        GRAYSVILLE--Cars Alexander Anderson, 84, of Route 1 died Wednesday afternoon in his home.

        He was born June 20, 1898, in Monroe County to Charles and Hannah Sloan Anderson.  He was a retired farmer and oil field worker and was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ.

        Survivors include his wife, Myra Morris Anderson, of the home; a son, Willis of Graysville; two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Rosalie) Coss and Mrs. Fred (Ruth) Woodyard, both of Zanesville; a brother, Luther of Graysville; four sisters, Mrs. Lila Rinard and Mrs. Nellie Rinard, both of Graysville, Mrs. Arlie (Nettie) Martin of Sycamore Valley and Georgia Anderson of Zanesville; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

        Friends will be received at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home at Woodsfield from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday.  The body will be taken to the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ at Graysville Rt. 1at noon Saturday where funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

 

Baker, Grace M. Baker, nee Jacobs

        Services for Grace M. Baker will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Gilbert Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Knute Larson officiating.  Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

        Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

        Mrs. Baker was born Feb. 6, 1894, in Ashland County.  She was the daughter of Melvin D. and W. Lorena Mason Jacobs.

        Mrs. Baker, 88, of 1011 County Road 1175, RD 3, Ashland, died Saturday at Woodlawn Nursing Home, Mansfield.

        She had resided in Ashland County most of her life and was a member of Grace Brethren Church.

        Survivors include two sons, Lyle of Ashland and the Rev. W. Wayne Baker of Winona Lake, Ind.; 17 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

        She was married July 16, 1912 to George Wilbur* Baker, who preceded her in death Jan. 7, 1976.

        She was also preceded in death by two daughters and one son.

Bauman, Nellie Bauman, nee Bertschy

        Sympathy is extended to the family of Mrs. Nellie Bauman who died at the Wetzel County Hospital Saturday.  All who knew her also mourn the loss of a good friend and neighbor.  Mrs. Bauman had been an active member of the St. John's UMC for many years.  When services were no longer held there, she transfered [sic] her membership and loyalty to the Zion UCC and she was active in the services, Sunday School and Women's Guild.

 

Bowersock, Mary E. Bowersock, nee Mendenhall

Bowersock, Mary E.

(Formerly of Bay City)

        Mrs. Bowersock passed away following a lingering illness, Monday evening, July 4, 1983 at Bay Medical Care Facility, age 80 years.  She was born July 25, 1902 in Pine Ridge, Ohio and has resided in Bay City since 1939.  She was a member of First Baptist Church and retired from the former Mercy Hospital.  Her husband Elmer, predeceased her on December 27, 1970.  Surviving her are two sons:  John R. Bowersock of Sterling, Mich. and Stanley Bowersock of Bay City; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sisters:  Mrs. Marie Krikbride of Elyria, Ohio, and Mrs. Edna Mendenhall of Detroit; and her nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 1983 at Gephart Funeral Home, Inc.  Officiating will be Rev. Robert M. Biddison and interment will be in Floral Gardens Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home when the family will be present Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

 

Boyd, Charles A. Boyd

        Charles A. Boyd, 59, of Reno died at 4 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Hospital at Parkersburg following an extended illness.

        He was born Sept. 19, 1923, in Marietta to the late Harrison L. Boyd and Edna Dye Boyd Buell.  He had been employed at Hendershot's Marathon Service Station for 10 years.  He was a member of the Buckeye Sheriff's Association, the Seventh Day Adventist Church, and a former member of the Reno Volunteer Fire Department and the Veteran of Foreign Wars.  He had served with the Military Police during World War II.

        He is survived by one brother, George Boyd of Marietta; three nieces, three great nephews and four great nieces.

        Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the McClure-Schafer Funeral Home with Arnold Kramer officiating.  Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park with military rites at the grave.  Friends may call at the funeral home from this afternoon until the hour of the services.

 

Bramhall, Opal Bramhall, nee Simmons

        Services for Opal Bramhall, 77, of Kansas City, formerly of Lebanon, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Pitts Chapel at Bolivar, with the Reverend Peter Dominguez officiating.

        Mrs. Bramhall died Saturday night in Research Hospital, Kansas City.  She was retired from National Bell and Hess Corp.

        Surviving are an aunt and several cousins.

        The family will be at the funeral home from 7-9 tonight.

 

Briggs, Robert Alvin Briggs

        Services for Robert Alvin Briggs, Denver, were Monday at Westminster United Presbyterian Church.  Burial was in Crown Hill.

        Briggs, 73, died Thursday at Presbyterian Medical Center.

        He was born Jan. 23, 1909, in Greeley, and was reared and educated there.  His first wife, the form Leta Eidson, died in 1954.  In 1966 he was married to Lettie Gregory Cooke in Denver.  Briggs was employed by Morey Mercantile Co. and National Jewish Hospital.  After his retirement in 1977 he was a volunteer at the Arthritis Craft Shop where he taught chair caning.  He enjoyed gardening and fishing.  He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 1.

        He is survived by his wife; six daughters, Arlene Weaver, Texas, Dorothy Jackson, Hotchkiss, Ruth Schubert, Georgia, Mary Ann Straw, San Jose, Calif., and Elsie Elliott and Evelyn Harvey, both of Westminster; two sons, Robert A. Jr., Westminster, and Albert, Littleton; five stepdaughters, Betty Cudsworth, Estes Park, Leona VanCleef, Castle Rock, Myra Pearson, Kansas, Marlene Cialone, New Jersey, and Diane Burkland, Denver; four brothers, Ray, Arizona, Clarence, Greeley, Lloyd, Monterey, Calif., and George, Casper, Wyo.; three sisters, Virginia Lantz, Greeley, Opal Briggs, Los Angeles, and Faye Henneck, Greeley; 44 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.

        Contributions may be made to the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, West 74th Avenue and Osceola Street, Westminster, 80030.

 

Brown, George Alfred Brown

George Alfred Brown, 74, of Barrister St., Belmont, died Thursday at his home.  He was born Oct. 10, 1908 at Klee, a son of the late Ben and Myrtle Cook Brown.  He was a retired employee of Nickles Bakery, Martins Ferry, and a member of the Church of Christ at Belmont.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Funkhouser Brown in 1953, his second wife, Ruth Pratt Brown in 1981 and a brother Harley.

Surviving are three sons, Wayne of Port Huron, Mich., Joseph of Red Bluff Calif., and Franklin of Bridgeport; two daughters, Mrs. Nancy (Darby) Landers and Mrs. Betty (George) Redpath, both of Bellaire; a stepson, Jerold West of Rittman; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Donna Parker of Cambridge; a brother, Walter of Prosser, Wash.; two sisters, Mrs. Ann Funkhouser of Belmont, and Mrs. Nettie Klee of Bellaire; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Walter C. Bauknecht and Son Funeral Home, Bellaire after 7 p.m. Saturday and all day Sunday.  Final arrangements are incomplete. 

 

Brown, Homer Brown   

Homer Brown, 93, 306 South Lincoln Ave.,Barnesville, died in Barnesville Hospital Wednesday, August 10, 1983. Born March 10, 1890, in Monroe County he was a son of Abel and Nancy Pierce Brown.  He was a Protestant by faith and a life member of the American Legion Post 168 and Veteran of World War I Barracks No. 3221.

He was preceded in death by his wife Stella; one son, Charles, five brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are one son, Harry, of Columbus; two daughters, Mrs. Vernon (Josephine) Davis and Mrs. Robert (Virginia) McCabe, both of Barnesville; one sister, Mrs. Versa Leach, Barnesville; four grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren.

Services were held from the Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home Saturday at 3 p.m. Burial was made in the Crestview Cemetery.

 

Brown, Laura Dean Brown, nee Denbow

        Mrs. Laura Dean Brown, 80, of 1612 Bennett Ave., died Saturday, March 5, at Bethesda Hospital following a long illness.

        She was born Oct. 24, 1902, in Lewisville, a daughter of Sinclair and Jane Laffaree* Denbow.

        An area resident for most of her life, she was a member of the South Zanesville Church of the Nazarene.

        She is survived by her husband James V. Brown, whom she married June 1, 1941; two nieces, Mrs. Clinton (Hazel) Snyder of 1810 Lawhead Lane and Mrs. Robert (Jane) Wessling of Mansfield and a nephew, Harold Metzger of Birmingham, Ala.

        Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Tuesday at the Bolin Funeral Home, where final arrangements are incomplete.

**Submitter's Note:  On the  Ohio, Births and Christenings Index, 1774-1973, her mother was listed as Louisa Jane Laffere.  Many other residents of the area spell the name as Lafferre.

 

Brown, Robert C. Brown

        Funeral services will be conducted for Robert C. Brown, 63, at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the Evangeline Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon A. A. Woodburn officiating.  Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

        Brown died Thursday at 4:15 p.m. in a local hospital.  He was an insurance agent for National Life and Accident Insurance Co. and a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army.

