Peter Herlan

Death certificate #75779 was issued in Newport Township of Washington County, Ohio. Peter Herlan was born Nov. 10th, 1837. He lived 93 years, 1 month, 11 days. He was a widower. He was born in Cannonsburg, Guernsey Co., Ohio, and was a retired farmer. He was the son of Jacob Herlan born in Germany and Jane Mendenhall born in Pa. The informant was J. A. Herlan of Schley, Ohio. [He had a son named John Aaron.] Dr. Geo. H. Gale of Newport, Ohio, signed that Peter died Dec. 31, 1930, from uremia. A contributory cause was a fracture of the neck of the femur eleven days before. He was buried in Newport, Ohio, Jan. 3, 1931. The certificate was marked RETURNED with this typed message: "Kindly have physician state the manner in which the fracture was received and whether accidental." Dr. Gale's written response was, "Triped [sic] on carpet and fell on floor --accidental."
