Sardis during the 1936 Flood

The church is the upper right corner of the photo is the Sardis United Methodist church.  The street that runs from the church toward the river is Monroe Street.  The street that runs perpendicular to Monroe Street is Marietta Street.  It is underwater on this picture but it would be in approximately the middle of the photo.

The big white house in the foreground at the left corner of the picture was the hotel.  It is still standing.

The flat square building on the upper left is the Case Building.  It is located at the intersection of Mound and Muskingum Street.  It is by the town pump which was designated an historical monument by the Ohio Bicentennial Commission.

At one time, Sardis had a Water Street, but after years of flooding everything on the street was gone.  The 1936 flood took the last building.