        He was a native of Greenwich, Ohio and a resident of New Iberia at the time of his death.

        Brown was the husband of Rosemary Gary Brown of New Iberia, and the son of the late Charles D. Brown and the late Edna Mae Cronin.

        He is survived by two sons and two daughters: Robert C. Brown Jr., Gary D. Brown, Mrs. Allen (Dawn) Bourque and Linda Brown Pourciau all of New Iberia.

        Also surviving are nine grandchildren.

        A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel.  By request of the family, the funeral home will close today at 10 p.m. and reopen at 8 a.m. tomorrow.

        The Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

 

Brown, William E. Brown

        William E. (Bill) Brown, 42, of 6382 Hill St., Ravenna, died early today at Robinson Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.

        Born March 1, 1941 in Noble County, Mr. Brown lived in the Ravenna area most of his life.  He had been employed in Mantua as a machinist for the Eaton Corp.  He was a member of Black Horse Baptist Church and the Ravenna Moose Club 1234.

        Surviving are his wife, Ramona; daughters, Sherry and Lori, and son, William, all at home; parents, Lester and Freda Brown of Ravenna; sister, Debra of Ravenna; brothers, James and Larry of Kent, and Carl, John, Roger and Michael, all of Ravenna.

        Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

        Services will be a 11 a.m. at * funeral home, with the Rev. Lorren Roberts officiating.  Burial * be in Grandview Memorial Park.

        Survivors: wife, LaVonne; daughter Teresa at home; brothers, Ralph of Wichita, Richard of Concord, Mich.; sisters, Ruth Stansfield of Minneapolis, Mae Kennedy of Martell, Neb., Gladys Ketterer of Wichita; mother, Clara of Martell.

          Memorial has been established with Bob Buettgenbach Fund for Aviation Scholarship, Forth National Bank. Dunsford Funeral Home, Augusta.

 

Burch, Robert R. Burch

        FOLLANSBEE -- Robert  R. Burch Sr., 63, of May Road, Follansbee, died Saturday at St. John Medical Center.

        He was an employee of Titanium Metals Corp. of Toronto until his retirement, a member of the Hooverson Heights Fire Department and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp.  He was a member of St. Johns Road Baptist Church.

        Surviving are his wife, Martha Gregory Burch; his mother, Bessie Ann Dillon Burch of Follansbee; one son, Robert Burch Jr., at home; five daughters, Mrs. James (Terry) Mantos of Bloomingdale, Mrs. Patsy (Dianne) Pepe Jr. of Louise, W. Va., Donna Burch of Columbiana, S.C., Beverly Martin of Follansbee and Mrs. Robert (Roberta) Fowler of West Liberty; one brother, Charles F. of Follansbee; and six grandchildren.

        He was born Nov. 17, 1919, in Cleveland.  He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph R. Burch.

Carpenter, Harriet Carpenter - nee Leach

        Mrs. Harriet Leach Carpenter, 79, of 518 Logan St., Dennison, died at Twin City Hospital emergency room at 4:18 A.M. today (May 18, 1983). She had been ill six months.

        She was born in Calais, Monroe County, on Aug. 22, 1903, a daughter of the late Samuel and Angie Carpenter Leach. She was married Nov. 12, 1924 to Otto Carpenter who died April 2, 1948.

        She leaves six sons, Clayton J. of Port Washington, William R. and Thomas, both of Uhrichsville and Leonard, Junior and Dennis, all of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Beulah Henry of Uhrichsville, Mrs. Robert (Wilma) Briggs of New Philadelphia; Mrs. Wanda Miller of Coshocton and Miss Linda Carpenter of the home; one brother Arch Leach of Calais; two sisters, Mrs. Kate Euclid* and Mrs. Jennie Mansel,* both of Zanesville; 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Six brothers and one sister are deceased.

        Services will be Friday at 11 A.M. at R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home, Dennison, with the Rev. A. J. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Calais Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M.

Carpenter, Joseph L. Carpenter

            WEST  LAFAYETTE--Joseph L. Carpenter,  92, of East Fourth Street,  West Lafaytte,  died at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital Sunday (Jan. 9, 1983) at 11:15 a.m. following an extended illness.

            He was born in Monroe County,  a son of Daniel and Mary Pierce Carpenter.  He was a farmer all his life in Monroe County and was a member of Summerfield Church of Christ.

            He leaves his wife,  Louisa Hannahs Carpenter who he married Nov. 22,  1913;  one son Elvin Carpenter of West Lafayette;  one daughter Gene (Ada) Freetag of West Lafayette;  one sister Goldie Carpenter of Batesville;  four grandchildren;  four great-grandchildren,  and one great-great-grandson.  Two brothers and two sisters are deceased.

            Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Given-Dawson Funeral Home,  West Lafayette,  with the Rev. Edward McGuiggan officiating.  Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery,  West Lafayette.  Calling hours at the funeral home will be 7 to 9 p.m. today and until services Tuesday.

 

Casey, Bradley Casey

        WEST  LAYFAYETTE – A massive rescue operation involving workers from Tuscarawas, Coshocton and Holmes counties recovered the body of a 20 year-old Sarahsville man from the Tuscarawas River here Sunday morning.

       Coshocton County Sheriff's officials said the body of Bradley Casey was recovered by divers at 9:30 A.M. in 10 to 12 feet of water.

        Rescue operations began at 1:34 A.M. when Casey's cousin, Richard Bates of West Lafayette, called the sheriff's department to report a possible drowning.

        Bates and Casey were reportedly working a trout line in the river when their boat capsized.  Bates told authorities he was able to swim to shore and call for help.

        Dr. Donald G. Warren, Coshocton County coroner, was at the scene and ruled the drowning accidental.

        Mr. Casey was born Nov. 1, 1962 in Cambridge, son of Charlotte Casey Brumage and the late Rex Casey.

        A Shenandoah High School and Nashville Auto Diesel College graduate, he was a member of Pleasant Hill Community Church and Caldwell Eagles Aerie 2952.

        In addition to his mother, he leaves his step-father, Harry Brumage;  a brother, John of Caldwell;  two sisters, Mrs. James (Wendy) Hughley of Caldwell and Trudy of the home;  a half-brother, Jay Brumage with the U.S. Marines Corps in the Philippine Islands; a half-sister,  Mrs. Gae Tretenick of Clarksville, PA.;  maternal grandmother, Irene Clark of Sarahsville; paternal grandparents, Charles and Betty Casey of Sarahsville;  and a nephew Charley Hughley.

        Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. today at McVay Funeral Home, Caldwell, where services will be 1 P.M. Thursday with Rev. Paul McGraw officiating.  Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. 

 

Cates, Kenneth Lyle Cates

Lyle Cates, 77, Long Time Airtex Worker Dies

        Kenneth Lyle Cates, 77, of Herrin, a retired Airtex Products employee, formerly of Fairfield, died at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, June 18, 1983, in Herrin Hospital at Herrin.

        Mr. Cates had resided for 40 years in Fairfield prior to moving to Herrin.

                                                   Graveside Services

        Graveside funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday (today) at the Cisne Cemetery in Cisne with Bro. Mendon Darnell officiating. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Meridith Funeral Home at Carbondale.

        Mr. Cates was born in Wayne County Sept. 1, 1905, the son of Louis and Chloe (Cariens) Cates.

        He was married to the former Lucille Spicer, of Johnsonville, in 1935. She preceded him in death in March of 1972.

        Mr. Cates was employed as a laborer at Airtex Products and retired  in 1971.

        He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge, both of Fairfield.

Christman, Clyde Christman

        QUAKER CITY -- Clyde Christman, 54, of Quaker City, died at 9 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 12, 1983) in Barnesville Hospital.

        He was born Jan. 8, 1929 in Noble County, son of the late Walter S. and Lula Wehr Christman.  A farmer and an operating engineer, he was a member of the Quaker City United Methodist Church.

        In addition to his wife, Clara Belle Kennon, who he married Oct. 27, 1951, he leaves five sons, Clyde Reed, Jay and Darin, all of the home.  Dennis and Clinton, both of Quaker City; two brothers, Ralph of Jerusalum [sic--Jerusalem] and Don of Summerfield; six sisters, Katherine Miller of Cuyahoga Falls, Florence Wells, Peggy McLaughlin and Eva Pearl Kennon, all of Barnesville, Jane Powell of Quaker City and Doris Green of Cambridge; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

        One sister and one grandchild preceded him in death.

       Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Thorn-Eberle Funeral Home in Quaker City, where services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday with Rev. William Pickenpaugh officiating.  Burial will be in Friends Cemetery.

 

City, Damon F. City

        BLOOMFIELD -- Damon F. City, 64, R. 5, Bloomfield, died Thursday afternoon at Greene County General Hospital.

        Born June 18, 1918, in Jasonville, he was the son of Elmer and Nellie (Byers) City.  He was an Air Force veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion, Post 106 in Worthington.  He was retired from Crane in 1978 where he worked as a machinist.

