Eikelberry, Carl Emerson Eikelberry

        STREETSBORO - Carl Emerson Eikelberry, 92, of Streetsboro, passed away peacefully at his home on June 8, 2019.

        He was born in Cambridge, Ohio on March 13, 1927 to the late Albert and Stella Eikelberry. Carl grew up in St. Clairsville, Ohio. He graduated from St. Clairsville High School in 1948 and belonged to the United Presbyterian Church. In his youth, he worked on local farms and also in the coal mines. In 1949, he married the former Betty Drake and they moved to Kent, Ohio in 1951 and began their family. Carl worked for Twin Coach Company in Kent and later retired from CL Gouglar Machine in 1991 after 38 years of service. He also ran his own lawn service company and was a past president of the UAW. In his free time, Carl enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and carpentry. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed.

        In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, Lloyd, Leonard, Charles, and Clarence Eikelberry. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Betty; children, Robert (Susan) Eikelberry, Richard (Connie) Eikelberry, and Linda Barlett; grandchildren, Stacey (Mike) Belknap, Jennifer (Allen) Tyner, Melinda (Richard) Barnes, Joseph (Lisa) Davis, and Adam (Bethany) Barlett; nephew, Danny Eikelberry; niece, Diane Luke; and nine great-grandchildren.

        Per Carl's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Portage County APL.

 

Emmons, Ruth Anne Emmons, nee Stage

          Ruth Anne Emmons, 82 of Ashland, passed away Friday afternoon, June 14, 2019, at Brethren Care Village.

          She was born on July 12, 1936, in a cabin on Jackson Ridge in Monroe County on the outskirts of Woodsfield, Ohio. She is the daughter of the late James Edward and Cora Grace (nee Stephens) Stage.

          At the age of six, Ruth moved to Ashland, Ohio. She graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1954. Later in life, she earned an associate’s degree in accounting from NCTC. She worked at Creative Cartons, Gilbert’s Furniture, and owner of Thymes Past in the historic Anderson schoolhouse.

Ruth married Carlton Eugene Emmons on December 19, 1954. She was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, genealogy, and sewing throughout her life. Ruth was also a member of the Petal Pushers Garden Club, Ohio Genealogy Society, and the Ashland Chapter of the Ohio Genealogy Society. In her early years she also served as a leader for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.

          Ruth is survived by her husband of 64 years of marriage, Carlton “Red” Emmons of Ashland; one daughter, Constance (James) Sheppard; two sons, C. Douglas (Barbara) Emmons and Dean Alan (Tammy) Emmons; eight grandchildren, Erik Emmons, Dustin (Katherine) Sheppard, Corinne (Daryl Houle) Sheppard, Anna (Joseph) Smith, Nicole (Derek) Taylor, Sarah (Tim) Marallo, Nathaniel (Lori) Emmons, and Natalie (Kyle) Hauenstein; thirteen great-grandchildren, Reagan, Adalynn, Masen, Ryder, Easton, Abigail, Danica, Keegan, Crosby, Vincent, Sylvie, Leo and Adalyn; two sisters, Betty Jean Connors and Dorothy Marie Watkins; and foster brothers, David Berry and James “JB” Berry.

          In addition to her parents Ruth is preceded in death by her foster parents, Raymond and Portia Berry; four brothers, John Edward, Jerry Edward, Robert Lloyd and Richard James; a half-brother, James Edward; and a half-sister, Daisy Jo Barber.

          Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 21, at the First United Methodist Church, 220 Sandusky Street, with Reverend Michael Namy officiating. Interment will follow at the Ashland County Memorial Park. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 20 at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home and one hour prior to the Friday service from 10-11 a.m. at the church.

 

English, Paul Dean Clem English

          Paul Dean “Clem” English, 72, of Woodsfield, passed away Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, at the Monroe County Care Center.

          He was born in Rinard Mills, on July 26, 1946, a son of the late Kenneth and Clara Griffin English.

          He enjoyed talking about and working in the oil field. He never would pass up a game of cards, loved sports and was an avid Ohio State Fan.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Walter Piatt, and two nephews, Jeff and Brad Piatt.

          He is survived by two daughters, Cecile (Ryan) Watters, of Woodsfield, and Tiffany (Adam) Hesson, of Lowell; three grandchildren, Brayden and Braxten Watters, and Abigail Hesson; two sisters, Doris Piatt, of Doylestown, and Sharon (Ron) Yarnell, of Brookwood, Alabama; three brothers, Dale (Susan) English, of Woodsfield, Roger (Sue) English, of Graysville, and Ronnie (Vicki) English, of Lewisville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

          Friends were received Monday, Jan. 14, 2019, at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, where the funeral service was held Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019, with Rusty Atkinson officiating. Military serviced were conducted by the Beallsville American Legion Post 768 and the Woodsfield VFW Post 5303. Inurnment will follow at a later date.

        Eschman, Mary Louise (nee Rowley), beloved wife of the late Donald Odell and George Eschman. Devoted grandmother of Cathy Bella, Maria Conaway, Dustin Johnson and Kyle Johnson. Great-grandmother of Samuel Davis, Thomas Davis and Maverick Johnson. Dear sister of Edward (Diane) Rowley and the late John & Charles Rowley. Daughter of the late Virgil and Florence (Goodin) Rowley. Saturday, June 15, 2019 age 82 years.

Farnesworth, Bryanna Shileah-Dawn Farnesworth

     Bryanna Shileah-Dawn Farnesworth, 27, of Cleveland, Ohio (formerly of Noble County, Ohio) passed away Thursday, March 14, 2019 at her home.

     She was born in Marietta, Ohio on October 14, 1991 a daughter to Brian (Nicole) Farnesworth who survives of Moundsville, West Virginia and Cyndi (Terry) Valine Elliott who survives of New Philadelphia, Ohio.

     Bryanna was a very loving mother and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She had a beautiful soul and could always make others laugh.

     Surviving in addition to her parents and step-parents are her children, Brylinn, Cassidy, Brylirr, Cadence, Havikk, Nexiss, Kyngstinn; one brother, Derick (Courtney) Valine; one sister, Alyssa (Logan) Kramer; her second mom, LeaAnn Hannum (Matt Watson); one step-brother, Leavin (Jackline) Marling; one step-sister, Laikyn Marling; her grandparents, Gordon and Teresa Valine, Shirley Milhoan, and Marie Farnesworth; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

     She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Hubert Farnesworth.

     Friends will be received at the Brubach-Watters Funeral Home, 202 Main Street, Summerfield, Ohio from noon - 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2019. Following visitation a cremation will take place. Inurnment will be held at the convienence [sic–convenience] of the family.

Felton, Harvey Lee Felton, Sr.

          Harvey Lee Felton Sr., age 59, of Sistersville, West Virginia, formerly of Sardis, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2019, at Sistersville Center, Sistersville, West Virginia.

          He was born March 3, 1960, the son of Mary M. Kennedy Felton Carpenter and the late Forrest M. Felton Jr.

          He was a self-employed auto mechanic and Baptist by faith.

          In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Richard J. Carpenter; grandparents, Harvey and Josie Kennedy, Forrest and Virginia Felton and Clarence and Belva Carpenter.

          Survivors include his mother, Mary Felton Carpenter, of Supply, North Carolina; son, Harvey Lee (Heather) Felton Jr., of Fly; four brothers, Butch (RuthAnn) Felton III, of Supply, North Carolina, Paul (Julie) Felton, of Marietta, Fred (Cynthia) Felton, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Rick Carpenter of Jefferson City, Tennessee; one sister, Joyce (Marston) Holden, of Supply, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Tyce Lee, Tyler James and Alexus Elaine Felton; and several nieces and nephews.

          Family received friends Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019, at Grisell Funeral Home, 37234 Mound St., Sardis, where services were held Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, with Evangelist David Lively officiating.

          Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery, Sardis.

          Contributions can be made to donor’s choice in memory of Harvey.

 

Fleming, Francis E. Fleming

          Francis E. “Fritz” Fleming, 92, of Clarington and formerly of Orrville, died Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at Monroe County Care Center in Woodsfield after a period of declining health.

          Fritz was born March 29, 1927, near Burbank to the late John Francis and Laura (Hanson) Fleming and served in the U.S. Army during WW II. On July 18, 1949, he married Betty L. Stewart who survives. He retired from Westinghouse and had made his home in Orrville, moving to Clarington in 2006. Fritz was a member of Orrville American Legion and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

          Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Betty; son, Steve Fleming of Woodsfield; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Joe (Sue) Fleming of Creston; and sisters, Janice Damron of Rittman, and Joyce (Dennis) Evans of Smithville

          He was preceded in death by a son David in 2018, and brothers, Thurston, Ward, Robert and Ralph.

          Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24 at Burbank Cemetery with Pastor Herb Alexander officiating. There were no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Stonerise at Home Hospice, 68150 Bayberry Drive, Saint Clairsville, OH 43950.

 

Fox, Gary Raymond Fox

          Gary Raymond Fox, age 69, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away at home Sunday, October 24, 2019. In 2016, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 43 years, Betty Jo Starr. Together, they operated a successful advertising agency for many years. He cared for his wife through her battle with Multiple Sclerosis. After Betty Jo’s passing, he visited with family in the Ohio Valley and enjoyed investing in the stock market. He was a graduate of River High School in Hannibal, and The Ohio State University in Columbus.

          A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, at the Clarington Cemetery, 1075 Market St., Clarington, Ohio 43915.

 

Frazier, Floyd M. Frazier, Jr.

         Floyd M. “Butch” Frazier Jr. 75, of Caldwell, Ohio (Carlisle Community) passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at the Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta, Ohio.

          He was born in Zanesville, Ohio on September 20, 1943 a son of the late Floyd M. Frazier Sr. and Eloise Grandstaff Frazier.

          He was a retired school bus driver and senior citizen van driver in Noble County, Ohio. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Crum Ridge Church of Christ near Caldwell, Ohio.

          He enjoyed fishing and horseshoe pitching, receiving many trophies throughout his lifetime.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Crum Frazier on September 3, 2013; a half-sister, Myrna Stewart, and a step-daughter, Patty Nichelson.

          Surviving are one son, Michael Frazier of the home; two step-daughters, Kathy (Mike) Stephens of Sarahsville, Ohio, Pam (Tim) Sinfield, of Pleasant City, Ohio; three brothers, Jon Frazier, Bobby Frazier, and Jerry Stewart, all of Zanesville, Ohio; two sisters, Clarice Sharrer of Zanesville, Ohio, Teresa Clark of Zanesville, Ohio; one grandson, Derek (Amanda) Frazier of Woodsfield, Ohio; one great granddaughter, Journee Frazier; several step-grandchildren; several step-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews.

          Friends will be received at the Crum Ridge Church of Christ near Caldwell, Ohio, Wednesday, August 14, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at 1:00 p.m.

          Inurnment will follow at a later date at the Crum Ridge Cemetery near Caldwell, Ohio.

Gallaher, Howard Gallaher

          Howard Gallaher, 81 of Powhatan Point, died Sunday March 31, 2019, at Wheeling Hospital.

          He was born March 31, 1938, a son of the late Clifford and Ruth (Cronin) Gallaher in Powhatan Point.

          Howard worked for North American Coal #5 Mine as a mechanic and at D & K Excavating as a mechanic and operator. He was a member of Moriah Lodge #105.

          He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma Gail (Brown) Gallaher; a brother, Forest Gallaher; sisters, Wilma Lodi, Vera Horvath and Betty Coss; and a grandson, David Pritchard.

          He is survived by his children, Mark (Suzie) Gallaher, of Belmont, Tammy ( Bruce Stephen) Deitch, of Woodsfield, and Jim (Lovella) Beal, of Lafferty. In addition he is survived by a sister, Wanda Glasgow, of Powhatan Point; grandchildren, Kayla (Taven Rohrbough) Deitch, Cody (Kayla) Pritchard, Daniel Pritchard, Tasha Beal, Santana McBride, Lesley DeAnne Beal and John Keim; along with 11 great-grandchildren, Madison, Bo, Kirsten, Adhalyn, Kayelyn, Kira, Aamaya, Easton, Dawson Breanna, Leeland and one more on the way, as well as friend Belinda Myers..

          Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2019, at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory, 186 Main St., Powhatan Point, on and again from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2019, with Masonic services held at 7:30 pm. Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2019, with Pastor Jeff Eschbaugh officiating. Burial will follow in Powhatan Cemetery.

