John H. Mendenhall (1828-1882)
After the death of his first wife,
John went on a packet boat down the Mississippi River and up the Ohio River to
Marietta, Ohio, and brought back his second wife.
John's will left his real estate with his son, George, with the provision that
his wife, Christina, receive one fourth of the income from 100 acres of the
land as long as she lived or remained a widow. Christina was not to marry or
cut more than enough wood necessary for fuel and farming purposes. John's
personal property was valued at $932.90. His son, George, was the executor.
John died of consumption.