        Survivors include his wife, Thelma (Haldeman) City; three daughters, Diana Sue Baugh and Mary Dee Turpin, both of Worthington and Zenobia Ruth Lewis of Kingsville, Texas; two sons, Elmer City of Brownsburg and Jeffrey City of Spartanburg, S.C.; one brother, Benson City of Clinton; two sisters, Beatrice Tow of Long Beach Calif., and Emogene Disney of Martinsville; 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

        Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Welch and Cornett Worthington Chapel with Joe Conarroe officiating.  Burial will be in Worthington Cemetery.

        Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Saturday and noon until services Sunday.

 

Claybaugh, Edgar F. Claybaugh

Former     Toulon     Resident     Dies

        Edgar F. Claybaugh, 76, of Culver City, CA  formerly of Toulon died Sept. 21.  Funeral services and burial were at Forest Lawn at Glendale on Sept. 23.

        He was born Feb. 26, 1907, the son of Claude C. and Mary Westerfield Claybaugh.  He was educated in the Toulon schools and graduated from Toulon Township High School in 1926.*

        He is survived by his wife, the former Helen Golstein** of Peoria, three sisters, Eleanor and Margaret of Toulon, sister Marie Kevin of Burbank, Il. and one brother Robert of Toulon and two nieces and two nephews.

        He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.

        Josie Cody, 56, of 5974 S. Jonesville, died at 5:05 a.m. today at Bartholomew County Hospital after an illness of one year.

        She was married to James Cody in 1976, and he survives.

        Funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. David Harker at 10 a.m. Saturday at Norman Funeral Home at Hope.  Calling hours will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday.

        Mrs. Cody was born July 21, 1926, in Bartholomew County, the daughter of Floyd and Goldie Drake Pope.  She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Columbus Order of the Eastern Star and Eagles Lodge Auxiliary.

        Surviving with her husband are eight sons, Harold Thompson of Shady Lane, Gerald Thompson of 1036 Union, Tommy Thompson of Columbus, Lloyd Thompson Jr. of 1217 Lafyette [?sic--Lafayette], Ronnie Thompson of Franklin Street, David Thompson of Jackson Street, and Johnny Thompson and James Stephen Cody of 5974 S. Jonesville; four daughters, Shirley Abner of 5974 S.         John Clayton Cutright, Sr., 83, of Westmoreland Place, died 12:30 p.m. Friday in the Chillicothe Veterans Administration Medical Center after an extended illness.

        He was born Oct. 8, 1899, in West Virginia to Hugh A. and Cora Perry Cutright.

        He was married on Aug.12, 1920 to Ruth M. Botkin who survives.

        Survivors include seven daughters, Mrs. William (Beatrice) Dingman, Dunnellon, Fla., Mrs. Warren (Betty) Schrake, Reynoldsburg, Mrs. Gordon (Joanne) Mathers, City, Mrs. Larry (Frances) Drummond, Palmetto, Fla., Mrs. Gerald (Grace) Weaver, Ft. Myers, Fla., Mrs. Wayne (Carole) Haines, Bishop Hill Road, and Mrs. Larry (Mary) Workman, Lakeland, Fla.; three sons, James H. Cutright, Lunbeck Road, John C. Cutright, Jr., Route 23 South, and Robert P. Cutright, Sr., City; 26 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

        He was predeceased by a daughter, Mildred A. Houck, a grandson, Harold James Cutright, a granddaughter, Lori Houck, two sisters and a brother.

        He was a retired Mead employee and served in Company H 42nd Rainbow Division during World War I.  He was also a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church.  Funeral services will be held 10:30 Tuesday in the Ware Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Lusher officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home between 5 and 8 p.m. Monday.

        NORVAL  H., age 74, of 1950 Harmon Pl. NE, passed away Thursday evening in Timken Mercy Medical Center. 

        Born at Middlebourne, WV, he had been a resident of Canton for the past 39 years.  He was a retired employee of the Timken Co., retiring in 1974, after 30 years of service. 

        Preceded in death by his daughter, Mrs. Ruth Etta Marchbank, who passed away in 1974.    

        Survived by his wife, Violet L. Dallison of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Clarice Merrin of Canton, Mrs. Madeline Griffith and Mrs. Lee Cooper, both of Begholz, OH; one brother, William Dallison of Bergholz, OH. 

        Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Delaney Young officiating.  Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park.  Calling hours in the funeral home Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

        Services for Kathleen Ackerman Demeritt, 69, a native of Key West, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.

        Mrs. Demeritt, a real estate broker, died Monday at Doctors Hospital.

        Survivors include her husband, William B. Sr.; sons, Richard J. and William B. Jr.; daughters, Joanne Dixon, Patricia Fernandez and Kathleen Hennessey; 15 grandchildren; a brother and two sisters.

        Robert L. Dexheimer, 66, of 1847 Jerome St. died at 9:05 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Medical Center.

        He was born in Springfield, the son of Roy and Ethel Slatten Dexheimer, and married Anna Mae Steinkuehler in 1936. Mr. Dexheimer was employed by First National Bank before his retirement in 1980. He was a member of Third Presbyterian Church, St. Paul's Lodge 500 AF&AM, Valley of Springfield AASA, and Ansar Temple.

        Surviving are his wife, Anna Mae; one son, Ed of Springfield; four daughters, Carol Gorbett of California, Bobbi Lewis of Curran, Jean Park of Springfield and Sally Dexheimer of Springfield; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one niece and two nephews.

        Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Bisch Memorial Home, with the Rev. Mickey Blair officiating.

        Jennie B. Drake, 95, of Barnesville died December 11, 1983 in the West Lafayette Care Center.  She was born March 30, 1888 in Monroe County, a daughter of the late Thomas and Susanne Markle Morris.

        She was a member of the East Main Street Church of Christ, Barnesville; and was preceded in death by her husband, William Drake, in 1971.

        Surviving are six sons, George of Bethesda, Charles and Raymond, both of Barnesville, Thurman of Indianapolis, William of Fairmont, W.Va., and Carl of Bradenton, Fla.; eight daughters, Margaret Huntsman of Redlands, Calif., Lillian Huntsman of Columbus, Florence Little and Mary Hittle, both of Coshocton, Edna Parker of Leesburg, Fla., Myrtle Hudson of Barnesville, Betty Eikelberry of Streetsboro, and Kathrine Eikelberry of Ravenna; a brother, Alvia [sic—Alva] Morris of Salem; 50 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.

        Funeral services for Herman Godfrey, 80, Kiester, were held Saturday at Rice Lake United Methodist Church.  The Rev. Layen Adelmann officiated.  Interment was in Fairview Cemetery, rural Kiester.

        Mr. Godfrey died Thursday, August 28, 1983 at the Wells Hospital.

        He was born Aug. 18, 1903, in East Chain to William and Emily Godfrey.  He was a 1924 graduate of Granada High School and was self-employed as a general contractor in road construction.

        He married Zoe Kinkade on Dec. 4, 1932 in Kiester and resided in Kiester since 1935.

        He is survived by his wife, Zoe; three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Margo) Skinner of Arvada, Colo., Mrs. Dale (Kathleen) Thorpe of Harrisburg, S. D. and Mrs. Linda Hlavinka of Kiester; one son Roger of Sioux City, Ia.; 12 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Dora Eisenbarger of Granada; and one brother, Byron of Newport.

        He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

        He was born Feb.14, 1933, in Washington County to George Hall and Hazel Groves Hall Dillon.  He had been a driver for Merrill Brothers Trucking Company and was a veteran of the Korean War.

        In 1968 he married Marjorie Kuhn who survives with two sons, James and George; three daughters, Charlotte, Mary and Barbara, all at home; his step-father, Clayton Dillon of Lower Salem; one brother, Harry Hall of Caldwell; and three half brothers, Ernest Dillon of Warsaw, Billy Gene Dillon of Tampa, Fla.  One son, Argie Dale Hall Jr. and one daughter, Donna Jean Hall and one sister preceded him in death.

        Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the McClure-Schafer Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Kendall officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home.

        Thurston J. Harden, a Brown County native who had been living in Jackson, Miss., died March 27, 1983, in Childress, Texas, from injuries he suffered in a car accident.  He was 52 years old.

        Harden had lived in Mississippi for the last 30 years.

        He was the son of Sarah Spicer Harden of Nashville.

        Other survivors include three daughters, Mary Lois (Cookie) Fulton of Jackson, Sandra Ann Dungan in California and Karen Thornton of Crystal Springs, Texas; a son, Jefferey Lane Harden of Jackson; five sisters, Christena Reynolds of Jackson, Mary Alice Elliott, Miriam Altop and Louetta Reynolds of Bloomington and Almeda Harris of Nashville; five brothers, Charles William and Marshall Harden of Bloomington, Dale Harden of Ellettsville and Bruce and Richard Ancil Harden of Nashville.

