The Bulley Mansion*
Canton, Ohio
home of the family of
David Wilson and Effie Jane (Schaub) Latta
ca 1911
Other Homes: In 1910 the
Latta family lived at 3l6 l/2 S. Hartford St., Canton, then moved a few houses
down to 308. From there the family moved
to the Bulley Mansion on South Cherry (above
picture), then located on the corner of Gibbs
and 15th, N.E. (l4ll - l5th). (If anyone can find some
history on this "Bulley Mansion," I certainly would appreciate their
sharing it with me.) From the Bulley Mansion they moved
to 426 - l8th St., N.W. Aunt Jan told
me that her dad decided to move from
18th Street when he broke a
neighbor's window playing football with
the kids. The family then bought homes
at 3803 East Tuscarawas St. in 1924 and
then around 1947 moved to 2200 Broad Avenue, N. W. (Below is a photo of that home.)
All
these locations are in Canton, Ohio.
The
home on Broad Avenue had a lot of ground, a garden, a small orchard, many
flower beds, and a flower room (called a "posey" room by Grandma--Effie
Jane Schaub Latta). Additional
buildings included a garage, a workshop and a green house. Grandpa (David
Wilson Latta) kept bee hives too. The
home had the most wonderful rooms upstairs and in the basement to explore. When Grandpa returned home from Chicago, all
his children and their families would all go there for supper on Saturday
nights. It was probably about twice a month. The highlight of my summers as a little girl
was to spend a week there with Aunt Jan and Grandma. We played so many games together, wonderful memories. I was so blessed to have them in my life.