 

Gardner, Junior Gardner

    Junior Gardner, 82, of Graysville, Ohio passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia.

     He was born near Rinard Mills, Ohio on June 14, 1936 a son of the late Marvin and Hattie Holland Gardner.

     He was a retired carpenter and was a U.S. Army veteran; a member of the Graysville and Community Volunteer Fire Departments, Graysville, Ohio; and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2302, Woodsfield, Ohio.

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Glenn, Wick, Willard, Gail, and Hillard Gardner; four sisters, Garnet Sivard, Opal Moore, Beryl Messenheimer and Norma Jean Rinard.

     Surviving are five daughters, Vana (Gary) Cecil of Lewisville, Ohio, Jerri Bach of Clarington, Ohio, Maria Conrad of Woodsfield, Ohio, Peggy Gardner of Lewisville, Ohio, Summer Barbee of Cameron, Ohio; three sons, Terry (Violet) Gardner of Gallipolis, Ohio, Randy Gardner of Graysville, Ohio, Rick (Debbie) Gardner of Graysville, Ohio; two sisters, Wanda Pfouts and Pauline Brown, both of Lowell, Ohio; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

     Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2019 where funeral and military services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2019 with Anthony McSwords officiating.

     Burial will follow in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery near Graysville, Ohio.

 

Georgi, Virginia L. Georgi, nee Stewart

          Virginia L. Stewart Goergi, age 84, of Paramount, California, died Aug. 18, 2019, at her son’s home in Downey, California.

She was born January 25, 1935, in Sardis, a daughter of Charles and Louisa Parmar Stewart.

          She was a graduate of John Hay High School in Cleveland, and attended Long Beach City College in California for two years. She was employed by Sperry and Hutchinson Company for five years as a merchandiser in charge of 26 stores in Southern California, Nevada, Arizona and Idaho. In 1974, she joined the Downey Police Department and after nine years was promoted to supervisor of the Technical Services Division until she retired in June 1998.

          Surviving are her children, Brenda J. Rivera, Linda Hayes and Brian S. Watson (Connie Watson); one sister, Clara Dixon; son-in-law, Danny Chairoj; 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

          In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, seven sisters, a son-in-law, Robert Rivera Jr,, and daughter, Sandra Watson.

          Family received friends Monday, Aug. 26, 2019, at Whites Funeral Home in Bellflower, California. Friends will also be received from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2019, at the Grisell Funeral Home, 37234 Mound St., Sardis, with a graveside service to follow in Mount Olive Cemetery, 39220 Mount Olive Rd., Sardis, OH 43946.

 

Gibson, Audrey Y. Gibson, nee Brady

          Audrey Y. Gibson, 83, of Woodsfield, passed away Friday, Nov. 8, 2019, at the Altercare of Mentor.

          She was born at Connellsville, Pennsylvania on May 22, 1936, a daughter of the late John and Elsie Workman Brady.      

          She was a homemaker and was a member of the Nazarene Church, Woodsfield.

          In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Gibson on Oct. 12, 1985.

          Surviving are one daughter, Cassandra Lynch, of Bellaire; one son, William E. (Loretta) Gibson, of Mentor; one brother, John D. Brady, of Madison; one sister, Sandra Allan, of Cleveland; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

          Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woods-field, with Pastor Joe Hise officiating. Burial will follow in the Hope Ridge Farm Cemetery near Wingett Run.

 

Gillespie, Jerry Gillespie

        Jerry “Pick” Gillespie, age 71 of Moundsville, WV died Saturday, May 4, 2019 in Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH.

He was born October 3, 1947 in Moundsville, the son of the late Raymond and Georgia Mercer Gillespie.

       He was a retired employee from Consol Coal Company retiring in 1993, after 21 years of service; worked at Lowes Distribution Center and Flowers Bakery in N.C; enjoyed all car racing, truck pulls, and car shows; and he loved working in the flower gardens.

        Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Connie Costa Gillespie; a daughter, Erin (Mark) Nelson of Moundsville; a brother, Robert (Rosalie) Gillespie of Benwood, WV; three sisters, Betty Kachalo, Geraldine Roth, both of Moundsville, and Mary Ann Dempsey of NC; two granddaughters, Amelia and Katherine Nelson; and several nieces and nephews.

        Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5-8pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville where funeral services will be held Thursday at 1pm with Mike Eskridge officiating.

        Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville.

 

Gilmore, Dale R. Gilmore

          Dale R. Gilmore, 87 of Clarington, Ohio passed away Thursday July 18, 2019 at his home.  He was born April 15, 1932 at Clarington, Ohio a son of the late John and Emma Conner Gilmore.

          Dale was a retired Labor Contractor.

          Preceded in death by his wife Bessie Henthorne Gilmore, and one son; Ralph Randall.

          He is survived by his daughter Rebecca (Darryl) Bowen of Clarington, son Lloyd Randall, six grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.

          Friends received from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Monday July 22, 2019 at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, Ohio with Cheryl & Guy Norris officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Sinai Cemetery Clarington, Ohio.

 

Girvin, Ellen Marie Girvin, nee Hale

        Ellen Marie (Hale) Girvin, age 73, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2019, peacefully at home, surrounded by her family.

        Ellen was born November 4, 1945, in Oakland City, IN, to DeForest Hale, Jr. and Erma Lucille (Britton) Hale. She graduated from Boonville High School in 1964 and went on to earn her degree as a Registered Nurse from Deaconess School of Nursing in 1967. Ellen was a member of Living Word Christian Church. She enjoyed sewing and knitting, and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Ellen was a natural caregiver; everything she did was with someone else’s best interest in mind.

        She is survived by her daughter, Ann Marie Thompson (Keith); son, Sean Ronald McKinney (Tina); step-daughter, Melinda “Bodie” Hyatt (Roger); sister, Jeannene Inglert (Max); 4 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.

        She is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband of 24 years, Harry Girvin, Jr.; and her step-daughter, Patti Healy.

        Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor Mike Claypool officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. 

        Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 8, 2019 at BOONE FUNERAL HOME EAST CHAPEL.

        Lancaster - Patricia Ann Glendenning, 87, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Homestead Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born August 7, 1931 in Cowan, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Myrtle (Tenney) Mathews.* She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in West Rushville. Ann worked many jobs throughout her life including secretary for a professor at Ohio University and Midwest Fabricating, J.C. Penney, Drew Shoes and was a study hall monitor for Amanda Clearcreek High School.

        Ann is survived by her husband of 67 years, James R. "Dick" Glendenning; children, Connie (Gary) Young of Dunwoody, Georgia, Greg (Jan) Glendenning of Lancaster and Lisa (Coy) Prater of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Stephanie (T.J.) McGoldrick, Adam (Beth) Young, Courtney (Tres) Shepherd, Travis Glendenning, Drew Prater, Kyle (Ashley) Prater and Addison (Doug) Lowe and eight great grandcildren [sic--grandchildren]. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Patty Jean Beckman and a brother, Glenn Mathews.

        Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the Taylor Funeral Home in Amanda with Rev. Richard Riedel officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until time of service on Thursday.

*Submitter's Note:  Joseph’s last name was spelled MATHES until around the 1930s.  His parents and eleven siblings used the MATHES spelling throughout their lifetimes.

 

Goad, Buddy G. Goad

        Buddy G. Goad, Sr., of Hillsville, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at the age of 84 years old. After months of failing health, he died peacefully at Commonwealth Senior Living. Buddy was born on November 2, 1935 in Dugspur, Virginia to Edgar "Edd" and Essie Spence Goad.

        As a young man, he and his brothers moved to Maryland and worked at the family saw mills. Afterwards he went on to work for many years in Wilmington, Delaware for the Electric Hose and Rubber company; in 1976 he returned back to Virginia to do cattle farming on the family farm in Dugspur.

        He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Gloria "Bobbie" Goad; sons, Buddy G. Goad, Jr., and Cody Lee Goad; brothers, Frank Woodson Goad, Edgar Hugh "Hugo" Goad, and Eugene Randolph Goad; and one sister, Rosa Lea Lineback.

        Buddy is survived by his sons, Gary R. Goad of Dayton, MD and Dannie Sidwell of Ravenna, OH, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

        Buddy and Bobbie took in over 20 children throughout their lives supporting the state adoption agency. They were recognized by governor at the time, Spiro T. Agnew for their efforts.

        There will be no services at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions be made to Medi-Hospice 336 N. Washington Avenue, Pulaski, VA 24301.

        Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.

        SALEM – Carl E. Goodballet, age 85, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Salem West Healthcare Center. He was born July 26, 1934 in East Liverpool, the son of Louis and Edith (Cochron) [sic—Cochran], Goodballet.

        Carl had worked in a meat packing plant in Minnesota, was a bartender at the VFW in Minnesota and at Walmart.

        He was a member of the VFW 892 of Salem, American Legion in Washingtonville and DAV. He loved gardening, camping, fishing and traveling.

        Carl was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Vietnam War.

        Survivors include his wife, Audrae (Steinberg) Goodballet, whom he married February 25, 1959; a daughter, Bobbie (Dennis) Williams of Salem; two sisters, Doris (Bob) Myers of Calcutta and Leah (Ray) MacIntosh of Wellsville; a brother, Mike Woods of Alliance; four grandchildren, Diane (Matthew) Kehrer, Melissa (Billy) Blackburn, Joseph Davis and Justin Davis and 12 great grandchildren.

        A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Stark Memorial with Pastor Alan Smearsoll officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Salem Honor Guard after the service. Calling hours will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2019 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery, Salem, Columbiana County, Ohio, USA.

        Joseph Goodballet, 73 year old Woodward resident, died Friday, July 5, 2019 at his home in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the Free Will Baptist Church with Dr. Allen Mabra officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery with the United States Navy providing military rites.

        Joseph Edward Goodballet was born on August 4, 1945 in Princeton, Illinois to James Edward and Dorothy Ethel (Russell) Goodballet. Joe grew up in several small towns but always considered Camargo home. He attended grade school in Ft. Cobb and graduated from Camargo High School. He was inducted into the United States Navy on October 19, 1965 and served his country in the Navy Seabees during the Vietnam War until being honorably discharged in 1971.

        He was united in marriage to Carol Ann Larkey on March 9, 1966 at the First Christian Church in Mooreland, Oklahoma. His father James Goodballet conducted the ceremony. They made their first home in Davisville, Rhode Island before moving back to Woodward in 1978. Joe worked as a long haul truck driver most of his life before retiring.

        He was a faithful member of the Free Will Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his family, his church family and playing his harmonica at church.

        Joseph is survived by his wife Carol Goodballet of the home; one son Joseph Edward Goodballet, Jr. and wife Carla of Mooreland; two daughters, Laura Adams and husband Jerry of Durant, LaDonna McAdoo and husband Kevin of Woodward; one sister Mary O'Hair and husband D.W. of Pond Creek, Oklahoma; one brother Charles Goodballet and wife Jody of Phoenix, Arizona; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

        He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Richard Goodballet, in-laws, Chad and Frances Larkey and brother-in-law, Darrell Larkey.

 

Graham, William G. Graham

          Rev. William G. Graham, of Woodsfield, Ohio, passed away Friday, August 23, 2019, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born in Cambridge, Ohio, April 20, 1935, a son of the late Ora and Iona Moore Graham.

          He was an ordained Minister with the Church of the Nazarene having ministered at Woodsfield, Barnesville, Bethesda, Martins Ferry, Louisville, Windom and Cannon Hill, Ohio; and Portage, Pennsylvania. Rev. Graham helped establish the Cowboy Church and was a reserve deputy for the Monroe County Sheriff’s office. He liked traveling, fishing, camping and watching old western movies.

          Preceded in death by his wife Wanda Graham, 2013; one son, William Raymond Graham; one grandson, Michael Joseph Graham.

          He is survived by two sons, David (Cindy) Graham of Woodsfield, Randy (Tammy) Graham of Lewisville; daughter, Brenda (Brad) Fisher of Jerusalem; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

          Friends were received Monday and Tuesday at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, where funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 28. Burial followed at the Oaklawn Cemetery Woodsfield.

 

Gray-Kamp, Darlene L. Gray-Kamp, nee Broeske

          Darlene L. Gray-Kamp, 90, of Waynesfield, passed away Friday, Aug. 9, 2019, at her residence.