        Services were March 29 at the Wright & Feguson Chapel in Jackson.

        Burial was in Lakewood Memorial Park there.

        Carl T. Harris, 75, 2201 Cherrywood Ave., died this morning in his home following an illness of one year.

        Survivors include his wife, Alice B. Harris; a daughter, Mrs. L.D. (Barbara) Cooper of Wapakoneta, Ohio; a son, Thomas S. Kise of Knightstown; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; eight great-stepgrandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Letha Henderson of Richmond; a brother, Harry Harris of St. Paul; a niece who was reared by Mr. Harris, Mrs. Bob (Jill) Wasson of Lewisville, several other nieces, nephews and cousins.

        He was born May 14,1908, in Shelbyville, the son of Clarence E. and Mary Sallee Harris.  He had resided in New Castle since 1924.  He was a member of First Baptist Church and currently was serving as a deacon in the church.  He was a member of New Castle Masonic Lodge No. 91 F & AM and Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis; Knights of Pythias; DOKK of the Knights of Pythias.  He retired from Chrysler Corp. in 1969, after 36 years of service.  He was a member of UAW Local 371.

        Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Macer-Hall-Pasco Funeral Home with Rev. Arnold Erickson and Rev. Russell Hall officiating.  Burial will be in South Mound Cemetery.  Friends may call after 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where the family will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.  Masonic Lodge No. 91 will conduct memorial services at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and the Knights of Pythias will have services at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

        SELAH -- Harvey H. Harrison, 65, of 210 E. First Ave., Selah, died Sunday in Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

        He was born Oct. 12, 1917, in Selah to Harry and Fay (Taylor) Harrison and was the grandson of  E.V. and Jenny Taylor, Selah pioneer residents.  He was raised and educated in Selah, graduating from Selah High School.  He married Veda L. Kinkade in Mabton on June 1, 1941.

        Mr. Harrison was employed by Darigold Creamery for 31 years until his retirement in1973.  He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 524 in Yakima and was an avid fisherman, camper and outdoorsman.

        Survivors include his wife, Veda Harrison, of Selah; one son, Dale Harrison of Lompoc, Calif.; two granddaughters, Darlene Harrison and Bobbie Jo Harrison, both of Othello; two brothers, Virgil Harrison and Roy Harrison, both of Selah; a sister, Mrs. Roy (Beulah) Klopp, of Kennewick; and several nieces and nephews.

        Howard H. Hartenstein, 87, Community Skilled Nursing Centre, formerly of Stevens Avenue, N.W. died at 2:25 a.m. today in Warren General Hospital.

        He was born Aug 25, 1896, in Wheeling, W.Va, the son of William V. and Mary Virginia Morgan Hartenstein.

        A resident here since 1958, coming from Wheeling, he was employed by National Can Co. for 12 years, retiring in 1970.  He formerly worked for Stifel Calico Works for 35 years.

        Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Betty L. Edwards of Richmond, Va., Mrs. Charles (Virginia) Mumley of Wheeling, Mrs. Martin W. (Jacklyn) Henry of Connellsville, Pa., Mrs. Lester A. (Ruth) Hodgkiss of Massillon, Mrs. Leonard E. (Judith) Redmond of Warren, with whom he made his home; two sons, William V. of Martins Ferry, Richard G. of Wheeling; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.  Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

        Friends may call at Robert H. Roberts Memorial Home from 7 to 9 p.m. today.

        Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Heslop Funeral Home, Martins Ferry, where friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

HATTIE TUEL HAUGHT Died Feb 2, 1983 Hattie Tuel Haught, 94, formerly of Sistersville and St. Marys, died at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg Wednesday. She was born April 11, 1888, in Tyler County, the daughter of Elmer and Ida Hoskinson Tuel. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, St. Marys .

She is survived by one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Glen (Helen ) Haught, Sistersville; two grandchildren, Jack Haught, Paden City, and Mrs. Jack (Joberta) White, Sistersville; four great-grandchildren, Jo Lynn Robey, Parkersburg, Tanya Ha tcher, Paden City, Jackie Lynn Haught and Michael Haught, Paden City; and one great-great-grnadchild, Justin Michael Hatcher, Paden City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover, in 1965, and a son, Glen, 1971; also by two brothers and two sisters.

Services will be at Cooper Funeral Home in Middlebourne with the Rev. Bobby Wood officiating with interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Sistersville.

        She was a native of Shelbyville and lived in Richmond 20 years.  She was a clerk at J.C. Penney and also was a licensed practical nurse in home nursing care.  She was the widow of Thomas Henderson.

        Survivors include one brother, Harry Harris of St. Paul, Ind.

        Hickline was born Jan. 26, 1902 at Rose Hill, son of William and Elizabeth Denney Hickline.  He married Lyda Luella Mattox at Cedar May 25, 1925.  He was a retired farmer.

        He is survived by two daughters:  Mrs. Ervin (Joyce) Gay, New Sharon and Mrs. Keith (Anita) Morgan, Rose Hill; a son, Donald Hickline of Hutchinson, Kan.; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ivan (Lois) Vannest, Rose Hill; and good friend, Edith DeVos, Route 2, New Sharon.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dwight and Forrest.

Man   shot,   killed   in   fight

        One man was shot to death and another critically wounded in separate fights Sunday.

        Ronald Lewis Hiell, 43, of 116 Mithoff St. was killed behind the home of Ronald Dean Spears, 20, of 1225 S. Oakwood Ave. at 4:18 a.m. Sunday, Columbus police said.

        Detectives said Hiell was shot during an argument with Spears about Hiell's ex-wife Debbie.  No charges had been filed this morning.*

        Schoedinger Hilltop Chapel, 3030 W. Broad St. is handling funeral arrangements.

        James Belcher, 30, of 293 Hawkes Ave. was in critical condition at Mt. Carmel West Hospital today with a shotgun wound in the abdomen.  He was injured during an argument Sunday with Jerry Arnett, 46, and Darrell Arnett, 34, of 980 W. Bellows Ave., and Chuck Johnson of 982 W. Bellows Ave.

        He was a Methodist by faith, a retired employee of the Westinghouse Plant and he served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of the VFW Post 7048.

        Boyd Albert Knight, 81, of Slippery Rock R.D. 3, Slippery Rock Township, died at 5:05 p.m. yesterday in United Community Hospital, Grove City, after an extended illness. Mr. Knight was a retired woodsman, and a member of Drake Alliance Church, Leesburg. Born in Poplar Ridge, Braxton County, W.Va., on Feb. 17, 1902, he was the son of Martin Luther and Jamima A. Carpentor [sic--Jemima A. Carpenter] Knight. His first wife, Myrtle "Goldie" Morris Knight, died in 1947.

        Surviving are his wife, Agnes M. Walters Knight; eight sons, Joe Knight of Clarksburg, W.Va., Leonard of Princeton, Gordon of Slipper Rock R.D. 3, Orville "Bud" of Dille, W.Va., William of Harrisville R.D. 3, James of Volant R.D. 1, Paul "Junior" of Colora, Md., and Gerald of Volant R.D. 2; six daughters, Mrs. Frank (Evelyn) Bennett of Slippery Rock, Mrs. Paul (Ruby) Thompson of Craigsville, W.Va., Mrs. Richard (Hazel) Detamore of Randallstown, Md., Mrs. Lonnie (Betty) Martin of Slippery Rock R.D. 3, Mrs. Gene (Dorothyleen) Kyer of Richwood, W.Va., and Mrs. Joseph (Bonnie) DiCaria [sic--DeCaria] of Ellwood City R.D. 2; and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Carl (Paulene) [sic--Pauline] Hall of Hanley, W.Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Dyer of Cowen, W.Va., and Mrs. Clara Cutlep [sic--Cutlip] of Heater, W.Va.; 56 grandchildren, and 58 great-great-grandchildren. A son, two sisters and four brothers, preceded him in death.

Cornelius George Kuhn was born on 06 Aug 1907 in Monroe Co., OH. He died on 22 Mar 1983 in Louisville, Stark, Ohio.

Cornelius G. Kuhn, age 75, of 622 Edwards St., Louisville, passed away Tuesday, Mary 22 [1983] at the Molly Stark Hospital following a short illness. Born in Monroe County, Ohio, August 6, 1907, he lived in the Louisville area for 55 years. He had worked for the Berger Division of Republic Steel Co., retiring in 1969, and for many years for the Superior Sheet Steel Co. of Louisville. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Louisville K of C. Council 2530, Louisville FOE Aerie 2374 and the Arion Singing Society.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille (Schott) of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Daniel (Judith) Mahoney of Toledo; one son, Ronald Kuhn of Louisville; one sister, Mrs. Edwin Crum of Caldwell; two brothers, Lester Kuhn of Louisville and Arthur Kuhn of Caldwell; four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, James, in 1976.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, March 25 at 10:30 AM in St. Louis Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Calling hours were Thursday at the Paquelet Funeral Home. FOE services were also held Thursday as were K of C services.

