Saffell, Floyd Leroy, Sr., 65 of West Captina Highway, Alledonia, Ohio died Friday, June 17, 2005 at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, West Virginia. He was born December 5, 1939 in Alledonia. A son of the late Kenneth L. Saffell and Sylvia Ruschak Saffell. He was a construction worker and former owner of Saffell Trucking.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Lloyd; and brothers, Bob, Richard, and Don; sister, Nancy Mollendick.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Sleasman Saffell; nine children, Patty (Lee) Beckett of Beallsville, Mary Saffell of Alledonia, Judy Ring of Graysville, Denease Saffell of Bethesda, Floyd (Karen McGilton) Saffell, Jr. of Beallsville, Joe (Tomi) Saffell of Powhatan Point, David Saffell of Alledonia, Brady (Sandy) Saffell of Alledonia, and Cindy Saffell of Alledonia; three brothers, Mike and Roger Saffell of Beallsville and John Saffell of New Lexington; sister, Lucille Gillette of North Carolina; 17 grandchildren; a great grandson; aunts, Wilma Mathis and Lila Ruschak of Alledonia. Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg on Sunday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday with  Pastor James M. Agnew II officiating. Burial follows in Armstrong Cemetery, Armstrongs Mills, Ohio.

 

Sampson, Rita Sampson, nee Neuhardt

        Rita M. Sampson, 76, of Bethesda, Ohio, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling. She was born March 25, 1929 in Barnesville, a daughter of the late Edmund and Lillie (Thornberry) Neuhardt.

        She was a retired manager of Arborgate Inns, Lancaster, Ohio, and member of East Main Street Church of Christ.

        She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Sampson (6/10/96); a daughter, Peggy Jo Sampson; sister, Donna Jean Neuhardt and five brothers: John Howard, Wilmer, Albert, Kenneth and Charles Phillip Neuhardt.

        Surviving are two sons, Greg (Claire) Sampson of Westerville, Ohio and John L. (Melissa) Sampson of Barnesville; two daughters: Maureen (Curtis) McBride, and Jennifer (Rodney) Wheeler, both of Bethesda; two sisters, Marie Bailey of Texas and Martha Wells of Barnesville and 13 grandchildren.

        Friends will be received 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday at Campbell- Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville, Ohio, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, with Evangelist Val Roxby officiating. Burial follows in Crestview Cemetery, Barnesville, Ohio.

Sanati, James E. "Corky" Jr., age 63, of St. Clairsville, Ohio passed away on February 25, 2005 in Wheeling Hospital. He was born July 28, 1941 in Martins Ferry, Ohio, son of the late James E. and Lena Campbell Sanati. James was a retired teacher and athletic director at Bridgestreet Junior High in Elm Grove, West Virginia.  He was a dedicated and caring teacher, a friend to all his students.  He was a member of Bannock United Methodist Church; a member of the St. Clairsville Alumni Association; Lowell Lodge #436 F. & A.M. at Lowell, Ohio; a life member of the National Rifle Association; and an avid supporter of the Boy Scouts of America having been an Eagle Scout himself.

In addition to his parents, Corky was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Stewart Sanati; a grandson, Shane Edward Sanati and an aunt, Mary Sanati.

Surviving are his four daughters, Melissa (Joe) Reinbold of St. Clairsville, Kathryn Smith of Bellaire, Jamie Sanati of Moundsville, WVa and Mary Beth Lewis of Woodsfield; two sisters, Ruth Ann (Joe) Panepinto of Morgantown, WVa and Marlena (Rod) Thomas of St. Clairsville; a brother, Joseph Sanati of Selma, Oregon; an aunt, Goldie (Marvin) Ureel of Detroit, Michigan; twelve grandchildren, Christopher, Douglas, Alissa, Austin, Mason, Travis, Trevor, James, Kara, Jacob, T.J., and Mary Jane; 3 nieces; 3 nephews; Greg Smith of Bellaire; and a lifelong friend, Richard Pogany of St. Clairsville. Family and friends will be received on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, where services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Sanchez, Deborah Jean Sanchez, nee Brogdon

        DEBORAH  JEAN  BROGDON  SANCHEZ was born on Aug 10, 1956 in Houston. She passed into the Lord's hands on May 9, 2005 at the age of 48. Debbie was a graduate of Texas A&M and enjoyed horticulture. Beloved daughter of George and Jean Brogdon; cherished sister of Georgia Anne Brogdon and Tracy Lee Tiller and her husband Bart; devoted mother of Ashley Christine Sanchez; and beloved friend to many.

        A celebration of Debbie's life will be Tuesday, May 17th at 2:30 PM at Forest Park Lawndale's Chapel of Angels. The family will greet friend from 1 PM until service time Tuesday. Burial will follow in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.

 

Sanders, Betty Jean Sanders, nee Gray

        Betty Jean Sanders, 76, of Elmwood Presbyterian Lodge, died Wednesday, October 26, 2005, at her residence. She was born in Woodsfield, Ohio, on February 24, 1929, daughter of the late Jessie and Mildred Moose Grey. She was a homemaker.

        In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse and Billy Gray; and a sister, Martha Lee Hines. She is survived by two sons, Gary Flynn, and Jeffery Sanders and his wife Barbara, all of Erie; two daughters, Patty Snyder and her husband Rick, and Debbie Walk and her husband Greg, all of Erie; and a sister, Virginia Roehm of Erie. Further survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

        Friend may call at Burton Funeral Home, 602 W. 10th St., Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Services and burial will be private.

 

Sanor, Shirley A. Stuller Sanor, nee Dailey

        BELOIT - Shirley A. Stuller Sanor, 69, of Beloit, died at 6:11 p.m. Saturday at Northside Hospital in Youngstown.

Born Aug. 30, 1935 in Sebring, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Ruth (Hawley) Dailey.

        Mrs. Sanor worked as a secretary at Brunks Stoves & RV in Salem, retiring in 1997, and was a former employee at the former Midland Buckeye in Sebring.

        She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Sebring and was a 1953 graduate of Sebring High School. She also was a former choir member of St. Ann Church and Alliance Senior Citizens and was treasurer of the Floridians Womens Club.

        She was preceded in death on April 24, 1997 by her first husband, Arthur Stuller.

        Survivors included her husband, Clarence L. Sanor, whom she married Oct. 3, 2000; two daughters, Lauretta (Steve) Troyer of Beloit and Christine (Robert)

Baird of Middletown; three sons, Michael (Carol) Stuller of Alliance, Todd (Christa) Stuller of Beloit and Karl Stuller of Youngstown; five stepdaughters, Paula Stewart of Homeworth, Mary Ann Fulcher of Hatteras, N.C., Kathleen Stryffeler of Beloit, Lura Umbs of Salem and Melissa Williams of Damascus; one stepson, Edward L. Sanor of Beloit; one sister, Jeanne Mummert of Realto, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

        She also was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Alfred.

        Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home in Sebring with Rev. Francis Burkhart officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery in Sebring.

        Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

        Memorial contributions may be made to the Beloit Fire & Rescue Squad.

 

Satterfield, Elmer Lee Satterfield

          SUNNYSIDE - Elmer Lee Satterfield, 81, beloved husband, father, and grandfather died Thursday, July 28, 2005, peacefully at home in Sunnyside after a long fight against cancer. Elmer was born September 7, 1923 to Roper Lee and Ersa Margaret (Brown) Satterfield in Palisade, Colorado.  He was the youngest of ten children. He never had a chance to graduate from school so farming was the dearest thing to him besides family. He loved working with mother earth and could always be found outside till dark.           In 1942, Elmer came to Washington to visit his brother and met his future wife, Thelma I. Kinkade, of Mabton. He went into the Navy in 1943 and served in World War II. On June 19, 1945, he received military leave and married Thelma in Selah. Later that year he received an honorable discharge. In 1946, the first of his two children was born, David E., and Karen L. They were his pride and joy.

         Elmer and Thelma settled in Mabton and farmed on Satus for several years. He loved raising mint, hay, corn, potatoes, sugar beets, and cattle.  Elmer was known for his beautiful, straight rows, and large and weed-less gardens that grew the best tasting vegetables around. In 1971, Elmer went to work for the Mabton School District as maintenance man. He later went to work for the Grandview School District and retired in 1988 as Maintenance Supervisor.

           After retirement, Elmer and Thelma had time to travel. They spent most of their time traveling to Washington State Fiddlers Contests and to the best-known fishing holes. Elmer learned how to play guitar at a young age and enjoyed playing with friends till the wee hours of the morning.  He won many awards and trophies for best accompanist at various local contests and at the National level.

           After Elmer was diagnosed with cancer, he wasn't able to go fishing and camping as much so he spent a lot of his time chewing the fat with various people at the Outpost while having coffee. Elmer will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.           Elmer is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Thelma; two dear children, David Satterfield and wife Margaret of Richland and Karen Satterfield of Sunnyside; three special granddaughters, Rene' Martinez and husband Ramon of Palmer, Alaska, Monica Stanton and husband, Paul of Grandview, and Nanci Shrauner and fiance' Mike Rushman of Pasco; four darling great-grandchildren; his faithful companion, Mandi, his dog; and several nieces and nephews. His parents, four brothers, and five sisters, precede him in death.

           Viewing will be Sunday from noon until 6 p.m. and Monday, Tuesday &Wednesday from noon until 8:00 p.m. at the Sunnyside Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 4, 2005 at 10 a.m. at the Sunnyside Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in the Mabton Cemetery. The family requests that you honor Elmer by contributing to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, P.O. Scalf, Calvin Lester Scalf

        Calvin Lester Scalf, 74, 109 15th St. E., Wellman, died Monday, April 25, 2005, in his home of lung cancer. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Wellman Baptist Church, luncheon and family visitation will follow.

        Surviving, in addition to his wife, Nelle, are two daughters, Carrie Marshall of Lone Tree and Donna Logsdon of Marion; a son, Edward Scalf of Highridge, Mo.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and eight brothers and sisters.

        He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

        Calvin was born April 8, 1931, in Wellman, the son of Merton and Lydia (Miller) Scalf. He married Nelle J. Hayes on May 26, 1951, in Wellman. Calvin worked for Buckwalter Motors Inc. as the service manager for 40 years, until his retirement in 1993. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

        Calvin was a member of the Wellman Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Calvin loved his family and his church. Military rites by the Wellman American Legion.

        Memorials may be made to Washington County Hospice or to the Wellman Baptist Church.

