Biographical Sketch of Lucy Herlan

Lucy Herlan attended this Methodist Church in the central area of Calais when she was a teenager.  At that time she was living with her sister Maria (pronounced Mariah but who often was just called "Ri") who had tuberculosis.  Maria was a dressmaker, and Lucy helped her with the weaving, sewing, and housework during her illness.  When Maria died in 1877 just a couple weeks before her 37th birthday, Lucy returned home to live with her parents, Jane (Mendenhall) and Jakob Herlan until she married Georg Schaub in 1881.