          Darlene was born March 19, 1929, in North Canton, to the late Paul and Florence Essig Broeske.

          In 1951, she married Rod Gray and he preceded her in death in 1996.

In 2000 she married Nile Kamp and he survives along with three children, Timothy Gray, Diane (David) Chadwick and Scott (Kimberly) Gray; two sisters; one brother; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

          Darlene was a graduate of North Canton High School class of 1947, attended Wittenberg University and graduated from The Ohio State University with an Education degree in 1951. She taught 5th and 6th grades at Waynesfield-Goshen and started the girls physical education program there in the early 1950s, retiring from there in 1995.

          Reverend Jean Horn and Reverend Jon Horn officiated a funeral service Monday, Aug. 12, 2019 at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 115 N. Main St. Lakeview, with visitation held prior to the service.

          Contributions may be given in her name to Putnam County Hospice, 575 O G Road, Suite 3, Ottawa, OH 45875.

          Arrangements are in the care of Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview.

          George Green, 71, of Beallsville, died Friday, March 22, 2019, at UPMC St. Margaret Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was born in Cleveland April 4, 1947, a son of the late Thomas and Pauline Sucharzewski Green. George was a proud US Army veteran having served with the 82nd Airborne Division in Vietnam, and a retired telephone lineman for Ameritech Corporation. A member of American Legion Post 768 and VFW Post 5303, George was also a devoted member of the Beallsville Volunteer Fire Department where he served as a Lieutenant.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Myers Green, also by a sister. Surviving are his loving wife, Mildred “Midge” Longwell Green; a son, Kel Green and his fiancé, Tammy Shepherd of Geneva; a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Emma Green of Ray; step-daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Eric Ritz of Elm Grove, West Virginia; step-son, Bradley Smith of New Martinsville, West Virginia; step-son, Ryan Buckland and and his fiancé, Hali Moore of Woodsfield; grandchildren, Jacob Green, presently a member of the US Navy stationed in South Carolina, Madasyn Green of Akron, Sara Armstrong of Martins Ferry, Kaylie Smith of New Martins-ville, West Virginia, Oliver and Kate Buckland of Woodsfield.

          Visitation and funeral services were held March 25 at the Harper Funeral Home in Beallsville, with both American Legion Post 768 and the Beallsville Volunteer Fire Department presiding. Full military honors by American Legion Post 768 and VFW Post 5303 were conducted at the funeral home. Burial followed in Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Beallsville.

          In keeping with George’s giving spirit, his family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Beallsville VFD, PO Box 68, Beallsville, Ohio 43716.

          Polly Irene Griffith, 47, of Woodsfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 16, 2019, at Liza’s Place in Wheeling, West Virginia. She was born June 1, 1972, in Millersburg, a daughter of Frankie S. Donohue and the late Geneva S. Miller Donohue.

          Polly was a graduate of Black River High School in Sullivan, graduate of Ohio University in Athens, and also a graduate of UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her first career was as a Communications Engineer at Channel 7 in Wheeling, West Virginia. Her ambition was to be a nurse, and after graduating, she worked as a trauma nurse in Pittsburgh, then as a traveling nurse for UPMC. She was a NASCAR and Ohio State Football fan, enjoyed gardening, refurbishing antiques and working on the farm.

          She was preceded in death by her mother Geneva S. Miller Donohue.

          She is survived by her husband James M. Griffith, of Woodsfield, and her father, Frankie S. Donohue, of Jeromesville.

          Friends and family were received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, with Guy Norris officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

Groff, Terry Lynn Groff, nee Moyer

        Terry Lynn Groff, age 67, of Mansfield passed away Friday, December 6, 2019 in Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware following a 10-year battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

        She was born March 10, 1952 in Mansfield to Robert W. and Maxine L. (Bell) Moyer and remained a lifelong area resident. Terry graduated from Lexington High School in 1970 and attended The Ohio State University.

        As a dedicated stay at home mother, she also gave her time as a caregiver for friends and family. Once her family was grown, she also worked at Besta Fasta Pizza in Mansfield and Bob Evans.

        A member of the former Lexington Presbyterian Church, Terry attended Crossroads Community Church.

        A selfless mother, Terry was very invested in her daughters. Whether coaching the swim team, or baking cookies to share, she was never too busy to help them. She was also giving and generous, sometimes to a fault, volunteering, adopting families at the holidays, and even taking people into her home. Chirst- like [sic—Christlike], Terry only saw the good in people and was always hopeful she could lead them to their Savior.

        Terry enjoyed travel and took several special trips abroad in her younger years. She dearly loved animals and every stranger she came across quickly became a friend. She will be remembered most of all for her generosity and the genuine smile always on her face.

        Surviving are her two daughters and son-in-law Jennifer Groff of Mansfield and Jaime and Shaun Vest of Lake Norman, North Carolina; their father Michael Groff of Mansfield; a grandson Fletcher Vest; a sister Linda Arnold of Mansfield and a brother Robert E. Moyer.

        She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law Chuck Arnold and her mother-in-law and father-in-law Robert and Jean Groff.

        The family will receive friends Saturday, day, December 14, 2019 from 11 am to 1 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where the service will follow at 1 pm. Celebrant Dave Roberts will speak and burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery.

        Donald Lynn Grubb, Sr., age 64, of Buckhannon, WV, died Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

        He was born June 6, 1954, in Buckhannon, WV, a son of the late Cecil and Geneva Hinkle Grubb. On October, 31, 2014, he married Nancy Taylor, who survives.

        Also surviving are, one step son, Trevor Taylor and wife April of Morgantown; one step daughter, Lestyn Bright of Elkins, WV; three step grandsons, Beau Bright of Elkins and Caleb and Brooks Taylor both of Morgantown; twin sister, Donna “Sis” Matthews and husband Sonny of Buckhannon and sister, Margaret Wilcher of Buckhannon; one brother, Robert Grubb and wife Sheri of Morgantown; one brother-in-law, Mark Keister of Jekyll Island, GA; two nieces, Hollie McDaniels of Marlinton, WV and Kelley White of Weston, WV and five nephews, Dustin Gibson, Lynn Wilcher, Chad Wilcher, Timothy Grubb and Shawn Grubb. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Donald "Donnie" Lynn Grubb Jr. and his brother, Larry Grubb.

        Mr. Grubb was a truck driver and the owner of Grubb’s Trike-It Shop. He was a Methodist by faith. Don loved to ride motorcycles and adored his dog Bentley. Don had a heart of gold and was an organ donor. As his final gift, his final deed he was able to donate his corneas so another may see. In honoring Mr. Grubb’s wishes, he will be cremated.

        To celebrate Don’s life, Nancy and “Sis” are having a birthday party, June 6, 2019, at 5 PM at the Kesling Mill Lion’s Club.      He was born in Sarahsville, Ohio on August 3, 1935 a son of the late Howard and Clara Davis Guiler.

     Myron was a former equipment operator for Christman’s Quarry near Summerfield, Ohio and was a protestant by faith. He loved tinkering and collecting old tractors and listening to Alan Jackson music.

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Myrle Delores Poulton Guiler; a daughter, Tammy Gerst; two brothers, Lester and Marvin Guiler; two sisters, Eileen Williams and Beatrice Franks; two granddaughters, Amy Jo Guiler and Heather J. Brocklehurst.

     Surviving are his faithful companion, Erma Wiley of Mt. Ephraim, Ohio; three daughters, Sharon Kay (Terry) Smith of Bethesda, Ohio, Delores Huffman of Barnesville, Ohio, Carolyn McElfresh of Beverly, Ohio; four sons, Dale (Joy) Guiler of Caldwell, Ohio, David (Tammy) Guiler of Summerfield, Ohio, Rick (Lisa) Guiler of Waterford, Ohio, Bryan (Jeannie) Guiler of Jerusalem, Ohio; two sisters, Lela May Zahela of Caldwell, Ohio, Juanita Graham of Senecaville, Ohio; several grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

        Elvis Allen "Dusty" Hackworth, age 93, of Odessa, passed away at Medical Center Hospital on Thursday, July 4, 2019. He was born in Curtis, AR on March 20, 1926 to the late Presley William and Mattie (Sublett) Hackworth. A Baptist, Dusty accepted Christ at the early age of 12. He entered the US Navy in 1942 and served during World War II for over three years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Veteran's of Foreign Wars, and the NRA.

        He married Celia Dremus in 1945. They divorced and he married Carrie Ellen Commander in 1952. She passed away July 7, 1962. In 1976, he found love and companionship again with Shirley Ann Kincade [sic--Kinkade] Holmes. They were together for almost 14 years before her passing February 7, 1990. He is also preceded in death by his sisters: Sybil Schee and Louise Ramsey; brother: Pressley Hackworth; two grandchildren; his sons: Elvis Allen Hackworth II and Craig Allen Holmes; daughter: Kathy Marie Cowan; and great-grandson: Seamus Allen Meador.

        Those left to cherish his love and memory are his son: Dale Hackworth of Ft. Stockton, TX; daughters: Cecelia Marie Quick [sic--Quirk] of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Dorothy Sue Anderson of Sealy, TX, and Virginia Holmes of Odessa; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

        Memorial services with military honors will be at 10:00 am at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, officiated by Pastor Mike Bartlett.

Hamilton, Alan Lee Hamilton

          On May 6, 2019, Alan Lee Hamilton passed from this world into the arms of his Heavenly Father.

          Alan was born on April 9, 1941, at his family‘s home on Adams Avenue in Woodsfield.

          Alan was a graduate of Woodsfield High School and joined the Army shortly there after. He finished 25 years as a Wildlife Investigator with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. He then became Facilities Manager at The Wilds in Cumberland. While in the Muskingum County area, Alan and his wife, with close friends, began a program, a Christmas Day meal to feed lonely or needy families.

After missing his home in Monroe County, he moved back and put down roots as a community service director. This led him to becoming a juvenile probation officer, where he positively influenced many youths. He was a longtime member and deacon at the Woodsfield Church of Christ, where he will be greatly missed as well. Alan enjoyed helping others, hunting, cooking for his family, fishing, yard sales with his grandchildren and the outdoors. He was a trusted mentor to many.

          He was preceded in death by his son, Brett; father, Vernon; mother, Margaret; and sisters Marlene, Shirley and Eulalia.

          Alan is survived by a brother, Dennis; wife, Katherine; daughter, Teddi Cavender (David); daughter, Kalli Griffith (Adam); son, Kollin; grandchildren, Lauren, Brandon, Mason, Khya, Aidan, Kadelan, Caren, Jorgi, Jameis and Jackston; as well as two great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Briar.

          A viewing service was held Thursday, May 9, 2019, at the Woodsfield Church of Christ and again on Friday, May 10, 2019. The funeral service was followed by a graveside service at West Union Church of Christ.

          In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Covenant Christian Academy library, 185 Shady Ave., Woodsfield, OH 43793. 

          Arrangements were provided by Bauer-Tuner Funeral Home Woodsfield.

          The hole left in the community may never be filled, but Alan would appreciate knowing that we loved one another daily through acts of kindness.

     Ryan J. Hamilton, 39, of Marietta, Ohio passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at the Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta, Ohio.

     He was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on April 9, 1980 a son of Joseph Hamilton of Marietta, Ohio and the late Carol M. Ault Hamilton.

     Ryan was a technical support specialist for Conduet Inc. and was a Christian by faith. Ryan enjoyed gaming and building computers.

          Virginia (Ginny) F. Hanahan, age 85, of Germantown, passed away March 25, 2019 at home.

          She was born in Hannibal, Ohio, to the late Walter and Josephine (Oletschy) Dennis. She graduated from New Matamoras High School, retired from National Cash Register (NCR) and was a member of the Germantown United Methodist Church.

          Virginia loved her family, was a tireless giver, enjoyed music, her animals and she loved to cook. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Marjorie Schindler and two brothers, Walter Lee Dennis and Robert Dennis. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, William (Bill); two sons, Greg (Etta) Hanahan and Doug (Lisa) Hanahan; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gene and Gordon Dennis; many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services were held at the Germantown United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 30, and burial was at the Germantown Union Cemetery.

          The family received friends prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton in Virginia’s memory. Arrangements were handled by Arpp, Root and Carter Funeral Home, Germantown.

