PHOTO OF FOX HOLLOW SCHOOL, 1894

In this unique picture, the students of the Fox Hollow School, class of 1894, are photographed by themselves in the lower picture. In the top picture they are shown with their parents or guardians. Can you locate the same student in both pictures? Below are their names as they appear in the bottom photo.

The names were written down by Effie Jane (Schaub) Latta (1883-1972) for her granddaughter Betty Jane (Latta) Kitchen.  Effie went to school with these children at one time and married Dave Latta pictured in the 2nd row.  Sometimes her spelling differs from that seen elsewhere in Monroe County genealogy.  Notes have been added below to indicate other known spellings.  Effie missed a child in the front row.  See submitter's note below.

Far Back: Teacher, Thomas Leroy Latta, 1866-1925

In the top photo, middle row, 2nd and 3d from the right (left of the man holding two infants on the extreme right side of the row), are Mary Jane (Morris) Latta and John Copeland Latta, the parents of the teacher, Thomas Leroy Latta, and their other sons, students John and David. In the very front row, 2nd from the left, is one of their daughters, either Louisa Ellen or Mary Belle Latta.

Fox Hollow was about l  l/2 miles from the Latta homestead in Malaga Township, Monroe County, Ohio. Not only did Thomas Latta have his brothers in the school, but also his  Morris cousins who lived on the adjacent farm.
