Biographical Sketch of Vinton
Allen McCurdy
This sketch is quoted from Historical
Genealogy of the McCurdy Family compiled by Delmer Ellsworth Ellwood McCurdy,
published by W. D. McCurdy. --as published in 1909.
Vinton Allen McCurdy, born Aug. 10, 1858, was a painter by
occupation but later became a brakeman on the M.P. & C.R.R. in Ohio. In 1881, he went to Illinois and worked on
the C. & R.I.R.R. for several years, but was seriously injured by falling
between the cars and nearly severed one leg from his body. When he became well,
that leg was 3 inches shorter than the other, so the company gave him the
position of passenger conductor which he still holds.