        Millie Eileen Haney, 71, of Sardis, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her home on February 22, 2019. She was born in Monroe County August 16, 1947, a daughter of the late Lloyd and Grace Morris Henthorn.

        She was a homemaker her entire life and enjoyed taking care of others and cleaning houses.

        In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Fred Haney in 2016 and two sisters, Marlene (Terry) Terwilliger and Shirley (Frankie) McCaslin.

        Surviving are a son; Richard (Janet) Haney of Clarington; two daughters, Bonnie (Boggie) Dagan of Cumberland, and Lois (the late Consuela) Hill of Cambridge; a sister, Sara Huff (the late John Huff) of Loudenville; a brother, Paul (Sara) Henthorn of Sardis; her grandkids, Monte (Dawn) Dagan, Kayla (Derek) Bayes, Harold (Leslie) Dagan, Yevena (Troy) Dagan, Jake Haney, Cameron (Cassidy) Haney, and Katrisha (Anthony) Hill; several great-grandkids, nieces, nephews; many other family and friends, including Rt. 7 Auctions, Marna Dagan, Carol Hornbeck, Patty Jackson, Isabella Conner and many more.

        Friends received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home 100 S. Paul St. Woodsfield, where funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 25, with Pastor Rick Lynch officiating. Burial followed in West Union Cemetery, near Sardis, Ohio.

          Beverly June Brownfield Hanson, 89, of Lewisville, Ohio, left this world on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at her home with family members at her side.

          She was born in Calais June 21, 1929, a daughter of the late James and Blanche Carpenter Brownfield.

          She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, homemaker, and ran the family farm. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and attended the Woodsfield Church of Christ in Woodsfield. June was also a member of innumerable community organizations.

          In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion LeRoy Hanson whom she married on October 11, 1947, and who passed away on February 12, 1996; a son, Stephen Franklin Hanson; a daughter, Carole Elaine Hanson; three brothers, Oscar, Herbert and Woodrow Brownfield; four sisters, Mabel Starr, Stella Mitchell, Bessie Bunting and Georgianna Starr; and a great-grandson, Alex James Hanson.

          Surviving are one sister, Mary Lou Broomhall of Barnesville; one daughter, Linda Lorraine (Paul) Lafferre of Lewisville; two sons, Lewis David Hanson of Lewisville, Gene Edward Hanson of Dexter City; additional family member, Tiffany Abbott, aka Stephanie, aka Linda Jr.; special friend Cindy Weddle; eleven grandchildren, Alison Hanson, Adrienne Riffle, Arianne Green, Lewis David Hanson Jr., Dawn Rose, Melissa Hanson, Trenton Hanson, Korri Glidden, Manoah Geese, Isaiah Geese, Nathan Hanson; twenty-six great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.

          She had no equal.

          Friends were received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 21.

          Friends then were received at the Woodsfield Church of Christ, 860 Lewisville Road, Woodsfield, from 10a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, with Harry Summers and Keith Jones officiating.

          Burial followed in the Friendship Cemetery, Lewisville, Ohio.

          Vicki Irene Harmon, 56, of Louisville, Kentucky formerly of Woodsfield passed away October 15, 2019 at her home.  She was born in Wheeling, West Virginia November 20, 1962 a daughter of JoAnn Harmon of Woodsfield, and the late Donald B. Harmon.

          She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodsfield.

In addition to her mother she is survived by her brother Gus (Denise) Harmon of Tyler, Texas, her sister Ann (Buck) Chewning of Woodsfield, nieces Leslie Chewning, and Sarah Harmon, and nephew Tyler Harmon.

          A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday October 27, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Woodsfield, 114 North Paul Street, Woodsfield, Ohio with Pastor T.J. Milam officiating.

          She is survived by her mother, Jo Ann, of Woodsfield; sister, Ann (Buck) Chewning, of Woodsfield; brother, Gus (Denise) Harmon, of Tyler, Texas; nieces, Leslie Chewning, of Martinsburg, West Virginia, and Sarah (Scott) Harmon, of Marysville, Washington; nephew, Tyler (Brittany) Harmon, of Tyler, Texas; great-nieces, Bridgett and Tinley Harmon, of Tyler Texas; and many aunts, uncles and cousins; also closest friends, Cassandra Dunning, Jamie Campbell and Shelby Stirn, of Louisville, Kentucky.

          Vicki was a member of First Baptist Church in Woodsfield, where she was saved and baptized. She was an accountant for 25 years for different firms in Louisville, Kentucky. She had the best heart and touched so many with her sweet demeanor. One word people would say about Vicki was she was always jovial.

          Vicki was a cat aficionado. She loved all cats. If you had a cat, she loved you as well. She rescued cats, kept some and helped place others in good homes. She supported a couple animal shelters.

          Vicki was a die-hard Cincinnati Bengals fan. She believed they would win every game. Win or lose, her love and support for the Bengals never wavered.

          Karen Yoss Baker Harper, 73, of Woodsfield, Ohio a loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away on Wednesday November 13, 2019 at her home.  She was born in Woodsfield, Ohio on September 2, 1946, a daughter of the late Wilbur Yoss and Kathleen Haren Yoss.

          Karen graduated from Woodsfield High School and Ohio University. She was a retired school teacher for SOLSD of 23 years. Karen was a lifelong, faithful, and active member of St. Paul’s UCC of Woodsfield. She was a very active, passionate, dedicated member of WHS Alumni Committee, MC Action Committee and Cancer Gas Cards. Karen loved to travel and spend quality time with family members and friends. She was known as “Super K” by her children and grandchildren, due to her extraordinary energy. Karen’s favorite thoughts and advice were; always find the good in someone, live for today and save a little for tomorrow, and live by the Serenity Prayer.

          In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by first husband Edwin P. Baker and grandsons Darren Stimpert and Jordan Arbogast.

          James Joseph Harris, 96 years old, of Barberton, passed away peacefully on the evening of Friday, May 3, 2019, in the presence of family and friends.

          He was born on Christmas Day in 1922 in Columbus, Georgia and moved to Akron as a child. After retirement, he moved to Monroe Country where he worked on his farm raising beef cattle in Beallsville. He returned to Akron and then moved to Barberton where he resided the remainder of his life.

          Jim is survived by Della Emma Harris, his wife of 23 years. He is also survived by his daughters, Ellen Susan (Jeffrey) Huth, of Medina, and Sally Melinda Ackerman, of Daytona Beach; grandchildren, David (Beth) Staley, of Akron, Sarah Amarasinghe, of Daytona Beach, and Kelly Huth, of Akron; and great-grandchildren, Esther, Annamay, Doniven, Jaxon, Tiffany, Brian and Jordan. Jim also leaves behind stepdaughter, Debbie (Clay) Canfield; and step-grandchildren, Brian (Jess) Canfield, Beth (Joe) Heindel; step-great-grandchildren, Frankie and Callie; and best friend, Bob Bussy.

          Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Theresia Beavers Harris; brother, Oscar and sister, Ruby Longan.

          Jim led a full and active life and was a hard worker. During World War II, Jim joined the Navy and faithfully served his country in the Lighter-Than-Air division and also served in Guam. He worked and retired from Firestone after 20 years. Jim strongly believed in education. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa and graduated with a degree in Education from Kent State University before earning his Masters in Counseling from Ohio University. He was a teacher in Akron Public Schools at Lincoln Elementary and then was a guidance counselor at Thornton Junior High and Garfield High School before retiring in 1980.

          Jim had a sharp mind and was a creative storyteller. He was a joy and loved to engage those around him with his wonderful sense of humor. He was a lifetime member of ORTA, Firestone VFW #3383, Firestone Park Prime Timers, the Ohio Country Western Music Association and was also a member of Barberton Moose Lodge #759, the Slovenian Center in Barberton, Barberton Active Adult Center, where he enjoyed the Thursday Euchre Group. He was an avid sports fan, and he absolutely loved to dance. He danced with his wife, Della, every chance he could get. Jim also loved to travel and had been all over the world on an amazing 45 foreign trips and cruises. He lived a full and blessed life. His loss is mourned, but his life and memory are celebrated.

          Jim’s funeral service was held Thursday, May 9, 2019, at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton, with Chaplin Laura Kelly officiating. Burial was at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with military honors. The family received friends Wednesday, May 8, 2019.

          Sarah Marie Hartline, 37, of Tiffin, formerly of Sardis, died Friday, May 24, 2019, at the Cleveland Clinic after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

          Sarah was born Nov. 30, 1981, in New Martinsville, West Virginia, daughter of Roger Lee and Cheryl A. (Canfield) Hartline.

          She was a graduate of River High School Class of 2001, she loved fishing, drawing and painting and she was a Methodist by faith.

          She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Helen Canfield, and paternal grandparents, Joseph and Martha Hartline.

          Surviving in addition to her parents are her brother, Shaun (Trisha) Hartline, of New Martinsville, West Virginia; maternal grandfather, Denver Canfield, of New Martinsville, West Virginia; two special nieces, Leah and Jana Hartline; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

          At Sarah’s request private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Greenlawn Memorial Park in New Martins-ville, West Virginia.

          Memorial contributions may be made, in Sarah’s name, to the American Cancer Society.

Jessie was a homemaker and a member of Salem Hall United Methodist Church, Woman’s Auxiliary of the VFW at New Matamoras and the Midway Community Center. She enjoyed Face Book.

          On January 2, 1956, she married John L. Haught who preceded her in death on February 14, 1994. She is survived by 2 sons and 2 daughters, Gregory (Michele) Haught of Star Route Reno, Matthew (Kelly) Haught of Botkins, OH, Brenda (Gerald) Armstrong of New Matamoras, Teresa (Rex) Armstrong of Rinard Mills; 9 grandchildren: Melissa, Gretta, Gerald, Jr., Vanessa, Rex Jr., Justin, Ashley, John-Michael, Madison and 16 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Gilbert Briggs of Woodsfield.

          In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 4 sisters and 5 brothers.

          Funeral services will be held on Thursday (April 11) at 12:00 noon at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial following in Salem Hall Cemetery. Family will greet friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8.

        She is survived by three children, Melissa Casto-Bennette, Stephane [sic—Stephanie] Thorne, Toby Haverty; five grandchildren, Randall Casto, Alexis Johnson, Camron Thorne, Aaden Thorne, Kaaden Thorne; four siblings, James Lattea, Donna Reed, Collette Frederick, Colleen Lattea; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

        In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Justin Casto.

Hawkins, David M. Hawkins

          David M. Hawkins, 80, of Lower Salem, finished his earthly travels on Nov. 8, 2019, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

          He was born Nov. 20, 1938, in Cleveland, to Virgil J. and Eleanor Meredith Hawkins.

          David spent his early childhood in Richfield, attended high school in Oklahoma, Alabama and graduated from The American School of Lima in Lima, Peru in 1956. He attended college at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, and served as an Engineering Cadet in the Merchant Marines.

          David completed college at Ball State in Muncie, Indiana with a B.S. in Industrial Arts Education. Upon graduation in 1965 he accepted a commission in the U.S. Navy and served five years active duty in southeast Asia.

          In 1970 he and his wife, Rebecca, returned to the United States and settled in Lower Salem.

          David taught industrial arts at Marietta Junior High School for 17 years, worked in strip mine reclamation and manure nutrient management for the Soil and Water Conservation District of Monroe, Washington and Noble Counties.

          After his retirement in 1994 he devoted his energy to tree farming and outdoor education for Monroe and Washington County school children.

Throughout his life he served on many agriculture and conservation boards. David traveled the world working in missions through Compassion International and World Gospel Mission. His work there supported many Christian schools and churches.

          David is survived by his son Eben and daughter-in-law Sheri, son Albert and daughter-in-law Kate and a daughter, Laura; grandchildren, Cody, Brady, Ella, Elias, Sabine and Rebecca.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Rebecca, second wife Ruth and two brothers, Johnathan and Thomas.

          A memorial visitation was held Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta. A memorial service was held Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, at the Valley View Baptist Church in Reno.

          Judith Ann Hensel, 82, of New Matamoras, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2019, at Elmcroft in Marietta surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 22, 1936, in Sistersville, West Virginia, the daughter of Walter V. and Ida Mae Ewers Cline.

          She was a member of Washington Hall Christian Union Church, Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 6387 in New Matamoras and OAPSE. She had been employed as a custodian for the Switzerland of Ohio School System.

