the remainder of her life. From time to time she was employed as a practical nurse.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Stella Spurrier of Ashland and Mrs. Edna Walls of Rapid City, S.D.; one granddaughter, Claudine Ristich of Los Angeles; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Roy G. Drew; three husbands, Claud G. Drew, Alvin VanCurren, and Frank Henry; and four brothers.

 

Coughlan, Helen A. Coughlan, nee McManus

Coughlan, Helen A. McManus, 79, of Rd. 3, Elm Grove, died Thursday at home. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer J. Couglan in 1977. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. James (Maureen) Thompson with whom she resided; two sons, Elmer F. of Wheeling and Paul W. of Sterling Heights, Mich.; eight grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling, Thursday 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Final arrangements are incomplete.

 

Swisher, Katie A. Swisher, nee Turner

Passed away Monday evening, June 2, 1980, at her home after a lengthy illness. Age 70 years. Katie Turner was born Sept. 27, 1909, in Woodsfield, Ohio. She was married to Charles W. Swisher in 1942. He predeceased her in 1977. Mrs. Swisher was a member of the Eastern Stars Evangeline Chapter No. 172 of Middleport, Ohio. She was a member of the Swan Valley Methodist Church. Surviving are five sisters and one brother, Roger Turner, Olney, Ill.; Mrs. Bessie Walters, Saginaw; Billie Palmer, Gladwin; Bernice Starr, Toledo, Ohio; Mary Agin, Circleville, Ohio; Nell Jones, Graysville, Ohio; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Case Chapel, 409 Adams St. Rev. Gordon Nusz will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the chapel from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
