Samples,
Norma Aylene Samples, nee Hopkins
Source: The Mail Tribune, Happy Valley, Oregon; from
Jan. 25 to Feb. 4, 2022
March 4,
1930 - January 22, 2022
Norma "Aylene" Hopkins
Samples, age 91, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2022 at Avamere Three
Fountains in Medford, Oregon. She was born March 4, 1930 in Wendell, Idaho, to
James and Katherine (Loveland) Hopkins. At the age of 7 her family moved to
Medford. She was the eldest of 3 children, survived by her brother Bob and
sister Shirley. She attended Medford schools, graduating from Medford Senior
High in 1948 and attended Oregon State University.
Aylene was married to Donald A. Faber
from 1951 to 1971 and they had 4 children; Linda, Sharon, Ron and Shirley. They
lived in Central Point. In 1976 she married Elvin E. "Mick" Mills and
they moved from Central Point to Etna, California. They were married until 1982
when he died in a vehicle accident. In 1984 Aylene married Charles A.
"C.A" Samples and moved back to Central Point. They also lived in
Gold Beach and Medford and were married until his passing in 2011.
Aylene was very involved in her
children's and grand children's school activities and sporting events. She
loved nothing more than to be surrounded by family; be that in the mountains,
at the beach or just at one of our homes. Many days were spent at Lake of the
Woods at the Faber family cabin where many wonderful memories were made. There
were numerous trips to Shasta Lake, trips to the mountains for huckleberries
and mushrooms, walks on the beach and fishing on the Rogue. Aylene was a
wonderful cook too. Whether we were at home or out camping you could count on
her to whip up a fabulous meal.
Aylene worked most of her adult life,
much of it in retail where she had a lot of interaction with people. She was
very social! One of her first jobs was at Mann's Department Store in Medford.
Over the years she worked at Faber's Market in Central Point, Parker Woods
Specialty and LaMonts clothing stores in Medford, the Grange Co-op, Howard Prairie Resort and as a teacher's aide working with
special needs children. Aylene also had her own clothing store, Aylene's
Clothes Nook, first in Etna, California and later moved it to Fort Jones. Not
long after Mick's passing, Aylene closed the store and moved back to Central
Point. Her final job was working at Rogue Community College with daughter Linda.
Aylene was a helper and a caregiver.
There seemed to always be someone in her life that she was watching over and
tending to their needs. It was difficult for her when she fell in May of 2012.
She was paralyzed from the chest down and instantly needed to be cared for. Her
role in life had totally flipped. She was quite the trooper learning to deal
with a body that would not work. For the most part she kept a smile on her face
and a positive outlook for the next 9 ½ years in a Skilled Nursing Facility.
Aylene was preceded in death by her
parents and her husbands. She is survived by her brother Bob Hopkins, Ignacio,
Colorado; sister Shirley Kaminsky (Barry), Sunol, California; daughters Linda
Renfro (Rolly), Gold Hill; Sharon Stewart (Miles), Brookings, OR; Shirley Sharp
(Steve), Springfield, OR; son Ron Faber (Kathy Anderson), Central Point;
step-son David Samples, Grants Pass; 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 7
great, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Aylene will be inurned in a private
service at the Eagle Point National Cemetery alongside husband CA who was a
WWII veteran. The family plans to have a celebration of life later in the
spring at Linda and Rolly's home in Gold Hill.
The family would like to thank all of
the staff at Avamere who took care of Aylene for the last 6 years. We will be
forever grateful for the compassion and care they gave her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to the Crater Foundation, PO Box 5172, Central Point,
OR 97502 or to a charity of your choice.

Mueller Funeral Home, Grafton, Wisconsin; Aug 2022
Lee Michael Teare, 55, passed away
unexpectedly on Sunday, August 28, 2022 at his home in Grafton, Wisconsin.
Lee was a beloved husband, father, son,
brother, uncle, nephew, and cousin. As his cousin Sarah so accurately and
beautifully wrote, "Lee showed up with love, support, and compassion for
the people he loved the most – his family." This could not be truer.
Lee was born in Michigan City, Indiana
on June 23, 1967 to William and Shirley (Algeo) Teare. He spent his early
childhood in Trail Creek, Indiana, where he discovered a love for the outdoors,
fishing, motorcycles, sports, and a curiosity about nearly everything. Lee was
a lifelong learner and student and, as his mother recalled, this started at a
very young age as Lee would often be found playing chess during his lunch break
with his Joy School Elementary principal, Mr. Crabbs. Lee was a 1985 graduate
of Rogers High School in Michigan City where he excelled academically and was a
member of the swim and golf teams. After high school, he attended Purdue
University where he earned a bachelor's degree in Industrial Supervision and
later attended Indiana University South Bend (while working full-time) where he
earned his MBA.
While at Purdue, Lee met Kedron Pliske
– the woman of his dreams. Lee and Kedron were married on November 30, 1991 at
St. Paul Lutheran Church in Michigan City and together they raised three
exceptional children: Travis (Chelsea) Teare, Cleveland, Ohio; Brett Teare,
Irvine, California; and Sydney Teare, Grafton, Wisconsin.
