Early Marriage Records of Monroe County, Ohio
When the Monroe County courthouse burned in
1867, over 50 years of marriage records were lost. For the past several years,
Ruth Hogue has worked diligently on a project to reconstruct a database of some
of the marriages that occurred in Monroe County during that time period. Ruth
has gleaned information from newspapers, obituaries, family Bibles, and family
histories. Realizing this project can never be fully complete, we have decided
to publish Ruth s current database. We are now compiling these records into a
book and hope to publish it in the latter part of 200?. If you have marriage
records you can contribute, please do so. We will still be adding to the book
over the next few months. We are looking specifically for marriages that
occurred in Monroe County during the years before 1867. We ll keep you updated
on our progress.
