Abbott, Ernest Abbott “Ernie”
Source: Monroe County Beacon,
Woodsfield, Ohio May 14, 2014
On May 3, 2014, Ernie Abbott went to
heaven to visit long-gone family and friends.
Ernie left behind a loving family: a beautiful wife of 67 years, Annie Fay;
three daughters, Loretta Faye, Pamela Maye, and Patsy Ann; and one son, Ernest
Samuel Abbott; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren.
Ernie was born in Sterns County, Kentucky in
1921, a son of Myrtle King and William Harrison Abbott. He had six brothers and
5 sisters. Ernie was an Army Veteran serving in WWII, after which he settled in
Monroe County to start a family. He retired after 40 years of service as a coal
miner.
Ernie was a family man first and foremost, and continually proved his love for his wife.
Ernie excelled in baseball so much that he turned down several opportunities to
play professionally. He turned his talent into coaching little league and
playing in minor leagues.
He loved country and bluegrass music.
He played guitar, banjo and mandolin, and he sang at Wheeling Jamboree. At one
time, he and Annie took into their home David Allen Coe, “Tee Coe”. Ernie and
Annie convinced Tee Coe to move to Nashville where he became well-known in
country music. Ernie loved his music so much and never tired of learning new
songs and how to play them better.
Ernie was an extraordinary man and was the
last of a dying breed who knew the true meaning of chivalry. He touched the
lives of all who knew him and will be sorely missed by all his family and
friends.
*A note from a friend: A baseball
player of the first degree could have made this game a career. But, he opted
instead to hold tight to his love, his wife who he cherished so dear. He worked
in the mines for so many years ‘til he headed to Florida to stay. The climate
was good and treated him well and he loves that state still today. It hurt a
lot when they moved away, but of course, we still kept in touch. I saw him in
February and said my goodbyes, he knew that I loved
him so much. I lived with them when I was young and Annie still loves to say
how when I moved in, I ran right past her, grabbed Ernie, said “I’m here to
stay.” When a package of cigarettes he saw in my jeans said, “Do you really
need those? They make you look ugly” and in a basket they went. He saved my
life, I suppose. I could go on and on with my memories of him, but I guess you
know how I feel. I’ll just plug the hole he left in my heart and pray for the
family to heal. A forever friend, Dorothy Ricer.

Allen,
Beverly Ann Allen, nee Mace
Source: The Skagit Valley Herald, Mount Vernon,
Washington; July 12, 2014
In the spring of 1981 I met and fell in
love with Bev. For more than 30 years I have found unimaginable happiness
sharing life with her. Early the morning of June 26, she lost her long and
terrible battle with diabetes and heart disease. Her family was present and
able to express their love and final good byes before she quietly left us. Bev
was joy and love incarnate. Fun to be with and never complained even as her
health was failing. For many years she worked in mental health and later as a
social worker for the State of Washington. She was the daughter of Don and Anna
Mace now both deceased.
She is survived by her three children,
Troy Allen, Kim Allen and Genniefer Dawson; grandchildren Jordan, Diondre and
Angelica Allen and one great grandson Nathaniel; her brother Donald Mace and
his wife Michelle and their three children, Tara, Tanya and Travis; her other
brother Joe Mace and his wife Sue Ann, their daughter Jessica and her husband
Jarrod, and their three children, Joey, Eloise and Zeke; their youngest
daughter Becky and her husband Rob and their son Oliver. Her
partner's sons Talman Welle and his spouse Sterling, and Talman's daughter
Shannon; Dalton Welle; also her partner's sister Julie Funk. Bev also
had relatives in West Virginia and elsewhere.
This kind, gentle, loving and noble
spirit will be missed greatly. She touched many lives and all were enriched and
made better because of it. Especially me, her soul mate, Art
Welle.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to
make a memorial gift in her name can contribute to the American Red Cross, PO
Box 97089, Washington, DC 20090-7089; or online www. redcross.

After marrying Hilda, they lived on
their farm in Lewisville. He spent his time farming, going to auctions, stock
sales, and piddling around. When he passed you, he was usually in his “good
truck” and he always threw up his hand to wave. You knew it was Dale by the way
he wore his hat with the little tilt to the side. He loved time spent
butchering, cutting up meat, grinding and smoking sausage with his family. He
also liked taking the grand-kids to the cabin to hunt.
Dale was very proud of all his
grandchildren and bragged on them to his family and friends all the time. He
also enjoyed running around with his brother, Francis, hauling wood, going to
the Amish store, and anything else they could find to do. He recently had one
of his best days at Buffalo Flea Market with his nephew, Steve. Lastly, let’s
not forget his companion, Buddy the dog. Dale said there was never a dog as
close to a human as Buddy. Dale will be sadly and deeply missed by all those

