Source: NAMES OF EARLY RESIDENTS OF THE REUBENS,
IDAHO AREA TAKEN FROM THE RECORDS OF THE MODERN WOODMAN OF AMERICA, COVERING A
PERIOD FROM APPROXIMATELY 1902 TO 1923 (reproduced from material in the
collections of the Idaho State Historical Society)
The fraternal and mutual benefit groups such as this were
very popular in the early days of the prairie.
This group met first in Kippen, then in Chesley, and after the town of
Reubens was founded moved to a hall there.
There are not cards of application for all the names, but we have
extracted from the cards and the other records what information was given.
DONNELLY, Andrew Jack: Chesley; joined in 1901; born Sept 9, 1883
in Prescott, Ark.; benf. wife Eva. Letter appended.
(Letterhead) "P. Donnelly, dealer in Choice
Groceries, Teas & Coffees a Specialty, 1845 H Street, Bet. 19th & 20th
Aves., (Sunset), San Francisco"
2nd. Well son you
wanted to know how your Father died. He
was killed three months before you were born.
Your Father was going home to dinner and two men were fighting on the
depot and the man struck at the other one and your father was hit over the head
with a neck yoke of a wagon and his skull was crushed in and he died in ten
days afterward. The man was tried for
it after and it was proved that it was an accident as he did not know your
Father at all. Your Father was a hard
working honest man and no doubts would be living today only for that
accident. You can show this to the
Woodmen of the World. I can vouch fro
[sic] this. Patrick Donnelly**

adoptive father of Andrew Jack Donnelly, regarding Andrew's biological father.