        He was an auto mechanic and a Protestant by faith.

        Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Leek; his parents, James J. and Marie M. Leek of New Cumberland; three sons, Friend Jr., Christopher James and James Andrew, all at home; a daughter, Amy, at home; four sisters,  Mrs. Ed (Margaret) Ammons of West Alexandria Pa., Mrs. Richard (Wilma) Burton and Linda Mercer, both of New Cumberland, and Mrs. Aubrey (Cathy) Flanigan of Salem, W.Va.; and one brother, James Otto Leek of New Cumberland.

        He was born Oct. 12, 1954, in Weirton.

        Rhea E. Leibfarth, 83, of Ashland and Clearwater, Fla., died Friday in her home in Clearwater.

        She was born in Woodsfield.

        She and her husband, Hubert A., were owners of Leibfarth's Jewelry Store in Ashland until they sold the store to Fred and Thelma Gerson in 1951.

        Mrs. Leibfarth was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ashland and Ashland Altrusa Club.  She was a 50-year member of Ashland Chapter, 92, Order of Eastern Star.

        She is survived by one sister, Grace Richert of Zephyrhills, Fla.

        Memorial services will be at a later date.

        Moss Funeral Home, Fort Harrison Chapel in Clearwater, was in charge of arrangements.

 

Lendon, Leonard Lendon, Jr.

     Leonard Lendon, 37, of 228 South Maple Street, Adrian, MI. died Feb. 17 (1983), in Huron View Lodge nursing facility, after an extensive illness.

     He was born Feb. 08, 1946 in Monroe County, to Leonard and Estelle (Morris) Lendon. On Feb. 06, 1965  he married Beverly Miller in Tecumseh and she survives.

     Mr. Lendon had lived in Onstead for the past three years, moving there from Memphis, TN.  He was a 15 year veteran of the U.S. navy, receiving a medical discharge.

     He was a member of the Tecumseh Masonic lodge no. 69, f. & a. m. and  a member of Tecumseh chapter no. 51 o. e. s.

     In addition to his wife, survivors include his mother, Estelle Lendon Schaub of Lewisville; two sons Jerry and Jay Lendon at home; seven sisters, Mrs. Alvaretta Luyster of Lorain, Mrs. Mary Miller of Weirton, WV; Mrs. Betty Matson of Newark, Mrs. Cora Blackstone and Mrs. Frances Brookover of Lewisville; Mrs. Elsie Bonam of Wooster and Mrs. Bonnie Eichhorn of Jerusalem; two brothers, Carl Lendon of Malaga and Larry Schaub of Lewisville. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister.

     The funeral was at 6 .p.m. at purse funeral home with the Rev. Blair Bashore officiating. The Onstead American Legion assisted with a military service. A Masonic memorial service was held at 3.p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.  Leonard was cremated.

        QUAKER   CITY -- Wayne M. Long, 68, of Batesville, died Saturday afternoon (Sept. 24, 1983) at Barnesville Hospital.

       He was born in Noble County on June 1,1915, son of the late Carol F. and Edna Brownfield Long.

        Mr. Long was a stock dealer and farmer.

        On July 3, 1937, he married the former Edna Christman.

        In addition to his wife of the home, he leaves a son, Omer of Sarahsville; a daughter, Mrs. James (Shelva Jean) Emery of Batesville, a sister, Mrs. Opal Carpenter of Summerfield; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

        Two sons and two brothers are deceased.

        Friends may call today 7 to 9 p.m. at Thorn-Eberle Funeral Home, Quaker City, where services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Mike Davis officiating.  Burial will be in Batesville Cemetery.

 

Loughmiller, Mary G. Loughmiller, nee Sardou

        Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Panwell-Gabel Funeral Home for Mrs. Mary G. Loughmiller, 67, 631 Crest Drive.  She died Thursday at a Topeka hospital after a long illness.  She had cancer.

        She was born Feb.25, 1916, at Topeka, the daughter of George and Gertrude Brandenburg Sardou.  She attended Topeka schools and was graduated from Topeka High School in 1934 in the first class to attend all three years in the new Topeka High School building.  She later was graduated from Kansas State College of Agriculture, Manhatten, in 1938 with a degree in home economics.

        Mrs. Loughmiller taught home economics for two years at Onaga High School, and after she married was a substitute teacher in Topeka schools.  She also worked in Topeka schools food service division as supervisor of the hot lunch program at Landon Junior High School.  While at Landon she started the first hot lunch carry-out program from the Landon facilities to other schools.

        She was a member of Omicron Nu, national home economics honor society, and was a Girl Scout troop leader many years.

        She married Rodney E. Loughmiller June 15, 1940, at Topeka.  He survives.

        Other survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Linda E. Curtis, Rochester, Minn., Mrs. Jean Ann Buchanan, Topeka, and Mrs. Gayle G. Keith, Springfield, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Blanche M. Hurley and Gloria L. Sardou, both of Topeka; a brother, George F.  Sardou, Topeka; and eight grandchildren.

        Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka.  Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 3003 Van Buren, Topeka, 66611; Hospice, Inc., 1615 S.W. 8th, Topeka, 66606, or the charity of the donor's choice.

        Minnie Belle Mace, 76, of 4 Mill Street, Washington, died at 5:50 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 1983, in her home.  She had been seriously ill for the past three months.

        She was born March 24, 1907, in Calhoun County, W. Va., a daughter of Charles and Sarah Lattea.

        Mrs. Mace was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and had been employed by the White House Hotel as a housekeeper.

        In March* of 1922, she married Romie Ferrell Mace, who died in August 1954.

        Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. William (Merline) Leasnick [sic—Lechnick] of Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. Ray (Eleanor) Adams of Atlanta, Ga., Irma* Headley of Inglewood, Calif., and Charlotte Garrison of Washington, five sons, Donald Mace of the state of Washington, Hayward Mace of Butler, Bernard Mace of Claysville, Ronald Mace of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Blaine Mace of Canonsburg, a brother, Homer Lattea of West Hyattsville, Md.; four sisters, May Starcher of Grantsville, W.Va., Columbia Lattea of Maryland, Cleo Lattea of Clarksburg, W.Va., and Jane Rhorer of Weston, W.Va.; 22 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

        She is survived by her husband Walter W. Marto of Sierra Madre, a former advertising agency owner in Pasadena for 35 years.  She is also survived by her daughter, Donna Brimer of Chandler, Ariz., a son Robert Marto of Sierra Madre, two sisters, Jean Clymore of Monrovia and Carolyn Munzon [sic--MUNYON] of Squim [sic--SEQUIM], Wa., four grandchildren, Michelle McComas, Scott Brimer, both of Chandler, Ariz., and Wendi Brimer, David Brimer, both of Tempe, Ariz.

        GIRARD -- Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in St. Rose Church for Frank "Pan" Masternick, 77, of 511 North Ave., who died of a heart ailment at 6:15 p.m. Saturday in South Side Hospital after a two-week illness.

        Mr. Masternick was born Jan. 22, 1906, in Youngstown, a son of Joseph and Theresa Fortunate Masternick, coming to Girard 10 years ago.  He had owned and operated Pan's Cigar Store in downtown Youngstown for many years and operated Masternick's Cigar Sales in Girard for the past 10 years.  He was a member of the church and Elks Lodge 55.

        His wife, the former Alma Runion, to whom he was married for 40 years, died in1969.

        He leaves a sister, Mrs. Eleanor Shelton of Youngstown, and six brothers, James of Youngstown, Nicholas of Columbus, N.C., and Larry, Joseph, Sam and Atty. John, all of Girard.

        A brother, Louis, and a sister, Mrs. Santa Macchione, are deceased.

Masterson, Jeffrey Masterson

        Jeffrey Masterson, 25, of 219 Keck Ave., died at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday on Iowa Street, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the coroner's report.

        He worked for Lindauer Pools, and had run in this year's Freedom Festival Run in June.

        He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

        Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Emily Masterson; his father, Morris Masterson; five brothers, Brian, David, Rodney, Timothy and Christopher; a sister, Mrs. Trena Melton; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Masterson and Alfred Goldbach, all of Evansville.

        Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Miller & Miller Colonial Chapel, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Matz, Frieda E. Brubach Matz

          Mrs. Frieda E. Brubach, 90, formerly of Main Street, Summerfield, died at noon Sunday, June 5, 1983 at Indianapolis, Indiana Methodist Hospital.  She had resided in Indianapolis the past four years with her daughter, Esther McCormick.  Born February 7, 1893, in Lewisville, Ohio, Mrs. Brubach was the daughter of Phillip and Elizabeth Ripper Matz and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Carlisle. Her husband, Oscar Brubach, died in 1947.

          Surviving in addition to her daughter are a son, Eugene Brubach of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; a brother, Clarence Matz of Wooster and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Clarence (Agatha) Brubach of Belle Valley. Friends were received at the Brubach Funeral Home in Summerfield. Funeral mass was held at St. Michael's Catholic Church in
          Carlisle with Father Walter Heinz officiating.  Burial was made in the church cemetery.

