Scott McVay wrote: “I have located Martha MECEY, wife of Benjamin MEVEY of Cecil, Md. She is on FindAGrave in McDonald, Pennsylvania. Her grave (stone) lists her as Martha Passmore MEVEY. You may add this information to my Trees regarding those two individuals.”  Note: MEVEY is a variant spelling of McVey.

Benjamin McVay was born in 1720 in Scotland to John McVeagh (1700-1762) and Mary Ann McCarthy-McVeagh (also, 1700-1762). Benjamin died 22 February 1781 in Cecil, Maryland, USA. The name McVay appears spelled as McVey, Mevey, and McVeagh in various records. Benjamin McVeagh/McVay married Martha Passmore on 16 June 1753 in New Castle, Delaware, USA. Martha Passmore was born in 1728 in Chester, Queen Anne’s County, Maryland and died in 1789 in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, USA. Her date of death that appears on her tombstone, a photograph of which was posted on the Ancestry.com website, is clear with respect to her and her husband’s name. Martha’s date of death, however, is not clear and could be 1786 or 1789. Martha’s parents were John Passmore (1704-1789) and Elizabeth Harris (1710-1760).   Note submitted by Richard E.
