Hotel Smith taken about 1906

The above photo of the Hotel Smith was taken from a book titled, Souvenir of Woodsfield and Monroe County 1906 issued by the newspaper, The Monroe County Republician, Woodsfield, Ohio in 1906. The hotel is about 7 years old at this time. A full page is devoted to the above photo, two photos of the interior of the hotel and text describing the facility as follows:

There is no enterprise or business place that does more toward the general advertising and upbuilding of the town than a first class hotel. Woodsfield is particularly fortunate in this direction in the possession of the Smith Hotel, one of the finest, most modern and up-to-date Hotels for a town of this size to be found in the State of Ohio.

Mrs. Laura M. Smith, the owner and proprietress, built the Hotel about 7 years ago, and that she thoroughly understood the needs and requirements of the traveling public is shown in the general plan and equipment of the Hotel. A handsome three story buff brick building with 42 rooms, all not only modernly, but handsomely furnished with steam heat and electric light and hot and cold water and bath on every floor. The office is finished in oak and equipped with every convenience for the traveling public. The dining room, not large enough to be dreary, but just the size to be cozy, furnishes to the hungry guest every delicacy that the market or season affords.

Woodsfield is justly proud of the Smith Hotel, and its continually increasing patronage shows for itself that the traveling public appreciate it as well.