        Survivors include his wife, Betty McCoy of the home; three sons, Willis E. McCoy Jr. of Malvern, Richard A. McCoy of Jacksonville, FL, and David C. McCoy of East Sparta; three brothers, James McCoy of Guilford Lake, Donald McCoy of New York and Dorris "Dode" McCoy of Dover; four sisters, Mrs. Helen Pfeister of Dover, Mrs. Betty Rucker and Mrs. Beverly Gibbons, both of Clearwater, FL, and Mrs. Frances Notch of Florida; 11 grandchildren.

Calvin M. Mendenhall, 75 of 814 Walnut St, Caldwell, died at 5:50 am today Jan 25 1983 at Good Samaritan Medical Center, Zanesville.  He was born Nov 28, 1907 near Mount Ephraim, son of the late James and Mary Sayre Mendenhall.  He was a retired farmer and merchant, having operated the Western Auto Store in Caldwell for a number of years.  He was a member of Caldwell First Christian Church F&AM 136 in Sharon and Sharon Grange.

He was preceded in death by a son Merritt in 1955 and one grandson John Ramsey in 1951.

Alice Irene Myers, 97, a resident of Sardis, died Sunday at her home. She was born November 27, 1885 at Sardis, a daughter of the late Joel and Martha Thomas Jones.

She was a member of the Church of Christ, Sardis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Myers, in 1958, and her son, Ewart Myers, in 1959.

Surviving are two brothers, Homer Jones of Sardis, and Orville Jones of Bridgeport; two grandchildren; two great-granddaughters.

Moore, Roy E. Moore Sr.  (born 25 Jan 1929, died 1986)

MATAMORAS - Roy E. Moore Sr., 57, of New Matamoras Star Route died at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday in University Hospital in Columbus following an illness.  He was born Jan. 25, 1929, in Matamoras to Harry E. and Opal M. (Howell) Moore.  He was a member of Washington Hall Christian Union Church and was a retired maintenance mechanic at Consolidated Aluminum at Hannibal.  He was a member of the IOOF of Matamoras.

On Aug. 21, 1948, he married Juanita Meyers, who survives with two sons, Roy E. Jr. and Mike of Matamoras; one daughter, Mrs. Donalene Whitmer of Canal Winchester; nine grandchildren; his mother, Opal Moore of Matamoras; one brother, Cecil of Columbus; and three sisters, Della Hutchison of Toledo, Betty Dye of Eagle Lake, Fla., and Marilyn Rhoades of Baltimore, Md. 

He was preceded in death by two sons, Lloyd Earl and Richard Dean, and his father.  Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Hadley Funeral Home at Matamoras with Rev. Phil Zaayer officiating.  Burial will be in Matamoras Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

        He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Smith Morrell, in 1979.  Surviving are a son, Jon at home, three daughters, Mrs. George (Kathy) Kerngiver of McMechen, Robin Morrell of Moundsville, and Shelly Morrell at home; two brothers, Robert of Moundsville, and Josh of Florida; a sister, Betty Tyler of Moundsville; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

        There will be no visitation.  Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville.  Arrangements by the Grisell Funeral Home, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville.

        ASA EARL MORRIS, 79, of Cowen, died Monday, February 28, in the Sacred Heart Hospital, Richwood, following an extended illness.

         He was a 10-year resident of Cowen and an Army veteran of World Warr II. He was a retired Kanawha County deputy sheriff and was retired from the police department of St Petersburg, Fla. He was a member of the Lions Club and Arcola United Methodist Church and a 25-year member of United Commercial Travelers of America.

        Surviving: sons, Charles of Mogadore, Ohio, George of Akron, Ohio; brother, Hursel of Cowen; sisters, Clara Rose of Craigsville, Effie Miller of Summersville, Pearl Haney of Bristol, Nellie Tenney of Fairmont; four grandchildren.

        Funeral services were held at 2 pm Wednesday in the Adams Funeral Home, Cowen with the Rev Okey Wayne and the Rev Harry Green officiating. Interment followed in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Cowen.

 

Morris, Thomas Henry Morris

          Thomas Henry Morris, 70, of 3550 Cambridge Road, died at 10:55 p.m. Friday in Marietta Memorial Hospital.  He was born Sept. 6, 1913, in Marietta to Harry and Catherine Ancell Morris.  He had retired as a pipefitter, having worked through Local 168, Plumber and Pipefitters Union.  He also was well known as an artist.  He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a Navy veteran of World War II, member of American Legion Post No. 64 and Frontier CB Club, where he was known as "Painter."  He was married June 7, 1932, to Helen McKenna.

          He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. William (Raleen) Heiss of Marietta; one son, Terry of Newport Rt. 1; three brothers, Harry of Waco, Texas, Robert of Columbus and James J. of Marietta; two sisters, Mrs. Catherine Marshall of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and Mrs. Mary Fisher of Hamilton; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by one daughter, Regina Tornes, and one sister, Dorothy Smith.

          Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Moran and the Rev. Carl Peltz officiating.  Burial will be in Valley Cemetery.  Friends may call 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Marietta chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home where the Rev. Carl Peltz will conduct Christian Wake Services at 8 p.m. today.

        WHIPPLE -- Olive G. Mull, 93, of Whipple died at 10:10 a.m. Tuesday in Marietta Memorial Hospital.

        She was born Aug. 12, 1889, in Monroe County to Arius and Sarah Elizabeth Morris Carpenter.  She had spent most of her life in Salem Township.

        On Dec. 27, 1910, she was married to Mancil Wilson.  He preceded her in death. One son and one daughter survive this marriage, Harold L. Wilson of Maynardville, Tenn., and Edith Reeves of Whipple.

        On Oct. 1, 1919, she was married to John Mull.  He died Aug. 17, 1949, and one daughter survives this marriage, Doris Pitzer of Whipple.  Also surviving are four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

        Services will begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Universalist Church near Lower Salem with Jess Nutter officiating.  Burial will be in Salem Township Cemetery.  Friends may call at the McClure-Schafer Funeral Home.

        Dean W. Oliver, 94, of Whipple Rt. 1, died at 1 p.m. Sunday in Marietta Convalescent Center.

        He was born at Stanleyville on Feb. 26, 1889, to James H. and Katherine Wolfert Oliver.  He has spent all of his life in Liberty and Lawrence Township and was a veteran of World War I.  He was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.

        On Jan. 23, 1918, he married Lora Gutberlet.  Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Henry (Bernice) Schwartz of Marietta and Hilma Oliver, at home; and two granddaughters, the Rev. Nancy Schwartz of Pickerington and Shirley Schwartz Klocek of Monterey, Cal.

        He was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.

        Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the McClure-Schafer Funeral Home.  The Rev. Richard Wallace will officiate.  Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

        Petty Officer 2nd Class Gregory A. Pozenel, 25, died Friday in an automobile accident in Wilson, N.C.  He was stationed at New River Air Station in Jacksonville, N.C.

        The son of Jack and Betty (Ziegler) Pozenel, North Ridgeville, he was born Aug. 29, 1957 at Niagara Falls, N.Y. and was a former Marysville resident.  He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Marysville, and graduated from Marysville High School in 1975.

        Surviving besides his parents is a son, Anthony Pozenel; one brother, Jack E., Austin, Tex.; three sisters, Theresa Seitz, Mrs. Randy (Betsy) Spain and Jennifer, all of Marysville.

        Funeral services for Daisy Edna Prunty, 87, of Christian Anchorage Nursing Home were conducted at 2:30 p.m. today in the McClure Schafer Funeral Home with the Rev. W. P. Rollyson officiating.  Burial was in East Lawn Memorial Park.  Mrs. Prunty died Friday evening.

        She was born March 6, 1896, in Lawrence Township to John and Caroline Mosser Gutberlet.  She was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Women.  She had spent most of her life in the Moss Run area before moving to Marietta 10 years ago.

        On June 23, 1923 she married Lawrence J. Prunty who died Feb. 8, 1974.

          Survivors include two brothers and one sister.  Ray Gutberlet of Marietta, Guy Gutberlet of Marietta Rt. 5 and Mrs. Dean (Lora) Oliver of Whipple Rt. 1 and several nephews and nieces.  A brother, Loss Gutberlet, preceded her in death.

        Born in Marion, he had been a resident of Fairmount for 28 years.  He was an employee of Glass Container, Gas City, and was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 1778, Gas City.

        He is survived by his wife, Joyce; one son, Raymond Jr., Matthews; two daughters, Mrs. Adrian (Pamela) Lovings, Marion, and Mrs. Adrian Turner, Tucson, Ariz.; his father, Thomas, Marion; four brothers, Oliver, Leroy and Dan, all of Marion, and Richard, Hanfield, three sisters, Mrs. George (Marilyn) Knowles, Marietta, Ga., and Mrs. Earl (Viola) Hueston and Mrs. Cecil (Loretta) Bricker, both of Marion, and seven grandchildren.