Together, the Teare family shared a life
full of love, baseball games, gymnastic meets, and more 5k runs than anyone
could imagine. The family moved quite a bit for Lee's career and spent years in
Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, Ohio, and Wisconsin – it was always
an adventure and Lee was always thankful for Kedron holding down the fort while
he traveled for work. The family also raised two Golden Retrievers who are now
with Lee in heaven and raised a Goldendoodle who is still going strong (as well
as a couple of Sydney's rabbits that Lee was rather fond of).
Lee was an accomplished business
executive who focused on supply-chain distribution. He was a Six Sigma Black
Belt at GE before moving to Gexpro to serve in several roles including
Marketing Manager, District Sales Manager and Vertical Segment Manager. From
there, he joined Regal Beloit Corporation as the Director of Distribution and,
finally, joined ABB as a Regional Channel Manager. However, without a doubt,
Lee's proudest accomplishment in business (and what he was happiest doing) was
assisting Kedron (his wife) buy, manage, and operate their family business –
the Cedarburg Popcorn Company. We are sure that Lee would ask you to visit and
try some popcorn.
Lee is survived by his wife, Kedron;
his children, Travis, Brett and Sydney; his sisters Paula (Max) Knowlton and
Elizabeth Whelan; his brother-in-law, Todd (Kay) Pliske; his mother-in-law,
Kathleen Pliske; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, who loved him
dearly. He is preceded in death by his father, William Teare, and
father-in-law, Ronald Pliske.
In Lee's memory, and because of his
love for animals (and the time he spent with his daughter there), you may wish
to donate to the Wisconsin Humane Society.
Thomas, Johanna Faith Thomas, nee Witulski
Source: The Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville, Ohio,
online; Feb 2022
Johanna
Faith (Witulski) Thomas
January 11,
1947 - February 2, 2022
Johanna Faith Thomas, 75, a resident of the Arbors at
Woodsfield, Ohio and formerly of Alledonia, Ohio passed away Wednesday,
February 2, 2022 while a patient in WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown,
West Virginia.
Johanna was born January 11, 1947 in Michigan and moved to
Ohio after graduation. She was a member of the Armstrong Mills United Methodist
Church and she was an avid reader. When she was young, she loved to go to the
library. She was only allowed to check out four books at a time, and Johanna
would have them all read by the next day. She never lost her love of books and
reading in general. Her family believes that she had read over 10,000 books in
her lifetime. Although romance novels were her favorite (Johanna would buy any
book from the romance novel category) the size of the book, the author, or the
topic really didn’t matter, she simply loved to read. Johanna also had a
tremendous love for cats. But her last cat, “Biscuit,” held a very special
place in her heart because she had bottle fed him when his mother died shortly
after his birth. Their bond was very special. They would quietly pass their
time, Biscuit, lying belly-up on Johanna’s lap; Johanna gently stroking his
fur. Johanna also enjoyed playing cards, and she developed a special interest
in Canasta. She and several friends would often get together to play different
card games. She had never played the game of Canasta before, but her friends
told her not to worry, they would find her a partner who was really good at
Canasta and she’d learn as they played. She and her Canasta partner, Johnny
Thomas began dating right after their first card game; six weeks later they
were married. They were married for 52 years until his death on Valentine’s
Day, 2017. During their 52 years together they had four children. Her
granddaughter, Myranda remembers Johanna’s words, “it was perfect, I had two boys and two girls. I loved being pregnant and
loved being a mother.” She cherished her
girls and was proud of her boys, however nothing gave Johanna more joy than
being a grandmother. Over the years, Johanna was known by many different names,
to different people, “Mom,” ”Missy,” “Aunt,” were only a few of those names.
But after becoming a grandmother, “Grandma,” became her favorite title, so much
so that the staff at the Arbors and also her care-givers while in the hospital
often called her “Grandma,” just to make her smile. Johanna loved “Grandparents
Day,” at Beallsville Elementary; often she would “adopt” children whose
grandparents weren’t able to attend. Myranda recalls it didn’t matter if you
were “step,” “half,” “adopted,” “family friend,” or “blood relative,” Johanna
would happily take on the role of grandmother to all. Johanna was passionate about family, but to
her, family wasn’t just about the relationships created by blood. Family was
determined by the room in your heart. And according to Myranda, her
grandmother’s heart had more room than a hotel.
After Johnny passed away, her love of crocheting helped
Johanna occupy her time. Her beautiful crocheted blankets became the perfect
way for Johanna to express her love to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and her other “family-members-by-heart.” So
many hand-crocheted blankets have been created with love over the years; so
many hearts have been touched by Johanna’s kindness.
Left to cherish her memory are four children, Jennifer
(Robert) Long, John “Rick” (Susan) Thomas, Jr., Joseph (Joy) Thomas, and Jill
Thomas (Joseph Hubbard); several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; also
many friends. In addition to her husband, John Frederick Thomas, Sr., Johanna
was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Pat Armstrong.
Visitation will be held at the Harper Funeral Home,
Beallsville, Thursday, February 10 from 11am until 1pm
at which time a Celebration of Life service will take place. Family and friends
are invited to join as the family honors Johanna’s memory by sharing their
memories.
After the service, the family would like to invite everyone
to a luncheon and a time of fellowship to be held at the Jerusalem School
House-Community Center, Moore Ridge Road, Jerusalem.