          On January 23, 1955, she married Henry E. Hensel and he preceded her in death on November 8, 2003. Also surviving are two daughters, Sherry Lynn Moore (James) of Little Hocking, and Brenda Lea Bellville VI (Jacob) of St. Louis, Missouri; four grandchildren, Carrie Ann Gould, James Eric Moore (Logan), Amanda Bisher (John) and Jacob Bellville VII; nine great-grandchildren and one sister, Elizabeth Eckleberry (Hurl) of Canton.

          She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jesse H. Cline.

          Funeral services will be held at the Hadley Funeral Home in New Matamoras Friday, September 20 at 11 a.m. with Jim Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Matamoras Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, September 19.

          Scott T. Henthorn, 53, of Lewisville, passed away Jan. 10, 2019, at his home.

He was born in Barnesville, on Feb. 11, 1965, a son of Mary Giesey Henthorn and the late Clarence Richard “Tiny” Henthorn.

          Scott was a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ, and worked at Detroit Diesel in Cambridge.

          In addition to his mother Mary Henthorn, of Woodsfield, he is survived by his wife Amy Wetmore Henthorn, of Lewisville; son Austin (Tamara) Hoops, of Tennessee; daughter Angeline Hoops, of Lewisville; brother Mark (Cindy) Henthorn, of Woodsfield; sister Sharon (Gary) Keevert, of Woodsfield; and a grandson Trace Austin Hoops, due in April.

          Private Funeral Services were held at the Woodsfield Church of Christ with Scott McFarland officiating. Burial followed in the Fairview Cemetery near Woodsfield.

Hercher, Donald E. Hercher

          Donald E. Hercher, 70, of Sycamore Valley, Ohio, passed away peacefully Monday, February 18, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with myelodysplastic syndrome (leukemia).

          He was born in Marietta on August 25, 1948, a son of Elmer and Myrtle Kehl Hercher, who survive of Tucson, Arizona.

          Don grew up in Sycamore Valley, where he resided and was a 1966 graduate of Skyvue High School. He formerly worked at Remington Rand/Kardex, in Reno, Ohio before he became a dairy farmer with his wife Judy on the family farm. He formerly served as a Bethel Township Trustee and was self-employed in the oil and gas business which he truly enjoyed. His passion for the oil and gas business was something that was passed down through his family. Don was an avid Fox News Watcher and was always willing and ready to help his neighbors. He always enjoyed spending time with his family.

          Surviving in addition to his parents are his loving wife of 49 years, Judy Heft Hercher; three daughters, Missy (Greg) Alleman of Sycamore Valley, Shelly (Erin) Curtis of Bloomfield, Tiffany (Shane) English of Sycamore Valley; one brother, Richard (Yvonne) Hercher of Tucson, Arizona; one sister, Glenna Dennis of Marietta; eight grandchildren, Seth and Chad Alleman, Lane (Josie) Curtis, Cala Curtis, Corby Curtis, Tice Curtis, Kyra and Jacey English; several nieces and nephews.

          Friends were received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woods-field, Ohio from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, February 24, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 25, with his son-in-law, Erin Curtis officiating.

          Burial followed in the Creighton Ridge Cemetery, near Sycamore Valley, Ohio.

          Elmer E. Hercher, 99, of Tucson, Arizona, formerly of Sycamore Valley, passed away March 25, 2019, at home.

          He was born Aug. 25, 1919, to Henry and Laura (Nalley) Hercher. He was married to Myrtle (Kehl) Hercher Feb. 5, 1944.

          He is survived by his wife of 75 years; a daughter, Glenna Dennis, of Marietta; and a son, Richard (Yvonne) Hercher, of Tucson, Arizona.

          Also surviving are a sister, Eileen Lantz, of Marietta; and a daughter-in-law, Judy Hercher, of Sycamore Valley. He has seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

          He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Donald Hercher; two brothers; three sisters; and one son-in-law.

          Abiding by his wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no service at this time.

    Pauline Hercher, 93, of Marietta, Ohio (formerly of Sycamore Valley, Ohio) passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at The Pines of Glenwood, Marietta, Ohio.

     She was born near Brownsville, Ohio on December 22, 1925 a daughter of the late Walter and Ada Hill Ring.

     She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clesson D. Hercher, five sisters and one brother; a granddaughter, Melinda Hines; and a grand daughter-in-law, Christine Marie Hines.

    Pauline is survived by a son, Charles D. Hercher of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee; a daughter, Joyce A. (Robert) Hines of Lewisville, Ohio; a granddaughter, Julie A. (Daniel) Haines and their children, Haley, Dylan and Justin; a grandson, Michael L. (Rita) Hines and their children, Heather and Renee Hines; Nathan (Sara) Mugford and their children, Katelyn and Brayden; Jacob (Terri Lynn) Mugford and their children, Mackenzie and Logan; Michael (Amanda) Mugford and their children, Audrey, Aaron, Elijah and Lincoln; and Adam Mugford.

    A private memorial service will be observed by the family.

          Bernard C. Hill Sr., 88, of Summerfield, Ohio passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at his home.

          He was born near Carlisle, Ohio on July 14, 1931 a son of the late Louis and Dena Coleman Hill.

          Bernard was a retired employee of the Ohio Department of Transportation in Noble County, Ohio and was a former mechanic at the former Ziler’s Garage in Caldwell, Ohio.

         He was a Catholic by faith; an honorary member of the Summerfield Fire Department, Summerfield, Ohio and a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Caldwell, Ohio.

          He enjoyed hunting, trapping, sporting events and spending time with family.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Agnes Burkhart and Freda Ritterbeck; a brother, Raphael Hill; a sister-in-law, Ethel Weisend and a step-granddaughter, Deanna Smithberger.

          Surviving are his wife, Lela Kirkbride Hill whom he married on December 12, 1953; four daughters, Diane (Dan) Gray of Senecaville, Ohio, Debbie (Robert) Forshey of Caldwell, Ohio, Lynne (Jim) Smithberger of Lower Salem, Ohio, Jodi (Dave) Schott of Caldwell, Ohio; three sons, Bernard (Kerry) Hill Jr. of Summerfield, Ohio, David (Katrina) Hill of Mt. Blanchard, Ohio, Jamie (Tess) Hill of Woodsfield, Ohio; sister-in-law, Donna (Larry) Mallett of Summerfield, Ohio; brother-in-law, Donald (Linda) Kirkbride of Summerfield, Ohio; seventeen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and ten step-great-grandchildren.

          Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2019 where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2019 with Jimmie Moore officiating.           Judith L. “Judy” Hill, 69, of Woodsfield, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at the Monroe County Care Center, Woodsfield.

          She was born in Barnesville August 1, 1950, a daughter of the late Daniel and Irma Secrest Chorovich.

          She was a former insurance agent for Safe Auto, Woodsfield, and was previously an employee of the former Weber’s Pharmacy, Woodsfield.

Judy was an avid animal lover, loved spending time with her grandkids and being outdoors.

          In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Hill in 2014; and a sister, Patty Vickers.

          Surviving are one daughter, Jacey Duffy of Woodsfield; one brother, Gene (Linda) VanMeenen of Lewisville; one sister, Carla Graham of Barnesville; three grandsons, Josh (Karissa) Duffy, Bryan Duffy, and Trey Duffy, all of Woodsfield; and one great-granddaughter on the way.

          Friends were received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, from 4 – 7 p.m. Monday, December 16, where a Celebration of Life service was held at 7 p.m.

          Inurnment was held at the convenience of the family.

 

Hines, Ellis G. Hines

          Ellis G. Hines, 95, of Woodsfield, Ohio, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2019, at Brandy Woods Assisted Living, Woodsfield. He was born March 11, 1924, at Ethol in Monroe County, a son of the late Clement Hines and Margaret Jane Winland Hines.

          Ellis married Vera L. McGarry on February 27, 1943. He was an U.S. Navy veteran serving in WWII for two years in the Pacific and one year on the Atlantic. After being discharged in 1945, he returned to Canton, Ohio, where he pumped gas for Standard Oil. He was then hired by H.L. Gentry Pipeline as a truck driver and later a side boom operator. He retired as Superintendent for Hinkle and McCoy Inc., Pipeline Gas Division of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. He and Vera enjoyed spending their winters in Bradenton, Florida, where they were members of the East Bradenton Church of Christ. He belonged to the Operator Engineer’s #185, Masonic Lodge #300 of Stafford, Ohio, and was a member of Cambridge Shriners.

          Along with his parents he is preceded in death by one daughter, Sue Ellen Hines; one grandchild, Lanie King; two sons-in-law, Clyde L. King and Gerald A. Scott (Jerry); all of his siblings, Elma (Raymond) Franks, Gladys (Charlie) Dilley, Edra (David) Rose, Edwin (infant twin to Edra), John C, Mansel (Doris), Carrie (Don) Rutledge, Katie Hines and Ann (Forrest) Rose.

          He is survived by three daughters, Betty A. King, Sharon Scott (John Hines) and Robin (Joe) Bishop; 15 grandchildren, Brent (Becky) King, Scott Burdette, Steve (Lisa) King, Randy (Tania) King, Shaun (Teresa) Bright, Stacy (Greg) Reed, Darren (Laurie) Bright, Darrell (Liz) Bright, Michael (Sarah) Scott, Jodi (Adam) Chambers, Joanie (Luke) Fry, Karla Bright (Justin), Julie (Devin) Kirkbride, David (Reyna) Scott; 31 great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

          Friends received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 27, at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, where funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday May 28. Burial followed in Friendship Cemetery, Lewisville. Military services conducted by the VFW Post 5303 and the Beallsville American Legion Post 768. Masonic Lodge services were held at 7:30 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.

          Jimmie R. Hines, 88, of New Concord, Ohio, formerly of Graysville, passed away Monday, December 2, 2019, at his home after a short illness.     He was born in Monroe County, Ohio, January 23, 1931, a son of the late Clifford and Gertrude Hartshorn Hines.

          He was a US Marine, serving during the Korean War. Jimmie was at one time employed by Baker Equipment in Lewisville. He worked at Hercules Steel in Canton, RCA and NCR in Cambridge, and SYCON in Cambridge where he retired as plant manager. He was a member of the Stafford Masonic Lodge #300 for over 50 years.

          Jimmie was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Joan Hines, on April 28, 2018.

          He is survived by sons, Gary (Jeri) Hines of Zanesville, and Frank (Tammy) Hines of Cambridge; daughter, Deborah (Keith) Hines Wert of Lehighton, Pennsylvania; brother, John Hines of Lewisville; sisters, Delores (Robert) Miller of Zanesville, and Carrie Ann Turner of Woodsfield; grandchildren, John (Liz) Eyen, James (Lacie) Eyen, Jeremy Hines, Bryan Hines, Brandon Hines, Adam (Aimee) Hines, and Alexandria (Dan) Matheney; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

          There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be at Muskingum Valley Baptist Church Cemetery, near Bloomfield, Ohio. Arrangements by Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield.

 

Hines, Vera Lucille Hines, nee McGarry

          Vera Lucille McGarry Hines, 97, passed on to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Wednesday morning July 17, 2019 at Brandy Woods Assisted Living, Woodsfield, Ohio.  She was born December 28, 1921 in Wayne Twp., Monroe County, Ohio; the daughter of Edward B. and Orabel Hinkinbotham McGarry.

          Vera married Ellis G. Hines on February 27, 1943.  And to this union were born four daughters, Betty A. King, of Lewisville, Ohio, Sharon K. Scott (John Hines) of Lewisville, Ohio, Robin L. (Joseph) Bishop of Woodsfield, Ohio, and Sue Ellen Hines.  Besides her three daughters she leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, and 3 step great-great grandchildren.

          Preceding her in death are Ellis G. Hines (husband), Sue Ellen Hines (daughter), Clyde L. King and Jerry A. Scott (son-in-laws), Lanie King (granddaughter), Alice McGarry Lumbatis (sister) John Henry McGarry (brother), and Gale Springer (brother).

          Vera was baptized at an early age into the Church of Christ.  Her love for the Lord and the Church was exemplified by her life as a faithful and virtuous Christian woman, loving wife, mother and grandmother, friend and neighbor.

          There will be no visitation.  Private interment will be at the family’s discretion.