Schafer, Wayne A. Schafer

Marietta Times, Marietta, Ohio, dated, November 24, 2005

    Schafer, Wayne A., 92, of Marietta died at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 22, 2005) at the Inn at Marietta following an illness.  He was born at Rinards Mills, Ohio, in Monroe County on Aug. 21, 1913, the son of the late Walter and Elizabeth Ullman Schafer.  He was a graduate of Ludlow High School with the class of 1933 and in 1934 was employed by the late George Wilderman. In 1935, he was employed by the late Dale Mitchell as a painter and in 1936, he founded Schafer's Sohio Station in Marietta and he continued to operate it until 1970. For 23 years, he and his family enjoyed their summer cottage at Senecaville Lake. He and his family were active members of the First Baptist Church in Marietta and were active in many community events and organizations.

    He was married to Mildred Ring, who preceded him in death. They were the parents of four children: two sons, Gary Schafer and his wife, Bonnie, and Don Schafer and his wife, Sandy, and two daughters, Mary Denton and her husband, Jim, and Carol Mercer and her husband, Bill. He is survived by 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and his brother, Delbert Schafer of Bloomfield.

    He later married Mary Fisher, who survives with her daughter, Susan Osborne, and her son, Bill Fisher. 

    In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence Schafer and Ralph Schafer; one sister, Audrey; and one half sister, Rina.

    Friends may call from 1 p.m. Friday at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home. The family will be present to meet friends from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday and at the First Baptist Church, Fourth and Putnam streets, from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday prior to the service. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church with interment in East Lawn Memorial Park. Pastor David Bilyeu and Pastor Richard Wilson will officiate.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Park Corporation in care of Brooks Harper, 615 10th St., Marietta, Ohio 45750, or the charity of the donor's choice.

 

Schaub, Spencer Logan Schaub

GLENMONT - Spencer Logan Schaub, 3 months, 5 days old, of 3479 County Road  25, Glenmont, died at 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2005, at the Joel Pomerene Hospital in Millersburg. He was born January 24, 2005, in Millersburg to Rebecca D. (Riley) and Richard B. Schaub.

He is survived by his parents; three sisters, Tina Schaub of Ashland, Theresa Schaub of Nankin and Kaitlyn  Riley of the home; five grandparents, Paul and Eileen Schaub of Greer, Robert and Nancy Riley of Las Vegas, Nevada., and Ellen Riley of Tiverton; three great-grandparents, Lottie Schaub of Greer, and Angela and Pasquale Pacitto of Roslindale, Massachusetts.; several aunts and uncles; two nephews; and one niece.

He was preceded in death by one great-grandmother, Julia Riley; two great-grandfathers, Harvey Cecil Riley and Henry Phillip Schaub; and one grandfather, Richard B. Schaub.

Calling hours will be today from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Fischer Funeral Home, Warsaw. A private family graveside service, with the Reverend Rae Anderson officiating, will follow in Tiverton Cemetery. Contributions may be made to First-Knox National Bank, 1 Public Square, Danville, Ohio 43014.

 

Schell, Bernice Illene Schell, nee Allphin

        Bernice Illene Schell, 73, of Xenia, died March 11, 2005 at 10:15 p.m. at the Flora Pavilion in Flora.

        Funeral services will be held March 15, 2005 at 1 p.m. at the Neal Funeral Home in Louisville.  Gene McCallister is officiating.  Interment will be at Oskaloosa Cemetery in rural Xenia.

        Visitation will be 6 - 8 p.m. March 14, 2004 at Neal Funeral Home in Louisville.

        Bernice Schell was born November 7, 1931 in Clay County to Manfred and Dorothy (Boston) Allphin.  She married Paul Courson Jr. in 1949.  She later married Norman Miles (Jack) Schell on November 11, 1969.

        She was a homemaker in her life.  She was also a member of the Meachan Baptist Church.

        Survivors include:  husband, Norman Miles (Jack) Schell of Xenia; sons, Ronald Courson of Louisville, Terry and wife Marsha Courson of Dieterich, Vernon Courson of Altus, OK; stepsons, Jack Schell of Coral Springs, Fl., Dennis Schell and wife Pam of Olive Branch, MS; daughter, Brenda Kay Durham of Varna; stepdaughters, Linda and husband Ronnie Stinson of Hazelwood, IN and Billye Young and husband Jerry of Flora; sisters, Hazel Garrett of Peoria and Beatrice Allphin of Alma.  Ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, and four step-great grandchildren also survive.

        She was preceded in death by her parents.

        JONESBORO -- Ivan G. Schell, 70, of Jonesboro, died Sunday, July 31, at his residence.

        Born in Wayne County, Ill., he lived in Rockford, Ill., and Senatobia, Miss., before moving to Jonesboro in 1989. He was a retired maintenance supervisor for Krueger Printing and Ringier Corp., and was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Jonesboro where he was a member of the Businessmen's Sunday School Class.

        He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Elizabeth Hilliard Schell; and by one brother.

        Survivors include his wife, Eula Sullinger Schell of the home; two daughters, Connie Schell Thuston of Springfield, Mo., and Melanie Schell Stone of Jonesboro; a son, Alan G. Schell of Pleasant View, Tenn.; two sisters, Janice Lowe of Cisne, Ill., and Betty Kasten of Rockford; four brothers, Charles Schell of Oregon, Ill., and Phillip Schell, Roy Schell and Jerry Schell, all of Cisne; eight grandchildren, Eric Thuston, Sean Thuston, Cody Veteto, Kady Veteto, Jennifer Marsh, Andrew Stone, Nicholas Stone, and Benjamin Stone; and one great-grandchild.

        Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Emerson Funeral Home's Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro, with the Rev. Curtis Shatley and the Rev. Stan Sullinger officiating. Burial will be Wednesday in Cisne Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Schindewolf, James G. Schindewolf

       James G. Schindewolf, "Jimmy,'' 94, went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 19, 2005.

        Born in Akron on Aug. 31, 1911, Jimmy was a graduate of South High School. He retired from the stores accounting section of Ohio Edison after 42 years of service to the company. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed bowling and traveling, was a member of the Patterson Park Over 50 Club, and a devoted member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, United Methodist.

        Preceded in death by his mother, Blanche* Schindewolf, and grandmother, Alice Smith, he is survived by his longtime friend, Robert E. Myers Jr., and numerous friends.

        Service will be held at 1 p.m. MONDAY at the Church of the Good Shepherd, United Methodist, 785 S. Main St., Akron, Ohio 44311, with Rev. Ricardo A. Jones officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call at the church one hour before service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd, United Methodist. Schindler, Jo Ann Schindler, nee Presto

        Jo Ann Schindler, 63 of Akron, passed away unexpectedly on June 14, 2005.

        Born July 26, 1941, in Alverda, Pa., she was a resident of Akron since 1959, and a devoted, loving and kind wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and aunt.

        She leaves behind her faithful husband of 44 years, Charlie Schindler; daughter, Lesa (Joe) Hartigan of Sarasota, Fla.; son, Chuck Schindler of Akron; and grandson, Joey Hartigan. Also surviving are sister, Shirley Peters; parents, Joseph and Ann Presto; and many nieces and nephews.

        Jo Ann dedicated her life to Jehovah God as one of one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1958 and has remained a faithful witness of Him and Jesus Christ until her death. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. Her family and friends look forward to the time when they will see her again.         Richard "Dick" J. Schuerman, 76, of 308 N. 4th Street, Woodsfield, Ohio, died on Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at the Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta, Ohio.

        He was born at Ft. Jennings, Ohio on July 12, 1928.

        He was a retired employee of the Ormet Corp. Hannibal, Ohio, and was a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield, Ohio. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 5303, Woodsfield, Ohio. Dick enjoyed woodworking as a hobby in his spare time.

        Surviving are two sons, Rick (Teresa) Schuerman and David (Janet) Schuerman, all of Woodsfield, Ohio; three grandchildren: Elizabeth, Jacob and Sydney.

       Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday with Rev. Fr. David Gaydosik officiating.

        Burial will follow in St. Sylvester Catholic Cemetery, Woodsfield, Ohio with full military graveside services by the Belmont Veterans Council of the V.F.W.

        Wendell Ray Sears, 74, of Bowling Green died at 9:45 a.m. April 11, 2005, in Goodlettsville, Tenn.

        The Christian County native was a retired sales supervisor for General Motors Acceptance Corp., a member of Loyal Order of Moose and Modern Woodmen of America and served in the Army in Korea. He was a son of the late Lester F. Sears and Ruth Keen Sears and the husband of the late Mary Christine Miller Sears. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Woodard; and a brother, A.C. Sears.

        Funeral will be at 11 am. Saturday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Lovers Lane chapel, with burial in Bowling Green. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

        Survivors include two sons, Todd Sears and his wife, Susan, of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Danny Elmore and his wife, Bonita Jo, of Brownsville; four grandchildren, David Woodard of Chalybeate, Khristy Hancock of Lafayette, Michael Elmore of Morgantown and Kari Freeman of Hendersonville; and seven great-grandchildren.

        BOWLING  GREEN - Wendell Ray Sears, 74, Bowling Green, died at 9:45 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2005, of natural causes.

        Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the J.C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel, Bowling Green. Burial will be in Bowling Green. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

        Nancy Dean Shaver, 82, of Shadyside, died Wednesday January 26, 2005 at her home.

        She was born November 8, 1922 in Bridgeport, Ohio a daughter of the late William T. and Agnes Marty Nixon.

        Nancy was a homemaker and a member of the Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church in Shadyside. She was involved with the Twig organizations of the former Bellaire City Hospital for over 60 years. She was very active in girl scouting for many years and received the Thanks Badge, the highest award for an adult in girl scouting. Nancy also received the Family Life Award from The Ohio State University for her work with low income families for twelve years.

        In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert John Shaver on February 24, 1996.

        Nancy is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

        There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2005 at the Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church with Revs. Donald Perks and Thomas L. Jones officiating.

Margaret R. Sheets, 84, of Marengo died early Tuesday morning, May  3, 2005, at Grady Memorial Hospital. She was born March 14, 1921, in Franklin County to John M. and Margaret Ann (Ferrell) Fisher.

She is survived by a daughter, Patti (John) Lanum, and sons, Raymond (Dorothy) Sheets and Roger (Linda) Sheets, all of Marengo; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard (Ruth) Fisher of Marengo; and a sister, Mary Ann Pierce of Punta Gorda, Florida.

In addition to her parents,  she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Blaine M. Sheets, in  1996; grandson, Craig Lanum; and brothers, Arthur, John, Herbert and  Richard.

        Born Dec. 19, 1929, in Redkey, to Oscar and Jane Sherley, he graduated from Redkey High School and attended Ball State University.

        He married Lee Mayo on June 26, 1972.

        A U.S. Navy veteran, he was an iron worker for 40 years at United Ironworker's Local No. 22 of Indianapolis.

        Memberships include Trinity United Methodist Church, Elks Club and American Legion Post No. 70, all of Shelbyville.

