*Submitter's Note: I am
looking at a clipping of Viola's obituary.
I think it is from the Columbus [Ohio] Dispatch, but it does not appear
on the obituary index at the Columbus, Ohio, Metropolitan Library. Still the obituary appears to be from the Disptach because of the format. The Dispatch usually puts
the last name in caps above the article.
They don’t indent at all. They do not always use full sentences, like
the first “Viola Collins, age 76” is very typical of how their obituaries are
written. The order of topics covered is
similar--personal information, survivors, funeral. They usually put the name of the funeral home
in solid caps, and the wording of that sentence is almost identical to her
husband's See her husband Howard’s
obituary below as an example:

Wellington
woman
murdered
by Mike Schneider
WELLINGTON
A Wellington woman who was serving in
the Navy was killed late Friday night near San Diego. A woman, also serving in the Navy, faces
murder charges.
Dead is Airman E-3 Shelly Elaine Dupee, 21, daughter of Robert and Sally Dupee,
206 Shelia Drive. Robert Dupee is Wellington's director of utilities.
Miss Dupee
was found in the living room of her apartment in Spring Valley, Calif., after
suffering "numerous stab wounds to the upper body and extremities,"
said the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
A neighbor discovered Ms. Dupee's door open, found her body, and called the owner of
the building, who called the Sheriff's Department, reports said. Deputies arrived at the apartment at 10:20
p.m. where they were told by fire and rescue personnel that Miss Dupee had been pronounced dead at the scene.
Ten minutes later, officers from the
Lemon Grove Sheriff's Station found Sherral Lyn Owens Clayton, 24, of Lemon
Grove, Calif., at the Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego. Miss Clayton, also in the Navy, and described
by a sheriff's deputy as an acquaintance of Ms. Dupee,
was being treated for a laceration to her left hand.
Miss Clayton faces murder charges. She was being held without bail last night at
the LaColinas Women's Detention Facility near San
Diego.
No motive was known last night, but
sheriff's deputies did say an altercation occurred between the two women. He said an autopsy would be performed to find
the exact cause and time of death.
A spokeswoman for the Sheriff's
Department described Spring Valley and Lemon Grove as San Diego suburbs sharing
a common boundary. Balboa Naval Hospital
is about 10 miles from Ms. Dupee's Spring Valley
apartment, she said.
The victim's parents were unavailable
for comment last night, but her aunt spoke for the family.
"They're very proud that Shelly
was in the Navy," said Norma Robson of Wakeman,
Sally Dupee's sister,* holding back tears.
"In July, they received a letter
from her commanding officer saying that Shelly was chosen HS-10 plane captain
of the quarter. She was chosen from
among 400 people."
Wellington Mayor Bud Handley called Ms.
Dupee's murder a tragedy.
"My thoughts have been with Bob
and his family all day," Handley said yesterday afternoon.
Ms. Dupee
attended South Central Schools before the family moved to Wellington several
years ago. She graduated from Wellington
High School in 1985, where she was active in Future Homemakers of America and
American Field Service. She was also on
the staff of the school's annual yearbook.
Prior to joining the Navy in February
1987, she worked as a teller at Strongsville Savings Bank in Wellington, and as
a cashier at Brumfield's Sparkle Market.
*Submitter's Note:
Norma Robson was a sister-in-law to Sally Dupee. She was the sister of Shelly's father, Robert
Dupee.

Hearing
held in Dupee murder
WELLINGTON
Sherral
Lyn Owens Clayton was arraigned in the San Diego County Superior Court
yesterday on the charge that she murdered Wellington native Shelly Dupee.
According to the San Diego District Attorney's office, Miss Clayton is
charged with one count of murder with the use of a knife. It was argued in court that Clayton is to be
considered a dangerous person and she was arraigned yesterday with her bail set
at $250,000. It was learned in court
that Miss Dupee was stabbed 55 times.
A San
Diego County Sheriff's detective said they believe that Miss Clayton, of Lemon
Grove, Calif., repeatedly stabbed Miss Dupee during a
fight between the two women last Friday.
The police have not determined what the fight was about.
However,
a neighbor of Miss Dupee's at an apartment complex on
Canyon Road in Spring Valley said Miss Clayton is claiming self
defense in the slaying.
Police
have still not found the murder weapon, believed to be a butcher's knife. The Sheriff's detective said yesterday that a
team of investigators were searching in Spring Valley where Miss Dupee's body was found, and in other areas in San Diego
County.
Both Miss
Clayton, 24, and Miss Dupee, 21, served at the North
Island Naval Base in San Diego.

Man killed
when vehicle flips
twice
A former Shelby County man was killed
Saturday when the jeep he was driving went off County Road 150E and flipped
twice, reports said.
Jan B. Neeb,
46, Indianapolis, died at 7:40 p.m. Saturday at W.S. Major Hospital of head and
internal injuries, reports said.
A passenger in the jeep, Tony A. Neeb, 23, R.R. 1, Waldron, is in stable condition this
morning at Major Hospital. Tony Neeb, Jan's son, suffered head and internal injuries,
reports said.
Both men and two other passengers, Bill
Neeb and Tony McColley,
were thrown from the open-topped, four-wheel drive jeep, according to a Shelby
County Sheriff's Department report.
Bill Neeb and
McColley, no ages or addresses available, refused
treatment, reports said.
The accident occurred about 6:10 p.m.
near County Road 125E.* [*Submitter’s Note: I am not positive that this
number is correct. It was difficult to
read on my copy of the obituary.] The jeep was traveling northbound on County
Road 150E when it met a vehicle coming from the other direction, reports said.
A tire on the jeep dropped off the
road, and Neeb lost control of the vehicle. The jeep flipped over, crossed the road, went
down an embankment and came to rest on its wheels on the south side of County
Road 150E, reports said.
Witnesses in a vehicle traveling behind
the jeep told police the vehicle rolled over twice.
Reports said there was a strong odor of
alcohol on the breath of Jan Neeb. A blood test was sent to the Indiana State
Police laboratory to determine Neeb's blood-alcohol
level, reports said.
Assisting at the scene were the
Shelbyville Fire Department and the Shelbyville-Shelby County Emergency
Ambulance Service.
The fatality was the second in Shelby
County since the beginning of the year, according to the state police.
Born in Shelby County Oct. 28, 1941, he
was a son of Harold and Edna Mabel (Baker) Neeb.
Mr. Neeb had
lived in Indianapolis for three years.
Prior to that, he had lived in Shelbyville and Waldron.
For three years he had been a
supervisor at the Action Steel Co., Indianapolis.
His memberships include the Blue Ridge
Christian Church and the Indianapolis National Guard.
Survivors include his parents,
Shelbyville; two sons, William Ray Neeb, Flat Rock,
and Tony Alan Neeb, Waldron; a daughter, Natalie Ann Neeb, Shelbyville; three sisters, Mrs. Ann McVey, Waldron;

Beach, Waldron; five brothers, Charles Neeb,