 

Hodge, Reda Jane Hodge, nee Gauding

          Reda Jane (Gauding) Hodge joined her father in Heaven on June 20, 2019.

          She lived in Orlano [sic--Orlando], Florida for the last 19 years and worked as an insurance agent for Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

          She is preceded in death by her father, Homer Gauding; maternal grandparents, Glenn and Ellen Gilmore; and paternal grandparents, Henry and Reda Gauding.

          Reda is survived by her two children, Linda and Gary; her mother, Betty Gauding; five brothers, Raymond (Kathryn), Robert, Ronald, Randy and Rudy (Stephanie); one sister, Ruth; a granddaughter, Abigail Morris, and several nieces and nephews.

          Family will receive friends Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third St., New Martinsville, West Virginia, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, with Pastor Terry Pringle officiating.

          Interment will be held in Zion U.C.C. Cemetery, Sardis, Ohio.

Hoskinson, Gary G. Hoskinson

          Gary G. Hoskinson, 77, of Woodsfield, Ohio, passed away Friday, March 29, 2019, at Wheeling Hospital. He was born in Monroe County, Ohio, April 22, 1941, a son of the late Roy E. Hoskinson and Ella Grant Hoskinson.

          Gary was retired from Ormet Aluminum in Hannibal, after 38 years of service. He was a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Woodsfield and a United States Army veteran.

          He was preceded in death by his brother, Roy W. Hoskinson, and his sister, Betty Covert.

          Gary is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joyce Bowman Hoskinson, of Woodsfield; former sister-in-law, Kaye Hogue; nieces and nephews, Michael Covert, Judy Maney, Debbie Burick, Chris Hoskinson, Julie and Ed Pletcher, Autumn Dimmerling, Mark Dimmerling, Eden Pletcher, Cherish Pletcher, and Ben Pletcher.

          There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Arrangements were handled by Bauer-Turner Funeral Home in Woodsfield.

 

Houglan, Harry Robert (Bob) Houglan, Sr.

        Bob (Hougie) Houglan received his wings early Friday morning, Feb 15, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. Born August 11, 1940 in Akron, Ohio to Harry J. and Grace Harris Houglan, Bob lived in the Akron area his entire life. He was a 1958 graduate of Hower Vocational High School, then went on to graduate from a four year apprenticeship training through a local sheet metal school.

        Bob joined the Akron Police Department in August of 1963, where he spent time walking the beat in downtown Akron. He was also a member of the Akron Police Department SWAT team prior to his retirement.

        Bob was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Akron Lodge # 7. He was also a member of the Akron Area Police Retirees and Widows Association, where he had served in different capacities. Upon his retirement from the Akron Police Department in September 1994, Bob loved spending time sitting around a campfire along the banks of the Mohican River, where he had been camping since 1990. His dream was to travel the U.S. with his wife by his side, camping along the way.

        Bob was preceded in death by his parents and in his words "two terrific sets of in-laws". He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Kay (Martin); children, Harry Robert (Rob) Houglan Jr., Elizabeth R. Houglan-Adkins, Terri Lynne Houglan, all of Akron, Ohio and Eric Fitzgerald of New Castle, Pa.; grandsons, Isao J. Adkins, Brandon Scott Diehl, Logan Kristofer Wheeler and Declan Michael Fitzgerald; granddaughters, Madison Rae Fitzgerald and Kyra Paige Hemskey; great-grandson, Aiden Levi Robert Diehl; brother, Timothy (Barb) Houglan of Mulberry, Fla.; nephews, Ed Houglan and Heath Houglan; daughter-in-law, Bylon (Joe) Hemskey, several other nieces and nephews, and an "adopted family" of wonderful camping friends fondly referred to as "Vagaseville and Uncle Forrest".

        Friends may call at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Road, Akron, OH 44305 on Tuesday, February 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at Newcomer on Wednesday, Feb 20 at 11 a.m., with one hour visitation prior to the service. Howell, Arthur J. Howell

          Arthur J. Howell, 80, of Tiffin, went on to be with his Lord at 2:45 p.m., Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay.

          Arthur was born on February 16, 1939, to the late Harry E. and Ruth (West) Howell. Arthur married Patricia (Wooldridge) at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas on October 27, 1963, and she preceded in death on October 17, 2012.

          Arthur is survived by his six children, Ruth (Ed) White of Bowling Green, Angela (Scott) Hopkins of Windham, Connecticut, Laura (Mike) Frost of Findlay, Aaron (Kelly Walter) Howell of Tiffin, Jason (Misty Runion) Howell of Tiffin, and Gina (Taylor) Howell of Tiffin; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother Harry E. Howell, Jr., of Beallsville.

          Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elmer and Clyde Howell; and a sister, Faye Hopton.

          Arthur retired from Fostoria Industries as a Quality Control Engineer after 19 years. Arthur was also a lifelong minister and song leader. He enjoyed playing music, writing songs, gardening and spending time with family.

          A memorial service for Arthur was held Saturday, April 6 at the Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin, with Minister Wade Tannehill officiating. There was no visitation held. Burial was held Tuesday, April 9 at the Beallsville Cemetery in Beallsville.

          In lieu of flowers or gifts memorial contributions may be made to your local Church of Christ.

     Bernice Howell, 90, of Woodsfield, Ohio (formerly of Dallas, Texas) passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at the Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta, Ohio.

     She was born in Tennessee on December 24, 1928 a daughter of the late William and Bernice Smith Pope.

     She was a retired bank employee in Dallas, Texas and was a Presbyterian by faith. She enjoyed reading books which was the love of her life.

     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Howell; a brother, Bill Pope; two sisters, Kathleen Lyons and Pat

     Surviving are two sons, Paul “Andy” (Debbie) Howell of Woodsfield, Ohio, Thomas (Sally) Howell of Garland, Texas; one sister, Audrey Morgan of Middlefield, Ohio; two brothers, Jim Pope of New Hampshire, Daniel Pope of Tiffin, Ohio.

     There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, Texas.

Huffman, Janell Ann Huffman

          Janell Ann Huffman, 57, of Dublin, died Tuesday, April 16, 2019, in Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.

          She was born Oct. 22, 1961, in Barnesville Hospital, the youngest child of the late John, Sr. and May Brownfield Huffman.

          Janell grew up on the family farm near Jerusalem and graduated from Beallsville High School. She worked for several years caring for others as a nurse’s aide before moving to the Columbus area and also after relocating.

          In addition to her parents, Janell was preceded in death by a sister, Joetta Slusser. Surviving are her fiancé, John A. Bott; a sister, Janet Huffman, of Jerusalem; four brothers, John, Jr. (Sharon) Huffman, Jeff Huffman, Joey Huffman, and Jay (Teri Jo) Huffman, all of Jerusalem; five nieces and nephews, J.J. (Pam), Shannon, Richard, Chad (Anna), Erica (Jim); 11 great-nieces and nephews, Nikole, Rikki, Remi, Renzi, Jaycee, Payton, Parker, Mason, Hank, Wyatt, and Joie.

          Visitation was held Thursday, April 18, 2019,  at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville, where funeral services were held Friday, April 19, 2019, with Minister Bob Graham presiding. Interment followed in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.

Huffman, Ralph E. Huffman

          Ralph E. Huffman, age 69 of Sardis, passed away, Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, at Liza’s Place in Wheeling, West Virginia.

          He was born Feb. 15, 1950, in Wetzel County, West Virginia, the son of the late Harold and Ruth Hoskinson Huffman.

          Ralph was a retired maintenance worker for Ohio Valley University, a U.S. Army veteran having served in Vietnam and a member of the Narrows Run Road Church of Christ.

          He was also a member of the American Legion #760 in Hannibal and the River 200 Club. Ralph graduated River High School in 1968 and enjoyed all things related to River High School especially sports and the band. He also liked car shows.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sally L. Huffman, and his father-in-law, Charles Minger.

          He is survived by a son, Jason (Wendy) Huffman; a daughter, Jennifer (Daniel) Bock; a sister, Sharon Huffman; and two grandchildren, Jonah and Emily Huffman, all of Sardis; and a mother-in-law, Virginia Minger, of New Matamoras.

          Family received friends Monday, Sept. 16, 2019, at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third St., New Martinsville, West Virginia, where Funeral Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019, with Evangelist Bob Crawford officiating.

          Interment will be in Sardis Cemetery, Sardis.

Huffman, Ronald C. Huffman

          Ronald C. Huffman, 74, of Woodsfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home. He was born in Woodsfield July 22, 1945, a son of the late Charles and Ruth Norris Huffman.

          He was a retired coal miner and a U.S. Army veteran. Ron was an outdoorsman and an avid fisherman, but his best times spent were being called PapPap.

          Preceded in death by his wife Billie Jean Huffman who he married in 1968, one sister Beverly Marmie, and one brother Wayne Huffman.

          He is survived by two sons, Troy (Kellie) Huffman, of Woodsfield, and Brent (Julie) Huffman, of Woodsfield; two grandchildren, Taylor Huffman and Paiten Huffman; and one sister Velma Guess, of Columbus, Ohio.

     Albert F. Hupp, 100, of Summerfield, Ohio passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at his home.

     He was born near Caldwell, Ohio on July 29, 1918 a son of the late Albert John Hupp and Matilda Nau Hupp.

     Albert was a retired dairy farmer and was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Belle Valley, Ohio. He also served his country in the U.S. Army during W.W. II where he was a P.O.W. and also received a Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0641, Belle Valley, Ohio; a member of the V.F.W. Post 4721, Caldwell, Ohio and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Albert enjoyed farming and most especially playing cards in his spare time.

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; Irene Archer Hupp on October 25, 2012; two sons, Ricky and William “Billy” Hupp; an infant brother; two brothers, Howard and Edward Hupp; three sisters, Mary Hill, Thelma Johnson and Luella Crum.

     Surviving are four daughters, Janie (Billie) Harris of Columbus, Ohio, Josephine (Richard) Knight of Columbus, Ohio, Julia (Ronald) Saling of Caldwell, Ohio, Diane (Gary) Cox of Columbus, Ohio; five sons, Robert (Anna) Hupp of Belle Valley, Ohio, Phil Hupp of the home, James (Theresa) Hupp of Carlisle, Ohio, John (Cheryl) Hupp of Sarahsville, Ohio, Joe (Davina) Hupp of Summerfield, Ohio, a daughter-in-law, Debbie Hupp of Summerfield, Ohio; three sisters, Agatha Schafer of Senecaville, Ohio, Leoba (Paul) Archer of Woodsfield, Ohio, Rose (Ronnie) Schell of Caldwell, Ohio; two brothers, Art (Grace) Hupp of Caldwell, Ohio, Norbert “Bill” (Janice) Hupp of Caldwell, Ohio; twenty-five grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

        Tayton Levi Hupp, age 14, of Cumberland, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2019. He was born February 18, 2005, in Marietta, a son of Victoria Saling (David) Russell, of Caldwell, and Jason (Amber) Hupp, of Cumberland.

        He was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Belle Valley, where he was an altar server. He was a recent eighth grade graduate of the Shenandoah Middle School, where he participated in football and track. He was a member of the Hoof-n-Hide 4-H Club and showed sheep at the county fair. Tayton was a huge OSU Buckeyes fan and enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding four wheelers. He loved putting up hay and mowing the grass with his dad.

        In addition to his parents, those left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Tristan M. Hupp and Toriana N. Hupp; step-siblings, Gabrielle Duke, Hunter Garvin, Rileigh, Kalie, Zoe, Kathleen and David Russell; maternal grandparents, Darrell Saling, of Caldwell, Kathy (Robert) Conquest, of North Carolina; paternal grandparents, Bob (Anna) Hupp, of Caldwell; great-grandfather Frank Glover, of South Carolina; godparents, Megan and Mike Saling. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

          She was born April 23, 1952, in Dublin, Ireland, a daughter of the late Patrick and Margaret Cunnins Owens.

          She was a homemaker and Catholic by faith.

          In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Tony Owens and Terry Owens; and two brothers-in-law, John Counsel and Christopher Buckley.

          Survivors include a son, Bryan (Sara) Hvizdzak, of Waterford; two grandsons, Brandon and Luke Hvizdzak; five brothers, Jimmy, John, Peter, Paul, and Harry; three sisters, Maeve, Anne and Sheila; several nieces and nephews.