        Survivors include his wife Leo [sic--Lee]; two daughters, Anita Yukes, Indianapolis, and Robin Waits, Martinsville; two stepdaughters, Denise Miner, South Carolina, and Deborah Moore, Pennsylvania; a brother, Larry Sherley, Dunkirk; a sister, Beverley Hatsell, Redkey; six grandchildren and six stepgrandchildren.

        Services are Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Shelbyville with the Rev. Corlis Dees officiating. Burial will be in Milford Cemetery.

Shockling ,  Donald G. , age 71, of Caldwell, died Saturday, December 24, 2005, at Good Samaritan Medical Center, Cambridge.  He was born June 30, 1934, in Noble County, son of the late George and Hannah Hupp Shockling.  He was a 1952 graduate of Caldwell High School, and a U. S. Army veteran, having served in Germany.  He retired from Ohio Power at Beverly, where he was a supervisor and operator, and was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church, Caldwell.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Vernon F. ''Pug'' Shockling in 1997; and one grandson, Derrick Appold, in 1991.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Shockling, whom he married June 20, 1959; his children, Albert P. (Ruby ) Shockling of Sharon, Barbara M. Clark of Caldwell, Joseph D. Shockling of Carrollton, Allen E. (Tamara) Shockling of Caldwell, Lamont E. Shockling of Caldwell, Bonnie J. (Donnie) Appold of Belle Valley, and Jeffrey J. WESTERVILLE - Vera Lucy Shorts, 80, died peacefully Sunday, July 3, 2005, at  Manor Care in Westerville. She was a graduate of Case Western Reserve in Cleveland; and taught in the Danville Schools for many years, tutored and  mentored many area residents. Vera was a member of the Danville United Methodist Church. She was worthy matron of the Danville Chapter of the Order  of Eastern Star, and an active member of the order for many years. 

She is survived by three children, Carol of Smyrna, Delaware., Mark of Mount Vernon  and Jonathan of Powell; four grandchildren, Brandon 29, Angie 20, Madison 12, and Ryan 8.

Vera was an only child, preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Edith; and her former husband of 27 years, Leland.

A memorial  service celebrating her life will be Tuesday, July 12, at 10 a.m. at the Danville United Methodist Church, 408 Market Street, Danville. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:15 at the church. Burial will be private. The family would like to thank the staffs of Manor Care, Mount Carmel /Saint Anne's Hospital and Heartland Hospice.     Henry was born on Jan. 28, 1934, in Hendrysburg, Ohio. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Rose Hill Ruritans and Rose Hill Community Church.
    He is survived by three children, Artie Showalter, of Rose Hill; Jeanne Boyle, of Owensboro, Ky., and Robin Morgan of Zanesville, Ohio; two brothers, Harry and Robert, of Ohio; and four grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Helen Showalter, of Salesville, Ohio; and his wife, Bonnie Showalter, formerly of Rose Hill.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Enos Singer on May 24, 1986; and a son, Enos Leroy Singer, on Dec. 17, 1999.

        Surviving are one daughter, Marilyn (and Lawrence) Ischer of Monmouth; one sister, Bernita Smith of Carthage; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

        She operated a store and the post office in Bentley.

        She worked for Harold Smith Grocery Store and Roseville Variety Store for many years.

        She was of the Rebecah Lodge in Roseville.

        She was a member of Roseville Christian Church in Roseville.

        Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Corman Memorial Home. The Rev. Tim Randall will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the memorial home. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Harmony Cemetery in Bowen. The Rev. Tom Mehaffy will officiate.

        Ray was born Oct. 11, 1938 in Mingo Junction, Ohio, the son of the late Harry and Annie Pennock Smith.  Her was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Smith.

        Ray was a retired laborer and handyman.

        Surviving are his wife, Melanie Hartman Smith, whom he married June 8, 1990; two sons, Donnie Smith of Steubenville and Luke Hartman of Taper City, N.C.; three daughters, Debbie of Mingo Junction, Cindy of Steubenville and Misty Long of Steubenville; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gene Smith of Steubenville and John Smith of Miami, Fla.; and three sisters, Joyce Blanchard and Carol Smith of Steubenville and Cherry Bennett of Richmond, Ohio.

        Visitation for Raymond will be Saturday at the McClave-Chandler-Mills Inc. Funeral Home, 611 N. 4th St., Steubenville from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Toni Hubbard officiating.  Burial will be private.

        Mrs. Snyder was a homemaker and a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.

        Born May 10, 1911, Mrs. Snyder was the daughter of Harry and Ada Burton Bell. She married Elmer L. Snyder Sept. 10, 1930.

        Survivors include a daughter, Patricia (husband Dale) Meier of Columbus; grandchildren, Terri (husband Jim) Olmstead and Traci (husband Joe) Sitterding, both of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Julia Sitterding; and sisters, Vi Wayman of Nashville and Madeline Tryon of Indianapolis.

        She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 9, 1995, and a brother, Delmar Bell.

        The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Haugen officiating. Calling will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

NEW MATAMORAS - Earl Joe Spears, 72, of 906 Granview Avenue, New Matamoras, died at 1 a.m. Friday (Nov. 25, 2005) at The Arbors of Marietta. He was born March 11, 1933, in Maryville, Tenn., a son of Henry and Mattie Irvin Spears.  He graduated in 1952 from Friendsville High School in Friendsville, Tenn. He was a member of American Legion Post 378 in New Matamoras, Matamoras Lodge 374 F&AM, Matamoras Emergency Squad, the Steelworkers Union, and he was a former fire chief of the Matamoras Volunteer Fire Department. He was a cold mill operator for Ormet Corp., Hannibal, Ohio.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby L. Spears of New Matamoras; two sons, Darell Spears of New Matamoras and Bruce Spears of Marysville, Ohio; two daughters, Kathy Neill and her husband, Steven, of Dublin, Ohio, and Brenda Neary and her husband, John, of Pataskala, Ohio; grandchildren, Rachel Spears Murphy, Karrie Neill, Paul Spears, Amanda Spears, Rhyan Spears, Jordan Neill, Jennifer Spears, Mitchel Spears, Cassandra Neary, Johnny Neary, Tammy Neill and Brian Neill; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank Spears of Maryville, Tenn.; and one sister, Ruby Gooden of Lewisville, Tenn.

        LISBON -- Wilbur H. Staley, 78, of state Route 164, passed away at 12:40 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2005, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home following a brief illness.

        Mr. Staley was born Dec. 13, 1926, in Irondale, a son of the late Samuel and Sylvania (Virginia) Staley and had moved to Lisbon four years ago, coming from the Chester and Calcutta areas.

        He was a 1945 graduate of Chester High School and a 1951 graduate of West Liberty State College.

        He was a devoted teacher in the Beaver Local School District for 24 years, retiring in 1993.  Mr. Staley also shared his love of athletics by coaching track, football and basketball.

        Wilbur was a member of the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church and a former member and elder of the Long's Run Presbyterian Church.

        He was also a member of the Calcutta Lions Club and an avid bowler in the Tri-States Lanes Bowling League.

        Mr. Staley also served his country at the end of World War II by serving in the last regiment of the horse cavalry at Fort Riley, Kan. and as an M.P. in Casablanca,

Africa.

        He is survived and will be missed by his wife of 54 years, Patricia (Poe) Staley, whom he married Aug. 14, 1950; daughters and sons-in-law, Jorja A. and Lin Fobes of New Castle, Pa. and Valerie K. and Jeff Hochmann of Lisbon; daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Stanley [sic--Staley] of Calcutta; granddaughters, Alicia, Melanie and Cheryl Staley; grandson, Aaron Hochmann; great-granddaughter, Emma Staley; and many nieces and nephews.

        Mr. Staley was preceded in death by a son, Stephen A. Staley; sisters, Helen Shenton and Elaine Coen; and brothers, Harold, Dewaine and Virgil Staley.

        Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Eeells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark R. Wilds officiating.

        Burial will follow in Long's Run Cemetery.

        Alice Louise Wright Stanley, 91 of Woodsfield, died Oct. 19, 2005, at Monroe County Care Center.  She was born Nov. 7, 1913, in Moundsville, WV, a daughter of the late James L. Wright & Lucy F. Staggers Wright.

        She was a member of the Woodsfield First United Methodist Church,  the Friendly Sunday School class, member and former President of Woodsfield United Methodist Women, former 40 years member of the church choir, and was a seven year Lay Delegate from the Woodsfield United Methodist Church to the Annual Conference at Lakeside.

        She worked 14 years as secretary at the Woodsfield Police Department and because of a home accident retired at age 90.

        Surviving are a daughter, Gloria Potts, of Albuquerque NM; son, Roger (Donna) Stanley, of Henderson, NC; sister, Edna (Olie) Olson. of San Angelo, TX; two sisters-in-law, CeCe Weinmannin, of Phoenix, AZ, Lucille Wright Neff, of New Martinsville, WV; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

        In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C.R. (Happy) Stanley, in 1978, whom she married June 23, 1934; three sisters, Florence Wright, Goldie Haslam, Thelma Litman; brother, Carl Wright; a great-grand-daughter, Brittany Purser; son-in-law, Clair Potts.

Starr, Herbert Lynn, 58 of Barnesville died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005 at his home. He was born Dec. 23, 1947 in Quaker City, Ohio, a son of Edward and Georgianna Brownfield Starr.  Herbert was retired from the US Postal service working in the Barnesville Post Office for 30 years, he served his country during the Vietnam War in the US Army, and received a purple heart and bronze star for his service. He was a past All American Commander for District 5, and served as commander and quartermaster with the Barnesville VFW, he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Barnesville Elks Lodge, and the Barnesville Eagles.

 He was preceded in death by a daughter, Amy G. Starr, and a twin brother, Hubert Starr.

        Mrs. Steele was a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother.

        She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Steele, whom she married Dec. 31 1941.

        Survivors include two sons, Jon (Connie) Steele of Salem, Ohio and Robert D. (Susan) Steele of Massillon, Ohio; a brother, Robert Utterback of Winona, Ohio; three grandchildren, Courtney (Steele) Wright, Grant A. Steele and James J. Carey; and three great-grandchildren.

He was also a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of the American Legion Post 415, Summerfield.

He was born Aug. 7, 1969, in Marietta to Franklin Brooks and Donna Stull.  In 1981, he was adopted by his grandmother, Shirley Stull of New Matamoras, who survives with two sisters, Donna Hartshorn of New Matamoras and Valerie Townsend of Ripley, W.Va.; and one brother, Delbert Stull (Debbie) of Marietta. He is also survived by his aunt, Karen Rumbold of the home; his cat, "Precious," of the home; two aunts, Ruby Casto and Eloise Dennis; one uncle, Gary West; and a special friend, Sue Stull and her family.

