Keeping bees was common in Monroe Co, Ohio. Here Dave Latta and his son Vern work to persuade a new swarm of bees that had emerged from an old hive to take residence in a new hive next door. A smoker is being used to sedate the bees and make the job easier. Dave used his beekeeping skills to support himself when he went to Cornell University ca 1900 and kept hives throughout his adult life in Canton, Ohio.
