Monroe County Beacon, Woodsfield, Ohio, dated, March 30, 2006

Edwinna Grimes died March 18, 2006, at Mayfair Nursing Home, after a brief illness. She was born to the late Harper and Lulu Grimes in Woodsfield.

As a young woman she came to Columbus, where after completing her studies at Bliss Business College, began her career as an executive secretary at the Ohio State University. She worked in various areas at the university but spent most of her career as a very able and much appreciated administrative assistant to Frederick Stecker, who was the Director of University Relations. She retired early from OSU in order to attend to the needs of her elderly parents, whom she lovingly cared for until their deaths. In her devoted attention to them, she was a beautiful example of living out the fifth commandment to “ honor your father and mother.” Edwinna was a member of the Indian Springs Church of Christ for many years, but most recently, had attended the Kenny-Fishinger Church of Christ. Her faith in Jesus Christ was the source of peace that comforted her throughout her life and especially as her death approached. All those who knew Edwinna-employer, friends, neighbors, her sisters and brothers in Christ, the residents and care-givers at Mayfair retirement Center, describe her as a sweet, caring, gentle lady. And indeed, those words aptly describe her.

Surviving are a brother Roger (Joyce); nephew, Gary of Palmdale, CA; great-nieces and nephews.

There were private graveside services on March 23 in Woodsfield. A memorial service is planned for a later time.

Memorial contributions may be made to Midwestern Children’s Home, P.O. Box 48, Pleasant Plain, OH 43162 or Willow Brook Christian Home, 55 Lazalle Rd., Worthington, OH 43235.

Local arrangements by Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield.