He was preceded in death by his father; his stepfather, Warren Stull; his grandfather, Jessie Stull; and his sister, Vickie Haynie.

           Swallie, John William Kirk, age 79, of North Canton passed away in the home on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 following an extended illness. Born in Barnesville, OH on October 8, 1926 to the late George and Mae Swallie.  He went to serve his country proudly in the United States Army during WWII and worked in communications for East Ohio Gas Co. where he retired from in 1989 after 33 years of faithful service.  He was a member of Hartville Church of Christ and previously with 38th St. Church of Christ. John was a wonderful family man, he liked to travel, enjoyed the local football games but nothing meant more to him than the love he shared as a husband, father, grandpa, brother, and friend.

           In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Larry Swallie.

Survivors include his wife, Martha L. Swallie of the home and to whom he was married 54 years, three daughters; Margie (Jim) Goulet, Kim (Randy) Mulheim, and Cam (Mike) Hair all of North Canton, son, Jay (Theresa) Swallie of Hartville, five grandchildren, Justin, John, Brittany, Jay Dee, and Zach, two brothers, Ronald (Betty) Swallie and Jim (Shirley) Swallie, sister, Virginia (Jim) Kearns. There are many nieces and nephews also surviving.

        Bernard Walter Swartzlander, son of George and Goldie Hazlett Swartzlander, was born February 4, 1940, in Oil City, Pennsylvania. He departed this life Tuesday, February 22, 2005, in St. John's Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of sixty-five years, and eighteen days.

        On July 3, 1980, in Miami, Oklahoma, he was united in marriage to Nanci Jean Dinwiddie, and together they shared the last twenty-four years.

        He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Dorthy Kelly, Leonna Skriven, and Alberta Stalmon.

        Bernard is survived by his wife, Nanci Jean, of the home; two daughters, Stacye Kerns, and her husband, Sam, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Tammy Karlo, and her husband, Kevin, of Palm Springs, Florida; three sons, Scott Swartzlander, Jason Dinwiddie, and Philip Swartzlander, and his wife, Trish, all of Lebanon, Missouri; five grandchildren; three brothers, Ron Swartzlander, of Lebanon, Missouri, Clayton Swartzlander, of Orlando, Florida, and Zeke Swartzlander, of Youngstown, Ohio; three sisters, Phyllis Swartzlander, and Mary Lepley, both of the State of Florida, and June Wilit, of Greenville, Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

        He was born and raised in Pennsylvania, and continued to make his home in Pennsylvania for several years.

        Throughout his life he worked at various different occupations including plumbing, as a field hand in the orange groves, office cleaning and window washing, on the railroad, and as a truck driver. Since marrying Nanci Jean, they had made their home in the Lebanon, Missouri area.

        In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors where he liked to fish and hunt. He also enjoyed traveling and had an appreciation for old cars. He loved his animals and especially his pet dogs. His family was very important to him and he greatly loved being a grandfather.

        Bernard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends.

        Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2005, in the Eurekda [sic--Eureka] Cemetery near Conway, Missouri. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 7 - 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.

        She was born Dec. 17, 1942, in Steubenville,* the daughter of the late Charles and Mattie (Wilson) Thrasher.

        Margaret was a liner for the Homer Laughlin China Co.

        Survivors include five daughters, Glenna Taylor of Wellsville, with whom she resided, Tammy McGee of Irondale, Mattie Taylor of Lancaster, Pa., Misty Taylor of Wellsville and Donnelle Taylor of East Liverpool; two sons, Glenn Taylor of East Palestine and Brian Taylor of New Paris, Ind.; two sisters, Doris Vantilburg of East Liverpool and Sharon Gilbert of Wellsville; 16 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

        Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Sugar Grove Cemetery, with Pastor Dirk Hall officiating.

        He was born May 28, 1923, in Van Wert County, the son of Rollo and Gracie (Miller) Taylor. On Dec. 24, 1943, he married Deloris E. Myers. She died July 9, 1972. On Oct. 14, 1972, he married June L. Sutton, who survives in Paulding.

        Other survivors include his daughter, Jeanne (Brent) Kinkle of Van Wert; seven sons, Randall (Patty) Taylor of Bolivar, Richard (Sue) Moore of Payne, Mitchel Moore of Los Angeles, Calif., Dennis (Faith) Moore of Noblesville, Ind., Chet (Pam) Moore and Lynn (Karen) Moore, both of Paulding, and Glenn (Amber) Neal of Peoria, Ill.; a brother, VonDale (Marjorie) Taylor of Van Wert; three sisters, Lillian (Carl) Saam of Van Wert, Louise (Wilbur) Williamson and Betty Routt, both of Cavett; 18 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.

        He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mabel Lee and Ethel Tyas, seven brothers, Bill, Clyde, Ben, Jim, Ray, Eugene and Welcome, and two great-grandchildren.

        Mr. Taylor was employed as a heavy equipment operator by Union Quarries, Scott. He retired in 1970 after 25 years. He formerly was employed at the Scott License Branch, Borden Cheese in Van Wert, Paulding County Highway Department and was the owner-operator of Taylor Quality Egg Store. He was a self-employed electrical contractor. He was a former Union Township trustee. He was a member of the Scott Council, served as a Scott marshal, was a member of the Scott Fire Department, the Scott Lions Club, Scott United Methodist Church and Van Wert County Republican Committee. He was a former Mason and a member of Flat Rock Masonic Lodge 580 in Payne. He was a member of First Christian Church, Paulding.

        Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding. The Rev. Paul Biery will officiate. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ohio City.

        Visitation will be 4:30-9 p.m. with a Masonic service at 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.

       Donations may be made to First Christian Church Building Fund.

He was born at Barnesville, Ohio, on Sept. 21, 1964, a son of William and Glenda Ridgeway Thomas, who survive of Woodsfield.  He was a 1982 graduate of River High School, Hannibal, Ohio; a farmer at the Willenda Farm in Woodsfield, Ohio; a member of the Laings Church of Christ, Laings, Ohio; and was a Green Township Trustee in Monroe County, Ohio. Jeff was also an avid fisherman, hunter, and enjoyed bowling.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Kelly McConnell Thomas, whom he married on Sept. 14, 1995; one son, Hunter Thomas of the home; one daughter, Alexis Thomas of the home; one brother, Billy Thomas of Woodsfield and his fiancée, Vickie Williams; two sisters, Teresa (John) Simkins of Springfield, Ohio, and Gail (Steve) Zwick of Lower Salem, Ohio; two nieces; three nephews; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lynnette Starr Thomas on Aug. 16, 1994.

Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday with Craig Matheny officiating. He is survived by his wife, Paula J. Thomas of New Matamoras; they were married June 3, 1993. He is also survived by two sons, Jasper Joe Thomas of New Matamoras, and Abe Thomas of Buxton, N.C.; one daughter, Mary Krawchuck of Buxton, N.C.; his parents, of Cameron, W.Va.; three brothers, Doug Thomas and his wife, Maria, of California, Mike Thomas of Florida, and Jeff Thomas of South Carolina; two sisters, Robin Evans and her husband, Terry, of Moundsville, W.Va., and Marilyn Jenkins and her husband, Chuck, of Moundsville, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Kimberly, Miranda, Violet, and Jermiah Krawchuck, and Bane and Isaiah Thomas; and a very special mother-in-law, Patty McCoy of New Matamoras.

Oden L. Thompson, 72

        Oden Lee "Son" Thompson, 72, of Brandywine surrounded by his loving family, peacefully slipped into the arms of our Lord and Savior on Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at his home. This ended his courageous three-year battle with leukemia.

        Mr. Thompson, or "Odie" to his friends and loved ones, was born March 14, 1933, on Tract Mountain, W.Va., and was the youngest of 16 children born to the late George and Bessie Thompson.

        On July 23, 2005, he and his wife, Donna Jean Stalder Thompson, who survives, celebrated 50 years of marriage. Mr. Thompson is survived by five children and their spouses: Johnny Lee Thompson and wife, Debbie, of Franklin, W.Va.; Kathy Thompson Smith and husband, Steve, of Grafton, W.Va.; Michael Douglas Thompson and wife, Lura, of Cresaptown, Md.; Christopher Todd Thompson and wife, Stacy, of Swoope, Va.; and David Lee Thompson and wife, Traci, of Charleston, W.Va. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Heather Thompson, AJ Ezersky, Jason Thompson, Aaron Smith, Cassie Thompson, Seth Thompson, Campbell Thompson, Hannah Payne and Isaiah David Oden Thompson; four sisters, Tressie Bridges and Donna Cassidy of Bridgewater, Va.; Jessie Snyder of Harman, W.Va.; and Viola Hevener of Harrisonburg, Va.; two brothers, Clarence "Pum" Thompson and Paul "Chap" Thompson, both of Franklin, W.Va.

        He was preceded in death by six brothers: Raymond "Pete" Thompson, Denver "Den" Thompson, Ona Thompson, George Thompson, Ray "Coy" Thompson and Arlie "Boss" Thompson; and three sisters: Reda Thompson Gauding, Nettie Thompson Alt, and Anna "Granny" Thompson Hedrick.

        Mr. Thompson was by trade an ironworker belonging to Union Ironworker Local 568 in Cumberland, Md. He belonged to Christ Central Church of Upper Tract, W.Va. His passion was farming and raising turkeys and cattle. He won the following awards: Conservation Farmer of the Year, Turkey Grower of the Year and 2000 Rocco Friend of the Environment. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting whitetail deer, elk and bear. When not working his farm, he also enjoyed square dancing and online poker.

         Family received friends at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be conducted today at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home with Rev. Jeffrey Thompson and Rev. Stanley Kile officiating.

        The family wishes to acknowledge with heartfelt gratitude the special loving care that was provided by Jean Clark, niece; Colleen Plaugher of Mountain Hospice; and Julie Shull and Sheila Miller of Rockingham Memorial Hospital (RMH) Cancer Center.

Helen was born August 28, 1914 near Malaga, Ohio, the daughter of the late Leonard and Anna Hughes Miller. She was a member of Saint Adalbert's Catholic Church, Dillonvale and Island Senior Citizens.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by two sons, John and James Thonen; four brothers, Arthur, Paul,
Henry, and Eugene Miller; and her sister, Eloise Miller Archer.

Helen was a loving wife of 66 years to her husband, Elmer Thonen; a beloved mother to her daughters, Helen Jean (Paul) Harbourt of Mount Pleasant and Susan (Joseph) Forrester of Wheeling, West Virginia.; she is also survived by her daughter- in-law Marcella Thonen of Fort Worth, Texas; her six grandchildren, Mike (Shelly) Harbourt of Mount Pleasant, Tanya (Ray) DiCapito of Warren, Ohio, Lorraine (Jeff) Shea of Grapevine, Texas, Joel Thonen of Dallas, Texas, Staci Forrester and Matthew Forrester, both of Wheeling; her six great-grandchildren, Miranda and Taylor Harbourt, Amber and Anthony DiCapito, and Brennan and Madeline Shea.

