Skinner, Ernest Clive Skinner
Source: The Newport [Washington] Miner; August, 1973
NOTE: This obituary was within an article entitled: "Smash Victims' Rites Set
at Newport, Priest River"
News of that accident reportedly may
have contributed to the death later in the day of Ernest Clive Skinner, 13,
Route 4, Newport, a lifelong sufferer of epileptic seizures and stepbrother* of
Mrs. Collins' husband, Mike. According to Ernest's physician, word of the fatal
traffic accident upset the youth deeply, a condition which the doctor said may
have led to the fatal seizure which followed at the Skinner home. The boy was
pronounced dead on arrival at Newport Community Hospital.
The Skinner youth's services will be
at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Sherman Chapel here, with the Rev. Frank Dizmang
officiating. Burial will be in Newport Cemetery. Besides his stepbrother, he is
survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Skinner, and four sister, Lynda,
Jean, Ramona and Ella, at the home.

and Mike were half brothers, not stepbrothers.

Ernest Skinner, 13, Car Crash
Witness* Buried on Aug. 25
Funeral services for Ernest Clive
Skinner, 13, were held Saturday, August 25, at the Sherman chapel in Newport,
with the Rev. Frank Dizmang officiating. Interment was in the Newport cemetery.
Ernest, an epileptic, passed away
Tuesday, August 21, at the Newport Hospital after witnessing the head-on auto
crash near the bridge that day.* Born
March 30, 1960, at Newport, he was a lifelong resident of this area.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Lynn Skinner, Route 4, Newport, four sisters, Lynda, Jean, Ramona and
Ella, all at the home, several aunts and uncles.
*Submitter’s Note: His
sister Lynda Turner states, “This is incorrect. Ernie did not witness the
crash, but saw the cars afterward. Also, even though the address was listed as
Newport, Washington, the Skinners actually lived in Idaho. Newport, Washington,
was the nearest post office.”
