Cline, son of Christian and Martha Cline, was born in Monroe County, Ohio, January 3, 1892, and passed to his eternal rest April 6, 1950, being at the time of his death 58 years, 3 months, and 3 days.  He was united in marriage with Arrena Highman on January 11, 1913, and to this union were born six sons and four daughters, who survive.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and the following sons and daughters: Denzil and Hilton Cline of Ashland, Ohio; Mrs. Herbert Shafer, of Ashland, Ohio; Mrs. Ferrel Vanwy, of Newark, Ohio; Mrs. Brady Turner, of Woodsfield, Route one;  Robert Cline, of Woodsfield; Herbert, Edison, Kenneth, Miss Wilma Cline, and a little granddaughter, Janet, of the home; three brothers, Charles R.  He was a member of The Conner Ridge Methodist Church and was active in church work serving as Superintendent of the Sunday School for many years.  Mr. Cline spent his entire life in Wayne Township, engaged in teaching in the public schools of Monroe County and in operating his farm. Since his retirement after thirty-seven years of teaching in the public schools, he had taught G. I. farm school at Graysville, Ohio.  Lonnie was an industrious farmer and an earnest kindly teacher. Hundreds of boys and girls throughout Monroe County stand in sorrow today, feeling keenly the loss of a great teacher and a good friend. Quietly and sincerely he went about his work, implanting the great truths of life upon the minds of young folks that will live on and on. Their lives have been made richer by his having lived.

Lonnie was well known and highly respected in our community. Many are the words of encouragement and good advice he has given to his friends and neighbors. He will be sadly missed in our community and in the home. His wife, children and little grandchildren will miss his wise counsel and his gentle hand.  We, who are left, shall not question the infinite wisdom of Almighty God. We shall try, to so order our lives, that we may meet our husband and father in a brighter world than this, where sickness and heartaches are unknown.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at The Conner Ridge Methodist Church, with Rev. E. Merle Long, officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery at Woodsfield, with The Gardner Funeral Home of Stafford in charge.

 .

Nights are gloomy by the lamp light

          Something missing from the room

It is our dear son Russell

Gone and left us to remain.

 .

We seem to hear his footsteps

But it is only a dream

For he is sweetly sleeping

Far from earth's sorrow and care.

 .

Russell is gone but not forgotten

          Never will his memory fade

Sweetest thought shall ever linger

Around the grave where he is laid.

 .

Yes we know you had pain and sorrow

While on earth with us you stayed

But know all this is over

Since your trip o'er Gordon's made.

 .

Many friends speak words of comfort

Speak of good deeds you have done

And we often talk together

          Of the happiness we had.

 .

Beneath our eyes he faded slowly

Growing day and day more frail

Bearing sweetly all his suffering

          Without murmur or complaint.

LEIBFARTHS  FATALLY  INJURED  IN  ACCIDENT  SOUTH  OF  WEST BRANCH

Two Ashland men on their way to a hunting trip in northern Michigan met death immediately following an automobile accident one-fourth mile south of West Branch, Mich., at 12:48 p.m. yesterday.

        H. A. Leibfarth, 49, prominent jeweler and businessman in Ashland for 16 years, and his son, Hubert T., 23, were traveling north on Route 76, approximately 300 miles from home.  Their destination was the family lodge near Goulais River, just off Goulais Bay, 35 miles north of Saulte Ste. Marie.

The accident occurred after their car, which was being driven by young Leibfarth, moved off the highway on the right shoulder and skidded on the berm.  In an attempt to pull the car back onto the highway, the Ashland youth made a sharp left turn.  Re-entering the highway, he was unable to keep the vehicle in the right lane and struck a County Highway truck which was traveling south on Route 76.

The Leibfarth car caught fire after the collision and was totally demolished.  A passenger in another car, which had been following the two Ashland men along the highway, stopped at the scene of the accident and pulled the youth and his father from the burning vehicle.  H.A. Leibarth died sometime during the accident, and his son passed away moments after he was pulled from the flames.  Both suffered fatal head injuries.

The driver of the County Highway truck was William J. Goucher of Selkirk, near West Branch, who suffered chest, head and hip injuries and is being treated at a West Branch hospital.  A passenger in the truck, Floyd Pray of West Branch, remains in critical condition in the West Branch General hospital.

Michigan State Police from the West Branch post arrived at the scene of the accident shortly after it occurred.  West Branch is located in Gemaw county, Michigan.  The Leibfarths' Goulais-River lodge is approximately 550 miles from Ashland.

Mr. Leibfarth resided at 47 Samaritan avenue.  He was born October 9, 1901 in Lewisville, Ohio, the son of Christopher and Louise Matz Leibfarth and had been proprietor of the Leibfarth Jewelry store here for the past 16 years.

He was married June 25, 1924 to Reah Turner, who is his only survivor.  He was a member of the Methodist church, Ashland Lodge 151, F. and A.M. Scioto Consistery, Al Koran Shrine in Cleveland and the Ashland Shrine club.

Hubert T. Leibfarth was also a member of the First Methodist church, Ashland Lodge 151, F. and A.M. Scioto Consistery, Al Koran Shrine of Cleveland and the Ashland Shrine club and also of the American Legion.  He was born in Woodsfield, Ohio January 23, 1927, son of Hubert A. and Reah Turner Leibfarth, being 23 years of age.  He was associated with his father in the jewelry business.  His only survivors are his mother and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Turner of West Salem.  Hubert was a graduate of Ashland high school and of Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla.  He served for 19 months in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Denbow-Bear Funeral Home with Rev. C.S. Applegath, their pastor, in charge.  Burial will be made in Ashland cemetery, where Ashland Lodge 151 will conduct Masonic services.

.

My God, we ask only this of thee,

That Thou wilt keep us company

And guide our aged steps aright

Through the fast and fleeting night.

We go not like the quarry slave,

But with loving trust, approach our grave,

And lie us down to pleasant dreams

In heaven's mountains and its streams.

We've traveled long in faith sublime

        Through misty corridors of time,

And now at last we see the peace

That Thou and Heaven, so surely lease.

Submitter's Note:  Winnie had a sister Mamie Schell so it may be possible that this niece could have been her daughter, and that the spelling should have been SCHELL instead of SCHNELL.