        TILLER,  TRACY  BROGDON -  Born December 5, 1962 in Houston, Texas, passed away in Dallas, May 16, 2005. Tracy was currently employed by the U. S. Postal Service. She was a 1985 graduate of Texas A & M University and an enthusiastic fan of Texas Ranger baseball. Tracy was also an organ donor.

        She is preceded in death by two sisters, Deborah Sanchez& Tina Brogdon. Tracy is survived by her husband, Bart Tiller of Midlothian; parents, George & Jean Brogdon of Midway, TX; sister, Georgia Brogdon of Houston, TX; niece, Ashley Sanchez; and many loving friends.

        Sharon R. Titus, age 65, of Bloomington, died Tuesday afternoon at Bloomington Hospital. Born November 24, 1939, in Linton, Indiana, she was the daughter of Frank Cox and Ruth (Barnard) Cox. She was a nurse for Dr. Mehta's office for 28 years. She loved to attend activities with her grandsons. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and attended Richland Church of Christ.

        Survivors include her mother of Linton, Indiana; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melinda and Eric Martin of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Melanie and Jeremy Adams of Bloomington; one son, Mark McIntyre of Bloomington; two brothers, Frank Cox and Charles Cox, both of Linton, Indiana; and three grandsons, Justin, Cameron and Tyler Adams, all of Bloomington. She was also survived by several nieces and nephews and many friends and family members. She was preceded in death by her father; one son, Jarrell McIntyre, Jr.; and one brother, John Cox.

        The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton, Indiana. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Linton. Friends may call at Day Funeral Home on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and on Saturday 1 hour prior to service in Linton.

She was born June 1, 1968, in New Martinsville, W.Va., a daughter of Joe and Janet Pittman Ritchie of Sardis.  She was a 1986 graduate of River High School, Hannibal, and a 1988 graduate of Rio Grande College. She had served as a registered nurse at Marietta Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Church of God of St. Clairsville.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, David J. Todd, whom she married June 1, 1997; one sister, Julia Kimble, Toronto; seven nieces, seven nephews and two great-nieces.

One nephew is deceased.

He was born May 18, 1936, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, the son of Edith Martie Trosch of Woodsfield and the late Frederick W. Trosch. He was a farmer and construction laborer, attended Living Water Baptist Church in Sardis, a 25-year township trustee for Lee and Jackson townships, and a 40-year member of Construction Union Local 1149.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Carolyn Grimes Trosch; two daughters, Becky (Tom) Langsdorf of Sardis and Beth (Danny) Riggs of New Matamoras; a son, Mark (Jeanine) Trosch of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; a brother, Mervin (Shirley) Trosch of Sardis; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Grisell Funeral Home, 37234 Mound Street, Sardis, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Reverend Frank Conley and Pastor Darrell Mayfield officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olive Cemetery, Sardis.

        TALLMADGE---Melba M. Tuel, 92, passed away Feb. 20, 2005.

        Mrs. Tuel was born in Monroe County, Ohio, and lived most of her life in the Akron and Tallmadge areas, and retired as a cafeteria worker with the Tallmadge City Schools.  She was a member of The Chapel.

        Mrs. Tuel was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, a sister, Thelma Anderson; brothers, Roy, Wilbur, Eugene, Francis, and Lloyd Weber.  She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, John and LaVerne Tuel of Brimfield, Richard and Faye Tuel of Missouri; sisters, Delores Strickland, Vera Van Meter, Eleanor Farkas, and Eileen Cline; brother, Dennis Weber; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Passed away Monday, April 25, 2005 at home. Louise, the 6th of 7 children of George and Nora (Simpson) Cotton, was born March 12, 1935 in Louisville, KY. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the DAR, and an honorary member of the Kalamazoo Kennel Club. Louise was a devoted grandmother who loved attending the activities of her grandchildren. She enjoyed Bridge and played over 48 years with friends Diane Sharp, Marilyn Kreg, Phyllis Gunderson, and Doris Hamilton. In March of this year she and her husband, Roger, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Hawaii. Surviving in addition to her husband are one daughter, Nancy Louise (John) Cakmakci of Schoolcraft; one son, Roger A. (Julie) Van of Vicksburg, 5 grandchildren: Jonathan Lee Cakmakci, Nicholas Tevfik Cakmakci, Travis Alan Van, Jessica Lynette Van and Hunter Tyler Van; one sister, Evelyn Whelchel, and one brother, Darwin Cotton. The family will meet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. which will be followed by funeral services at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home, Pastor Louis Grother officiating. Margaret I. Van Fossen, 79, of Hill Street, Whipple, died at 7:43 a.m. Thursday , August 25, 2005 at her home. She was born October 9, 1925, at Stafford, a daughter of the late Clarence and Amy Thompson Leasure. She had spent most of her life in the Whipple area and was a graduate of Stafford High School. She was later employed at the Whipple Service Center in Whipple. She enjoyed people and also enjoyed going places. She was a member of Souls Harbor Church and was a member of the Seed
Line Ministry, the choir, and the Senior Saints.

On February. 16, 1946, she was married to Delbert N. Van Fossen, who preceded her in death on
February 19, 1992.

She is survived by two daughters, Eileen Haas and her husband, Jack, and Carol Brown and her husband, Jeff, all of Whipple; five grandchildren, Jane Schwab, Missy Davis and her husband, Mike, Cindy Schmidt and her fiance, Matt Erb, Eric Brown and Greg Brown; and one great-grandchild, Camryn Schwab. She loved her children and her grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Toby Leasure of Akron; one sister, Betty Davis of Cambridge; several nephews and nieces; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Everett, Arthur and Cleon Leasure.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Souls Harbor Church with Pastor Chuck Murphy and Pastor Robert Hughes officiating. Interment will be in Salem Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home from 2 p.m. today until noon Saturday and at the church for one hour prior to the service. VanDyne,David A. , 60 of Powhatan Point, Ohio died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005 in Reynolds Memorial Hospital. He was born February 18, 1945 in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late Leland "Ikey" and Rose Marling VanDyne.  He was an employee at Ohio Valley Coal Co., a U.S. Navy Veteran, a member of the Powhatan VFW Post 5565 and Powhatan American Legion Post 228.

Surviving is his wife, Gloria J. Thomas VanDyne, one daughter, Lori VanDyne and Brett Kemp of Powhatan Point; two grandchildren, Kayla VanDyne and Zachary Kemp; mother-in-law, Gloria Hartung, and father-in-law Harley "Hoss" Thomas.

        HAMMONDSVILLE,  Ohio -- Margaret L. "George" Brewer VanDyne, 47, of Clarks Mill Road died at 12:32 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2005, at her home following a lengthy illness.

        Born in East Liverpool Oct. 21, 1957, daughter of Don T. and Emma Sabol Brewer of Fife Coal Road, Wellsville, she was a 1976 graduate of Wellsville High School.

        Employed by the former Extended Care Center and then the Calcutta Health Care Center, she later worked at Southern Local School in the cafeteria and in housekeeping.

        A member of the Wellsville American Legion Auxiliary, she was an avid Harley Davidson rider and pool player in the American Pool Association.

        Her husband, Jack VanDyne, whom she married Oct. 20, 1990, survives at home.

        In addition to her husband and parents, a daughter, Vikki Jean VanDyne survives at home.  A sister, Mrs. Darrell (Vickie) Smith of Wellsville; and two brothers, Don A. Brewer of Salineville and Larry L. Brewer, and his wife, Judy, of Wellsville, also survive.

        A brother, William F. Brewer, preceded her in death.

Richard was born August 11, 1937 in Millfield, Ohio, a son of the late Tony Andrew and Cora Arizona Monroe Vargo. He was retired from Nu-Cor Automotive in Columbus, Ohio, a Protestant by faith, and an Army Veteran of the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Steven Michael Vargo, and a sister, Madelyn Haslan.

Surviving is his wife of 47 years, Sharon A.         Jerry Len Vawter, 71, of Fredericksburg died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005, in Spotsylvania County from injuries he received in an automobile accident. He was a former resident of Shelbyville, Ind., and moved to Fredericksburg in 1981.

        He was a member of the American Legion for 28 years and was employed by Walter Grinders.

        Jerry was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Spotsylvania for the past 21 years. He was a member of the vestry and had served as Junior Warden and Senior Warden. He was a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed helping with vacation Bible school. He was a member of the parish Finance Commission and had served as vice president and president of the Region 1 Council of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia. Jerry also served on numerous Cursillo teams in the Diocese of Virginia, had been rector of a Cursillo weekend and lay director of Cursillo.

        He was a fan of the U.Va. and Virginia Tech football teams. He enjoyed following NASCAR racing and surf fishing. Jerry was a member of the U.S. Trotting Association and had owned and trained harness horses.

        He is survived by his wife, Kristine "Kris" Vawter; a son, Scott Vawter and his wife, Tammy, of Rushville, Ind.; a daughter, Melissa Vawter of Shelbyville; one granddaughter, Chelsie Parsons and her husband, Brad, of Shelbyville; a great-grandson, Bradley Michael Parsons; and his father-in-law, Nick Kelleman of the home.

        A funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at Christ Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey A. Packard officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

LOWER SALEM - Orpha Alfert "O.A." Vess, 94, of Lower Salem, died Thursday evening ,September 8, 2005 at his home. He was born January 31, 1911, in Graysville, and was the son of the late Lewis Oathes Vess and Martha "Mattie" McGilton Vess. He was one of seven children and spent most of his young life in the Sycamore Valley area of Monroe County. After serving in the military in World War II, he worked in the oil fields in southeast Ohio and Oklahoma. He was the owner of Vess Drilling and co-owner of Pine Knob Oil. On February 24, 1933, he married Myrtle Agatha Yockey, who preceded him in death on November 1, 1986. Together they had a son, George C. Vess of Lower Salem, who continues with Vess Drilling and Pine Knob Oil today. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed his life on the farm and his family.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Emery and Dewey; two sisters, Sylvia and Ethel; his daughter-in-law, Donna Vess; and Jeff Cisler.

He is survived by his immediate family of sisters, Inez Vess Yockey and Dora Vess Piett; his wife, Mildred Okey Vess; his son, George (Ginny) Vess; his grandchildren, Randy (Peggy) Vess, Ron (Genie) Vess, and Linda Vess Cisler; and great-grandchildren, Eric (Kelly) Vess, Matt Vess, Victor (Emily) Vess, Cory Cisler, Colt Cisler, Cody Cisler, Cavin Cisler, and Connor Cisler.

