Tuesday, June 11, 2019
Sept. 20,
1938 - June 8, 2019
William Paul Teare
(Bill), 80, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2019, in Michigan City, Indiana,
surrounded by the love of his family and the dedicated caregivers at Trail
Creek Place Memory Care and Dunes Hospice.
Bill was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio,
on Sept. 20, 1938, to William and Audra (Wilson) Teare.
As a child, he enjoyed playing football, running track, and being mischievous.
During his school days, he worked at his family's store, Teare
Pharmacy, mastering his milkshake-making skills behind the soda counter. After
high school, he studied engineering at Marietta College.
On Dec. 15, 1958, he married the love
of his life, Shirley Algeo, who survives. Together,
they raised three children, Paula (Max) Knowlton of Mill Creek, Indiana,
Elizabeth Whelan of Michigan City, Indiana, and Lee (Kedron) Teare of Grafton, Wisconsin.
In 1965, he moved his family to
Michigan City and began scarfing at Bethlehem Steel's Burn Harbor facility. He
retired shortly after the birth of his first grandchild to attend nearly every
school and sport event they ever participated in.
He was a member of The United Methodist
Church for many years, and selflessly shared his faith with those serving life
sentences at Indiana State Prison until his illness overtook his ability to
continue visitation.
Bill was a quiet guy (except for his
whistling). His family and friends will remember him as a guy who kept everyone
laughing despite rarely being able to deliver a punchline; an avid reader of
books on various subjects including mathematics, science, physics and theology;
a skilled pool player; and a fan of the Chicago Bears and Ohio State Buckeyes
football.
His greatest joy in
life were his five grandchildren, Jacob Tickle, Emily Tickle, Travis Teare, Brett Teare and Sydney Teare.
He is also survived by his cousin Ron (Corlis) Teare of Gastonia, North
Carolina, and brother-in-law Bill (Debra) Algeo,
Humble, Texas – who were the brothers he never had as a child.
He is preceded in death by one son,
Michael Allen Teare; a brother-in-law, Don (Ingrid) Algeo; and his parents William and Audra (Wilson) Teare.
As his request, no services will be
held. Instead, you may wish to donate to one of his favorite charities: Doctors
without Borders, American Red Cross or give of yourself another way: donate
blood, become an organ donor, or volunteer your time at a soup kitchen.
Bill's favorite bible verse was Luke
17:21 "The kingdom of God is within you." He continues to live in our
hearts and in the good works we selfishly do here on earth.
