GEORGE LEWIS CHRISTMAN

George L. Christman 1878-1967, youngest child of Philip (1827-1893) and Rosina Pfalzgraf Christman (1835-1919) was born in a tobacco house on the farm near their home in Seneca Township, Monroe County. His mother gave birth, tied the cord, wrapped him in her apron and carried him to the house. George's father Philip and sister Magdalena left Germany with their parents George Jacob and Eva Ullman Christman and settled in Seneca Township, Monroe County, in the 1830s. Six more were added to their family here. Magdalena married Samuel Egger Jr., Philip married Rosina Pfalzgraf, Eva married John Schneider, Christina married Frederick Kindelberger, Jacob married Frederica Pfalzgraf, Katherine married John Pfalzgraf, John married Eva Pfalzgraf, Barbara married Philip Smith, and two died and were buried in Germany. Philip and Rosina lived and died in Seneca Township and also George Jacob and Eva lived and died there.

Philip and Rosina's children, 13: Christinia married Enos Brownfield, Elizabeth died infant, Philip Jr. died of scarlet fever age 9, Magdalena m-John Ackerman, Louisa married John Ackerman, Eva married Gus Rose and Harvey Carper, Rosina married Joseph R. Bates, Mary married Edward Miller, Barbara married Charles Morris, Katherine unmarried, Jacob married Mary Ackerman, Saloma married Theodore Betts, George married Magdalena S. Matz. George L. and Magdalena (1878-1957) married June 19, 1900, built a new home in Seneca Township on his home farm and lived and farmed there until 1925. They moved to a 150-acre farm in Malaga Township 1-1/2 miles south of their home. It was purchased from Henry and Lena Niesz.

Their nine children were born in Seneca Township: Arthur (1902-1989) married Elsie Ackerman and Mary Jane Buss, Clarence (1909-1983), married Florence Dietz, Esther born1905 married Gilbert John Claus, Elma born 1903 married Sylvester Burkhart, Infant born and died 1907, Gertrude born 1911 married Alfred Kahrig, Laura born 1913 married George Kahrig, Paul born 1916 married Marie Beardmore, Beryl born 1921 married Wilbert Claus. The daughters are all residing in Monroe County and Paul in Guernsey County, Ohio. Arthur is buried at Moreland, Ohio and Clarence at Shreve, Ohio. George and Magdalena buried at Middle Church Cemetery. They were members of the church that once stood there. The farming was done with horses, but the cider press, sawmill and limestone crusher with which he did custom work was run by a tractor. Suhmitted hy Wilhert Claus