        There will be no funeral services.

    She has reared 40 foster children.

        He was an owner of Dusty's Breakfast House for more than 20 years before selling it six months ago.  He was a veteran of World War II and a member of St. John's United Church of Christ.

        Surviving are three daughters, Miss Deborah Rhodes and Mrs. Sandra Newman, both of Evansville, and Mrs. Judy Murphy of Florida; three sons, Kevin A. of Evansville, James of Tell City and Richard of Florida; two sisters, Mrs. Marie Simpson of Lewisport, Ky., and Mrs. Mary Campbell of Maceo, Ky.; a brother, Harrison of Hawaii; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

        Charles Glendon Riley, 69, 1010 Crestmoor Dr., took his own life at home Thursday afternoon.

        A farmer, he had worked for GE for 17 years, retiring in 1978.  He was a former member of the Gowdy United Methodist Church, a member of the Vine Street United Methodist Church, Waldron Masonic Lodge No. 217 and Waldron O.E.S.  He had moved to Shelbyville seven years ago from Rush County where he had lived all his life.

        A son of Gus E. and Alice (Fox) Riley, he was born Feb. 11, 1913, in Rush County.  He was married April 7, 1932, to Katherine Tuley, who survives.

        Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jules (Patsy) Harcourt, Murray, Ky.; two sons, Gus N. Riley, Christiansburg, Va., and Charles S. Riley, Westfield; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.  A brother preceded him in death.

        Private graveside services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Blue Ridge Cemetery, with the Rev. Francis Applegate officiating.  There will be no visitation.

        Arrangements are being handled by the Carmony Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Kidney Association.

Man   killed   in   shooting

        A shooting incident south of Bloomington left one man dead early Friday evening.

        Floyd Rogers was pronounced dead on arrival at Bloomington Hospital from gunshot wounds after he was shot near Bomber's Inn on Ind. 446 near Gross Road shortly after 7 p.m., a Monroe County police spokesman said.

        Hospital officials and Dr. Mark Braun of the coroner's office were not releasing further details of the shooting this morning.

Shooting      ruled      suicide

        A shooting incident Saturday night near Bomber's Inn on Ind. 446 that left one man dead has been ruled a suicide, Dr. John Pless, Monroe County Coroner, said this morning.

        Floyd Rogers, 39, of 3940 N. Baugh Road, was ruled a victim of suicide in the 7:26 p.m. shooting.

        Rogers shot himself one time in the chest after leaving Bomber's Inn, Pless said.

        Etta C. Schultheiss, 85, of Fredericktown R.D.1, died at 8:17 p.m. Wednesday, February 2, 1983, in the Washington County Health Center.

        She was born __________________* in Newport, Ohio, a daughter of the late Jacob and Sarah McCoy Herlan.

        Mrs. Schultheiss was a member of West Pike Run Grange No. 1928, the Washington County Pomona Grange and the Pennsylvania State Grange.

        She was married January 19, 1929, to Noble E. Schultheiss, who survives.

        Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

        Her first husband, Cleveland Richey, died in 1924. A daughter, Thelma Richey, died April 30, 1980. Also deceased are six sisters and one brother.

        He served on the board of the Lawrenceville Public Services District, and was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church.

        His wife, Lulu Knight Shaw, died Jan. 16, 1976.

        He was born in Latty, June 30, 1910, the son of Henry and Flossie (Jenkins) Shinabery.  In 1932 he married Marjorie Konst, and she survives.  Also surviving are one son, Gary Shinabery of 1805  Ayersville Ave.; two granddaughters; a step-father, J.C. Ewing of Toledo; a twin brother, Ralph Shinabery, 424 Osceola St.; and a sister, Mrs. Dale (Arlene) Palmer of Toledo.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-brother, Richard Shinabery.  He retired in 1975 from Aro Corp., where he was a tool maker.  He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Defiance.

        Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Mast and Mock Funeral Home with the Rev. Gordon D. Scullion officiating.  Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens.  Calling will be at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday and the family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.

        Nellie L. Sims, 68, of Woodsfield, died Monday morning, Feb. 7, at Good Samaritan Medical Center.

        She was born Feb. 26, 1914, in Monroe County, a daughter of Calip and Anna Lee Mathews, and was a member of Woodsfield Church of Christ.

        Her first husband, John Griffon, died in 1951.

        Surviving are her second husband, Gerald Sims; three sons, Harold G. and Gail Griffon, both of Sardis, and Boyd Griffon of Englishtown, N.J.; one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Audrey) Craig of Sardis Route 1; four stepsons, William, Robert, Jerry and Phillip Sims, all of Woodsfield; one stepdaughter, Cathy Schumacher of Clarksburg, W.Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie McCormick of Dillonvale and Mrs. Verna Shook of Parkersburg, W.Va. five brothers, Curtis Mathews of Shadyside, Harold and Virgil Mathews, both of Dillonvale; Alva of Wooster and Charles of Lewisville; 23 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

        Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home in Woodsfield, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday.  Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.

 

Smith, Earl B. Smith

        Earl B. Smith, 52, of Caldwell died at 4 p.m. Friday in Marietta Memorial Hospital following a long illness.

        He was born Nov. 19, 1930* in Noble County to Herman and Erma VanFossen Smith. He had spent most of his life in Johnstown where he had been a grocer. After coming to this area, he was driver for Becker Flowers until his retirement due to ill health. He was a member of the Stafford Church of Christ. On July 15, 1950, he married Wilma Longfellow who preceded him in death in 1976.

        He is survived by his mother of Caldwell; two sons, Brad of Newark and Bruce of Columbus; one daughter, Connie Taylor of Westerville; two brothers, Franklin of Caldwell and Donald of New Matamoras; three sisters, Mrs. Robert (June) Leeper of Lewisville, Mrs. Geneva Crum of Woodsfield and Mrs. Lester Mallett of New Concord, and four grandchildren.

        He was preceded in death by one son, Brian.

        Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Stafford Church of Christ with Lloyd Westerbrook officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery at Johnstown. Friends may call at the McClure-Schafer Funeral Home until Monday morning and at the church for one hour before the service.

        An employee of Morgan Engineering Co. for 30 years, Mr. Smith was born Nov. 17, 1930, in Alliance, to Herbert and Mary Kocher Smith.

        He was a member of Christopher Columbus Lodge, Roma Club and Dante Alighieri Society.

        Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Williams); three daughters, Marianne Smith of Alliance, and Cynthia and Honda, both of the home; two sons, William H. Jr. and Herbert, both of Alliance; and three grandchildren.

        Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Myers-Israel Funeral Home, with the Rev. L. Edwin Mosher officiating.  Burial will be in Alliance City Cemetery.

       The body was cremated, with a Navy burial at sea.  Flanner-Buchanan Funeral Home in Indianapolis handled arrangements.

        Troy Rex Swiger, 66, of East Alley died this morning at 6 at home following an illness of seven years.

        A lifelong area resident and Army World War II veteran, Mr. Swiger was born here March 8, 1917, a son of Mrs. Leona Highland Swiger at home and the late Bayard Swiger.

        He retired as craneman of the former Crucible Steel Division of Colt Industries.

        Besides his mother, survivors include three daughters, Miss Sandy Swiger of East Liverpool, Mrs. Karla Amburst* of Doylestown and Mrs. Judy Norman of Kent; a sister, Mrs. Otto (Osee) Brand of East Liverpool, and six grandchildren.

        Services are to be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home by the Rev. Doris Prichard of the Calvary United Methodist Church.

        Burial is to be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

        Friends may call at the funeral home Friday afternoon and night.

          He was an employee of the Belmont County Engineers Department, was a member of the East Main Street Church of Christ, Barnesville, and was a director of St. Clairsville Jaycees.

          Surviving are his wife, Diane Marie Link Tetlow; his parents, Paul and Barbara  Huntsman Tetlow, Barnesville; a sister, Lori Tetlow, Barnesville; his maternal grandmother, Rose Huntsman, Barnesville.

          Friends were received at Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville, on Monday, where services were conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Monsignor George Covne* and Evangelist Jim Gallagher officiating.

          Interment was made in Ebenezer Cemetery, Bethesda.

        Surviving are his wife, Daisy Margaret Mercer Thomas; two sons, Peter R. of Colliers and Junior of Amsterdam; four daughters, Vera Midcap of Middlebourne, Marion Thomas and Mrs. George (Elizabeth) Campbell, both of New Martinsville, and Betty J. Eddy of Sistersville; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

        Mrs. Tiemeyer died at 10:25 a.m. Saturday at Bartholomew County Hospital.  She had been a resident of Four Seasons Retirement Home 14 years.