She was raised in Palastine, moving to Chicago in 1954. She relocated to Joliet in 1964 and has resided in Crest Hill since 1974.

        Beloved mother of Candi (Joel) Thuringer of Crest Hill, Johanna Vicich of Crest Hill, Loretta (Randy) Brown of Gilbert, AZ, Edwin (Cathy) Vicich Jr. of Crest Hill. Grandmother of Erica and Robin Thuringer, Nicole and Edwin H. Vicich III. Sister of Charles (Ruth) DeVore of White Bear Lake, MN, Robert (Esther) DeVore of Niceville, FL, and Elizabeth (Wilford) [sic–WILFRED] Hanley of Carpentersville, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews, also survive.

        Born July 28, 1982 in Marion to James Joseph and Mary Lee Voland, he worked at Heartland Aluminum in Warren and was a member of the Hillcrest Church of the Nazarene in Warren.
        In addition to his parents, he is survived by brothers Jason and Jeremy Voland and Zeb Whinery, all of Warren; grandmother Evelyn Bailey of Warren and several uncles, an aunt and a niece.
        His grandfather, Roy A. Bailey, preceded him in death.

        Lenore R. Vornehm.  She was the only child of Anna and Walter Retherford. Lenore  was born November 18, 1915 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. She passed away Thursday, December 15, 2005 at the Masonic Home in Franklin, Indiana.
        Her family moved to rural Connersville when Lenore was a young child. She was a registered nurse having graduated from Indianapolis General Hospital of Nursing (now Wishard Hospital). During her career in nursing she worked as a public health nurse, industrial nurse and hospital nurse.
        She married R. Glenn Vornehm. Together they raised three children: Richard (Marita), David (Nancy) and Carolyn Brehob Buzash.
        After Glenn's death, she moved to Bradenton, Florida and later married Paul Voland.
        She enjoyed playing golf and bridge. She was an active participant in her church and the Friends of the Library organization in Bradenton. She also taught adult literacy.
       She was preceded in death by Glenn Vornehm, Paul Voland, her parents, and great-granddaughter, Haylee Brehob. Along with her children she is survived by grandchildren, Elizabeth Peters (Steve), Cynthia Vornehm, Sara Webb (Jon), Steven Brehob (Tina), Michael Brehob (Marie), Nicholas Vornehm (Lesa), Melissa Evard (Jeffry); great-grandchildren, Lyndsey, Christian and Adam Peters, Daniel Webb, Jacob and Isaac Brehob, and Rhys and Jamison Vornehm.
        She will be greatly missed. Rev. Cleon Wright will conduct a service at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17 at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, 1605 S. State Road 135. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

        Dutch was born January 13, 1924 in Okmulgee to Blake William and Olga (Hines) Wallace.  He married Mary Lavone Padgett on January 15, 1947 in Girard, Kansas. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he worked in the refinery at Stroud and then Okmulgee. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
        Survivors include his wife, Mary L "Donnye" Wallace; a daughter, Gina Fuller and husband Jaek;* a son, Bobby Wallace and wife Annette of Tulsa; a brother, Harry Wallace and wife Carolyn of Tulsa; three sisters, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
        A graveside service will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 18, 2005 at the Okmulgee Cemetery with Reverend Everett Lerch,.Jr. officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.  Arrangements by McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

        MOUNT  OLIVE - Albert Arthur Warner, 83, of Mount Olive died Monday, Aug. 8, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

        He was born Aug. 1, 1922, in Mount Olive, the son of Albert Leo and Amanda Barbara Weidler Warner. He married Ruth Iona Bostic in 1942 in Mount Olive.

        Mr. Warner graduated from Mount Olive High School in 1940. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He retired from Construction Workers Local 338 in Wood River. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mount Olive and the Mount Olive American Legion Yurkovich-Beck Post.

        Survivors: wife, Ruth; son, Terry (wife, Kathy) Warner of Portland, Ore.; two daughters, Donna (husband, James) Dingerson of Hollister, Mo., and Patricia Lueker of Mount Olive; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and brother, Robert Warner of Knoxville, Tenn.

        The Rev. Ernest E. Weaver, 85, of Grovespring, died Sunday afternoon, Sept. 25, 2005, at his home, near Grovespring.

        He was born Jan. 23, 1920, near Grovespring, to James Claude and Stella A. Buttram Weaver, who preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by his parents, five infant children and a brother, Daniel Weaver, and two infant siblings.

        On Aug. 9, 1947, he married Mary Louise Ballard.

        Besides being a milk and beef cattle farmer, he also ran a saw mill, worked at Independent Stave Co., Marshfield Steel Co., and owned his own trucking company for several years. He also was a Pentecostal minister and had pastored churches in Lebanon, Phillipsburg, and in Wright County for many years.

        Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the home; his eight children, Louise Washburn and her husband, Vic, of Salisbury; Everett Weaver and his wife, Lola, of Springfield; Shirley Ballard, of Lebanon; Dean Weaver and his wife, Chris, of Niangua; Kathy Angst and her husband, Doug, of Phillipsburg; Awana Weaver, of Lebanon; Ernest Greg Weaver and his wife, Bonnie, of Grovespring, and Clifford Weaver and his wife, Michelle, of Grovespring; 30 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clyde Weaver and his wife, Roberta, of Osceola and Verlin Weaver and his wife, Brenda, of Grovespring; also a number of nieces and nephews.

        Services for the Rev. Ernest E. Weaver were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon with the Rev. Bill Wilson and Bro. Tony Jennings officiating.

        Burial was in Little Vine Cemetery, near Grovespring, under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon.

    She was born in Jerusalem, Ohio, on Nov. 20, 1911, a daughter of the late Maywood Ira and Della Ina Shouse Pennell.
    She was a 1931 graduate of the former Lewisville High School, Lewisville; a homemaker; a member of the Trinity Church of Christ near Lewisville; the Lewisville Methodist Church; and was a member of the Farm Bureau. She formerly resided at the Inn of Marietta before going to the Arbors of Marietta.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Carpenter on Oct. 10, 1965; her second husband, Wesley T. Weber, on Aug. 24, 1999; three brothers, Glen, Halbert, and Cyril Pennell; a grandson, Todd Piatt; a son-in-law, Lester L. Piatt; and two stepsons, Robert and Vernon Weber.
    Surviving are two daughters, Anna Lee Piatt of Marietta and Ruth (Doug) Earley of Marietta; two sons, Byron (Jo Anne) Carpenter of Venice, Fla., and Wallace (Judy) Carpenter of Lewisville; three stepdaughters, Darlene (Norm) Mercer of Harrison, Ruth Radar of Zanesville, and Wanda (Gary) Seagraves of Springfield; one stepson, Richard (Mary Jo) Weber of Cambridge; one stepdaughter-in-law, Louise Weber of Huntsville; a sister-in-law, Virginia Pennell of Lewisville; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; 18 stepgrandchildren; 30 step great-grandchildren; and 11 step great-great-grandchildren.         Troy Leon Welding Jr., 52, of Bloomington, died Thursday at his residence.

        Born Oct. 2, 1953, in Monroe County, he was the son of Troy L. Welding Sr. and Joyce L. May Birch.

        He was retired from Otis Elevator with 27 years of service.

        He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Ellettsville.

        Survivors include his mother, Joyce Birch of Gosport; one son, Troy R. Welding of Stinesville; one daughter, Lisa Grimes of Ellettsville; one brother, Richard Welding of Ellettsville; three sisters, Kathy Anderson of Gosport, Rhonda Hodge and Connie May, both of Ellettsville; and three grandchildren, Amanda, Angela and Johnathan.

        He was preceded in death by his father and by his wife, Kim Phillips Welding.

        Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville with Brother Dave Jenner officiating. Burial will be at Old Dutch Cemetery.

        The Edmonson County native was a member of Fairview United Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Gilbert and Zelda Rhodes Hawks and the wife of the late Walter Sanders, Estel Jaggers and Rumsey Wells. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Barbara Sanders and Janet Fay Jaggers.

        Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Patton Funeral Home, Brownsville chapel, with burial in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

        Survivors include two sons, James Sanders and his wife, Leigh, of Morgantown and Paul Sanders and his wife, Sheila, of Park City; two brothers, Charlie and H.G.         CONNEAUT -- Freda Rose Caudill-White, age 46, of Conneaut, died Thursday, November 10, 2005, at her home.  She was born on July 20, 1959, in Ashtabula.  She attended Pentecostal Revival Center Church of Ashtabula.  She enjoyed the precious time with her children Jessie, Josh, Jaime, Jason and her best friend, Patrick McCall.  She enjoyed her family, friends and her animals.  Freda had a deep passion for life. 

        Surviving her are her sons, Jesse (Jen) White and Joshua (Audrey) White; children, Jaime (Mike) McCall and Jason (Jenelle) McCall; four adorable grandchildren, Patrick, Riley, Katie and Bailey; Patrick McCall "The love of her life"; four sisters, Sandra Caudill, Donna (Bud) Skaggs, Lola (Barry) Hamilton and Kathy (Bill) Smith; four brothers, Curtis (Rose) Caudill, Rodney (Cyndi) Caudill, Clyde (Renee) Caudill all of Ashtabula and Estill Caudill of Florida. 

        She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Imogene (Moore) Caudill and brothers, Edward and Freddie Caudill.

NEW MATAMORAS - Michael Santer Whitney, 69, of 1345 Brownsville Road, New Matamoras, died at 10:17 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2005 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born February 27, 1936, in Elyria, a son of John and Margaret Santer Whitney. He worked as a hydraulic repairman for Ford Motor Company in Brookpark until his retirement. He graduated from Brookpark High School and was the owner of the Dockside at Beavertown. In June of 1986, he married Mary L. Fraley Whitney, who survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Lori Tuttle and her husband, Tim, of Cuyahoga Falls; four sons, Blaine Jude of Paintsville, Kentucky., David Jude and his wife, Tammy, of Paintsville, Kentucky., Billy Jude and his wife, Kim, of Paintsville, Kentucky., and Ed Baker of Sandusky; one sister, Ann Miller and her husband, Bob, of Olmstead Falls; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Debi Tuttle.

A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Hadley Funeral Home, New Matamoras, with David Beaver officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today. There will be a private burial.

P. and Mary Eckelberry Foraker. Opal was a member of the Marietta Bible Center and

O'Neill Senior Center Adult Care in Marietta.

    She is survived by one son, Jerry A. Wilcox (Janice) of Lowell; one daughter, Cherryl Watt (Doug) of Belpre; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Wilma Hupp (Lawrence) of Graysville, Ohio; and one sister-in-law, Lyda Foraker of Barberton, Ohio.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gordon Wilcox; a brother, Ernest Foraker; and a sister, Ruth Payne.

