This photograph shows the high level of drilling and production of oil near Lewisville, Ohio in the first decade of the 19^th century. This photo shows the eastern suburb of Lewisville, Ohio. The town of Lewisville is about mile to the left of the picture. Woodsfield is about 7 miles to the east (to the right) of the picture. Just beyond the pasture in the foreground of the picture is a small creek, a branch of Sunfish Creek. Just beyond the larger houses in the picture is the narrow-gauge railroad which runs the width of the picture. Ohio Route # 78 now follows this course.
