May Day, 1931

In the year 2000 Aunt Jan gave me several documents including one that certified her as a member of the cradle roll department of the Simpson M. E. Sunday School on March 12, 1914. I have her Certificate of Promotion to High School, her invitation to commencement exercises, and her diploma from the Academy of the Immaculate Conception, Mount Marie, Canton, Ohio, June 16, 1932. This May Day would have been at Mount Marie. The school later became Canton Central Catholic High School.

My Memory: When I went to Belden School (grades 1 through 8), we also had an annual May Day program. Each of the classes would do a dance, a song, or a skit. Frequently I did acrobat. The eighth grade girls always danced around a May Pole weaving the streamers of various colors. In 2nd grade Alicia Vega and I sat under the May Pole as it was being interlaced.