        Charles Edward Williams, 71, of Theis Avenue, died Tuesday evening (Aug. 9, 2005) in Marietta Memorial Hospital.

        He was born Oct. 3, 1933, in Graysville, Ohio, a son of the late Jacob Wilson Williams and Anna Edith Cline Williams.  He spent most of his life in Marietta and at one time had lived on a farm near Vincent.  He had been employed at Dudley's Florist for many years and was later an attendant at the Macksburg Sohio Service Station.

        He married Theda Elizabeth Hawkins, who preceded him in death in 1990.  One son and two daughters survive:  Michael Edward Williams of Marietta, Donna Williams O'Brien of Pleasant Ridge Road, and Janet Kay Williams Longfellow of Whipple.  He is also survived by one brother, James Armstrong of Rinard Mills; two sisters, Mary Frances Williams Star [sic--Stark] and Betty Jane Williams, both of Macksburg; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Renia Wells of Marietta.

        Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with interment in Barker Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home from noon today until the hour of the services.

        Earl Ray Williams Jr., 41, of Franklin Street died Monday morning (Nov. 7 2005) at his home.

        He was born Dec. 31, 1963, at Point Pleasant, W.Va., a son of Earl Ray Williams Sr. and Janet Lee Wilkinson Williams.  He had spent most of his life in Marietta and had attended Marietta High School.  He had been employed at Silvesco for several years and was also employed at Sewah Studios and at the Shadow Trailer Company in Ocala, Fla.  He enjoyed working on automobiles and loved playing with his dog, Shadow.

       He is survived by his parents; his wife, Juanita Vuan Francis Williams; his children, Lori Williams, Jason Williams and his wife, Karyn Joann Williams, and Ashley Dawn Williams; his stepdaughter, Kristy Francis Brown of Marietta; one grandchild not yet born; and two grandchildren, Austin Alexander Francis and Christopher Donald Brown; one brother, Robert Dale Williams of Marietta, and two sisters, Linda Kay Brooks of Alabama and Mary Loraine Goodman of Marietta.

        Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with the Rev. Gale Lauderman officiating.  Interment will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.  Friends may call at the funeral home from this afternoon until the hour of service.

        Joseph F Williams, Jr, age 81, of Canton, died Monday afternoon at Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. He was born on April 25, 1923 in Akron, OH to the late Joseph F, Sr and Edna Faye (Hughes) Williams. He was employed for 35 years as a machinist for the Monarch Rubber Company. He was a member of the Westbrook Park United Methodist Church and it's board of directors for the Meals on Wheels program.

        Mr Williams is preceded in death in 1993 by his wife, Mary G (Alexandrou) Williams. He is survived by his wife, Erma Wenger-Williams; sons, Arthur J (Darlene) Williams of Hoschton, GA, Joseph F Williams III of Glendale, CA; daughters, Crystal (Jerry) Davis of Wadsworth, OH, Carol Jean Custer of Richville, OH; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one great great granddaughter; sisters, Mary Jane Carmany of Dallas, GA and Janet Murdick of Canton, OH.

        Oscar M. Williamson, 76, of Michigan Avenue, Marietta, died at 3:50 a.m. Thursday (July 28, 2005) at the Marietta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

        He was born on June 29, 1929, in Moundsville, W.Va., a son of Otto Glenn and Ada Lucille Scott Williamson. Mr. Williamson had been employed at Weirton Steel and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of several Masonic organizations and Fraternal Order of Eagles.

        He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Gates of Steubenville and Terri Rouse of Marysville, Ohio; five grandchildren; three aunts; and a special friend and caregiver, Margaret Williamson.

        He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Belinda Scalise; a brother, Kenny Williamson; and two sisters, Wanda Householder and Ilene Weber.

Wilson, Catherine Margaret  (nee Warner), 82, went home to be with her Lord on August 25, 2005. Kate was born in Powhatan Point, Ohio, to the late Dewey and Alpha Mae (Bennington) Warner, the eldest of nine children. Upon the passing of both her parents at a young age, she stepped up at age 15 to fill the role of mother to her brothers and sisters so that the family
could remain together. Kate was a ``Rosie the Riveter" at the Aircraft during World War II while her husband served overseas. She was an avid reader, loved to sew and crochet, and made special jeweled Christmas ornaments for her family and friends. She had a very ``green thumb." She loved Jeopardy. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and recently attended AMBC.

She was preceded in death by her husband, ``Hugger" Harold; brothers, Edward, Elmer, Russell, and Bob.

She is survived by her son, Dana Wilson, and daughter, Pat (Bob) Tressel of Akron; brothers, Glenn (Betty) Warner and Luke (Jean) of Akron; sisters, Anna Mae (Don) Bonnett of Uniontown and Ruth (Rollo) Lyberger of Cuyahoga Falls; special sister-in-law, Marie Warner of Akron; and Brownie, her beloved dog. She leaves six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

        Sharon graduated from Alliance High School in 1968, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Alliance.

        She is survived by her husband, Earl Windland, whom she married Aug. 16, 1974; one son, Robert A. (Megan) Windland, of Alliance; one daughter, Karla (Jimmy) Colon of Alliance; five grandchildren, Marianna, Jimmy Jr., Alexis, Alexandra, and Katherine Colon; four brothers, Andy Bolog of Akron, Craig (Pearl) Bolog of Alliance, Artie VanKampen of Alliance, and Gary VanKampen of Alliance; two sisters, Lori (Fred) Lyeberger of Atlanta, Georgia, and Robin (Steve) Caruso of Alliance, and several nieces and nephews.

        CALDWELL -- Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 532 North Street, Caldwell, for Lawrence Albert Winkler, 87, of Caldwell, who died Tuesday (April 26, 2005) at Southeastern Med, Cambridge.The Revs. Ken Hyland and Don Hitchcock will officiate. Burial will follow in the Zion Memorial Gardens.Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell.

        He was born Nov. 7, 1917, near Clarington, Monroe County, son of the late Albert G. and Mary M. Marty Winkler.Mr. Winkler was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, and a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II in Okinawa.He retired from the Noble County Soil and Water Conservation Service, where he served as a technician. He worked for 10 years at the former Gateway Market in Caldwell, and was a member of Hannibal Post 760 of the American Legion for 56 years.

        He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Lindenmeyer Winkler, on Dec. 1, 1945; three brothers, Godfrey, Herman and Homer Winkler; a sister, Martha Winkler; and a granddaughter, Julie Annette Brown.

        He leaves his wife, Arlene Mae Bauman Winkler, whom he married June 6, 1948; a daughter, Judy Ann (Jon N.) Brown of Caldwell; a granddaughter, Jody Annell (Jonathan) Glance of Cleveland.Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion United Church of Christ, Hannibal, OH, or First Presbyterian Church, Caldwell.

 

Wright, Hazel N. Wright, nee Bramhall

        Hazel N. Wright, 93, of Lebanon, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, at Christian Health Care South.

        She was born April 17, 1911, at Grovespring, Mo., to Alfred and Emma (Kinkade) Bramhall.

        On Aug. 21, 1935, she married Wilburn "Wib" Wright, who preceded her in death on June 2, 1990.  She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Don T. Wright; two brothers, LeRoy Bramhall and Lloyd Bramhall; and two sisters, Roberta Blair and Manola Hough.

        She was a homemaker and a member of Second Baptist Church.

        Survivors include a sister, Mary E. Walstrom, of Fresno, Calif.; five nephews, Robert "Jack" Blair of Charlotte, N.C.; Robert Lee Hough, of Lebanon; John E. Walstrom, of Lakeview, Calif.; Bob Walstrom, of Las Vegas, Nev.; and David Walstrom, of the state of Wyoming; two nieces, Sue (Blair) Shelf of Charlotte, N.C. and Kathy Vaughn, of Independence.

        Services for Hazel N. Wright will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at Thieme-Shadel-Hicks Funeral service at Colonial Chapel of Lebanon, with the Revs. Roger Mashall and L.J. Elam officiating.

        Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery, under the direction of Thieme-Shadel-Hicks Funeral service at Colonial Chapel of Lebanon.

        Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday in the chapel.

 

Wylie, Mildred L. Wylie nee Cline

Wooster- Mildred L. Wylie, 83, of Wooster went home to be with her Lord Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at her home. Born Aug. 27, 1922 , in Monroe County.  Mildred had worked at Rubbermaid, Freedlanders, Annats and was a driver for Nick Amster Workshop. She was a member of Wooster (Mount Zion) Church of God where she belonged to the Bible Study Group.

Surviving are a son Larry (Carolyn) Casey of Uniontown and a Daughter, Sharon (Don) Battig  of Wooster; four grandchildren, Jeffery A., Michael E. Battig, Mary Beth Bliniovich and Matthew A. Casey; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Violet (Walter) Streit of Ashland, Brenda Burns of Brownsville, Texas, and Averill Payne of Ashland.

Preceding her in death was her first husband George Lawrence Casey; second husband, Donald Opal; a brother, Ralph Cline; An infant brother, Cecil Payne; and sisters Evelyn Payne and Ethel Highman.

Friends will be received at the Wooster (Mount Zion) Church of God Wooster, one hour prior to the 11 a.m. service Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, with the Rev. Tom Geissinger officiating. Burial will follow In Wooster Cemetery.  Those who wish may make contributions to the building fund at the Wooster (Mount Zion) Church of God, 244 W. Yanakis, George J. Yanakis

        George J. Yanakis, 60, of Geff, died August 26, 2005 at 3:25 p.m. at Clay County Hospital in Flora.

        Funeral services will be held August 29, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Hosselton Funeral Home in Cisne.  Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Geff.  Brother Ernie Lewis will be officiating.

        Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. August 29, 2005 until the time of services.

        Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Christian Church in Geff.

        Mr. Yanakis was born January 25, 1945 in Evanston to George and Eleanor L. (Beeson) Yanakis.

        He was a dairy farmer and was a member of the Pleasant Grove Christian Church.

        Survivors include:  step-sister, Anna Marie Reynolds of Detroit, MI; step-brother, Don Yanakis of Detroit, MI; aunt, Dorothy Weaver of Johnsonville; niece, Donna Kay Hall of Clearwater, FL; several cousins.

        He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara.

 

Yost, Betty V. Yost, nee Elliott

          YOST, Betty V., 79, of Reader, W.Va., died Friday, June 24, 2005 in Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville, W.Va.

          She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Reader, W.Va.,: a member of Tops WV 206 Pine Grove; and for several years had worked as dispatcher for Wetzel County Emergency Squad, Pine Grove, W.Va.