        She was born Aug. 8, 1896, in Bartholomew County, the daughter of Henry V. and Tillie Wolf Volland.*  She was the widow of Martin F. Tiemeyer who died in April 1968.  She was a member of Cornbrook Extension Homemakers Club and was the manager of Miller Yearling Ice Cream Store in her early life.  She was a seamstress and during World War II she was the head cook at Camp Atterbury.  She also was co-owner of Tiemeyer Mobile Home Court at Columbus.

        Survivors include one son, Marshall F. Tiemeyer of 1504 McClure; two daughters, Betty Unger of 3020 Revere, and Martina Coy of 6065 W. Lowell, and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

        Blanche Tubaugh, 82, of 223 Oaklawn, Woodsfield died Saturday, February 26, 1983 at the Barnesville Hospital.  She was the daughter of the late Henry R. and Lavinia Marty Tubaugh.  She was a graduate of Ohio University and a retired teacher, having taught 51 years in Monroe County and Bellaire City Schools.

        She was preceded in death by four sisters, Mrs. Ruth Kerr, Mrs. Gertrude Walters, and Misses Besse and Gussie Tubaugh, also three brothers, Harry, Wilbur and Russell.

        Surviving are two sisters Esther Tubaugh and Estelle Boston of Woodsfield, one niece Mrs. Patricia Leech of Toledo, Ohio, four nephews, John Kerr of Newport, Ohio; Charles Boston, Knoxville, Tenn.; Harry Tubaugh of Washington, N.C. and Norman Walters, Denver, Colo.

        Funeral services in charge of the Reverend Noah Oxley were held Tuesday at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home.  Burial in the West Union Cemetery.

 

Vawter, Jeannette R. Vawter, nee Fessler

        Services for Jeannette R. Vawter, 69, R.R. 6, Shelbyville, who died at 6 a.m. Tuesday at Winona Hospital, Indianapolis, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Carmony Funeral Home.

        Mrs. Vawter had been in failing health for several years.  Born in Blue Ridge June 10, 1913, she was a daughter of George and Faye (Marshall) Fessler.  She was married to Walter L. Vawter Sept. 18, 1932, and he survives.

        Other survivors include a son, Jerry L. Vawter, Fredericksburg, Va.; a sister, Delores Hunt, Southport; and two grandchildren.  Two sisters preceded in death.

        She had lived in Shelby County most of her life and was the industrial nurse at the former Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Shelbyville for over 20 years.  She retired in the early 1970s.

        She was a member of Naamah Chapter No. 73, Order of Eastern Star, and of the Blue Ridge Christian Union Church.  She was also active in harness racing in Shelby County.

        KAHOKA, Mo. -- A funeral for Cecil E. Walker, 78, of Kahoka, who died Saturday, May 7, in the Keokuk Convalescent Center will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First Christian Church of Kahoka with the Rev. William Harper officiating.

        Burial will be in the Kahoka Cemetery.

        Visitation is after 9 a.m. today.  The family will meet with friends 7-9 p.m. tonight.

        A memorial has been established to the American Lung Association.

        He was born Sept. 8, 1904 in Clark County, son of Charles M. and Sydney Eleanor Wadmore Walker.  He married Martha C.* Brewer July 4,* 1929 at Keokuk.*

        He retired from General Mills at Keokuk in 1969.  He was a member of the First Christian Church.

        Survivors include his wife Martha, sons Gale of Ramona, Cal., Dale of Keokuk, Robert E. of Kahoka; sisters, Mabel Walker of Williamstown, Mrs. Charles (Eleanor) Nichols of Kahoka; 10 grandchildren; 18*** great-grandchildren.

        He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

        Besides his wife, Mrs. Peggy Wright Williams, whom he married Aug. 15, 1953, survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John (Mary) Flowers of Rogers; four sons, Lewis Alford Williams of East Liverpool, Vernon Williams of Billings, Mont., Clint Randall Williams and Timothy Williams, both at home; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Coutter  of East Liverpool and Betty Jean Williams, both of East Liverpool; four brothers, Benjamin Williams of Canton, Samuel Williams and Paul Williams, both of Houston, Texas, and Ralph Williams of Virginia; five grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.

        Services are to be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester by Major and Mrs. Harry Sault of the Salvation Army.

        Burial is to be in Calcutta United Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

        Friends may call at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9.

 

Winkler, John H. Winkler

        John H. Winkler of 304 Remy Ave., Mansfield, Ohio died at 8:50 a.m., January 9, 1983, after a short illness.

        He was born near Sardis, Ohio on October 31, 1900, the son of the late Henry and Mary Siegenthaler Winkler.  He was a resident of Mansfield area for over 40 years.

        He was a member of St. Johns Methodist Church and a veteran of World War II.

        He is survived by a sister Mrs. Fred (Freda) Straub, of Sardis Rt. 2 and two half-sisters, Mrs. Marie Weiss of Sardis Rt. 2, and Mrs. Ella Schmidt, with whom he resided.  A half-sister preceded him in death, Mrs. Alma Luikart on March 23, 1974.

        Services were held Tues. at 1:30 p.m. at the Wappner Funeral Home with Minister Gary Shockley officiating.  Burial was in Lexington Cemetery.

 

Wise, Homer O. Wise

        BARTLETT--Homer Oliver Wise, 84, died at 2:15 a.m. today in his home here.

        He was born May 20, 1899, in Monroe County, to George and Isabelle Miller Wise.  He spent most of his life in the Barlow and Layman communities and had been a farmer.

        He is survived by his wife, Viola Jackson, whom he married July 29, 1922; two sons, Daymon Wise of Vincent Rt. 1 and Herman Wise of Cutler Rt. 1; one daughter, Mrs. James (Betty) Maddox of Barlow; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

        He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, five brothers and two sisters.

        Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in McClure-Schafer Funeral Home with burial in Valley Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday morning until the hour of the service.

MRS.   NELLIE    WISE

        Mrs. Nellie Wise, 89, formerly of North Jackson Street, Rushville, died Tuesday in Cornelia, GA.  She was a resident of Rushville for many years.

        Born in Washington, Ind., she was the daughter of Marion and Alice Lattie Kincaid Banta.  She was a member of First Baptist Church.  She was married Aug. 2, 1909 to George W. Wise who died March 22, 1966.

        Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Dwight (Evelyn) Reynolds, Sanford, Fla.; Mrs. Deloris Benfield, Cornelia, GA and Mrs. Virginia Johnson, Coquille, Ore; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

        Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Moster and Sons Mortuary with Rev. Gary Kirchoff presiding.  Entombment will be in East Hill Shrine Mausoleum.  Visitation will be after noon Friday.

 

Wright, Arthur T. Wright, Sr.

        LAKELAND -- Arthur T. Wright, Sr., 67, of 1116 Drigger Road, died Thursday (Dec. 1, 1983) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

        A native of East Liverpool, Ohio, he came to Lakeland 27 years ago.  He was a retired manager of a Publix Danish Bakery in Winter Haven, a Catholic and a member of the Lakeland Moose Lodge.

        He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Barber, Gainesville, and Rebecca Cline, Lakeland; son, Arthur T. "Tom" Wright Jr., Lakeland; sisters, Kathleen Bennett, Fontana, Calif., and Betty Sullivan, Anaheim, Calif.; brothers, Matt Wright, Wellsville, Ohio, Ira Wright, Houston, Texas, and Ray Wright, Garden Grove, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.

Zeck, Gustave Michael Zeck

        Gustave Michael Zeck, 72, of RD 3 (Rush Run), Rayland, died Sunday in Martins Ferry Hospital.  He was born July 7, 1910 at Salem.

        He was a retired meat cutter for the Canton Hotel and Restaurant Supply Co. and was a Lutheran.

        Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Ratti Zeck.

        Friends will be received at the Van Hove Funeral Home, Tiltonsville, 7 to 9 p.m. today, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with Dr. Robert Croker officiating.  Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery, Rayland.

 

Zwick, Francis J. Zwick

(Francis J. Zwick, born in Monroe County, Ohio in 1907; died in Louisville, Ohio in 1983)

Francis J. Zwick, age 75, of 906 Constitution Ave., Louisville passed away Wednesday, May 11 [1983] at Timken Mercy Medical Center following a sudden illness.

Born in Monroe County Dec. 29, 1907 to the late John and Bertha Burkhart Zwick, he had lived in the area since 1911. He was the owner and operator of the Zwick Builders Co., and worked as a contractor for 31 years. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

He is survived by his wife, Clara (Sharpnack) of the home; four sons, Francis E., Ernest J., and James L., all of Louisville and Richard Kreps of Hacienda, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Kramer of Canton and Mrs. Ida Mae Rothermel of North Canton; five brothers, John and Homer of Santa Monica, Calif., Ralph of Magnolia, Marion of Tucson, Ariz., and Harry of Louisville; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Donald, and three brothers, Roman, Edward, and Clarence.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday at 10 AM in St. Louis Church with burial in the church cemetery. Calling hours were Friday at the Paquelet Funeral Home.
