1820-30-40 Federal Census
of Monroe County
Although a Federal Census was
required every 10 years, it was not until 1850 that the names of everyone in
the household was included in the census report. Prior to 1850 only the name of
the head of the household was recorded and the rest of the family was simply
counted and the number of family members recorded. Nevertheless, these earlier
Federal Census contain very valuable information for the genealogy researcher.
Of greatest value, of course, is the ability to locate an ancestor by state or
territory. These census records also include age groupings and Revolutionary
pensioners.