Feb. 6 to Feb. 7, 2014
Life-long Alaskan Colleen Burgh died
peacefully in her sleep at her Anchorage home surrounded by family on February
2, 2014 after a 17 month battle with cancer. She was 57.
Colleen, the daughter of Rodney and
Sheila Burgh (who preceded her in death), was born in Ketchikan back in
Territorial days on March 12, 1956. The family moved to Anchorage in 1960 and
she remembered well riding out the 1964 earthquake in their home in Turnagain.
Ballet was a big attraction to young Colleen until she convinced her father
that she was ready for her first horse, Irish Mist, beginning a life-long love
affair with horses. She and her friends would ride through what is now Earthquake
Park for hours.
Graduating from West High School in
1974, she was student body president and senior prom queen. Her involvement in
the school choir led to a year with Up With People
before heading to Washington State University intent on becoming a
veterinarian. But a class on sustainable foods changed her life. She became a
vegetarian (not a veterinarian) and decided on a career to make the planet a
cleaner and safer place. That desire took her to the
University of Oregon where she graduated with a degree in Biology and met Jim
Stratto' Stratton, who eventually became her husband.
Colleen scored her first job with the
Department of Environmental Conservation in Juneau in 1981 and quickly acquired
a reputation for being the Department's conscience. DEC transferred her to
Anchorage in 1984 where she could be closer to her family and where the weather
is better for horses. Her experience cleaning up oil spills in Southeast landed
her in the middle of the Exxon Valdez prioritizing beach clean-up in the
initial response and serving two years as the Deputy On-Scene Coordinator,
essentially directing the day-to-day clean-up through 1991.
She got her next horse, Irish Rose, in
1989 and had horses in her backyard paddock until earlier this year. Most
recently Casey, a large Irish Sport Horse she bought in Ireland, was her equine
partner. Colleen volunteered both her and Casey's time with Rainbow Connection,
the therapeutic horse riding program for people with special needs. She was so
proud when Casey was named Therapeutic Horse of the Year in 2013.Casey
continues to serve as a therapeutic horse at Swiftsure Ranch in Idaho.
Ireland played a huge part in Colleen's
life. Her mother emigrated from County Cork and Colleen traveled with family
back to Ireland many times, visiting relatives, taking every opportunity to
ride horses in the Irish countryside and relishing pints of Guinness.
Her professional career took Colleen to
work for CH2M Hill in 1991, where she coordinated clean-ups of military sites
around the state. A return to state employment with the natural gas pipeline
office during the Knowles Administration and time with EPA in 2003 led her to
work for BP in the Health, Safety and Environment section.
In addition to her love of animals -
her four-legged companions included golden retrievers and cats - she and
Stratto loved to travel and explore the world. They have spent months paddling
around Southeast Alaska and hiking through the Brooks Range. A desire to see wild
tigers took them to India and the cats of Africa took them to that continent
numerous times. She swam with turtles in the Galapagos, trekked through the
ruins of Angkor Wat, rode horses at the great pyramids and hiked her way into
Machu Picchu. Her last big adventure was taking the train across Canada from
Vancouver to Halifax last summer.
Colleen never fully realized the number
of lives she touched. Her humor, warm heart and generosity will be missed by
her family, colleagues and countless friends. She is survived by her husband,
Stratto; her siblings, Don Burgh, Bill Burgh and Patti Eachon, their spouses;
and 15 nieces and nephews.
Gifts in memory can be made to Alaska
Equine Rescue (www.alaskaequinerescue.com) or to the Colleen Burgh Fund for
Science and the Law at Trustees for Alaska (www.trustees.org), where she served
as a Board Member.
An Irish Wake will be held on Sunday,
followed by a Funeral Mass on Monday, February 10, at St. Patrick's Catholic
Church in Muldoon at 1 p.m.

also survived by her 3 brothers; Gordon Blair of Vienna, WV, Richard Blair of
Bradenville, Florida, and Larry Blair of Parkersburg, WV, and one sister
Barbara Sprouse of Parkersburg, WV.
All who
knew Violet loved her, as she was a hard person not to love. She had a sweet
disposition and welcomed all into her house and treated even strangers like
members of her extended family and not even strangers were ever allowed to
leave her house hungry.
As a
young woman she enjoyed hunting and fishing and always loved the outdoors as
well as animals of all kinds, which more often than not she treated as people.
Violet
was always quick to offer help to any that needed it. She was a devoted wife,
mother, and grandmother and a good friend to all who knew her. She will be
sorely missed until we all meet again on the other side.
Funeral
services will be held 10:30 am Thursday the 29th at McClure-Schafer-Lankford
Funeral Home with visitation beginning 2:00 pm Wednesday with the family
present from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm.

Dye, Nancy Louise Dye
Source: Monroe County Beacon, Woodsfield,
Ohio February 19, 2014
Nancy Louise Dye was born July 30,
1949, and departed this life February 11, 2014, at the age of 64. She was the
daughter of Bertha (Hensel) and Thomas Dye, Sr.
Nancy loved and received love from
many people. She had a special bond with her mom and now renews that bond in
heaven.
Even though she was born with several
problems and was not able to do several things, she still perservered and
enjoyed life. Her spunk helped her through her trials and she had many. Nancy
was very strong-willed and definitely got her point across. Many doctors had
told the family that Nancy had little brain activity and no thought process.
Anyone who knew her knows that was not true. She liked to help out by setting
the table, washing and drying dishes. She decided that doing that was her
responsibility and did not want anyone else doing them. She would wait until
they were done, take them out of the cupboard and do them over.
She had a great sense of humor and
contagious laugh. Nancy was an inspiration and blessing to all who knew her.
Her trials have come to an end and she will be reunited with family and friends
who have gone to heaven before her.
Nancy was preceded in death by her
parents, Bertha Mae (Hensel) and her step-father Francis Merle Cline.
She is survived by two brothers,
Thomas Dye Jr. (Debbie) of Trail Run and Loren E. Cline (Kay) of Ashland; two
sisters, Linda S. McBride of Ashland and Teresa J. Cline of New Matamoras who
lovingly cared for her many years; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces,
great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Family received friends February 13.
Funeral services were held February 14 at Hadley Funeral Home, Matamoras
Chapel, with Rev. James Smith and Rev. Ron Weber officiating.
Burial was held in the Unity
Cememtery.
