Elton Lester Latta (Uncle Doc)

and his wife

Thelma (Sonnhalter) Latta (Aunt Sunni)

ca summer, 1934

My cousins Donnie and David Latta and I always called Elton "Uncle Doc." None of us know how that knickname originated as he didn't have a medical degree. He was an engineer.

My Aunti Sunni spotted Uncle Doc when he was a very handsome young man driving a yellow Ford convertible that they called the "Yellow Cinderella." I think this is a picture of the car in the driveway of the home owned by Elton's parents David and Effie Latta from 1947-1991 at 2200 Broad Avenue, Canton, Ohio. The home on Broad Avenue had a lot of ground, a garden, a small orchard, many flower beds, and a flower room (called a "posey" room by Grandma--Effie Jane Schaub Latta). Additional buildings included a garage, a workshop and a green house. Grandpa (David Wilson Latta) kept bee hives too. This house had the most wonderful rooms upstairs and in the basement for us three grandkids to explore and to play in.