          She was preceded in death by her husband, Mont Yost on January 26, 1994, her parents, James and Bessie Tiger Elliott; and one brother, James Elliott

          Surviving are one son Gordon Yost (Jeanie) of Reader; three daughters, Bessie Haught (Jim) of Smithfield, W.Va., Virginia Derby (Leroy) and Donna Hinerman (Brooks), all of Reader, W.Va.,;11 Grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and 50 plus foster grandchildren

          Friends will be received from 2-9 p.m. Sunday at the Palmer Funeral Home, Pine Grove, W.Va.

          Friends will then be received from 12 noon until time of services at 1 p.m. Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Reader, W.Va. with Ron Acord officiating. Interment in the Knights of Pythias Cemetery, Pine Grove, W.Va.

 

Yost, Dortha Jane Yost, nee Sovil

          WELLSBURG – Dortha Jane (Sovil) Yost, age 79, of Chestnut Heights, Wellsburg, W.Va. passes away Feb 25, 2005, in the Brightwood Center, Follansbee, W.Va. She was born Feb. 2, 1926, in Piney, W.Va. She was a homemaker and *Wellsburg Nazarene Church in Wellsbur, W.Va. Preceding her in death were her parents, Liss Weekley and Lula Mae (Sovil) Weekley; her husband Jesse Ray Yost who passed away Sept. 17, 2002; three brothers, Melvin Sovil, Ross Weekley, Sr. and Willie Weekley; and one sister, Irene Marie Weekley.

Surviving is one nephew, Ross Weekley of Wellsburg, W.Va.; one great-niece, Kayla Givens of Cameron, W.Va.; one brother, Henry Weekley of Pine Grove, W. Va.; two sisters, Violet Bassett of Reader, W.Va. and Freda Dilley of Bath, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation is Sunday, Feb 27, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Reasner Funeral Home, 1515 Charles St., Wellsburg, W.Va.

          Service on Monday, Feb. 28 at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Rodney Kincaid of Wellsburg Nazarene Church. Interment at Franklin Cemetery, Wellsburg, W.Va.

Yost, Lacy Ray Yost

          Lacy Ray Yost, 47, of Lancaster, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Feb. 8, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer.

God saw that you were getting tired,

And a cure was not to be,

So He put His loving arms around you

And whispered, “Come home with me.”

With Tearful eyes we watched you suffer,

And saw you fade away,

Although we loved you dearly,

We could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating

A determined spirit was at rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us

He only takes the best.”

          Lacy was a very proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 12 years. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, riding his motorcycle, and hunting. He is dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

          Lacy is survived by his parents, Lester and Jean (Hill) Yost, wife, Kathy (Russell) Yost; children, Christy (Cratus) Sanders, Ray (Amy) Yost, Beth (Josh) Chisnell; grandchildren, Alexis and Trevor Sanders, Baley Major and Collin Ray Yost, Nicholas, Jacob and MaKayla Chisnell, all of Akron; sisters, Kathy (Larry) Daggett of Elizabeth, W.Va., Tish White of Cumberland, Ohio; Violet Ford of New Concord. He was preceded in death by sister, Melissa, and grandson, Tyler Yost.

          Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday Feb. 11, 2005 at Sheridan Funeral Home, 222 S. Columbus St., Lancaster, Ohio, with Pastor Bill Hargett officiating, Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery. Friends may visit Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

 

Yost, Mary Margaret Yost nee Gribble

BARLOW - Mary Margaret Gribble Yost, 86, of Barlow, peacefully passed away on Sunday (Dec. 11, 2005) at the home of her son, Lee A. Yost. She was born July 1, 1919, at Woodsfield, Ohio, to Jean L. and Alma Morris Gribble.

Mary and Jim Yost were the proud parents of six sons: Bill A. Yost, wife Kathy of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., his children Craig Yost (Trina) of Layman, Michael Yost (Janel) of Herndon, Va., Jenny Bowe (Brian) of Layman and their mother Suzan Yost of Barlow; Don A. Yost, wife Darlene of Barlow, their children Rachelle Yost of Columbus, Ohio, and Rebecca Yost of Barlow; Jay O. Yost, (deceased) wife Marilou of Belcamp, Md., his children Carl Yost (Sheri) of Marysville, Carla Yost of Westerville and their mother Rose Yost of Grove City; Charles Jean Yost, wife Mary of Barlow, their children Jena Traikoff (Pat) of Uniontown, Jason Yost (Crystal) of Waterford, Justin Yost (Jessica) of Layman; Le A. Yost, wife Linda of Barlow, their children Mathew Yost (Daphne) of Gahanna (Matt currently serving in Bishkek Kyrgyzstan with the U.S. Air Force 179 Airwing C130), David Yost (Ashley) of Barlow and Clifford Yost of Barlow; and Linn E. Yost, wife Betty of Barlow.

Mary was "Grandma Yost" to 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild.

Mary is survived by her sister, Ruth (Gribble) Varner of Yellow Springs; and three brothers, Robert Gribble of Layman, James Gribble (Jean) of Layman, and Bruce Gribble (Jean) of Canton; and brothers-in-law, Joe and Paul Yost of Layman and Lester Seaman of Barlow.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of 58 years, James O. Yost. Mr. Yost had been co-owner/operator of Seaman and Yost General Store in Barlow for 35 years.

Mary led an interesting and varied life, beginning in 1920 when her family returned to "The Cedars" in Palmer Township, the 1829 homestead of her great-great grandparents, Isaac and Mary Ann Armstrong Perry. In 1930 her family moved to the "Green Hill Farm" in Fairfield Township. In her youth she attended school at Oak Hill, Layman and the Barlow Rural High School in Vincent, Ohio. Mary was a 1941 graduate of Ohio University, receiving a B.A. in home economics, and received her master's degree in education in 1962.

Mary taught for 21 years, home economics at Lower Salem, Vincent, Barlow Local and Warren High schools. She was an adviser of Future Homemakers of America during all of her years of teaching and active in the State Future Homemakers of America. From 1976 to 1980 Mary served on the Warren Board of Education - one year as president. Mary was former president and secretary of Washington County Retired Teachers.

Mary was active in many community and civic organizations, including 4-H, Boy Scouts, Grange, the Farm Bureau Youth Group and the Layman Methodist Church. She was an active charter member of Barlow Fire Department Auxiliary and served often as an officer. An active member for more than 40 years in the Barlow Presbyterian Church, Mary served as a youth teacher and leader, elder, and clerk and was on the finance committee. She served on the Westminster Preschool board from its start. In 1968 she was named to Marquis's "Who's Who of American Women." She taught Red Cross home nursing for a number of years. She was an active guide on the nature trail at Washington County Vocational School. In 1989 Mary, along with Florence Tackett, conceived the idea of the nature trail for Barlow Vincent School. They worked through the development securing volunteer help, planting, pruning, and now for the past 16 years the Discovery Trail has been used by Scouts, students at B-V, Warren High and other groups to learn about nature. Mary was a member of Marietta Garden Club and held many offices and also the Barlow Bluebells Garden Club. She was awarded Outstanding Gardener of Region 11. In 2000 Mary and Jim Yost made contributions to start the "Barlow Tree Fund." Its purpose is to plant

and maintain trees or provide educational materials about the trees in the

Barlow area.

In 1992, Mary received Woman of the Year Award by Zonta International. As a board member of the Washington County Public Library she was a major supporter of the new library branch at Barlow that opened in 1997. Mary enjoyed golf and the ladies group at Oxbow Golf Course, stamp collecting and sewing. One of her greatest passions was for nature, birds, flowers, and trees, and she enjoyed sharing her knowledge of feeding birds and wildlife. As an amateur photographer Mary took hundreds of photos and won several photo awards. She was a member of the Washington County Hiking Club and actively took her parents and sons along, hiking the natural areas of the county. A member of the Washington County Historical Society and the Western Washington County Historical Society, she took much pleasure in finding new clues to our own communities past.

Most of all, she enjoyed people, was a great listener and a tireless participant in all activities she undertook. Her family, many friends and the Barlow and surrounding communities, will deeply miss her. The Barlow Chapel of Cawley and Peoples Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. There will be a gathering of family and friends to greet visitors from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday (Dec. 15, 2005) and visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday (Dec. 16) with a memorial service following at 11 a.m. By her request: "Scatter my ashes to the wind to help the flowers grow." "If by chance, you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you. Plant a tree to shade someone who will later walk the paths we have enjoyed."

Young, Carrie Young, nee Shambough

        LOUDONVILLE - Carrie Isabelle Miller Young, 89, 600 S. Market St., went home to be with her Lord, Wednesday afternoon, April 20, 2005, at Colonial Manor Health Care Center, Loudonville.

        Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home in Loudonville, with the Rev. David Koehler of Loudonville Baptist Temple officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Perrysville.

        Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.        Carrie was born Feb. 26, 1916, in Green Township, Ashland County, to Herschel C. and Mary (Weltmer) Shambaugh and married Thomas K. Miller in May 1934. He died in 1958. In April 1968, she married Ernest F. Young. He died in 2003, after 35 years of marriage.

        She was a 1933 graduate of Perrysville High School and attended secretarial school in Mount Vernon.

        She had made her home in the Loudonville area most of her life and was raised in the Vermillion Baptist Church. She was a member of Loudonville Christian Church.

        Surviving are children, Thomas (Joycelyn) Miller and Virginia Nave, both of Loudonville, Gertrude (George) Straits of Millersburg and Susan (Delbert) Howman of Ashland; stepsons, Wilbert (Judy) Young of Virginia, Lloyd (Linda) Young and Ernest Young Jr., both of Wooster; grandchildren, Debby Raby, Scott Nave, Teresa Titko, Lisa DeWitt, Shelley Costello, Stephanie Straits, Roy and Joel Howman; step-grandchildren, Scott, Kim, Mike, Jeff, Jim, Jerry and Julie Young; and many great-grandchildren.

        In addition to her husbands, a granddaughter, Brenda Nave, brothers, Monroe, George and Jim Shambaugh, and sisters, Helen Robinson and Betty Brennstuhl, died previously.

 

Zahler, Rose Marie Zahler, nee Burleson

        Rose Marie Zahler, age 49, of Canton, went to be with her Lord, Friday, September 2, 2005 following a recent illness.

        She was born November 8, 1955 in Canton to the late Roy and Nora Lee (Boron) Burleson.

        Survivors include her step-mother, Ruth I. Burleson of East Sparta; daughter, Nora Renne (Rick) Brown of Canton; son, David (Tiffany) Zahler Jr. of Louisville; sister, Carol Adorisio of Ohio; brothers, Cecil, Dennis and Allen Burleson all of Canton; grandchildren, Andrea Armstrong, Natalie, Ericah and Ciara Brown, Brock Zahler and Parker Utley; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and a special friend, John. She is preceded in death by a brother, Oscar.

        Friends are invited to join her family Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. at the Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home in Louisville to share in an evening of Remembrance.