          She was a homemaker and a member of Long Valley Baptist Church, of Wileyville, West Virginia, a member of VFW Auxiliary Post #9930, of Duffy, and American Legion Auxiliary Post #86, of Paden City, West Virginia.

          In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Junior Ice; two sisters, Verdanna “Pat” Penamonti and Clarabelle Litman; four brothers, Harold, Gale, Lawrence and Lewis Lively.

          Survivors include three sons, Terry (Nina) Ice, of Laings, Michael (Debra) Ice, of Friendly, West Virginia, and Bruce (Sheila) Ice of Astatula, Florida; three grandsons, Chris, Terry and Ethan Ice; one step-grandson, Kevin Thomas; two granddaughters, Teresa Fitzgerald and Jessica Ice; four great-grandchildren and one brother, James (Dorothy) Lively, of Buckhannon, West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

        She was born on August 31, 1975 in Ashland, the daughter of the late Donna (nee Harry) Turner.

        Denise graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1993. She was employed previously at Liqui-Box and most recently at Packaging Corporation of America.

        She lived her life to the fullest, enjoying spending time with her family and friends.

        Denise is survived by one daughter, Taylor Cranmore of Canton; three sons, Troy (Kalie) Cranmore, Trevor Cranmore, and Tyler Cranmore all of Ashland; six grandchildren, Journee, Jakoby, Ava, Ada, Mya, and Michael; her boyfriend, Darren Watts of Ontario and his son, Ryan Watts; and her previous husband and good friend, Troy Cranmore of Ashland.

        In addition to her mother, Donna, Denise is preceded in death by a husband, Merlin Isaac.

        Funeral services will be held, Friday, July 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Reverend Don Earlenbaugh officiating.           Vernon W. Ischy, age 92, of Lewisville, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at the Monroe County Care Center. He was born in Monroe County November 7, 1927, a son of the late Harry and Freda Rothacher Ischy.

          Vernon retired from Riesbeck’s Food Market, was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, Swiss Hills Arts and Crafts Association and co-owned Owl Hollow Crafts.

          He was preceded in death by many family members.

          He is survived by his wife Betty Evans Ischy, of Lewisville, whom he married Feb. 8, 1975; step-children, Talmage (Tom) and Jessica Evans of Lewisville, Christine and Allen Murphy of Marietta; three step-grandchildren, Dale Hughes, Laura Hughes and MacMillan Mushi; eight step-great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Dorothy Morris, Iva Wise, Eileen Wise and Juanita (Sheldon) Blair; several nieces, nephews, cousins and his dog, Tiny.

          Friends received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, December 20, at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, where funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 21, with Rev. Susan Lehosky officiating. Military services were held Saturday at the funeral home.           She was a homemaker, a member of Sardis United Methodist Church, played piano for Sunday school and was a member of the Joy Trio.

          In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, C. David Ivey and sister, Patty Ludolph.

          Survivors include her son, David L. (Carmella) Ivey of Clarington; three daughters, Tosha (Craig) Lowe of Marietta, Shawna Conners of Powhatan Point, and Shereen (Charles) Rush of Sardis; two sisters, Linda (Steve) Langsdorf and Diana (Rick) Tenley and brother-in-law, Randy Ludolph, all of Sardis; grandchildren, Nicholas (Julie) O’Neil, Meagan (Cody) Caretti, Brittany, Tiffany (Trey) Kohlreiser, and Kimberly Conners, Jadon (Shaylynn) Rush, Mytchell and Myla Ivey, Chelsea and Cary Wichterman; and eleven great-grandchildren with one on the way.

          Darrell F. “Sonny” Jackson, age 83, of Sardis, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta.

He was born January 18, 1936, in Sardis, the son of the late Darrell W. and Frances Doty Jackson.

          He was a retired steel worker at Ormet Corporation. Sonny became a Christian in 2015 and was a member of the Church of Christ, and was a U.S. Army veteran.

          In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jackie Potts and Lois Murphy; four brothers-in-law, Sam Murphy, Tom Boston, Clair Potts and Harold Isaly.

          Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Ruth Ann Bayes Jackson; son, Matthew Jackson of Newport; daughter, Kara (Steve) Foutty of Newport; brother, Ron (Phyllis) Jackson of Sardis; two sisters, Janet Isaly of Sardis, and Darlene Boston of New Matamoras; five grandchildren, Seth and Heath Foutty, Bailey, Madison and Logan Jackson; several nieces and nephews.

     He was born in Barnesville, Ohio on October 25, 1968 a son of Lewis M. Jackson Jr. who survives of Woodsfield, Ohio and Gloria Robinson Wiley who survives of Lewisville, Ohio.

     Lewis was a general laborer and a member of Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post 5303; a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2302, Woodsfield, Ohio and a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Beallsville, Ohio. Lewis enjoyed hunting, fishing, and helping other people.

     Surviving in addition to his parents are his companion, Elma Walton of Woodsfield, Ohio; two sisters, Tammy (Kevin) Rush of Wilson, Ohio and Stacey Cagle of Louisiana.

     There will be no visitation or service. Inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family at the Neuhart Cemetery near Woodsfield, Ohio.

          He was born in Alledonia, on Sept. 20, 1931, a son of the late Vernon and Norma Morris Jenewein.

          Neal was a retired employee of the former Ormet Corporation, Hannibal, and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War.

          Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Vaden Reagan; one daughter, Lisa Jenewein; one son, Dale Jenewein, both of New Castle; and one brother, Hillis Jenewein, of New Castle, Ohio.

          Friends were received Monday, April 29, 2019, at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield.

          Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at the Ebenezer Cemetery, Bethesda, with full military services.

          She was a member of the West Union Church of Christ. She loved quilting, reading and doing puzzles.

          She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil E. Jones (2012), a son, Kevin Jones, a son-in-law, Bill Pugh, a sister, Waneta Ketzell, and 2 brothers, Kenneth Lallathin and Gary Lallathin.

          She is survived by her daughter, Karen Pugh of New Martinsville, WV. A sister, Geraldine (Leslie) Minor of Columbus, Ohio. Two grandchildren, Jennifer Pugh and Tim Pugh both of New Martinsville, WV. One great grandchild, Owen Pugh.

        Mary Alice Jones, 84, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 25, 2019. She was born in Monroe County, Ohio, on February 16, 1935, to the late Charles Manford and Leota Mae Jones. Mary was a member of the Norton Church of Christ.

        She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Paul Jones, Charles Jones, Ned Jones, Arden Jones, Ruth Johnson, Cecil Jones and Grace Grossenbacher.

          She was born in Cameron July 4, 1924, a daughter of the late Stephen and Rachel Ady Ault.

          She was homemaker and a member of the Jackson Ridge Church of Christ near Woodsfield. She enjoyed knotting quilts and giving them away. Sylvia also enjoyed feeding one and all, so everyone always left her house with a full stomach.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph W. Jones on October 28, 2012; seven brothers, Floyd, Lester, Ralph, Stanley, Hilbert, Clyde and Chester Ault; two sisters, Erma Jones and Vera McConnell; and one step-great-grandson.

Virgil "PeePaw" Jones

     1956-2019

62, set sail for his final voyage on March 12, 2019. Born on July 16, 1956 in Canton to Doyle and Victoria Jones. And raised by his Uncle Charles and Aunt Bonnie Walker. A graduate of Canton South HS in 1974. Virgil retired after serving from 1974-1986 in the Navy. In later years Virgil began his second career in the Army and Navy Union USA, where he was a life member. He became National, Department, County, and Garrison Commander. He was a member of Garrison 1988 Shady Rest and life member of the DAV. For the year 2017-2018 he earned the distinguished honor of Mr Army & Navy. In 2005, Virgil married his best friend, Mary. They enjoyed long drives together. Watching the grand-kids in the pool. And working in the yard.

        His children Nikki Tanner, DC (Kelly) Tanner, Virgil Jones II, Stephen Jones, and Anthony (Jessica) Jones will deeply miss him. Grandchildren KayLee Tanner, Carson and Luca Tanner, Jeremy Clarke, and Nicholas Hammerling love and will miss their PeePaw. Virgil's favorite hobbies were any form of hunting or racing. Many times, Virgil took a long road to a short destinations with best friend Michael Clark. Stan Miller and Marty Reilly were often seen racing off with Virgil too. We don't want to know how much trouble they got into together. A special thanks to Cleveland VA Hospital PCU nurses for the care and compassion they gave to Virgil. To the VAD team, Dr. Zacharias, Dr. Osmond, Jeff Hansen, Kim (Kim-Baby) Huck, we can't express our gratitude. With your help, we were able to have two more years with our Sailor.

        Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday March 18, 2019 at Reed Funeral Home NORTH CANTON CHAPEL.           Mary Isabelle “Izzy” Kannan passed away Saturday, October 5, 2019, in Parkersburg, West Virginia. She was born in Middlebourne, West Virginia, to Harvey and Mary (Bickerstaff) Haught on November 18, 1920.

In 1940 she married Richard “Coke” Kannan, who passed away August 10, 2005. Izzy, with her husband, owned and managed Kannan’s Variety Store in Paden City, West Virginia for twenty-eight years. She loved making pies and crocheting hats for charity, making hundreds of them.

          Surviving are a daughter Christine Heintzman, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, and a sister Ona Robertson, of Irving, Texas.

          Izzy was loved by so many. She had the best heart and the most contagious laugh. She touched so many people with her kindness. She will be deeply missed. She requested no services. Burial will be at Green-lawn Memorial Park in New Martinsville, West Virginia.

          Daniel L. Kastrevec, age 66, of Clarington, Ohio, died Monday, February 25, 2019, in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale, West Virginia.

          He was born November 28, 1952, in Martins Ferry, the son of the late Edward and Doris Liniger Kastrevec.

          He was a U.S. Army veteran; a former HVAC installer and coal miner; a member of American Legion Post #760, Hannibal; an avid Cleveland Browns Fan, and he enjoyed spending time with his friends.

          In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, John Kastrevec.

          Survivors include a daughter, Kallie (Todd Hager) Kastrevec of Glen Dale; a son, Dustin (Amanda) Kastrevec of Shadyside; a nephew, Eddie (Amanda) Kastrevec of Clarington; and several great-nephews and great-nieces.

          Private services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

          Arrangements entrusted to Grisell Funeral Home, Clarington, Ohio.

 

Kremer, Shirley Ruth Kremer, nee Hawkins

          Shirley Ruth Kremer, age 90, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2019. She was born April 19, 1929, in Woodsfield. A resident of Tipp City since 1955, she was preceded in death by her parents Waldo Emerson “Bud” and Alice Claire (Utsinger) Hawkins, and by her husband John David Kremer in 1999.

          She is survived by her children, Kay (Jim) Phillips of Cleveland, Karen Kremer of Tipp City, and JD (Lisa) Kremer of Laura; grandchildren, Andrea (Justin) Sitlinger, Todd (Amanda) Phillips, Emily (Mark) Heitkamp, Beth (Andy) Saunders, Courtney Kremer, Kyle (Stefani) Kremer, Jonathan (Lianiz) Sandusky, Sean (Christina) Sandusky; and 16 great-grandchildren.

          Shirley graduated as an RN from the Wheeling School of Nursing. She worked in Norfolk, Virginia; Chicago, Illinois; and Troy, Ohio at Stouder Memorial Hospital (which became the Upper Valley Medical Center) where she retired after over 27 years of service, most of which was in the OB department newborn nursery. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Tipp City Garden Club, Community Minded Women, Silver Sneakers, plus she enjoyed many years of gardening, playing bridge, and UVMC retiree activities. Throughout her life, Shirley was known by her many friends and family to be strong, caring, loyal, full of zest, and always helpful with babies.

          A private service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Frings & Bayliff Funeral Home, Tipp City, Ohio.

 

Keylor, Lillie M. Keylor, nee Stephens

          Lillie M. Keylor, age 81, of Caldwell, Ohio, formerly of Woodsfield, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta, Ohio. She was born July 20, 1937, in Sunnyside, Washington, a daughter of the late Clyde and Martha Morris Stephens.

          In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by one sister, Sue Buckenberger.

