Biographical Sketch of Patrick Donnelly

Ben F. Dixon's book 1932, Our Book:  Our Ancestors, Ourselves, and Our Children , Page 191, says:

Patrick Donnelly was born in Ireland, Sept. 8, 1840. He came to this country as a young man, and enlisted in the U.S. Cavalry for service in the Civil War. He enlisted under the name of Jack Love. It is supposed that he ran away from the Army, as he never talked of his service, and never tried to get a pension from the government. What campaigns he participated in is unknown, but in one skirmish he received a bullet wound through the neck.

He was a railroad and building contractor, and traveled through the west making money hand over fist, and spending it freely. He was in Texas in 1871, Arkansas, 1873, Washington, 1885, Kansas, 1887, Idaho about 1890, and lived in California from 1894 to 1907. He died in San Francisco, Jan. 6, 1913, and was buried in Cypress Lawn Cemetery.

He married at Sanduskay, Iowa, July 2, 1870, Catherine Ann Kinkade, daughter of Ebenezer Kinkade and Sarah Spillman. She was born at Shelbyville, Ind., Aug. 12, 1853. They had no issue, but reared three adopted children.