          Those left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Christine (David) Reed, of Caldwell; a son, Christopher (Lisa) Keylor of Cohutta, Georgia; grandchildren, Kara (Michael) Dixon of Lewisville, Chad (Amy) Kilburn of Newport, Jessica Keylor of Morehead, Kentucky, Callie Keylor of Lexington, Kentucky, Jacob Keylor and Emily Keylor, both of Cohutta, Georgia; two great-grandchildren, Holden Dixon and Kolby Kilburn; one sister, Norma Jean Cline of Summerfield; one brother, James (Patty) Stephens of Caldwell. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.

          The family received friends for visitation from 10-11 a.m. Monday, April 22 at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell. A funeral service concluded visitation at 11 a.m. Monday, April 22 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Mark Frenier officiating. Burial followed in Eastern Cemetery in Summerfield, Ohio.

          Memorial contributions may be directed in Lillie’s name to the Caldwell Church of Christ, 104 Cumberland Street, Caldwell, OH 43724.

 

King, Howard Lawrence King

        Howard Lawrence King, age 69 of Warren, OH, formerly of WV, departed this life on the morning of April 10, 2019, following a brief battle with cancer.

        He was born August 7, 1949 in Calhoun County, WV; son of the late Lawrence B. King and Ernestine Gregory.

        Howard retired from Premier Manufacturing in Cleveland, OH with over 30 years of service.

       Howard always had a love for his home state and the hills of WV and in his younger days spent his spare time in WV camping, four-wheeler riding with his family and friends.

       Surviving is his step-mother, Jean King of Glenville, WV; daughter, Sandra Molnar (Ron) of OH; 2 sons, Howard King Jr. and Michael King both of OH; 2 sisters, Sue Helmick (Joe) of Cleveland, OH and Brenda Parker (Billy) of Linn, WV; and 3 brothers, Rick King (Carla) of Burnsville, WV; Johnny King of Camden, WV and Steve King of Glenville, WV.

       Also surviving are several grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.

        Howards request for one final ride through WV has been honored and a funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc; 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV 26351 at 11:00 AM; Saturday, April 20, 2019 with Pastor Kenny Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in the Hiney Cemetery near Linn, WV. Friends will be received from 10:00 – 11:00 AM; Saturday morning at the mortuary in Glenville.

          Jerry D. Kinney, 71, of Woodsfield, Ohio, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2019, at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge.

          She was born in New Martinsville, West Virginia, on September 29, 1947, a daughter of the late Robert H. and Freda Gray Baker.

          Jerry was the founder and former owner/operator of Jerry Lee’s Pizza in Woodsfield and was a member of the Graysville Church of Christ in Graysville.

          Surviving are a son Richard Cooper, of Las Vegas, Nevada; one step-daughter, Heather (Toby) Tate of Wooster; two step-sons, Patrick (Wally) Kinney of Ashland, Wisconsin, and Daniel (Jennifer) Kinney of Orrville; several step-grandchildren and her dog and faithful friend, Chico.

          In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leland E. Kinney on November 29, 2005.

          Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. Friday, February 22, 2019, with Jeremy Kinney officiating.

          Burial will follow in the Graysville Church of Christ Cemetery, Graysville, Ohio.

 

Kinney, Stanley Joseph Kinney

        Stanley Joseph Kinney, 61, of Loudonville, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at UH Samaritan Medical Center in Ashland. Born July 21, 1958 in Lodi, Ohio, he was the son of Forrest "Wimp" and Roberta (Clifford) Kinney. Stanley was a very kind and caring man who never met a stranger. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He worked as a truck driver for many years and loved being outside. He also loved driving his Jeeps and was always searching for trails to drive on.

        He is survived by his children, Jamie Colley of Boiling Springs, South Carolina, Mollie Kinney of Mansfield and Tessa Maffett of Perrysville, Ohio; his grandchildren, Trent, Alexis, Cory, Noah, Merrideth, Gage, Dawson, Corbin, Laiken, Skyla, Arabella, Landyn; his great-grandchildren, Emma and two little girls on the way; his sister, Shirley Smith of Lakeville, Ohio; his brothers, Raymond Kinney and Randy Kinney both of Burbank, Ohio; and his significant other, Carolyn Cockrell of Loudonville, Ohio.

        In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Don Kinney and Ralph Kinney.

        There will be no services at this time. Wappner Cremation Center is honored to serve the family of Stanley Joseph Kinney.

 

Kinsey, Jane A. Kinsey, nee Amos

          Jane A. Kinsey, 59 of New Matamoras, passed away Friday, Aug. 16, 2019, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia.

          She was born Oct. 7, 1959, in Marietta, a daughter of the late Jack and Jenena Beaver Amos. 

          Jane retired after 38 years as a registered nurse and attended the Brownsville Church of Christ. 

          She is survived by her husband, David Kinsey, of New Matamoras; two sons, Christopher (Cassie) Kinsey, of Proctor, West Virginia, and Matthew (Megan) Kinsey, of Jacksonburg, West Virginia; and one daughter Katie (Kyle) Krieg, of New Matamoras; two brothers, Tom (Mary) Amos, of Devola, and Dennis (Terry) Amos, of Las Vegas, Nevada; and two grandchildren, Chloe and David Kinsey.

          Friends were received Wednesday Aug. 21, 2019, at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield.

          As per Jane’s request cremation will take place afterward and burial will be held at a later date.

          Lucille V. Kinsey, 80, of New Matamoras, Ohio, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2019, at Arbors of Woodsfield. She was born March 13, 1939, in Fly, the daughter of the late Roy and Velma Minger Ludolph.

          Lucille was a member of the Brownsville Church of Christ. She worked for the Barcus Company of Columbus as an assistant to the manager at Parkway Townhouses in New Matamoras from October 1984 through June 2008.

          Preceded in death by her husband, Donald C. Kinsey on November 29, 1980; and four brothers, Carl, Frank, Ralph and Russell Ludolph.

          She is survived by three children, Deborah (Robert) Miller, David (Jane) Kinsey and Daniel (Polly) Kinsey, all of New Matamoras; two sisters, Gladys Taylor and Shirley Blosser, of New Matamoras; six grandchildren, Joshua (Eliza) Miller of Selma, Indiana, Valerie (Patrick) Hooper of St. Mary’s, West Virginia, Christopher (Cassie) Kinsey of Proctor, West Virginia, Matthew (Megan) Kinsey of Jacksonburg, West Virginia, Katie (Kyle) Krieg of New Matamoras, and Sara Kinsey of New Matamoras; eight great-grandchildren, Adelyn, Titus, Caleb and Silas Miller, Paul and Samuel Hooper, and Chloe and David Kinsey.

          Friends received from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 9 at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, Ohio, where funeral services were held at 11a.m. Wednesday, July 10, with Tim Fleeman officiating. Burial followed in the German Lutheran Cemetery, Brownsville, Ohio.

          Preceded in death by her husband Ronald Wayne Knowlton Sr.- March 27, 2017.

          She is survived by several brothers and sisters.

Kress, Martha C. Kress, nee Burkhart

          Martha C. Kress, 98, of Woodsfield, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019, at the Monroe County Care Center, Woodsfield, surrounded by her loving family.

          She was born near Miltonsburg, on Dec. 21, 1920, a daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Schafer Burkhart.

          Martha was a homemaker and a member of the St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield, where she was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club. She enjoyed playing bingo and going to church.

          In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Kress Sr.; two sons, Fred and Clem Kress; two brothers, John and Charles Burkhart; five sisters, Gertrude Harding, Florence Hayes, Alice Yarus, Marie Burkhart and Helen Burkhart; a son-in-law, Floyd Griffin.

          Surviving are three daughters, Evelyn Griffin, of Canton, Helen (Jerry) Dillon, of Canton, and Chris (Joe) Hoff, of Woodsfield; four sons, Robert (Darlene) Kress, of Burns Harbor, Indiana, William (Lori) Kress, of Canton, Ralph (Lucia) Kress, of Bakersfield, California, and George Kress Jr., of Bakersfield, California; two daughters-in-law, Sharon Kress, of Woodsfield, and Genni Kress, of Caldwell; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

          Friends were received Monday, Sept. 23, 2019, at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield. A vigil service followed visitation.

          Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019, at the St. Sylvester Catholic Church, 330 Main St., Woodsfield, with Rev. David Gaydosik as the celebrant.

          Burial followed in the St. Sylvester Cemetery, Woodsfield.

Krieg, Gladys L. Krieg, nee Ludolph

          Gladys L. Krieg, 102, of Krieg Ridge Road, Sardis, Ohio, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019, at her home. She was born November 1, 1916, at the home of her parents, the late Henry and Addie Williamson Ludolph.

          She was a faithful and supportive member of Saint Paul’s Church Trail Run for 83 years and was a member of the Ladies Aid.

          Preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Albert L. Krieg (December 1999); an infant son, Harry (July 1945); two brothers, Charles and Robert Ludolph; and two sisters, Clara Kinney and Libbie Krieg.

          She is survived by her children Emerson (Bonnie) Krieg, Mary Louise (Wayne) Taylor, and Gary (Carole) Krieg; six grandchildren, Bryan Krieg, Brent Krieg, Marlene Taylor Dicken, Charlene Taylor Griffith, Darlene Taylor and Carrie Krieg Love; seven great-grandchildren, Brandon Krieg, Breanna Krieg Fowler, Kyle Krieg, Bryan Griffith, Adam Dicken, Tanner Krieg and Brandon Dicken; and two great-great-grandchildren, Rachel and Ryker Fowler.

          A special thanks to Vicki Lohr of Stonerise Home Hospice for all her help and comfort.

          This life was lived, this life ended, new life in Heaven has begun.

          Michael John Kulhawik, 54, of Woodsfield, Ohio, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019, at his home. He was born February 3, 1965, in Jackson, Michigan, a son of the late Timothy Paul Kulhawik and Judith Lynn Hartwig Kulhawik.

          Mike was a Christian and believed in Jesus. He was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph Anthony Kulhawik and Jeffrey Charles Kulhawik. He is survived by his wife, Michele Wilson, of Woodsfield, sisters, Patricia (Joe) Tippens, of Spring Arbor, Michigan, and Mary (Mark Stetler) Kulhawik, of Jackson, Michigan. He was Pappy to Kaedy Rae, Gaven, Zane and Liam.

          Interment at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul Street, Woodsfield.

 

Kurtz, John Franklin Kurtz

        John Franklin Kurtz, 70, of Barnesville, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Ohio Valley Medical Center. John was born in Malaga on May 26, 1948, to the late Theodore and Shirley (Morris) Kurtz.

        John was a mechanic by trade who enjoyed working on cars and woodworking. He was well known for his meticulous yard work and for his display of Christmas lights. He loved playing cards and making homemade wine for his family and friends to enjoy.

        In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his siblings: Donald Kurtz, Bill (Linda) Kurtz, Margie Fansler and Mary Kurtz; and brother-in-law, Jerry Wickes.

        John is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Linda K. Kurtz; children: Sherry (Kenny) Crum of Newark, Peggy Kurtz of Barnesville. John (Penny) Kurtz of Barnesville and Christine (Jeremy) Ghent of California; eight grandchildren: Rachel (Phil) Williams, Michelle (Scott) Baker, Lindsay (Aub) Nolan, John Tyler Kurtz, Kyle Yaquinta, Jamey Taylor, Cameron Ghent and Alex Ghent; six great-grandchildren; five siblings: Minnie (Charles) Saffell, Jim (Sue) Kurtz, Helen (Barry) Nelms, Linda Wickes and Phyllis (Dean) Dingus; sisters-in-law, Sharon Kurtz, Helen Harvey and Nancy (Larry) Wise; brother-in-law, Glenn Brown; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Lulu.

        Visitation was Tuesday, March 12, 2019, with funeral services later with Pastor Ed Eberhart at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville.

 

Kyer, David Eugene Kyer

        David Eugene “Redneck” Kyer, 64 of Richwood, WV went home to be with the Lord on June 5, 2019 in United Hospital Center, Bridgeport, WV after a long illness.

        Dave was born August 11, 1954 in Richwood to the late Franklin Eugene and Dorothy Knight Kyer.

        He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle.

        He loved to ginseng, hunt with Austin and teaching him to use heavy equipment.

        He was a 1972 Graduate of Richwood High School.

        He was a former member of Richwood Vol. Fire Department with 40+ years of service. His last unit number was 1121.

        United States Navy Vietnam.

        He was retired coal miner and known all over the state of WV for his heavy equipment operator skills. Known for his hard work.
